around he strikes out the side or off a lead off triple he's out he is outrageous would you actually watch Zack Wheeler pitch but we sometimes I think we take him for granted he's one of those guys that's an alltime Philly like he has blossomed here into a True Ace great starter I mean that position it's early the game right he gives up the lead off triple to La who's on third and he's got the me the order up and boom strike out boom strike out boom called third strike it was just a thing of beauty man because he's one of these guys with a runner on third and less than two outs he's going for the strikeout he's he does not want to give up that run he reminds me so much of Roy hallay speaking of Roy holiday the 2011 Phillies so this Phillies team 30 Games over 500 they're 88 and 58 the last time they were 30 Games over 500 my man JP reminded me this morning September 28th 2011 right so 2011 of all the years was their best team 2011 you had the aces right Halliday Lee Hamill oswal even BL right so you had that starting rotation was ridiculous the lineup had suffered that was post Worth right so you had uh you were missing worth and and and peace was on the Downs slide at that point but other than that I mean that team still had Victorino and Rollins and Utley and and peace was still you know hitting home runs and Cho if you remember had a really good year that year so that 2011 team was probably the best of all the Run they were better the 2010 team or the 2009 team that lost to the Yankees was a great team because you added Lee right you had Pedro you added some some pieces at at the end of that so they they were really good too they were all better than the 2008 team that wins the World Series so you're wondering well this is the conversation I want to have are this on paper just Talent is this group better than any of those teams including 2011 since both teams were 30 Games over 500 I think so I think certainly the lineup is Lighty years's better now the pitching obviously was deeper was was better but you still have wheeler and I don't care what you say about NOLA Noah I argue with to about this all the time my buddy like we talk about it he's he keeps you engag games man he just does clearly the pitching starting pitching was better but I I think overall the lineup was so much better than 2011 now so I I would give a slight Edge to today now look at the Eagles this is another odity again this is on paper it's one game and we you know there's a m there's long season and you win the Super Bowl you win the Super Bowl so in 20178 you win the Super Bowl now were they fortunate they had a easy schedule they were able to navigate it we know the story of the Super Bowl the first round buy squeaking past the Falcons right getting to play the Vikings and case Keenan until you played the patriots who and remember they were out without their best defensive player in the Super Bowl so there's a degree it wasn't say you're lucky but there's a degree of good fortune that helps you win and by the way we deserved it right right I mean we just clearly we deserved it but on paper this Eagles team how are they not better on again on paper I mean it's the be we've talked about it the best skilled people in the history of the franchise and it's not even close not even close so you look at them on paper and you go I think you got to go this team then you throw in the Sixers and of all the processed teams now they got a gel they have to do all that stuff but of all the process teams this is the best one and it's not even close right embiid Maxie Paul George and then you fill in the rest there there's nothing close to that even the Jimmy Butler even the Jimmy Butler piece because Maxi is the difference Maxi as a star and he showed you he's a star at the Garden in the playoffs so Maxi is a star in beid and Paul George is better than the Jimmy Butler team because you still had the ghost you still had Tobias on that team so it's just interesting and again it's all on paper it doesn't mean anything unless you're hoisting a trophy but three of those teams and we'll get to the Flyers tomorrow because big day rookie Camp begins I'm excited we're gonna talk to Keith Jones tomorrow uh but if you look at those three teams all three of them you could make an argument are better today than any other time in this in this Century right 09 was better 11 was better probably 10 too 11's a good team yeah man I'm looking back at it it's a good team the lineup's pretty good I thought this lineup was be easily better but I don't know well go ahead run through it pet was a disappointment and peace was not the piece all right well I me Cho a start Cho a catcher he's 283 that year six home runs great defensive you Le yeah Ryan Howard a first base he had 253 that year 33 dingers what do you mean yeah come on har yes Harper come on over that listen it wasn't the 58 home piece he could no stop Bryce all day second base Chase or stock Chase Chase Jimmy or Trey Jimmy Jimmy it's close though it's a good that's a good day what did Jimmy do that year he hit 268 11 or 16 home runs 22 doubles 63 RBI uh two triples so this was not stolen and would you know will go down and filled up your history but if you just looking at pure talent dude I mean honestly the Eagles won with slop yeah it's a slop roster yes it really is a bunch of midlevel players it all came together they were dominant on their o line and and their dline yes and the two and guidance of dou Peterson what was their yes you're right it was good who was your old line it was obviously kelse um Lane was there Brooks big right right V big V was there Jason because Jason Peters went down right Brooks you're right I don't know if Sam started see find this roster it's hard finding stats on o look at it right like this this this team is just Talent like I don't know if we even realize Vite wisuki Kelsey Brooks Lane wisuki started yeah okay 11 games you look at you look at this team yeah are you kidding me for sure like seriously were you look at at Squad Barkley or with AJ Brown and Devonte Smith I I still like I my jaw drops like again Jaylen was okay yeah he like if you look at and and I watch the tape like he was okay he wasn't horrible he wasn't great there were mistakes right there were certain things he was okay for and I think a lot of it had to do with rust and lack of preseason and he also has to get like the second piece of it is to become that like really good you got to get that second piece of it second third progressions yeah like his 37th coordinator in four years I mean exactly the only position so but I look at this team I go look how ridiculous like he he didn't even play great and they scored 34 with ease to Madden fantasy team it is it's a great like it's a great offense the running back Rin 2017 blunt Clement aay Wendell small J aay and sprouls yeah well the only was good till he got hurt the only position really position but it's probably going to be Caleb Martin uh he's got a good def he's a good defensive player dude I I I love what Mory did I have to tell you I love what he did in the I think he did a I give him he got Wing play cuz no I I think it's a I think it's a good squad I think it's their best chance of all and I hate to get my HS up again but this if I'm going to be honest with you I'm all your squad was interesting because it was Monday night we just saw him and dude I when Rogers has that one drive I'm going wow man this they could be nasty that ners front controlled everything they're they're really good I I we're from an standpoint that Niners defensive front I thought took the game away yeah I mean you know I hate to say it but just the physicality and the trenches I mean the 49ers took it to the Jets on both sides of the ball yeah uh not not really what I expected um you know from the Jets defense in this game just because you know they they have a history of you know being a top three defense but um you know definitely showed the you know showed what the 49ers are you know I think for the Jets who want to be there who you know everybody thinks that they're trending in that direction I do believe they are I thought their offense was pretty decent I