up they've been getting ready for this game since early this morning and Wilder we have a fun one here ahead a top 10 team walking into the snake bit of an environment just trying to get out alive this will be fun as we'll see the number seven team of the country the Penn State mney lions taking on a squad from the Big 12 the West Virginia Mountaineers for EA Sports football and Chris F join during the booth by KK Street KK let's get to the action on the field the NY Lions will kick it away and start us off return starts from inside the five he can't stop him he stopped at the 19 good job by the coverage team so the West Virginia MERS offense will be the first up today this quarterback takes the field eager to see how he plays today there's a certain gravity about him you can tell from the warm-up song the way the team are spots and rallies around him can he come through on a big stage here yeah this guy is their Superman when that opening kickoff is kick up into the air his cake goes on he sets everything into place gets the offense out of jams does it in pressure situations he's the arms and legs this offensive system but also the heart of this team first down play call how a impressive will it be he'll hand it off he's found some R with the 45 head out of bounds after a solid gain more than enough to pick up a first down Bigs like this are just demoralized for a defense it's one thing to give up big plays over your head against the pass game but when teams can run the ball and pick up yards like this really affects the team's mental psyche and confidence and you'll start to see some M tackles following a play like this and at first down they go right back to him they'll stop him behind the line for a loss of one first I think we all kind of get caught up in third down what what's an offense doing on third down but I think what's also important is how well you defend first down if you can hold your opponents to a short gain or a tackle for loss you throw the offense out of whack and their game plan gets much more challenging to try to come up with that first down you know they finally stop him but a decent game that time just love watching his back front Gets behind that offensive line lowers his pads against a nice solid game come up on third down solid Drive defense trying to get off the field here it's a Dr play tackled behind the line it's a loss of two man the defensive coordinator has to be fired up about this play the thing that he has to love is that his defense and their technique was right on point they didn't lose their leverage they stayed with the play and didn't just go after the quarterback and the MERS will bring their punt team onto the field hter comes out for the first time today looking to pin him back punt goes out of bounds looks like they'll spot it near the 15 so P saes offense out there for their first possession well it's not easy to narrow down the impact players just a few guys what do you expect from them today well we got guys that can make plays as well as anybody in the country on both sides of the ball that's why I think this matchup is so exciting two good teams with great individual players they've got him but he picks up eight yards sets up a nice second and two great job by the offensive line opening up some HS and giving the running back run on first down plays like this can open up the playbook for the play caller allow him to make that defense St they get a run may play action maybe throw the ball down field second down after that run on the previous play and now the running back's guided again Breaking Free at the 35 tackle is made but that's good for a first down of the 47 they trust the left side of that offensive line and come up with a huge play on the ground yeah your fa Chris there the old pin and pole there the left side great blocking on the left side able to create a great push nice crease and the back found that with the vision and picks up some big yards for that first down and the midney Lions looking to run some Tempo [Applause] here they'll run it here that's the running back with the ball defense stops him but that's a solid game I'll take that every single time offensive line does a nice job up front this backs vision and ability to get positive yards by lowering his PS on full display right there second down after that run on the previous play and here's the handoff good enough for first down yardage what great job up front here getting this first down by this Penn State offense and great combination over the years we've seen in State College the ability to run the football with an offensive line they can get that push and a big physical back to can be a pick up those yards to get those first downs the miny Lions they moving quickly down the field and they'll try to pick it up on the ground breaks one tle gets brought down but picks up some decent yardage there I tell you to be able to pick up a nice game like that those offensive linemen have to sustain their blocks gave them a chance at a really nice game second down after that run on the previous [Applause] play to throw it's Allen and he'll lost it to the end zone oh it's picked off what a play big takeway now looking for a big return pass the 50 the 30 pass the 20 going to take it all the way in quick six touchdown m a and a pick six a monster play by this defense here that Defender showed a lot of athletic ability there with the ball in his hands I wouldn't be surprised if the head coach watching that thought about maybe giving him some reps as a returner after that touchdown [Applause] they try to add to the lead now