hello Baseball fans and welcome inter league baseball on MLB The Show it's the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Los Angeles Angels [Music] all right we'll be back to get this one started after this just about set to go now Today's starting pitcher green dmer lots of punch outs a real strikeout artist singing well you don't always know what to expect with this guy in the mountain to start the game he can be really good at times and turn in some real excellent efforts for me it'll tell us a lot to see how he's attacking the strike Z pitching aggressively or not if he's doing that from the jump I think he'll be fine in this one sh Otani up to the dish good job to fight that one off singy Reed demmer's 10th overall pick in the 2020 draft you're talking about a guy who was a really good player at Louisville and in his rookie year he authored a no hitter got it by him for the K so there's a small side of relief right there I mean just to keep that speed off the base pass it's not just the pitcher it's other guys that have to think about it from your infielders have to think about that Runner potentially stealing but also be in position to make a play as an outfielder you're thinking about a base hit to the Outfield I got to get to it quickly to try to keep this guy from taking an extra base so I think everyone just a little more relaxed that he didn't reach base 32 spoils the two- strike pitch and he'll see another [Applause] and he deals ripped on a line moniac makes the grab for the second out time to check out the Dodgers lineup this is a veteran lead lineup right here a lot of players with plenty of experience singy yeah no doubt about that boo these guys have been around the game for a long time and they may not have the flash that they once did but they've got the wisdom to be able to understand different situations be able to think with the opponent and sometimes in front of the opponent and you always seem to see a team like this they come to the ballpark they know how to get down to business and they understand what the job is at [Applause] [Music] hand here's a one two in the air left side Ward running hard to get it makes the grab on the run and that is that it's the Dodgers nothing Angels coming up you're watching Major League Baseball exclusively on the show back in Anaheim and on the hill for the Dodgers Walker buer how about a report on him Chris well he comes at hitters with a five pitch mix so for him it's always interesting to see how he utilizes those weapons he may lean on one or two pitches depending on how things are going and how things are working but if he can control four or even five of those offerings look out hitters it's going to be a tough day he's really going to be able to keep those guys off balance here's the left fielder Taylor Ward next pitch is popped up roas settles under it hulls it in for the out all right let's take a look at the Angels lineup singy were looking at a really young lineup here so not much experience but it ALS o means they're going to bring a lot of energy to the table most days well we're in a golden age of young players I mean these players they're getting up to the majors they're dominating from a young age bringing home plenty of Hardware early in their careers I mean before they even get to free agency so you know when you consider all of that I love seeing the kind of energy that a team like this brings to the yard every day day in and day [Applause] out here comes a pitch out to short roas slings it across here tonight an efficient start to the home first two away the first B number 18 and here's the first baseman number 18 one of the things that's interesting about Walker buer getting picked in the first round is the Dodgers had a pretty good idea he was going to need Tommy John surgery and he did and he debuted over a year after he was originally selected following surgery and a onew got him looking that's a strike out Angels go down one two three we played an inning no score top of the second here's teoscar Hernandez tar herandez [Applause] next pitch in the dir and that's ball two two and one the count now he hasn't seen a fast ball yet but you've got to be ready to hit one because you doubt the pitcher wants this to go to a 3-1 [Applause] count two- one pitch is in there and the count is even Joe McDonald doing the home play duties here well Joe is an interesting one I'm always trying to figure out what exact his zone is feels like it kind of moves around from game to game sometimes inning to inning the next pitch misses and that's Ball three yeah I think that's fair I don't think he's ever way off with his balls and Strikes but yeah I don't think it's easy to Define what his zone is like you said got him one away oh big Power guy right there and generating so much bat speed it's hard to bring that to a halt once you've committed they tried to check the swing just couldn't do it the batter now will be Will Smith one ball two stri that misses the zone two balls two [Applause] strikes Now One Missed no score here in the second [Applause] the punch out there and