thought Rogers played well for the first game it's hard two years off 20 months to come back I thought he threw the ball well he was protected well they just couldn't get you know things going there with the turnover early and the and the the third down drop the first drive but 49ers are the echelon of the league I mean Kyle Shanahan is a mastermind I mean the best play caller I've seen in football now you know since I played since Mike Mars may be in the greatest show on Turf so you know he's just uh you know he out schemed them and and listen it's a humbling game man they'll definitely bounce back but the 49ers are you know they they didn't even play their best game in my opinion offensively and they didn't have their best player either so you know it's a it's a it's it's a great start for them but the Jets obviously man like you know I I expect to see a different team as they move forward they got Tennessee this week we'll see how that goes so I know you keep one eye out on the birds and you know when you look at them Friday night get it was a weird atmosphere right it it's in Brazil uh the field was slippery but you could see what Barkley means to that offense I have AJ Brown Devonte Smith saquan Barkley and Gard I mean the the skill people are ridiculous yeah 100% % I mean look saquon Barkley in a real system and a real offense with other weapons around them that's a problem right so uh you know the Giants can't be happy watching that obviously Mara that was a topic of discussion in hard knocks and you know watching that go down in the first game was was was fun for me to I love saquan bar I think he's a great player great leader and uh you know listen you're right the field you need get your best out some of your pass rushers I know there's been a lot been said about Huff not really doing much in the game that's a factor I mean he's you know coming off the ball as a pass rusher in a slick situation uh he's a good player you know the Jets miss him for sure and uh you know he's going to do big things for you guys this year but you know outside of the turnovers in the game I mean there's just a lot of weapons on the field right now for the Eagles and and I just think that that's a problem now Dallas also played well and you know they did what they had to do uh ver versus very good Browns defense so uh listen it's going to be those two teams throughout the season and like it normally always is and I expect it to be all the way to the Finish yeah I I it's funny you look at Dallas you Detroit look good you know again that Ram team is is a good team and they beat them so the NFC I it's interesting because the NFC I I think is is deeper is better than the AFC when you're looking at at teams and the AFC is interesting because you got Kansas City up here and then you got I don't know what Buffalo's going to be right like Allen's great but they they lack he lacks weapons right Miami I don't know about Tua and you got your squad and then you know we saw in Cleveland Watson looks like he's cooked right like they had they have a great defense but their offense was just awful right like Cincinnati loses it was a weird kind of first week for the AFC yeah you're right I mean listen you know it is like you said Kansas City is at the top then you start sprinkling in some of those uh four a NFC teams and then you're right then there's kind of a little bit of a drop off with the rest of the AFC yeah I mean listen you know it's it's yeah for sure and they're a really good team well coached I love with DeMarco myons has done uh so so far but um you know look I think there's always some surprise teams you know how this League works man every single week uh a team continues to you know show consistency and and rise to the top but it seems like you know everybody's chasing the Chiefs right now um you know you just look at what their game you know the way they use worthy in that game the speed that he brings to the table spreads things out and you know Andy is just a mastermind as well as far as adapting to just his players and the way he gets them the football and then Mahomes I mean you know he just uh creates continues to dominate and and do the things that he does so I love it I thought week one was interesting I didn't think we saw the best out of a lot of teams I thought there was some uh maybe I don't want people to think you know oh man like this is what we got I just think things changed over the first couple weeks of the season so you know after like the fourth game I think we could we'll start seeing teams that we say okay like this team's legit so uh but you know Chiefs showed up obviously week one it was a great game Baltimore had their chance man we're talking about about inches right in that game but um you know there there's some good teams in the AFC that I think are gradually catching up to what the NFC has so what have you learned from being a coach like how it's so interesting now that you're a head coach and who who are you who who's if you pick a head coach in the NFL who are you modeled after yeah I'd say I'm a combination of uh um Dan Campbell and John Harbaugh right so uh these are two guys that you know understand culture you know understand leadership roles they are not play callers they they they delegate the players and make sure the ship runs they trust their staff on the offensive and defensive side uh to to do their job and they and they Empower those coaches uh and and it's show now that that that is oh no he's been frozen wait we got ah yeah there we go sorry yeah that's right yeah you know I'm you know I just think about for me my biggest asset outside of the CEO style leadership style uh the attention to details on a day-to-day basis it's just in-game situations I I really take that to heart every single game I see a lot of coaches lose games for their football teams every single week at every different level and for me it's just continuing to you know study uh those those moments that happen in the NFL and and college and and really learn from you know what we do and there's a lot of decisions to be made in our league you know we you don't just kick an extra point after you score a touchdown you can go for one two three uh you know so there's a lot of different scenarios that come up and I'd say from a fourth down standpoint I'm a little bit more aggressive in the sense that you know I have a plan like from the 50 from the minus 45 plus 45 like where I kind of lean on that and it's not analytics it's just a feel it's a gut it's about you know how my team's playing the offense the defense and you know how you want to kind of set the standard of the game so those are just fun things and I can just continue to learn man just soak it in from some of the some other coaches and what they do but making it my own what what what do you think of syriani he speaking of CEO coaches that's the role for him right he's a CEO coach which you I'm curious what you think of him yeah I mean listen you know he's consistently won you know it's unfortunate obviously when you're a winner you know your your top tier coaches your OC and DC they get plucked away and they get hiring right so now it's about what is the depth the depths of your network what is the depths of the people around you that you can pull in so that you can continue to have that success so uh I think he's got I think he's amped up obviously his staff this year I do like the hires of uh of uh Kellen and and fangio and I listen you you bring you bring two coaches that have been there done that that that can honestly run a side of of your team and you don't have to worry about it so as long as you're on top of everything else I always say this like your number one job as a coach when you know the the teams between the lines is making sure you're 100% on the situations of the football game and making sure that you don't cause or you're the reason why the team you know fails on Saturdays or Sundays whenever you play and and it's a vitally important role man and you know there's guys you have on your staff that uh assist you in those roles and can help you but at the end of the day you got to make those decisions and live and die with