CATCHING UP ON PHILLIES: 3 WINS vs ATL | KYLE SCHWARBER 3 HRs IN TORONTO | BRYCE HARPER HURT?!

[Applause] roads [Music] media what is going on everybody welcome on in to sports talk with broess it's been a minute and it's weird to say that the last 5 days have been extremely painful I can't thank everybody enough for the kind messages and the condolences and more importantly I can't thank all of you enough who sent the gdo family all of your thoughts and prayers over the last 5 days because as a community we need to Rally together for them they are the greatest human beings in the world and I can't stress that enough nobody deserves to go through what they are going through currently Maddie and Johnny were A+ people Maddie was one of my best friends in this entire world it's unfathomable it is so difficult it is heartbreaking it is gut-wrenching and I can't stop thinking about it so I'm not NE necessarily sure how the next few days are going to transpire I don't know how the next few months are going to transpire I'd imagine it's going to be a lot of suffering and nobody deserves to go through this whatsoever it's hard it's horrible it seems like a nightmare every single second of every single day I don't know how else to put it but I just want to stress the importance of the thoughts the love and making sure you're keeping the gdo family in mind and we'll keep it like that for [Music] now I don't really want to expand on it much more it's just terrible it's just terrible so I'm not necessarily sure how to even transition out of something like that to talk baseball but I'm just going to do it I'm going to rip the Band-Aid off in in in a way see if the next 25 minutes or so can be an escape by just talking about the game and Maddie and Johnny Johnny would call in all the time and talk about how the Phillies should bunt he'd call in as John from South Jersey and only me and him knew who it was and he talk about the fight and fails and he say this team needs to bun and he meant it too he wasn't just saying that to piss me off cuz he knows I'm so anti but he would say the team needs to manufacture runs especially in Extra Innings when there's someone on second base and they start off the inning with the free pass why don't you move him over the third base and uh it's it's just it's unbelievable and Maddie would tune in and he'd take snapshots or excuse me Snapchats of me on on the radio or on the podcast and he'd disagree with something I said and he' he'd start the Snapchat off and then about five seconds in he'd say shut up and turn it off and then send it my way and all what you know bust in Stones as friends do I'll miss it I'll miss it I would love to hear another shut up again there's nothing I want in this world more than those scenarios to play out again but um okay so we'll start here in regards to baseball impressive Series against the Braves we haven't spoke since then you're telling me they won three games you're telling me they went and took care of business and not only took care of business but had to fight back in a couple of those outings game one you're down 4 nothing and the way that you got started was a Brandon Marsh 3 run Jack cuz briyan snitker left Charlie Morton in way too long and you took advantage and by the way I know this was a little bit back there so I apologize that we have to go all the way back to to game one against the Braves in a Four game series but bear with me it's worth it okay I promise you it's worth it because of how great the results were not only did Brandon Marsh of all people take char Char Morton to to Mars okay Nick ctios hits a two-run Jack to take the lead you shut it down Nick ctios at one particular time this season I thought the MVP of the team was Trey this isn't just we're living in the now and I'm absorbing recency biased you could look at the longevity of how Nick is has taken the field every single day and has been consistent for a long ass time the highs of Trey Turner let's not forget massive but the lows are devastating the defense sucks and the injury costed him a lot of weeks and a lot of games missed Nick trots out there every day and right now is a machine and he's been consistent for a while now but he's even coming up clutch and large and walking off the Braves in game four when EST stez is battling in extra innings for two innings what I loved most about what transpired against Atlanta was the at atmosphere we were looking for attitude from this club and for the first time in a long damn time it smelled like October they were playing with that edge that we've been desperately screaming for and as soon as a huge matchup against a big time rival and let's be honest that was a series for the division and you punch him in the mouth when you're down and you win two clutch games in epic comeback fashion they were down two nothing in game four you think it's over you think it's dead you think the team walks away satisfied with the split because mathematically speaking you're in great control of the division but no no no no no no remember it was niki3 RBI I tried something it wasn't really clicking for me Nicki double Nicki bombs Nicki two bags niki3 RBI that's trash I'm sorry I'm out of rhythm I'll get back I promise but Nick puts the whole team on his back and he's strapping up the back pack go and all right what do you want you want double or do you want what do you want what do you want I can give it to you anywh you want okay I'll give you the long ball I'll give you the double you want the single how do you want it please oh I'll give it to you down to nothing Bullpen electric you got a lot of different options too Rob going with hofman instead of EST stez that was early in the series how about Zack Wheeler seven scoreless Nola six Innings two earned runs so you're top dogs delivering against that team that's important the one hiccup along the way in that series was Ranger but Ranger also in a very weird position because instead of sending him down to get a rehab assignment he was essentially getting his rehab assignment in The Bigs so remember how he started off on fire he was striking out everybody it was funny a bunch of us got together and one of my buddies said yo broses what are you thinking you think ranger can get over I think the