Q&A: Rolex OR Patek Philippe? 🤷

what's up everyone welcome to another episode of talking timepieces with Tony I'm Tony today I'm wearing my Breitling top time Triumph it's hard been wearing the uh uh what you may call it my gmt126710 blnr Batgirl all week you know so I thought I'd change it up a little bit and wear my uh my beautiful Breitling because I got the Breitling about a week before I got the Batman or the Batgirl so anyway uh another episode of uh Ask the Magic watch ball and for you A lot of my newer subscribers or people who don't know magic watch ball is just a fun little episode nothing serious um back when people well people still do it where they just have Rolex predictions and Rolex predictions but no one has a crystal ball as to what they're gonna do but some people are very adamant and very straight as to what they think is going to happen they don't know so I have a magic watch ball 79 accurate we're gonna ask the watch ball questions but first let's roll the introduction and uh um and did you get the call for your op41 so did he get the did Alfie AKA Ronald dog get the call for the magic uh for the the blue op and at this point it's hard to see okay so I also throw in my two cents worth on this one uh I don't know man did you I hope you did um and if you did congratulations but uh you haven't mentioned anything so I'm gonna assume that you didn't but if you did then you were waiting for this video so if you did get it congratulations enjoy it we're in good health if you didn't get it why you think you got the call what do you mean you think you got the call was well they why else would they call you unless he's like my ID where he just calls me to tell me to follow him on Instagram or something like that you know um anyway let me know uh Davis Prince congrats on the new bat girl brother thank you very much I appreciate it um I'm happy for you uh watch ball question should I always use the same sales rep at my A.D also when I buy a Rolex what kind of margin are the sales reps making on a two-tone datejust let's say I always wondered how the commission worked thanks watch ball I don't get into the financial aspects of what's trading watch dealing watch selling or any of that money doesn't is irrelevant to me what I am here to do is tell you the truth about watches and what watches you will or will not get or what whatever else uh okay watch Paul seems angry at that question dude why are you what does it matter what they make I I'm not trying to you know I appreciate your question I don't know what they make I don't get that in depth or you know that I mean I'm I know my A.D really well you know but I don't ask him about the money aspect of it I can tell you this with with Bindi I don't know about your neck of the woods or other aeds but there's a lot less commission on Rolex than any other brands because Rolex sell themselves they're too easy so um for instance this is a 5500 watch probably makes more Commission on this than he did my GMT Batman I don't actually think he makes anything on those um again because they're just it's a simple cell for them so I don't know um as far as uh always using the same sales rep you're at your ad yeah yeah I mean absolutely I don't even know if your ad would allow another rep to to sell you something if you have a spending history and you deal with one person only stick with that one person yeah floating back and forth or trying to ask one rep to another rep if they can get you something it's not going to do you any good in fact it'd probably do you more harm than good so yeah stick with the uh stick with the same sales rep they know definitely um but thank you dude um always appreciate your uh questions and comments and things like that um W let's just take another sip of beer okay it was a weird day um W and below me oh yeah question for the magic watch ball dead and Co is done after next year and if Bob Weir goes on Hiatus live music is dead who else is that who else is who else is there that's out there that can put on a great show watch ball I have no clue what you're talking about and I'll put my two cents in with that too so basically what you're asking me is something I have no clue of what you're talking about either I don't know I don't even know what that is man sorry um I guess I'm not in the loop with that kind of stuff but thanks anyway um uh this one comes from I met a girl I can't make up my mind between a 2013 quartz Patek Philippe no papers but reputable seller or a 2005 black dial datejust with fluted bezel Jubilee bracelet and hidden clasp it has box and papers uh the quartz Patek is seven thousand dollars and the datejust is almost nine thousand dollars after tax third option is a Rolex explorer that I've been waiting for Rolex explorer that you've been waiting for that's it Rolex Explorer awesome thanks watch Paul as always a great help um and I'll add my two cents um Patek Philippe are my favorite brand and you're you're getting offered a quartz Patek Philippe for seven thousand dollars and it's 18 karat white gold um I know this because you told me so um and the datejust is a 2005. I would I would or the Explorer what you've been waiting for I know you're on the waiting list the waiting list for the Explorer wait for the Explorer I don't recommend the Patek man I love Patek but the thing is is that you're going to get a 2013 uh Patek that's you know 10 years old with a quartz movement you know you don't know how that watch has been treated if something it's not just about the battery