them so you know they're not easy you know from afar as a broadcaster so many years you're it's easy to kind of second guess it after it happens or it doesn't work but as a coach in the moment you really have to be on those things and I just feel like I'm constantly thinking about all those situations at any moment in the game throughout you know each that's going on like when they score how we score how many points what if they score how many points we gonna just so I'm prepared and always making sure my coordinators have answers so that my OC knows like we're going forward on fourth down and what the scenario is before the third down plays even called so those things just ease the comfort and make it smoother in the operation process of your football team hey anthy VG here um what's the transition like going from player to coach when you watch the game people talk about like the speed when they transition from cols to Pro when you went to coach did you find the game was faster than as a player you thought or slower and how did you change the way you view a game well I'll tell you it's very hard to see what you want to see on the sidelines right you know it's it's you know you try to put your eyes on certain areas but you know again that's why you have your staff to to look at certain things I mean I I remember certain times in a game we talk about managing football games like you know maybe it was a twom minute uh the other team had the football we had to get it back you know in our league we use a we get to do a CH it's kind of like called a golden flag challenge you can literally challenge anything like if you see a penalty and it's not called you can and say hey there was a hold or a uh you know hands to the face on a certain play and challenge it well imagine if you're like you're down the other team is in a four-minute modee or at the end of the game and you're trying to locate uh a potential foul that may happen well I may get two of my staff and say Hey you know coach look you look at the left side of the offensive line I'm going to look at the right side of the offensive line I'm going to have somebody look at maybe a matchup and and see like do we see anything there that we could maybe throw a flag on so you know I don't know if the game's fast it's just your visual is tough I play callers that call plays on the sideline is always interesting to me because you know it's just it's hard to see now you got again you got guys in the box but if you always kind of feel like you your eyes are the best so if I was a play caller I'd always want to be upstairs but as a head coach when you're thinking about you know coordinating uh challenges and things of those Natures you know it's hard to see it you don't have the angles you're trusting other people and uh you know we only get one of those flags to throw so you know you got to be on it and use it at the right time so I don't think the game is is really as fast because you know as a player that speed is there from when you play when I play for so long but as far as just the momentum in the game and how it goes and having a feel of when you got to make those decisions it it isn't it's a craft man it's an art form and I give credit to guys like Andy Reid and you know maybe John Gruden as play callers who did it at an elite level but can also manage the football game it's not easy hey bro L thing I'm just curious how has you you think nil the portal right and you talk about college football H H what's what's it like for Rocco now are you managing him helping him through this process because now of a sudden like it's hey you get paid there's a whole deal there's portal stuff teams recruiting you I mean how do you how do you navigate this this is a fascinating time that we're in with college football 100% I do I do manage everything for my son I help him assist him you know he's just fortunate to have you know some people around him that you know can help him and that so he doesn't have to navigate that on his own and he can just think about football you know obviously it's a little different when you're a quarterback for a power force uh school you know those guys seem to kind of are the headlines for the nil and things of that nature so uh you know Iowa state does a great job uh of really kind of being very proactive in that and uh you know look you hear the numbers you see the schools you have this lawsuit that's pending that is really going to change the game honestly where now it's going to be Level Playing Field for uh pretty much every school where they're going to have basically enough money to kind of divy out and do the things that they want and it's a changing environment you know you see you see hle a guy that left BC to go to Green Bay like you see coaches maybe one to run away from college I'd be honest with you as someone that's into this thing and building this resume I want a college job I want to be a college head coach I like that side of it I do think players should get paid but how do you construct that how do you make it so you can still have a great culture you can still build a program you can still offer players money what is the deciding factor what's the difference now I'm not talking about Alabama Georgia because Ohio State because they're always going to have the best guys and they're always going to have the most money but let's just say if I'm coaching at Vander what is my sell to keep a guy at Vanderbilt what am I going to offer a quarterback a player that's different than you know other teams other schools and I always believe that you know the number one thing for these players outside of making money nil is they want to go to the league right well I can offer you know that the pro style system uh you know the what they're going to need to take those steps so you know for instance a quarterback and the system we run with the battle Hawks you know our offense is a is a West Coast hybrid that quite frankly you know translates to about 15 of the top offenses in the NFL well wouldn't that be great if a kid a quarterback who can who I can still maybe pay a certain amount of money but maybe not as much as Georgia and Alabama but he can get that so now when he sits in front of someone at the next level he's going to be able to Bam like this kid is on it he understands it what is the price that for that what is the value for that I think it's huge so and just kind of the culture the person I am um I I just think I sold division with the UFL I was not on the radar to become a head coach I got in front of the right people I was prepared and I sold them a vision and it made sense to them and now I'm just I'm doing my part you got to win you got to continue to do what you're doing and show that it works or you know it's something that can help the league and I love the other side of it you know the endorsement of League I'm I'm big on social media a lot of coaches are trending towards that now they're getting more on social media messaging to the fan base you know connecting with people you know it's all about people man my play honest with you I think you'd be great at it you're driving to Florida State uh I think they need to oh man I'll tell yeah that's rough uh you know not a great start for them but it changes you know I mean and then you look at look at them for instance they went to the portal and brought in all these players but is the culture there are you still are is Norvell still building what he wants to build it's like you said that environment has changed so when you we're losing to be the what's been tough for these guys hey brother listen it's so great catching up with you man have a safe drive we love you I I know you're gonna be a great college coach you're built for it I agree uh but we'll be talking to during the season you're the best pal thanks appreciate having me on there he is the great how do you rally the city of Philadelphia around Delaware like dude it's it's play games in Delaware County we be let's go hands all right well well what what other school can we use we can't use Ruckers guys because we can't use any of the big five yeah we can't use Ruckers do we we can't if we can't use Temple