there's two away off to a strong start singy as he's punched out three of the first five he's faced well he's definitely minimizing contact he can get the swing and miss when he needs it but he'll also keep the defense fresh behind him allowing some balls in play as [Applause] well hacks and misses it's a strikeout Dodgers down in order we'll go to the bottom of the second no score and welcome back here's Anthony randone up to the plate third Anthony the pitch in the air left field Hernandez settles underneath it one down [Applause] and next for the Angels mickeey monia and he walked [Applause] him just missed his spot on the inside right there even though Walker buer went to Vanderbilt he hails from Lexington Kentucky and so he's a big Kentucky basketball fan check swing he went one and two [Applause] swing and a miss struck him out I mean there aren't many curve balls in the sport today that break like that thing does huge movement it's so difficult to get on the same plane and even think about squaring up let alone get a piece and hope he throws something else to keep the advat alive Brandon Drury to the plate got the back going to soon at strike two [Applause] swing and a miss and that is that Angels leave one we'll move to the third with no [Music] score back here at the Ballpark on to the third inning here's Max Muny that funky mun Max [Applause] Muny falling behind two and [Applause] one left-and hitter Waits Swang and a miss two and two now knocks that one away and will do it again here's a two- Two bows it back with two strikes the big Lefty turn turns kick steals swings and misses struck him out that slider wasn't even close to the strike zone and he got him to chase that's just a bad approach right there either he was looking for something else and got completely fooled or he was sitting all over the slider and just couldn't resist the temptation but man really expanded right there and didn't have a chance of making contact with that pitch [Applause] swinging a highfly ball out there towards Left Field Ward makes the catch for the out out number two just pulled off of it a little bit right there that front shoulder coming open instead of staying closed if he does that he's going to be able to go up the middle the other way with some Authority instead of a fly out to left swings and misses and it's one and two [Applause] got him swinging I think the key is arm action on the change up when you can sell it like a fast ball you drop the velocity you get The Swinging mess and you walk off the field welcome back set for the bottom of the third here's Joe Adell and the pitch that one is absolutely belted way back there and it's gone so he leaves the yard to left and they jump out front it's one [Applause] nothing oh boo clearly some frustration out there on the mound right now I mean that ball was so close to going foul would have been a long strike but instead batter gets rewarded did a nice job of getting to the pitch and hitting it hard enough to get over the fence and the batter now niik kavadas always exciting to see a latoff home run and an inning kind of gets the offense fired up and you start to expect a big [Applause] inning goes down swinging for the strike out had him out front for strike three it's a good breaking ball there just off the corner where you can't really do much damage but it's close enough to where you got to protect and he just couldn't find a way to fight it all kicks and Deals swings through that one out in front that time righty to the plate and now it's three and two recognize that change up right right out of the hand just spit on [Music] [Applause] it that's a laser base hit so they get a man aboard with a one out single right there does a great job of staying in the big part of the field man there are a lot of hits there number nine the next to hit for the Angels he's over one and another [Applause] ball Ward stands at first with one [Applause] out that misses three and one now 31 and that's Ball Four well interesting he went with the off speed and walked the hitter man you got to challenge the guy with the fast ball so one out with two a board and next for the Angels number 18 32 fights it off he'll see another some real good life going through the Zone on that one part of the order coming through now and with one home run already in this inning they're definitely looking to do some more damage [Music] cuts and misses it's a strike out he's really good hitting the baseball the other way so credit the pitcher for having him out in front of that pitch clearly he had him fooled so first and second with two outs and now it's the Angels clean up batter Anthony randone two and one now that's down and in Mickey moniac up next for the Angels first and second two down fouls one away and now three and [Applause] two and a pitch Swang and a highfly ball left field Hernandez makes the catch in and over Halo strike first with the solo shot it's now a one nothing ball game and as we go to the top of the fourth and now the DH sh Otani OT and now the Lefty that's to third Zips it to first one up one down now batt