on those things you know if something happens to the movement unbeknownst to you of what was how that watch was handled previously or what the deal is um and something goes wrong with it and that that movement you know they don't generally repair those you know they're pretty much just replaceable movements you know how much money are you looking to get involved if something goes wrong with that watch again I love Patek but I would not risk spending seven thousand dollars on a pad Tech with no papers no no history whatsoever you know nothing about this watch you're getting it blindly in the mail you know and anything goes wrong with that watch you're kind of because you're gonna have to you know send it back to Patek if something does go wrong with it and you just don't have any idea how much that's going to cost you know again course movements in general are fairly inexpensive even for the high-end uh even if it's a Patek quartz movement they're not expensive to make but they will certainly charge you for that um give you an example of when I had an older Porsche and it broke down and it I got the the quote on what the repair was and it was astronomical it's not the fact that it's an older vehicle it's the fact that it's a Porsche you know what I mean it doesn't matter it has that brand it has that label on it Patek Philippe has that brand has that label on it so um as beautiful as that pad Tech may be I would recommend waiting for your Explorer and if anything else and you didn't want to wait for the Explorer then go with the Rolex to adjust patex I recommend if you're going to buy pre-owned buy something automatic for the most part um something with service history papers you know just so you know where that watch has been how well it's been cared for all right thank you uh this is a question for me Johnny tolinto tolento um what's up Tony quick question for you is there a financing option at your ad this year will be this year I'll be turning 40 and we'll would love to treat myself not sure if you get them outright but just wondering if I've say I'm just wondering I've saved about six thousand dollars to treat myself for getting old well hey man congratulations for turning 40. I was there once you know so um I don't recommend financing any watch whatsoever getting yourself into debt for a watch is not worth it man buy something you can afford six grand and you didn't say what you were looking for but six grand you know you're right there in op land you know what I mean uh so you might be able to get an op and not have to put too much more money out to get that depends what you're looking for but I don't recommend it I I certainly don't know if if Bindi finances I doubt it but I think you know the companies that Finance are generally companies that are like the the secondary Market companies I don't I don't think uh there's a financing option if you have to finance that watch and you walked into Bindi Jewelers and say do you offer financing on a Rolex you're more likely not ever going to get that Rolex anyway you know so I hope that helped Eric Cooper um got a jlc Utes blue dial Master Control date some biscuit dude I love that watch um ask the watch ball will I be getting one this year will I be getting a jlc my sources say yes awesome thanks watch ball well who knows man maybe uh my input here on this would be yes I love that watch man it's it's a watch I've I've been wanting for a long time and and for those who don't know I did have one for a very very brief period uh last year um just didn't like the dial color it didn't work for me I sent it back before I you know I bought it and then it just didn't work I was I loved the watch though so who knows man we'll see all right uh my video is getting along I hope you guys are still here if not you don't even know that I'm saying this um this is from the husband of metagirl and I know his name I don't know his name's Jason well uh wants to know why datejust are becoming more available but not other models like the GMT and that's an awesome clip you posted of your Batgirl and that was on Instagram thank you I love it too um why are datejust becoming more available than other Rolex models it's fairly simple uh the datejust is not as sought after although the most popular watch that Rolex make but is not as sought after as say a GMT Batman any of their Sports models they do apparently make more of them than the other models and slowly but surely they are trickling into the ads uh more or less most like more more two-tones than steel but that's where it looks like it's going my two cents worth not anyone in the in the YouTube world of anything really knows if Rolex makes more datejust but I think they do that's really just a hypothetical do they yes see so they make more of them than than the sport models uh the way they're allocated and distributed also to the aeds it just depends you know it seems like that those are the one the watches that are becoming more readily available also some of the uh the sport model two-tone sport models are are a little bit easier they're not as sought after and they're not you know they're they're just so they're there's more of those getting pushed on to the ads so to speak so having said that um I think that's where you're at with that um datejusts are awesome is my favorite watch datejust is my favorite Rolex um so having said that you guys this video is long I appreciate everyone who likes and subscribes and uh yeah take a quick sip of beer and we'll we'll see on the next one huh