can't just build up St Joe's no have a program before I bring all my money in for the N we're star from scr they don't a program at Delaware how do we feel about villain NOA then this guy I'm all in on Delaware Villanova is the option yeah 56 minutes you can't trust him because a that's close I mean what nuts like you're like seriously there's gotta be something there like if we get to we got to use this nil money to build a college program all right well K did bring up an of players hot better players is South Jersey there are look if you look at all the players from South Jersey and you know again the prep but a lot of those kids from the prep are coming from Jersey like those youth programs in Jersey is are legit trust me I'm in the middle of it now like there's some great talent if you kept all the talent here and build up a program Rowan Rowan Rowan's not bad coach Ed hle I'm sure he's down with nil money Rowan's not bad either you got there's the chickies and pets right next to rows see that's the recruiting point com actually not bad Rowan Westchester we don't need Delaware we don't need Delaware we ain't got to go to Del why is there a lot of Delaware ha I it's a m State man yeah but it's really a suburb State it's like a jersey like it's the suburb that's why makes it sub's there's nothing funing the money are here's why I'm thinking Delaware because of the money like the the logistics no the credit card the banking the banking in Delaware gives want to do where did you go to college I went to Minnesota did you really I didn't know you went to Minnesota yeah yeah went to Minnesota what uh well growing up in Wisconsin back in the day they used to have they called it tuition reciprocity between Wisconsin and Minnesota so you could get instate tuition to go to go to Minnesota so I paid instate tuition to get out of state and my mom's from Minnesota so it was kind of like home away from home oh that's and uh and I also didn't get into Wisconsin so I thought you went to Wisconsin I honestly no yeah go that that school's ridiculous so did you go with Madison growing up see football games no no so so when I was a kid Wisconsin football was terrible that was before Barry Alvarez got there so honestly it was not on my radar at as a kid at all for me it was all Brewers and a little bit of Packers the Packers were pretty bad when I was a when I was a little kid but it so it was all Brewers Packers no Badgers so I didn't have this huge pull to go to Wisconsin either although again I didn't get into Wisconsin got into Minnesota though got into Minnesota though that was their loss so I want to use the N like nowadays you can create a program and there's no college football you grew up in the college football hot B the Midwest loves college football and we don't have a real college Penn State so far away so I want to put one I want to build a program with all the wealthy like I'll get Middleton involved right all the nil people uh and there's a lot of talent and it's amazing baseball and football the south eastern PA and Jersey South Jersey there's great talent here I want to keep the talent home all right and I want to build I want to take over either Westchester Delaware or Rowan and make it my program well it's funny because I was just thinking about this the other day with Minnesota because I was talking with a couple people in the Phillies Clubhouse about how Minnesota I'm like you know PJ Fleck rad the boat yeah that gets into the sunbowl every other year you know what I mean like they're always like maybe if they play great they'll go eight and five and I go aren't there some rich Minnesota alumni that can throw some money to make us a little bit better so yeah I I I wonder how that works hey get everybody in South get every just just go up and down the mainline start you know bring your coffee can exactly that's exactly my theory so the other thing we kicked around today was we were looking at these teams so the last time the Phillies were 30 Games over 500 was September 28th 2011 MH which team was better obviously they had the aces this team has the offense this team has the bullpen that is a great question because that if now if you go like if you look at some of the modern metrics and I know this because uh Jim Solsbury and I wrote a book on that 2011 team uh that that rotation still ranks based off of like fangraph's war and I know like some people are say immediately dismissed that but just as a general measuring guide yeah yeah that Lit literally is the single best single season rotation performance in baseball history that 2011 rotation highest war of any rotation ever in a single season so uh that said man I I think this team might be better because it's it's got a great rotation not doc Lee haml Oswalt but very very good and I think this offense is a better that that offense was kind of on the down downward Trend Howard was was down because happened after the injury in 2010 was down fence was in place of worth which I felt was a big was a a big loss huge loss and so I think you still have heart I know these guys are banged up a little bit but Harper is in his prime Turner's in his prime schwarber is in his prime you know you have a lot of other good young hitters on that team so and this right now the way this Bullpen is throwing I think I would say that this team could beat up on that team it' be tough though because you'd have to get through Doc and Lee and Hamil and Oswalt but but I think pound-for-pound I I might take this team over that team and I that was my theory as well I felt the same thing and one of the other things that like and he was on display last night it's somehow Zack Wheeler is underrated somehow Zack Wheeler Zack Wheeler is every bit a a holiday type of player type of pitcher you look at last night he gives up the lead off triple to L right and what does he do this why I love him he go I'm going to go go for the strikeout strikes out the side after that to strand the runner and save the run like his his stuff it reminds me of how they in the sense that he throws a heavy ball it's so hard to get lift off a Wheeler now I know IR to hit the home run last night but he he's tough to really Barrel up like that and also like he's good even when he doesn't have his best command and his best stuff and he got a lot of swings and misses last night but you could tell he was not happy with the way he pitched but for a guy that I mean he walked the first two batters I think was in the third in scored second inning so he walked the first two batters in the second inning G gives up a run or or um you know and he still kind of keeps them in the game so he doesn't pitch his best two runs six Innings nine strikeouts gives the team a chance to win the game and that's when he's not at his best and so yeah I I think he is underrated when you think about the what he does day in and day out uh he hasn't I don't I think if you ask Zack about his season and said what do you think about year I think he would say I think it was okay I think it was pretty good but he came into this season remember in spring training he said my my goal this year is to win the sa young I think he's probably going to fall short of Chris Sale but but um and so for in that sense I think he's probably going to go yeah could have been could have been better but it's still really good it's great it's great people would kill to have Zack wheer in the rotation and he's probably like h i was all right this year and and I look back you know and obviously you know in the Phillies it's an easy list right it's Carlton into Schilling into you know the camels Lee and then doc and then you you look at what he does it's almost gets overlooked it's like it's bizarre to me yeah how wheeler like to Wheeler is wi day every bit of wind day for sure and then think about like uh the postseason numbers like his his postseason ER I I'll have to go back and check but I know last year it was like 10th you know top 10 eras in postseason history and any starter over eight starts career starts or something like that so not only is he great in the regular season I mean postseason the dude is is money like he just he puts up you know