right now it's mukie bets 0 for one so far one down base is empty and a big swing and a miss man he really sells the change up with that arm [Applause] action fouls it off still one and [Music] two the W the kick the pitch and delivers outside the Dodgers still looking for their first hit in this one swing and a ground ball out to short tosses to first two up two down here comes Freddy Freeman up to hit 0 for one with a fly out the 2-1 and there's the ball teoscar Hernandez up next for the [Applause] Dodgers 3-1 and he couldn't come up with it boo do you think you could draw Walk In The Bigs if we gave you enough at bats oh that's a good question um I think that if they gave the pitcher a false scouting report on me yes I think I could draw [Applause] one and he hits a ground ball right side he takes it on his own and that will end the inning one left for La they're down one nothing back here at Angel Stadium John chabby and Chris Singleton with you and leading off the bottom of the fourth Mickey moniac swing in a miss two and two he's pitching well but not throwing a ton of first pitch strikes usually doesn't work out for success but he can never predict baseball swing and a miss struck him out couldn't catch up to the heater the catcher Logan ohappy digs in now 0 for one he struck out swinging last time and the rander deals Now One Missed [Applause] next offering is in for a strike ball two [Music] [Applause] strike foul ball left side he'll see another you see how the catcher wanted that pitch up and in want to try to tie him up that's the one thing we're seeing that high fast ball you have to get it up there because of how hitters have changed their swings three now caught a break right there pretty good pitch on the outside [Applause] corner swings through it and that's a strike out man I really like the ability to bounce back right there after not getting the call he probably should have gotten didn't let it affect his focus and he came back with another good pitch to get him swinging just missed two ball one strike next offering is foul [Music] back the two2 and that's a strike out looking a controversial called strike three to end the inning and the angels are gone in order but they still lead it one nothing back in Anaheim ready now for the fifth inning here's the catcher Will [Applause] Smith good eye right [Applause] there and the next pitch is way outside expect for that guy to come right at you with a fast ball something in the zone because he does not want to allow the lead off [Applause] walk the wind to the pitch stays alive and a payoff pitch and so the Lefty allows the lead off free pass well he opted to go with the off speed stop on that 32 with the bases empty close pitch but now he's got to work out of the [Applause] stretch swing and a ball popped up and that one gets down Fair ball the throw to third he's in there oh that's to strike hidden right there he did well just to put the ball in play with the way Defenders track down balls these days I mean both from the infield and in the Outfield there really aren't a lot of base hits on balls hit like that but there's always a little room back behind the first and second basem to drop a long Dart in there and he found a way now a pretty big b coming up with a chance to even this ball game up movement in the Halos Bullpen ransy contras getting ready to go Zephyr John getting cranked up as well swinging a Miss three and two now well in this situation with a runner on first less than two outs some say hey get the ground ball double play with two strikes some people say get the strike out I think you just execute your pitch goes down looking well just couldn't pull the trigger on the fast B right there and I don't think he was taking it thinking it might be a called ball or anything I just think he was flat out frozen did not expect that location in my opinion on third Edmond at first one gone next one misses and the count two and one this is a situation where the hitter is looking for something up in the zone that he can get his arms extended what you have to be careful of is that pitch that's up that's in on your hands that'll pop you up in the infield and that's exactly what the pitcher wants checks over to First back safely another throw over and he's back in that time as well the 2-1 just missed he's looking for a ground ball to get a double play and out of this [Applause] Jam strike two it's a hitter you don't know what to expect here in the 3-2 if he'll throw a breaking ball 3-1 he'll do it again 3-2 line drive that's a base hit the tying run is in to score from third we're tied at one well there you go the RBI machine another clutch run scoring it back yeah he's been so good in these situations call it clutch if you want but his resume speaks for itself Chris Taylor now and that is cut on and missed now one and two [Music] [Applause] and a pitch keeps the it back going with a foul ball swing and a miss struck him out couldn't catch up to the heater back to the top of the lineup here's Jo Otani left hand batter weights backs and misses it's a strike out a lot of