with the [Applause] p p makes it seven he's good the kof team on the field now is a get set to send this one away they'll return it from inside the five he'll be tackled at the 18 that's good coverage there in the mney Lions offense retakes the field move the ball last possession but a devastating end of the drive a pick six and they recover from that right now grab behind the line it's Singleton defense makes the tackle as the final seconds of this first quarter run out that has been in large part the Lions on the ground game which has been featured from both sides for this one so far [Music] [Applause] they've flipped ends of the field ready now for the second period after the first down loss it's second and long from the 17 caught behind the line it's Wallace to get him down quickly not much of a gate in that completion again this is a really nice job here by the defense keeping everything in front of them in that situation now they're rewarded with this third and long we'll see if they do the same thing here or they going to settle out to bring the pressure offense been in Reverse here now a long way to go to convert this third down makes the catch it's Clement not much after the catch but it is good enough for a first down what a clutch play Here by this offense to convert on third down I know it's still early in this game but the fact that they dug themselves a hole to convert there and keep this drive alive they got a new set of downs and a chance to dig into this lead the NIT El Lions line up on First and 10 now ball handed off goes backwards losing three yards there how about the timing here by the defense to shoot that Gap as an offensive lineman you have to anticipate that close that Gap off otherwise it could be a long day offense getting set it's second down from the shotgun now here's a hand off inside that's a nice tackle there by the SE see that's how you limit what an offense wants to do this time the defense just won the battle up front at the line of scrimmage not giving up any big plays everybody's Gap sound it's really solid defense on that play tough spot the offense has to convert a third and long from the 30 to get this drive going dropping back we going to throw for the first down there's a screen pass to the running back the tackle is made the defense was ready for that screen they sto him short of the first down the offense gets some positive yards here but they're going to be short of the first down marker to set up fourth down really good job by the defensive tackling and the awareness to keep him short of that first down Mark and the mney lines will line up to boot it away the offense will punt for the first time this afternoon bringing it back it's Fox the returner is tackled by this pun coverage team the West offense is back out on the field they were forced to punt it last time now they're looking to respond and add to this lead they bring him down after a short game there just a good job here by the quarterback got the ball out to his receiver his guy eats up some yards they stay ahead of the sticks second down play coming up [Applause] scanning the field it's green receiver makes the patch stop out at the 39 but good enough for a first down that's a nice pick up there they find some space in the zone and pick up the first down yeah really nice call here Chris to be able to pick up this first down on this drag route the quarterback does a nice job of being patient waiting for that window to open up in that zone and he put it right on the money for the receiver to have a chance to not just catch it but eventually get the first High completion good for a first down the offense working with a new set of downs here there's the snap looking to throw the ball fires it to the W and it's intercepted beautiful timing there follows the pck with a nice return before finally being brought down Chris he's just trying to find the hole in his own coverage but as you know those windows can open and close pretty quickly especially in the middle of the field so the timing's got to be just right or you going to see an interception like this and the penate offense is back out on the field well it's been an entertaining first half not much time remaining to cut into this lead they'll come out throwing here to start the drive beautiful catch right near the sideline gets the foot down anytime you have a sudden change like this Chris I'd love to see the idea of this quick strike the defense barely really has a chance to get established and get set next thing you know they're dealing with an offense that's coming right at them trying to put points on the board fresh set of downs it's first and 10 and the quarterback dropping back looks left and finds his Target there and the defense swarms not much G on that completion CHR more we watch these spread offenses attack in today's game it's not just about the vertical shots with the tall receivers on the outside defenses are challenged even more by those smaller slot receivers in their quickness in space Lions looking to take advantage of the Red Zone trip here dropping back it's Allen here's a shot toward the end zone and it's caught touchdown NY Lions perfect timing here by this quarterback great puts the ball where his man can make a play on it and they're an extra point away from tying this game [Music] [Music] up now the important point after attempt [Applause] and it's up and good kick is good that time the [Music] game kickoff teams on the field let's see if they give the returner a chance to bring this one [Applause] back and he takes this from inside the five not much on