he's just tremendous so um you know he's he's you know he's gonna get to start getting the big money you know next year the 42 mil a year but but he's worth it you know think about free agent signings and baseball history one of the best you know when they got him a few years ago that was an under the radar signing the Philly a lot of people kind of like we're going oh man they threw a lot of money 100 million at Zack Wheeler what has he done with the Mets you know he's had some good first halfs remember Brody vanwagon in the Mets GM at the time said I'm glad that we could parlay a couple good good F uh second halfs or whatever it was into a big contract with the Phillies and man he made him look bad for for that comment yeah I I I'm so with you uh what's the plan for Ranger Todd boy Ranger to me is a I'm not going to say a big concern but but boy you really want to see him dial it up here in these final three starts he hasn't looked good uh you know we had uh on on our uh Philly Show podcast yesterday Ruben was saying that he doesn't really see the same arm speed and doesn't know like physically if he's all there yet you know Rob Thompson has me thrown out the word dead arm like maybe he's going through some dead arm which kind of doesn't really make a lot of sense because he missed a month um you know he said well this is kind of like a rehab assignment he's this is kind of his four start coming off a rehab assignment and and my argument there is like sometimes guys take two rehab starts and rejoin the team so I don't know if the rehab assignment this is kind of like his rehab uh coming back to the team to me that really doesn't make a lot of sense because this is his fourth start so he should be back and he should he should be sharper and more effective so I don't know what's going on there but he's got three more starts to get it going but as if the playoffs would start today and like don't you say he's your number four starter right now right I mean you I don't know how you start him over Christopher Sanchez in the best of Five series in the game three yeah you know because that he's just so you hope you hope that whatever he's going through he gets it figured out going in the postseason because that to me when you talk about the Phillies postseason chances and you say who how do they match up against other teams in the National League or or in the World Series potentially to me the Phillies big strength is the fact that they are four deep in the rotation with four All-Star caliber starters and you know think about the last couple years right like they started Noah syart in a postseason game they started bayy falter you know um you know in in in in the NLCS because of their lack of depth now they have four legit guys so you want to really take advantage of that you need a good Ranger Suarez and he he just hasn't been been there yet do you uh yeah I'm I'm completely with it because like if you look at the Dodgers right you saw what yamama mod in fact VG you were talking about you saw D Roa break down Yamamoto and and he's just he looked great like he's he looks really good they're scary because you know their rotation was really banged up right we know about glass now but if they're all healthy they could be a frightening that could be a frightening matchup yeah and that's why you need you need great starting pitching to kind of combat that to give your to give your offense an opport opportunity to uh you know if yamama you're facing Yamamoto in the NLCS and it's it's Suarez is the matchup for whatever reason you want him to be able to keep you in the game so maybe Harper can pop one or schwarber can pop one or somebody can pop one to win a game so yeah it's really important that that he gets them going his his V is is down the last two starts I know it crept up a mile per hour uh in his last start in his start this week and that he doesn't need a great fast ball he he's talked about that in pass he's like I've had bad fast balls it's not my game but still I mean you want to see the arm speed there you want to see him sharper and crisper with his off speed stuff and and you haven't seen it yet hey Todd I read a piece this morning about Austin Hayes and his kidney infection I mean he did not look impressive when he came here and he admitted he was struggling with that I guess and he finally found out he has something going on with kidneys do you expect when he comes back we see a different Austin Hayes I I certainly hope so because you're right I think they they were looking for a little bit more they thought he could be the everyday left fielder and you know I I've I mean I've asked Rob Thompson this even before the before the kidney infection diagnosis you know how do you see this working right now because I know you said Austin Hayes is an everyday left fielder but he hadn't really produced as an everyday left fielder do you see some you know kind of mixing and matching some of these guys in left field mixing and matching some of these guys in center field um you know it's it's just something I think that they that they need to kind of figure out and I'm sure if if Austin Hayes comes back in the next couple weeks um you know the next week or whatever next several days you know maybe they can they can get that figured out but but certainly they need to get him straight and they need to see what he can do because in the postseason they need to have a set plan you know it's not it's not time to kind of feel out Austin Hayes and see what he can produce they need they need to make sure that that you know they're getting the production that they need in left field because you know it's the postseason man you can't you can't be messing around with you know being loyal or or whatever being loyal to the guy that you traded for at the trade deadline what what's the word on bone he seemed like it was just a mild hand thing he's been out a bit a bit of time yeah it's weird so like uh the other day Rob Tom says well he's going to go hit in the cage with a regular bat he's been Swinging with his short bat and uh and then apparently trying to swing the the hard bat uh the regular bat the the the um he still felt some pain in his hands so to me that's a little concerning now I talked to Bone a few of us talked to Bone the other day he does not seem to be concerned and that he will be he'll be he seems to think that he will be back in enough time to be ready to go for the postseason that he'll have enough whether that's a week or 10 days or whatever there's only what 17 16 games to go that he thinks he'll have enough at bats that he'll be able to hit the ground running once the postseason starts so we'll see but yeah you're right it's really dragged down a lot longer than I think a lot of people thought it would what's JT's deal I I know it's uh it's he should be back I guess what F tomorrow yeah so I mean Rob Rob seemed to think that he'll be back in the lineup on Friday so that'd be that's that's huge oh my God I know yeah yeah they they need him you need him man you know and it's been a tough season for him injury-wise so you they need to get this group just ready to ready to rock and roll right in couple weeks man they absolutely do and you know get schwarber should be back on Friday they seem to think you know they it sounded like he well he still felt something in the cage on when he was hitting in the cage yesterday so they just scratched him like like why mess with it and I think I think maybe if you know say they had a one game lead over the Mets right now I think you might see some of these guys playing but I think the fact that they're up eight and listen nothing has been won I get it but this is not a 64 Phillies situation you know this team is you know this team is not going to gag it away they're they're they're so well set they have a nice comfortable lead they're going to win the division just a matter of like what day next week they probably do it so uh I think they're being really careful with schwarber and JT and Bone there's no they feel like there's no reason to rush these guys back lineup it is crazy how the Mets took over the Braves isn't it they raldo Lopez it's they just