adrenaline we can see it right there and sometimes you just got to let it out that's an outstanding job of taking that executing and getting out of a tough [Applause] inning and welcome back ready to go for the last half of the inning now it's going to be Joe Adell you know these Angels doing a great job boo of just waiting for the right pitch to come their way and I'm seeing very patient ADV bats out of them I'm exhausted from watching some of these ADV bats lots of full counts and a ton of pitches with the starter still out there they're taking up a lot of his energy and that'll fall for a base hit he puts it in his pocket safe at first without a play I don't think that pitch would have been called a strike but he did such a nice job of pulling his hands tight to the body and just getting enough of the barrel on it to be hard enough back up the middle for a knock and now Nico kaval swing and a miss that is strike two BO I can't even keep track of how many full counts we've had in this one I've messed up my scorebook because there have been so many and you know my scorebook is a work of [Applause] art at the belt and fires this one high in the air to left Center Edmond in position drops into the glove and there's one down the throw is wild and it gets away the left number three Taylor Ward the next to hit for the Angels one for two definitely wants to stay out of the double play here ball on the ground in the infield should be an in ending double play the 1-1 to First might be two Roos for one return throw to first got him double play and that'll do it one hit in the inning but nothing more than that we're through five all tied 1-1 Ryan Miller gets handed the rock out of the pen your and now it's mukie Betts infield playing him to pull second baseman just to the right of the bat Miller he should get a pretty good pitch to hit here with three hole hitter coming up if he he [Applause] walked good plate appearance there able to take the walk I don't think he really wanted to pitch to him right there anyhow Freddy Freeman up to the dish Miller checks on first back standing he's in there safely [Applause] 3-2 tap softly to the right side goes to Second safe there what Happ and now tasar Hernandez here's a 1-1 and that skips into dirt with a lay off that pitch [Applause] down next offering is fouled back [Applause] two two now this to center field moniac as this one sized up squeezes it and there's one down yeah that was a wasted RBI opportunity but competitor like him he is looking forward to making up for it in his next atat and up to the plate is Will Smith next pitch misses two and one vets at second Freeman over at first and one away and a foul [Applause] ball he's gone off speed he needs to elevate here with two strikes out of the [Music] Zone kicks and fires on the ground two ball Drury over to Second and that's two well the second basem made that one look easy great feed to the short stop Short Stop completes the play they get out of a jam and they end the [Applause] [Music] inning welcome back the batter will be the short stop number [Applause] nine the line in the pitch fights that one away still one and [Music] [Applause] two and now two and two two two caught him looking for the k boo he was shopping at the Buckle right there the way that slider on the mound now Michael Peterson he's into the game with the Bas is empty so digging in number 18 got it by him for the K well they've had a great plan of attack for him tonight I mean finding all the holes in his swing and his approach just frustrating for him up there you strike out a guy three times in a game I think that guy's got to go back and really study some video with his hitting coach figure out how they're beating him make this adjustment really quick cuz word will get around the league in a hurry throw on to Freeman that takes care of rendone third out Angels held in check still tied 1-1 all set for the start of the inning and at the plate for the Dodgers Tommy Edmond Tommy [Music] Edmond and the two two and that's downstairs and outside this is a really good feeling for a hitter at this point in the ball game you know that they don't want to walk you so you're going to get a pitch to hit you just better not miss it fouled off again and it remains three and [Music] two the pitch it's a lead off walk and that's the go-ahead Run man that's a tough one to take on the Full Count but I guess he saw really well it's a really nice plate appearance go ahead run on base Here Comes Max munzy two balls in a strike Here Comes that's a strike with two strikes may see some movement over there at first base trying to stay out of a double play [Applause] here the goahead Run on the board at first nobody out pick off throw Edmond Dives back in [Applause] safely Mony hits a highfly ball right field and he brings it in on the warning trap man that's one of those ADV bats where you have to remind yourself it's about the process he did everything everything right right there nothing to show for it but in your mind you have to convince yourself that it was a very good ATB Miguel roas at the play picked