return they'll stop him at the 24 good coverage and the MERS offense is back out on the field this offense trying to bounce back the last possession and then in a pick first play of the drive look going to throw the football oh nice play by the defender got a hand in there to break up the pass oh my gosh they almost came up with another interception they had a pick on the last Drive they're doing such a good job of baiting this quarterback and throwing the ball into coverage and then making a play on the ball let's see if they can keep this going incompletion sets up a second down quarterback drops back from the shotgun looking for a receiver and the completion made so the offense calls timeout here as their first of the half offense showing a bunch formation now the defense spreads all over the field playing Zone trying to make this quarterback make a mistake by throwing it into coverage but he finds the soft spot on the curl and picks up the first down it's a big game before he goes out of bounds he will move the sticks more than enough for a first down this is what coaches love to see quarterback with the ability to read the defense properly and then just get it to the open man sometimes it sounds simple but it's tough to execute this time we have good recognition by the quarterback and he gets it down to the tight end you can see what he can do after the catch to the air it's green fires it to the white out he makes the grab what got F the game losing football 30 the offense will quickly spend a timeout here after the play The M has begin a new series here first and 10 and he drops back in the gun it's picked off he tried to fire the ball into a tight window B carrier running through tackles he steps out of bounds a solid return and a great play to set up his offense here I'm going to give the defensive coordinator a tip of the cap here they went with dime coverage with six defensive backs which gives them a lot more speed on the field and with those defensive backs they're able to play better in space they recognize the ball step in front of it for a nice interception and the Penn State offense comes back on the field they reached the end zone the last time out trying to do the same thing here he's got an open Man Down field and it's caught the offense will Now quickly spend the timeout the great execution here by this offense against Zone coverage with a curl route hit that last step in your drop you see where you want to go with it put it right on his shoulder for a first down CAU over the middle it's fling and a quick timeout call by the offense after the play it's really good timing here between the quarterback and the receiver how about the receiver downfield does a nice job of finding that open space in the zone of the defense and as a defense you're just basically throwing your hands up in the air because they had that covered relatively well just a good play call and good execution BR up [Music] second the mney lions are in the Red [Music] Zone looking to pass here on second down receiver looks it in it's complete BR down but the completion moves the ball inside the 10 yd line defense getting pushed back the offense spends their final time out of the half here talk strategy to the air it's Aller launching one to the end zone and it's incomplete targeting a man right through the go line oh my gosh what a misc here by the offense after all the preparation and all the practice time a play like that will absolutely break your heart they had everything they wanted just unable to complete In The End Zone it's a big time drop quarterback wants to throw it on second down that one is over everyone's head Beyond The End Zone and [Music] incomplete so the offense takes the field in the final seconds of the half chance for just a couple more plays on Third and go he's going to try to throw for it and he decides is thr away that's going to bring up fourth down now hey it's an incompletion but it's a nice job by the quarterback I know it didn't T out but the most important thing is he didn't turn the football over and he didn't take a sack it'll give your kicker a chance to put some points on the board if they op for the field goal here on fourth down so they won't take a shot at the end zone out comes the field goal team trying to get three before the end of the half and it's good well they almost put a touchdown on the board but instead they come away with three point 10 West Virginia [Music] [Music] s so here's the kickoff now offense settling for three tacking on a little bit of momentum before the halftime break the turn begins inside the 10 tackled at the 22 job by the coverage team right seconds of the first half they will just take a knee and head to the locker room looks like the offense content to run the clock out here and go to halftime talk about the second half and that will do it for the first half here Kevin Connors now has our half time update all right fellas the end of a very intriguing first two quarters of football in Morgantown and I get it a lot of coaches will say the difference between winning and losing comes down to stopping big plays and getting big plays but if you ask me it's more about how good you are on third down and how efficient you are in keeping drives alive those two stats can help you break the will of even the best defenses and help you come out on top that's said let's get back to the field and our guys in the booth to start the second [Music] [Music] half and the MERS will kick this away get in the second half he's going to return it from near the goal line they stop him at the 23 that's solid