losing guys left and right yeah they the Mets are you know we were talking about this yesterday like what kind of team scares you in the postseason I mean a hot Mets team would make you nervous just because oh man you just don't want to lose to the Mets you know what I mean like you don't want to lose anybody you want to win the World Series but you you don't want to deal with you don't want to deal with the Mets yeah right I mean that's that's a hot team right now but I I think the Phil if the Phillies are playing the way they can and they're not swinging out of their shoes and they're not chasing I think they're going I think they're the best team in baseball I really do I mean they're the best team in baseball right now based on record you just you know you just got to avoid what happened in the NLCS last year which is guys you know swinging out of their shoes you working on anything any big the type of player they've got a program but you could build a Gonzaga in college football at a university that you're talking about Delaware row and whatever you could set up shot and you could become the Gonzaga of college football small school uh small program but play at an elite level a final four final 16 level like they do um by getting the right kids and so you don't have to go very far I mean all the town you could go get Joe flacko out of audon you know you could go get Franco Harris and Irving frier I mean you go through the list of all the guys that are just in Philadelphia alone all the guys zier Franklin you go find all those players right here you could build a good local I mean ruers should be doing that right now but you know whatever but uh yo yeah yes you could you could initiate something like that and it could it could potentially get done in a very short period of time right so here's what I'm thinking we we got a lot of money uh there's a lot of there's a wealthy area we know people with a lot of money the issue is you can't you Temple is not going to work like we already know that Temple's not going to work and the city schools it's tough to recruit to City Schools there's not C cities like it just doesn't exist right so that's why I'm looking at either a Westchester a Rowan or a Delaware is that I need some leafy Green Space right okay so that's kind of my thought process right and I know I can command Deere the university and then use some of the big ticket people right like they're like listen in Delaware the reason why we talked about Delaware it's close by right rockers is still New York like too close to New York you could go to Delaware and you just like you go to DuPont right they've got more money than anybody right you go to DuPont you're like do you want to fund this it's Dupont Stadium you know it's it's it's a little bit like um what Kevin plank did with under arour and all the things that he has supported yes you know whether it's USA soccer or you know college football like you go to the Dupont family and you go you want to get behind us we could put Delware on the map Delaware football you could support this thing I mean that's just one you know there's plenty of other you know big business here in Philadelphia in South you know in in in that area it's a it's a you know it's it's a perfect state for taxes and certain things the bank like banking yeah you could you could bank roll that I mean it's it's that that's that's not out of in today's world that's certainly not out of the question and we got you know you got West Chester we got Pat cochi in Al Lum right there's some famous people we got Wawa near there and then rownd you got South Jersey you got that whole area that you could expand all that land and you could beef that up big time well you got to build the facilities right you know you need you need an you know you need a big International Airport like Philly um you know there's certain things that are in place um all within an hour's distance of Philadelphia where you could you could build that type of a campus you know the facilities the campus uh the recruiting centers the indoor facilities like it wouldn't take long to build the infrastructure up to set it up so let let me ask you what what what do you want to do what's your job what's your he's got to be recruiting if kids go on recruiting trips with Baldi lock down he's so baly takes him on the field to do baldi's walk yes at NFL stadium he takes him to Brazil he takes some overseas and some trips y right like I mean not nothing they're going to say no to him over Stakes no chance you're half alone here's what I here here's one of the roles that I would take C because I believe that there is a market of international players that haven't like where he's going we'll go to colia you know like he sent me to Australia all right for two weeks to go you know find the next Jordan milata send me to um you know send me to I don't know let's go Holland let's send me to Amsterdam let me go find some big send me to Germany let me go to Octoberfest and let me sit recruit like let me do the international recruit all right and then we'll have we're actually gonna go old school and part of this program I'm red shirting my class I'm red shirt like Michigan won a champ ship last year almost every one of those kids that got recruited and graduated and won a championship were fifth year players like I'm going to go old school recruit this International Group and we're going to red shirt them and then we're going to get a coaching staff that's going to train the skills and fundamentals and find out what's the best position for them just so happens he wants to go to all these countries that are like the top super models per capita I'm going to go we got to recr I'm going to go to Estonia and uh going to Brazil I'm going to Brazil like they got athlet like they're crazy about sports like send me down to Brazil I I'll recruit right on the beaches of Rio you know with the Jesus statue in the background we're GNA need good cheerleaders we need a cheerlead Squad hey so listen to this so um I'm with Vince rudo our good friend Philly sports travel right so it has this great event um at San cornado Beach South the Rio it's it's outdoor it's on the beach they got this cookout drinks a band it's phenomenal right so I'm walking back and it's like probably 8:30 at night and the one thing about the beaches of Rio which is unique to anywhere else I've ever seen in the world is they have these flood lights on the beach that keep the beaches LIT All Night Long wow and so at any given hour of the day you could have a volleyball match going on here soccer match over here so I'm walking down 8:30 at night I'm watching this like soccer camp and these kids are drilling on the beach and so the idea that like one of the reasons why the Brazilians have such a great style of play is they learn a game on the beach or in you know in a favella you know like they're learning the game without all this like dis instruction like there's a freedom to how they play the game it's almost like watching Allen Iverson playing basketball you you play on the streets of Virginia you whatever like you become just an athlete you play football you could throw football you in Italy and and Spain and you know you're right like they're they're playing in the streets like it's our basketball woles is so good is he grew up playing every sport you're in East Texas you're playing baseball okay his dad's a baseball player but you know you're you're you're shoot you're popping three-pointers like it's layups you know like the guy put a ball in his hands and that's that's kind of like what happens in Brazil so my point is if I could run some clinics on the beaches with some big Brazilians down there I could go find you I could find you four or five five athletes that we could put on our new campus in in Delaware I like it I think black gritty's right he might be too expensive is correct y black gritty said they you're GNA cross us too much money our investments are right all right that's all we breakdowns what really popped to you week one well I mean we'll start locally I mean you know saquon's involvement in the Eagles offense was everything that you could have dreamed of