up an RBI in his last at backat still their only run of the game so [Applause] far this one popped up right side diving and he can't make the play and that's the second out of the year on the force play wow this is one of those plays that happens sometimes but it never really should seems like you just got a bad read on the ball and the good throw from The Outfield was perfect to get the [Applause] out Chris Taylor steps to the plate for the Dodgers who's over for two with a pair of strikeouts the pitch and a count one and two two gone the possible go-ahead run at [Applause] first hard ground ball base knob and that moves the go ahead run to scoring position with two gone well they found himself behind in the count right there but he didn't give in pretty tough for the infielders to do anything with that one he pulled it hard into the Outfield and even when you keep it on the ground it feels great great when you hit a missile like that a chance now to take the lead and at this point in the game that could be a deciding run sh Otani steps to the plate for the Dodgers next offering misses and it's two and [Applause] one swings through that two ball two St roas on second Taylor at first two out the [Applause] inning the next offering misses and that's ball three mooki bets the kind of bat that can make a big impact if they can keep it going here two outs that's a base hit Runner around third on his way to the plate he will score and a 2-1 ball game now mission accomplished there as as he picks up the RBI to give him the lead nice line drive to full side met it out front but just stayed through it nice enough and ripped it into the Outfield and now they've got some speed on [Applause] first so we'll see if they try to get him in motion pitching change here Bose kih just trying to keep this one close here and this is where a bullpen can give their guys a chance to fight back into the game swing and a miss and a count one and two snap throw to first Otani back easily Runners on first and third two [Applause] away swings and misses STP him out P the string of the change up but the RBI sing pushes across a run and this is now a 2-1 ball game Major League Baseball is on the [Music] show back here at Angel Stadium set for the last half of the seventh here's the center fielder Mickey [Music] monc the next pitch miss misses and it's two and one movement in the bullpen Michael copc looks to be getting ready for manager Dave Roberts Honeywell getting loose as well the two1 swing in a Miss thre that fast ball right by him slightly elevated that's a confidence boost for this guy out there on the mound see got him and one away in the bottom of the seven a big first down here in the seventh via the punch out yeah it just does so much to change the Outlook of an important inning like this when you got the lead off hitter so critical in setting the table when you got a tight game like this so a strikeout really puts them on their heels so now one and [Applause] two and a pitch and a ball even a [Applause] count next offering is outside Brandon Drury a deck for the Angels righty delivers swing and a miss and he is down on strikes for the third straight at B they've had a great plan of attack for him tonight I mean finding all the holes in his swing and his approach extend the inning and he's homered already so I'm sure he'd love a chance to do some more damage here the kick the 3-2 and it's Ball Four he missed down low well that's a nice job of grinding out that at bat saw a lot of pitches is and ends up drawing the wall Very gritty now it's the right fielder Joe Adell he's already homered here in this [Applause] one on the ground right side Taylor whips it to First and that is the inning Angel strand one and they Trail it here two to one back here at the Ballpark where the top of the eight leading off Freddy Freeman the two two count activity in the bullpen for the Angels ransi contras is loosening up this would be his first appearance for the club the wine of the pitch foul ball and it remains a full count [Applause] popped up foul territory behind the plate ohappy makes the grab one away and next will be the Dodgers cleanup hitter teoscar Hernandez next pitch off the plate two and one you get to this part of the order yeah there's some pop there but more likely there are some base hits so very important to be patient let the pitcher walk you if you will randone throw to first two up two down here in the top of the eight now Will Smith steps to the plate for the Dodgers [Music] the pitch next offering misses down and away two balls two [Applause] strikes gets a piece there we'll do it [Applause] again hard grounder into the outfield for a knock all over that one right there wasn't able to elevate that one but he sure hit it hard enough to get through the infield there's not a whole lot of time for The Defenders to react and try to make a play when it's ripped like that swing and a miss and the count one and two [Applause] here comes a pitch and it's even [Applause] up and he deals and that's too high 32 two out runner on first lot of movement in the infield