coverage and the NY Lions offense retakes the [Applause] field we start the drive with a quick throw to the left side defense surrounds and just a short gain on that compion this is an example of a quarterback and his off just taking what the defense gives you not a huge play but positive yards defense wants to give that throw to him take it get the ball to your receiver stay ahead of the stairs and they hand it off to the back a quick shoot moves his way for a first down to the 35 but these the type of runs that begin to wear down your defense psychologically already have the lead come out with a nice big gain and this defense is thinking oh no here we go again really nice statement here to get this second half started first and 10 play coming up to throw it's Allen quick throw to the left side and he's got it explosive play and the offense will set up now inside the 30yd line the defense is spread all over the field creating some one-on-one matchups and the qu some pay for [Applause] it and the mney lions will crank up the tempo On The Run it's Singleton and that run produces a decent game listen you don't you have to have big plays to be successful it's a nice solid game here keeps you on schedule and you get ready for that next [Music] play second down play coming up for this [Music] offense they're going to run the option pitch play to the back the sler able to bring him down [Applause] so now it's SP and short from the plus 24 could be four down territory interesed to see what the call is here from the gun he looks for an open man grab down the middle it's Warren there's the tackle but first down yardage that's a great feeling when your quarterback can make a throw and keeps the drive alive not as good as a touch down but it's a lot better than having to trot over to the sideline waiting for your turn to get another chance mney Lance with first and 10 here in the red area it's Singleton been a decent gain there before the defense brings him down I think this defense keeps thinking about them throwing the football and by doing that opening up running Lanes good positive yards there by the running back here comes a crucial down play every yard tough to find down here in the Red Zone he'll ride the back again here they tackle him behind the line a loss of four they tried to get the counter play to the edge Cur we see this defense show their ability to pursue and find the football yeah they sure can and they did a nice job on this counter play a lot of times you'll see those counters go more up into the middle of the defense but they tried to bounce that to the outside and that gave you an idea of what kind of speed this defense has goes backwards losing three yards there what a great jot by this defense backed up deep in their own territory inside the Red Zone but they get penetration to come up with a loss [Applause] there coach electing to go for a field goal attemp he made good on his first try this one is from 36 yd away the field goal is good I was watching this guy in pregame he has got a strong leg I'm surprised here he's able to put three points up here for the offense [Music] [Music] so after coming away with three in that drive the kickoff team is [Applause] out bringing it out it's Fox he's tackled at the 17 so it it better to leave it in the end zone for a Touchback and maters offense is back out on the field the senior tries to take a shot but overthrows his man I'm a big fan of the RPO but it is a dangerous play for the quarterback you got to make the right decision on this play it just seemed like he was a little hesitant unsure and it cost him here with an incompletion now it's second down here and he's back to throw again after that incompletion on first down it's a screen pass complete to the running back good time here to drop this screen in for the offensive coordinator and a nice job by the running back being able to pick up some positive yards here on this play that completion sets up an important third down play they call the draw play here fighting for yardage with the defense stops him just short of that first down marker comth number [Applause] 41 but he's got some space here the returner is brought down and that will do it now for the third period and Kirk it's Penn State on top as we break for the quarter we reach the of three time is running out to cut into the lead let's take a look at the game sets before we move on one quarter to go let's see if this sets up as a classic finish and the Pate offense is back out on the field from the shotgun hand off inside that one moves the ball across the 40 hey you got to do what you got to do you got to rely on that offensive line in the running game here to be able to secure a victory good call and just keep con that [Music] clock second down after that run on the previous play takes the ball and heads to the left nice run he's brought down to the 44 I feel like they call that KN chances are they're not going to hit a home run but look at this with themselves in a perfect third down situation it's much more manageable now we'll see they can offense looking to keep the drive going here third and short now from the 44 they'll try to move the chains here on the ground this offense picks up the first down they tackle it at the 44 I love it third down the way this back is running just keep feeding him the football and he's going to come through for him and he does here at a critical moment in his football game in the fourth quarter nice job the nney lions come to the line to set a fresh set of downs they'll keep it on the ground trying to run some clock boy this guy who