honestly like you know whether it's a touchdown catch or whether it's you know um running between the tackles or fourth quarter you got to lead you got to melt the the clock and he's just getting one run after another behind maai and Lane and you know Lan and the whole group I mean that that was that was impressive how Kell Moore integrated sequan with the amount of carries the amount of touches the touchdowns I mean it couldn't have gone any better than it did for saquan and that's in Brazil difficult conditions bad field like that's just the first week after not playing at all so I think everybody like you can pick you know the eagles they put up 34 points they scored on you know seven or eight possessions they had 400 yards I mean it was it was a good day and saquin was a huge part of it um you you had to be totally impressed by Dallas's defense they took Cleveland apart um this Dem marvan overan who's a new starting linebacker yeah like kid speed is blinding it's just blinding and you look at this rookie fifth round pick playing corner kayn Carson I remember on the third day of the draft you know everybody was saying are the Cowboys going to draft a running back well they didn't and look maybe it's gonna come back and bite him but I remember in the fifth round they took this Kay and Carson and I'm like okay you know he's got um he looked a little bit like quinan Mitchell when you watch him at Wake Forest like the guy's got like licky split break on the ball good eyes great tackler I'm watching him on on Sunday against Amari Cooper you know and Jerry Judy he wears number 21 he's got a little towel hanging off his back like I'm like is this Dion like he the way he broke on the ball like it was they their speed on defense was blinding just blinding and wow look Sean was bad but the Dallas defense like they were everywhere um tank Lawrence played his best game in years Micah is just you know there's nobody like him so it was that was a impressive the overtime drive by the Lions against the Rams it looked like the black and blue division like they ran ball seven out of eight plays for 70 yards to not give the Rams a chance but on the other side like Shawn McVey is just he's just amazing you've got a backup to a backup at left tackle the backup left tackle Joseph noboom goes down they elevated the kid him from practice squad who's never played in the league and he's got Aid Hutchinson on his nose and the way that McVey and then they got a backup to a back up at right time and then they lose the left guard who was all World last year to injur reserve and you're like and you watching Matt Stafford go to work and how they manipulated pass protection so Stafford could get a tick to get it to Cooper cup after they lose Thea they lose Thea I was going to ask you about that because it was so impressive right how they stayed in the game because I watched that game I charted it I'm going well this is where Detroit just blows the door they they can't survive with that line we saw it before he's a he is he's amazing that they were able with one play it's unreal like Cooper cup had 23 targets like are you kidding me it's it's just it's coaching I mean coaching is the biggest in this business McVey as good as anybody um so that that was just both sides it was a great game it was you know it was prime time Sunday night it delivered it was it it looked like a playoff game yeah to watch what the for like you think about the 49ers all summer okay no auk no Trent Williams you know all this stuff and they those two guys went out there like they like they practiced all summer yeah it was amazing Kyle Shanahan is just and Jordan M like I didn't know that mcaffrey was you know a game time decision and Jordan Mason gets a start and he runs for 147 yards and they just Whi the Jets on both sides of the ball like it was it was just impressive football by say because the Jets are not a bad team now they didn't play great and they need Hassan on that lineup uh badly they need a third rusher in the worst way and they're going to really suffer if he doesn't get in there and if they don't get things worked out um they're not going to be a great defense but to see what the 49ers did to him they took him apart and I I do not want to hear anybody tell me that Brock pie is a product of a system stop it the guy is he's just a great player I don't care what his name is how he played the guy right is boys he knows exactly where to go with the ball he makes you pay he he's a he's a trip like those things really it's amazing their their blocking schemes run blocking schemes is unbelievable like doesn't matter if it's mcaffrey Elijah Mitchell remember Elijah Mitchell going in there the last two having big games when mcaffrey was was hurt like or it's Mason like the way they run their scheme blocking schemes are ridiculous well you know you know Kyle is a product of his dad who's a product of Alex Gibbs who's brought this whole scheme Mike McDaniels copied it and perfected it you know Shawn McVey knows it like everybody that has has been around it season but at the end of the day what's amazing to me cousin I've broken this down a number of times but what's amazing to me is they literally run five plays like I I could I could draw all five run plays now they do it at of a variety of formations there's a motion to shift every play so if you're the defender if you're CJ Mosley the first thing that happens is aemotion okay so you you come out of the Huddle you you look at 11 players now there's a motion now there's a reset now there's a shift there's another reset so you you've got almost 33 different looks at the form before they snap it and there's just so much window dressing um it gets guys like CJ mosy and Quincy Williams are a great tandem of linebackers they sat there and caught blocks all all night long it it was something to watch um one other thing uh I I've mentioned this on the show with you CU a couple of times Tampa Bay is a good team they're just a good football we thought of you watching them we thought how about it guys yeah like baldi's right we we said baldi's right like they they're I mean you're right about Baker Baker looked terrific well you know they they Jason lights a general manager and um he I don't know when he hit me up like Sunday night maybe I'm flying back from Indianapolis I don't know he's like you better watch my rookie Center and I've been watching Grant Barton the guy's a great player already like he could be in the Pro Bowl this year as a rookie um he's upgraded everybody around him they got a running game going but all the rookies the rookie running back out of Oregon and Jaylen McMillan and and gr Martin they all showed up um they got just the right blend of veterans of V you know uh you know across the board you know Mike Evans is as good a Red Zone receiver as we've seen since Randy Moss they just got a good blend of Youth and Veterans and then Todd BS like the game is 37-13 it's two minutes to go and Todd BS is still blitzing Jaden M you know Jaden Daniels like he's still seeing an overload a a Zone pressure um you know a a back onb backer type Blitz I mean he never stopped coming with them and it's almost impossible to prepare for how he's going to attack you because he's gonna attack you all right so let's go through the week week two Miami Buffalo tonight I Josh Allen's fabulous I'm sorry I don't what everybody says like he it's amazing with the lack of weapons that he has and he's just such a baller he's amazing he's an amazing player he owns the offense he owns it like he's lost twice um and one of them was just a bizarre play at the goal line that they didn't score on but he's owned them I mean there's been a time when he was a rookie if it was if they were playing flag football at Hard Rock stadium the Dolphins couldn't rip the flag off Josh Allen like he's just that elusive he's just a force that's awesome he's just an absolute Force he was last week there Joe Brady has installed a really good rushing attack the really good upfront um they they although they've had injuries on defense Shawn mcder is a great coach the system doesn't change different players change but the system doesn't