FRANCIS FORD COPPOLA RESPONDS TO “MEGALOPOLIS” TRAILER SNAFU | Film Threat News

[Music] [Applause] [Music] because I just bought my tickets to a special Monday screening of megalopolis at the AMC Burbank 16 in IMAX I got a seat guess where I got my seat in the front row what three hour event with a live stream uh interview I am in the first seat on the corner I'm still going but uh let's Francis Ford Copla now is talking about this the trailer snafu which was an a concept for a trailer but it was inaccurate Allan if you would read this out of what uh is this from indiewire uh this is from indiewire yeah yes Francis Ford Copa calls megalopolis trailer snafu a mistake an accident he then says I am I am the one who said there were bad reviews uh the director tells uh Entertainment Tonight um Francis for Copo for the first time responded to the megalopolis trailer sneu calling the use of fake film critic quotes a mistake and an accident the UR told Entertainment Tonight at the film festival screening in Toronto that he's not sure what happened with the first trailer but did a little but did take a little responsibility I'm the one who said there were bad reviews but I don't know Copa said it was a mistake and accident I'm not sure what happened the marketing play was an initial for the initial trailer used quotes from uh very real and iconic film critic citing cop's past uh Classics like The Godfather and Apocalypse Now was discovered that all the quotes turned in out turned out to be fake and some of the critics writing positively about the few films in question um the since removed trailer positioned megalopolis as another misunderstood Copa feature that will be considered a critical success decades from now uh but when it was found the quotes were made up potentially created by AI chatbot distributor Lionsgate pulled the trailer and apologized and cut ties with that marketing company um let me see I I do want to get down to uh what he says I want uh Copa says I want to I wanted to find a film that was uniquely mine he said while I made John grisham's the rain maker I took off and quit I said I want to study and learn what kind of film what my kind of film is whatever that might be and after 14 years of that type of experimentation I then came out and made a film that was my kind of film uh Copa previously told Empire magazine megalopolis is a feature that leaps into the unknown unafraid as we know the art we rever uh bizit Carmen's uh artists like Picasso mon matis is art that in its time was considered too risky or a failure Copa said Apocalypse Now is a perfect example when it came out people said what the hell is this but they never stopped going to see it with megalopolis you can't put a label on it and that's great that's the kind of film I like uh same I Copa and I are the same I like movies that take risks I like movies that are challenging eraser head was a film I went to see over and over again El toppo by Alejandro yorski a brilliant Western that that is very spiritual um fil like Apocalypse Now I saw that as a kid I didn't understand it but I kept going to see it so much of it was so epic and visceral and and violent and just amazing that movie is like we are still talking about it so when I saw that megalopolis got mixed reviews made sense so I cannot wait to see it I will be at that event hopefully I'll be able to move my seat to a to seat not in the first row but but I I can't wait we will have our review uh that week so I can't wait it's uh September 30th Allan yes special special screening I believe yeah uh yeah trying still trying to find a place that hoping they'll do extra screening well there's a seat next to me in the front row you could join me okay I'll take a look um I am looking forward to megalopolis and for the exact same region you are reasons you are uh been a big fan of fers Ford Copa for a very long time uh you know my love of Captain eio uh so I'm I'm definitely look it looks the trailer looks weird uh and I but I feel like I get a sense of what he's trying to do um I will say the movie Babylon I don't think I could put in that category uh I'm wondering if you have similar feelings now that we're about two years out from that movie from Damen chazelle I love that movie I know but have the legs the ending the ending is weird I love that movie uh Babylon yeah but is that movie gonna be you know the movie that people hat yeah I don't think so I don't know sometimes you have to let things simmer sometimes like he says comes out in its time people are like what is this I don't know if I like it then suddenly they're talking about it five 10 years later yeah I mean I'll admit watching Babylon I didn't like it but I did see that he was trying for something like this he was trying to say something bigger by the way babon was directed by Damen chazelle yes not the sh not Copa did didn't I say I said chazelle okay it's fine okay similar similar movie I get it exactly yes okay go let's hey oh grumpy Chris today only if only we you saw the arguments before the show starts grumpy Chris I'm not grumpy I'm just I like to be accurate okay spelling is important to me you got the uh title of megalopolis right in the thank you you spelled snafu right yeah I will I will say that this is today was the rare occasion where Chris showed up to the stream before me and and now I'm paying for it so there you go whatever