hitters got to stay focused on the pitch Max Muny waiting to bat for the Dodgers three and two now out there to Center moniac has a beat on it brings it in for the third out so the Dodgers leave one but they still lead it two to one back now new pitcher on the mound as we roll into the bottom of the eighth Michael cop these are the spots relievers really make a name for themselves late and close there's not much margin for error but at the same time there's a reason they're put in these situations the Dodgers Bullpen with some action Evan Phillips a right-hander with big strikeout stuff is getting it fired up next pitch is outside Taylor Ward to bat next the [Applause] 3-1 in the air center field Edmond in position and it's caught for the out well such a confidence boost for a relever to come into the ball game and get the first hitter he faces just makes everything slow down a little bit and then from there can really settle in puts it in the air out towards left Center hauls it in and there's two away now the number two hitter number nine strike out and a walk next offering is in for a strike oh no signs of wavering on the mound here in the eighth he's looking Rock Solid so far foul ball still a one and two count and the one two misses to even the count well he's so great about hitting the ball the other way gets those arms extended so right there just trying to straighten him up a little bit so he doesn't have as much outside play coverage vs makes the catch and that'll do it Angels go quietly there and our score remains 2-1 roansy contras will take over here pretty tight game so they're looking for Quality pitches out of them right here got to do his best to keep the score right where it is well one-run game Max Muny steps to the plate for the [Applause] Dodgers three and two now swings and crushes one right field way back and gone Max Muny leaves the yard and they add a run it's 3-1 he absolutely crushed that one no doubt about that one boo we knew it wasn't coming back knew what pitch he wanted to hit spit on some other pitches in this at bat was very patient and it paid off Miguel roofs steps to the plate for the Dodgers one for three way inside gets out of the way two two two now swing and a miss and he struck him out now one away and at the plate for the Dodgers Chris Taylor the pitch he goes down looking third time he struck out in this one and defin an individual performance you want to flush he just hasn't looked very comfortable up there just one of those days but when you're still winning the ball game at least you can focus on doing your part to maintain that lead and getting that W Mookie Betts up next he really committed to that fast ball up at the top of the Zone he knows that if he makes a mistake in the zone it gets hit hard by a power guy like this that's a nice Miss right there [Applause] [Applause] two down nobody on swing and a miss struck him out had him out front for strike three that funky Muny with the H Homer for LA and this is now a 31 ball game back and here comes the closer Evan Phillips and we all know about a slider it's just filthy man and one of the better ones in the game I'd say spin rate's very high and it just breaks a ton Swang and a pop up roas puts the squeeze on that one and there's one down the third Anthony randone making his way to the plate hey look we'll see how it factors in I just can't emphasize how much that Insurance running the top of the ninth means I mean just such a big difference mentally when you're chasing two runs instead of one the 2-1 swing and a miss chased it out of the Zone pitching has been pretty dominant in this one but you got to be careful not working with too big a lead they could get right back in this ball game if you're not careful righty to the plate and that just misses well he's not afraid to fall into a two- strike count knows the strike zone very well so much so that I think umpires will look at him and determine whether it's a ball or strike if he swings or not swing and a miss struck him out that's out number two and now the center fielder Mickey moniac the two- one they say he [Applause] WI two-run game with two away here in the bottom of the ninth out towards right center field Taylor on the Move drops in for aeit couldn't run it down and that keeps the inning going that's tremendous fight from him and I know it's got the Dugout fired up down there down to the last strike and he comes up with a hit to keep the game alive it ain't over yet swinging a Miss it's a ball in two strikes [Applause] [Applause] and that's outside moniac off of first with two [Applause] away next pitch misses Full Count three and two big pitch coming right here last thing he wants to do is put the tying run on base but he can't Groove one either got him and that's the ball game 3-1 ball game quick game we were looking for a little bit more it seemed it points the offenses were going to break out but a total of four runs combined really good pitching and defense on both sides just a couple of key swings making all the difference and your final 3-1 for Chris Singleton and our entire