change I've seen them play the Dolphins CU where as good as Wadd and and Hill are they couldn't get the ball over their head once the whole day like they did last week you know in that comeback win against Jacksonville um I I but I and you know Miami's banged up already you know most of it's already out I don't know if H Chan's playing but watch this Jaylen Wright at of Tennessee tonight just keep an eye on like the kid is I like him he's a home run hitter Tua was phenomenal on Sunday down 17 whatever three 17 nothing like he just kept firing all the way to the final drive um he's just he's just really good in this system uh you know if you ask me to pick a winner tonight I would just take I'd take Miami because they're at home in a short week and it's early in the season and Tua is already off to a good start so let's look at uh some of the Sunday stuff by way what's the line on that game tonight Miami's two and a half that's about right so it's really they're predicting Buffalo is a better team but you know you know Miami's getting three points so you know because they're at home on a short week so that's probably right on right on it's probably going to be you know field goal game uh someday couple interesting uh obviously always interesting but Cowboys and Saints is interesting now Saints play Carolina and it gets ugly and the whole thing thing but how how how good are they you know what do they look like to you well I mean you look at Talay faga at left tackle he looked like Willie Ro at left tackle the guy you know Derek Brown is a hundred million defensive tackle he's their best player on either side of the ball period he's a great player um to see him drive him right off the ball like it's a one1 Oklahoma drill is just impressive he made everybody better you know uh Camaro was better uh Derek and rased Shahed can run by anybody they're good I mean d t New Orleans is a better offense right now with faga um Dallas's defense is just blinding speed wise I'm I'm anxious to see how the two rookies Cooper BB at at Center and Tyler gon hold up against a good Saints front um but I have a feeling that Dallas is going to play pretty good I mean I thought that Dak was really good uh he he didn't do a lot but you go to Cleveland and there's miles Garrett and zarius and dvin Tomlinson and you know they did a great job of game planning so that these guys did not ruin the game against young players it was really crafty I i' like I like Dallas I like Dallas to be able to hold up I think Dallas is gonna be a pretty good team regardless of all the offseason stuff one thing I know they can do they can draft and they got some young players out they're playing um I mean you couldn't tell that they were rookies well stay the NFC East the Bottom Rung of the NFC East squares off The Rook Jaden Daniels in Washington against the Giants the hapless Giants it was it was it was as ugly a performance as you could ever I mean you know there's a hundred years of celebration in that Giants organization there's Lawrence Taylor and Bill parcels and they're all there and they watch a quarterback in his six season like he was terrible but they were they everybody was terrible the coaching was bad they waited 14 plays to throw it to Malik neighbors he's their best player they spent $150 million on Brian Burns he got shut out by Christian darol like they were awful everywhere now this Washington's not a great team but Jaden Daniels like nobody wants your rookie quarterback to run 16 times but he's poised he's fast he made good decisions they don't have a good receiving core it's hard to get the ball to receivers in that offense the outside McLaren there's not much there um they they're they're going to struggle to score Point like this should be whatever the under is i' take the under but but the Giants the Giants don't bounce back and win this game like the heat on dble in that organization after all the things they did on Hard Knocks this summer um it's going to get real loud and real hot real fast L some good games man Green Bay Indianapolis now obviously it's a shame because if love was playing you know it could have been a real fun one uh I don't think Malik Wills can keep him can I mean he looked like he was swimming the other night well I mean look I mean he only played a couple snaps but um I said this summer in just watching Green Bay I said and I looked at all the backup quarterbacks who Jordan love really didn't play I'm like they better go trade for Taylor hinei like they need a backup quart they don't have a backup quarterback and here they are trading for Malik Willis which was bizarre because Malik's a great kid you want him in the quarterback room as your third quarterback right he's the third guy he's a third guy um he's had a chance to start in Tennessee he's a chance he's had a chance to back up he's just got traded for like I don't know how much the offense he's going to even know but as good a core of young receivers they have I don't know they have a quarterback that can get the ball to so well it might have looked good 10 days ago as a good game I don't think it's gonna be a good game Anthony Richardson I saw him and met him for the first time like he's Aaron judge in a football uniform you have to watch that kid every play his talent is outrageous and when ad Mitchell and him get on the same page ad's rookie out of yeah out of T he was the fourth receiver taken um when he gets and Reggie Wayne is coaching him when he when they get together this offense has a chance to be unstoppable hey what what happened now New England's defense is good uh they couldn't pressure they couldn't protect Barrow uh they they struggled mightily in the pass game what did you see there and can can they bounce back Cincinnati against you got Kansas they can play they can play better I mean I'm Gerard Mayo coached a great game they had two rookies out there uh leaden and Kaden leaden Robinson and Kaden Wallace out of Penn State like those two rookies are out there they ran the ball they melted the clock they played keep away to the very end um Kyle Dugger made a play at the go line of Tanner Hudson um if he gets in and scores Cincinnati probably wins the game um but Keon white there's a reason why they traded Matt Judah they drafted Keon white in the second round of Georgia Tech uh last year and he's 65 285 he's a big body that can rush and he's a great kid they they've got some players and so um that take nothing I mean Cincinnati didn't play great by any stretch and they'll bounce back and they'll play better against Kansas City but New England played a great game it was a every every phase of the game taking care of the football you know with the what brassette did was really really good they got some young receivers and Jaylen pulk and Demario Douglas that played pretty good to go with Hunter Henry and Austin Hooper like it was it was a great game by them they they they played exactly the way they have to play it to win games all right so last one we got time for and what's the biggest matchup that you're looking at for Monday night like just kind of looking ahead seeing Atlanta uh coming in here what's the what's the biggest matchup that you you kind of stands out to you after seeing the Falcons and you know he well I mean look um Pittsburgh took Atlanta part I mean they had no answer for TJ watt they had no answer for the speed of Pittsburgh's defense Kurt Cousins look like an age quarterback coming off in Achilles injury they couldn't run the ball so I want to see like I want to see this defensive line like get after it you know I mean I thought Vic played a good coach a really good game now they gave up a lot of points and big some big plays but I thought you know Zach played really good um you know you saw where noobe has earned the spot as a starting linebacker he played really they they played really well um how about Zack B I know you that's a meat he he deserves a meat award Zack Bon he he he he played the best game he's played in the NFL um sometimes you got to go to a different system and you know and just get turned loose I but I say it all the time you want linebackers go to Wisconsin the Eagles best