just keeps playing good football he's like a bowling ball out there gets low support running over top of Defenders just a pretty Runner and a big cor the reason they're enjoying this lead here in the fourth [Music] quarter the game makes it second in medium from the shotgun it's a off you sen you able to make the stop after a short game positive yards are always important for our offense but at this stage of the game late in the ball game playing with the lead you're thinking about working that clock and continuing to keep the ball in bounds here we go late in a tight game this might be the biggest play so far third and two looks right for a quick completion and he picks up the first down tackled at the 32 well the defense gets these guys to third down they got a chance to get him off the field and instead they give up the first down so the clock will continue to move and the defense is really at the mercy of this offense at this point first down here the offense has time for one more play before the two-minute warning we head now to the two-minute warning as this offense tries to bleed out the clock and secure this win and the mney Lions pick up enough yardage to keep this drive rolling takes the hand off and he head left tackled behind the line it's a loss of two now it's the defense that calls timeout here trying to get organized and preserve as much clock as possible second down after that previous play offense will keep it on the ground here and he's got it already past the first down marker now a timeout taken by the defense trying to preserve as much clock as possible for their offense you know sometimes Chris we get caught up in the speed and the quickness and obviously those are important assets to have as a running back but what you just saw from this guy and he's had a pretty good day is his ability to break tackles in the open space and he gets through the got a lane can he get in makes it across the goal line touchdown and State well that's why you practice right there Chris this offense had the pressure the game on their back they deliver they get a touchdown and now make this a two possession game with under two to go like their odds of closing this game out [Music] now a two-point conversion attempt coming up on the ground trying to punch it in for the score this time he stopped short scored the touchdown but doesn't back it up with the two-point conversion now they get set to kick it away Fields it inside the 5yd line and he stop at the 20 TR make up and Happ that's good coverage there and the West Virginia offense is back out on the field they're coming off a quick three and out so looking to put something together on this drive a little more urgency tackle made after a solid game they spot the ball for 31 you know we talked this week with the offensive coordinator about what makes this receiver so special he kept referring to his route running here's an example of that great route enough separation to give the quarterback a nice Lane to throw the football now they've got to hustle to the line and get set on First and 10 here looking to throw the ball breaks free and with nobody the open he chooses to just throw it away Chris on this play he has nobody open it's better than taking a sack he doesn't get intentional grounding because where he threw it there was an intended receiver I think there's no harm no foul here an incompletion makes it second and 10 dropping back it's green receiver makes the grab well executed he finds space and gets the first down yardage and this is why they want to get his hands on the football as often as possible we always know about his ability to make plays downfield but here they just get it to him quick on a wide receiver screen he shakes a tackle and picks up nice yards they move the six the Hur to the line here on first down [Applause] now from the shotgun drops back and he throws his third interception of the day and he's got some open field ahead crosses the 10 brings the interception all the way back touchdown Mitty Lions what a job by this defense to get this pick six and on the other side what are you thinking throwing the football with a nice lead with under two minutes to go now we've got a one possession game if they make this extra [Music] point so they'll try to add to the lead now with the p extra point up and good a 19point lead now here in the final quarter that makes the score 26 West Virginia off team has come on the field now to send this one away fielded In The End Zone it's Fox tackled at the 13 not great field position to start the drop West Virginia offense is back out on the field at this point there's not much you can do except play for Pride he dumps it off to the tight end they make the tackle but that pass creates a solid game the coach quickly calls time out after the play trying to hold on to as much time as possible scanning the field it's green PC finds a Target on the right it's complete four set of bounds after a big game this offense set up for the first down well this offense has a long way to be able to get back and potentially win this game but they're doing the right things managing the clock picking up good yards and getting out of bounds completion good for first down yardage for this [Applause] offense and he'll set up to throw escapes the sack going to try to use his legs here he'll avoid the big hit with the slide well I thought the defense had him here Chris he should be down the back field but instead he gets out of the pressure and actually picks up some positive yards getting set here's second down [Applause] [Music] this [Music] [Music]