number was it was either four and a half or five and a half strikeouts knowing he was going to be limited due to the pitch count and knowing he's not afraid to pitch the contact I said ah it's probably going to be the under so don't worry about it he starts striking out everybody everyone literally everyone start the game and the over hit eventually so I guess I can kind of just look at what he finished with but I I know for a damn fact the over ended up hitting I don't know if Ranger is technically back and as he stretches out his arm and he lengthen let lengthens himself he can continue that level of efficiency or we have to try and survive in a world where he might be more of a four or five inning dominance lad and have to go to your Bullpen earlier before he hits any sort of wall because he's never seen this type of workload before and then of course he missed so much time so when you factor all of that into the equation that's what you're going to get from Ranger which wouldn't be a bad thing by the way if Wheels is wheels and Nola is NOLA and Ranger is a star but only for maybe four and 2/3 or five I still think there's ways around that and that could be extremely successful and then of course you have to wonder what the Christopher Sanchez is maybe he's a five ining guy as a four in a seven game series I'm not sure I do know that second seed in the NL though is continuing to be on my radar massively I demand it there's a lot of big games coming up I'm not trying to jump ahead here the Toronto series is what it is there's a Miami series but then you have what there's the Rays in there too right but then there's Mets Brewers Mets some big ones not trying to jump ahead and real quickly here I don't think I'm going to have a postgame show for the Toronto game two I got some Bleacher Report stuff I have to do I'm heading back into the WIP Studios Wednesday night after the Phillies Blue Jays game two so I got a lot going on here coming back from all the time that I took off the Eagles are coming up and that's going to be extremely huge on my plate too preparing for the first game in Brazil so I'm just laying it out for you as we see the Marlins as we see Toronto here don't expect every single game in totality just for the upcoming stretch I'm just putting that on the table uh there are some concerns here though there are some concerns here Bryce Harper does not look right first off when he's swinging and he has to drop the bat because his wrist or his elbow I don't care what Rob Thompson says quite frankly I don't care what Bryce Harper says I remember talking to Tim mcmanis about this when it comes to the Eagles and he said don't listen to what they do excuse me me wrong wrong don't listen to what they say watch what they do don't listen to what the Phillies say absorb what's going on on the field Bryce Harper ain't Right the dude hasn't homered in forever now I don't know what the fix is I'd say try and sit him down for a little bit he says he's good he wants to be out there he wants to battle through it quite frankly I'm willing based off of what they did against Atlanta and how they stole the division with that Series win I'm cool with giving them a little cushion because you need Bryce I'll sacrifice maybe a loss against Miami hell if they lost this game against Toronto with Tyler Phillips you stunk you had to pitch Taiwan Walker you think the home run that he gives up is back breaking you leave so many runners in scoring position you hit into a brutal double play and Mundo Sosa continued to struggle with some big spots the list goes on and on there was something else in there was it Marsh maybe Marsh off the top of my head had a position there to do something and he failed Big Time guess what I won't Crush you I won't destroy you because of what you build up with the Atlanta series well I'll sacrifice a win or two if Harper has to sit and he should be able to beat up on Miami anyway or even this Toronto team I didn't know half the people on that roster half the people that came up to the plate I said who I had to Google them no clue they stink even without bom even without Bryce you should be able to win these games but even if it does come with a price tag of maybe a loss here or there you need Bryce this this price not going to cut it I'm not trying to be an but it's not going to cut it so I'm worried about Pryce I need power from the guy boom when he swung and hurt his hand what's up with that and then Nick ctios got hit by a pitch and he was removed that's the least of my concerns of the three but you just never know Trey Turner sliding he got banged up a couple different time on the base pads whether it was him shaking out his hand or wasn't there a sequence where maybe hit into somebody's leg Now's the Time because of how awful it looks I'm not always willing to play the precautionary route sometimes they do it too much and they're too soft about it pry can't even hold on to the bat if now's not the time to actually consider giving him a few days off so he can recharge and I don't want to hear for a second that that won't do anything maybe not look maybe not but if the alternative is to ask him to take the diamond every day and to take hacks like that where the bat flies to the dirt cuz he doesn't have the strength to actually hold on to it I'm willing to take a chance even if he takes six days off seven days off I don't care I'm willing to do it right now and I'll hold the team accountable where sure I might sacrifice a win or two but I still need you to win games meaning I'm just throwing out random numbers but if there's seven games and you go four and three instead of five- two fine you can't go three and four you can't go two and five and then all of a sudden you come back to me and gow bro you said you sacrifice a win yeah you still got to do a decent job here because why are we paying you Trey why are we paying you JT why are we paying you Nick why are we paying you Bryson why are we paying you any of these guys and remember at the at the time of this like wheeler would get a start Nola would get a start you got to still win those games so instead of five and two you can go four and three but you can't go three and four you can't go two and five whether that's hypocritical or not so be it by the way if I miss anything I apologize I wasn't as locked in as normal I'll say this though it's really awes awesome excuse me to look at the last few series this is why when some fans kept pointing out that the Phillies are just not a team that could beat good teams you were wrong look what they did against Kansas City Super impressive look what they did against the Houston Astros important look what they did against the Atlanta Braves those were three consecutive series and the reason why I was getting aggravated when they were failing when they were losing when they dropped two a three followed by drop droing two or three dropping three out of four after that no no no no no no no no no no I won't accept it because I'm holding them to a reasonable level where I know what the standard is I know where the bar is set reasonably for this team then they started to to do that but I knew deep down that's not who they were that's not who they were that's why I was getting right in the face and spitting there's still even another level here because of Bryce I just don't know if we're going to get it because I don't know if there's enough time to get him to a reasonable Health um percentage I'm not sure but if I had to take a shot at this if I was the Phillies I'd be sitting him down because he can't do anything right now he's too beat up all have a gripe um our I can't believe I'm actually saying this other than Zack Wheeler and Aon Nola oh I don't trust a single person in the pitching rotation nobody not even Christopher Sanchez he can have really off games see you BRS all right so you don't have any faith in anyone I don't know I mean if you're comparing Christopher Sanchez to other team's number four starters out there I don't know how much better you can do right now if you're comparing Christopher Sanchez to Garrick Cole Zack Wheeler um chrisel who might be winning the NL sa young this season which I did not see coming whatsoever what a bounceback for him well then yeah I understand how there's different tiers to this but if you compare Christopher Sanchez to other teams fours well then it's completely different uh I feel good with Ranger for a short amount of time right now I still need to see the rest of his Starts Here throughout the regular season before I come to a different consensus of course my opinion can change rather quickly with the month of September upon us here and then I'll see what it's like when we actually hit the postseason but there's nothing really that can compare to these four in general as a four um so yeah I mean the ranger thing still does scare me I'm definitely not saying he's back just because he did well before he showed signs of not being stretched out because I don't know if he can hit a sixth inning I don't know if he can go through seven Innings of that great ridiculous filth where he's striking out guys left and right and super poised there's a reason why he had to take some time off and they were trying to limit him because his innings were getting so high we'll see um so that's your gripe huh you don't feel really good about the pitching sta how about the bullpen though how about EST stez how about Matt Str how about Jeff Hoffman they did throw a shut out against Atlanta right right I think their Bullpen has definitely given me some good feelings lately Kirker in starting to feel good about him I actually remember I wrote down for game one of that series it was Kirk that's why I I I did that so when he had Trey Turner's costly error don't forget about that Sanchez was rocked by Matt Olen twice this is when they were down four nothing but still won the ball game when Brandon Marsh hit the home run against Morton they were still down one the score was 4 to3 what I thought really switched the energy in the ballpark was in the seventh inning where oryan kirking faced Whit Maryfield got him out and then struck out Solair and ouna backto back and what I heard from the Philly faithful and what I heard from those fans in that ballpark what I saw with my eyes when people were riding ing behind the catcher it was loud it was intense it was sick it was so sick it was Philly's baseball again but Orion kiring that's why I want to bring it up that's why I want to put a focus on it it's Orion kiring of all people that I thought really put that extra fire into the ballpark after Marsh and without that I don't know if you get the Nick costano big shot I don't know if you get the five to four for victory in the W you got a lot of good options right now I get being cautious about the staff to say I don't trust anyone outside of wheeler and Nola well how many teams have a three outside of their one and two that they could definiely definitively is that the word yeah I don't know that sounded weird to me couldn't really get it out but any team's three I just brought it up with Sanchez right well let's do it with the three how many teams have a three that is dynamite where there's zero questions if they are going to have an elite game or not you know they're having an elite game probably not many probably not many realistically outside of any team's Ace the rest is beatable think of the Braves they got some good arms they got Chris saila they can get the max freed Spencer strider's hurt right now I'm just using them as an example because I do anticipate seeing that team again that's a matchup that is definitely going to happen but how about Lopez Lopez has a 2 ER right now Lopez that's why I clicked on his name Lopez can definitely can definitely do some damage there who else Charlie Morton you can beat schwellenbach can get to him I'm not saying they have bad pitchers I'm telling you outside of chisale and then you got Lopez fair but I don't know how many teams have a three in this case where it's automatic yeah dominance doesn't work that way BR Kyle schwarber Kyle schwarber Kyle scharber it was looking Grim but that boy saved us that boy saved my parlay he saved everything look at with trans worst ever gamble the Phillies are winning it all there's this guy that we follow on Twitter called book it with Trent we fade him every time faded him and Kyle schwarber answered the call that boy definitely listens to September by earthwind in fire before every single game this is a Phillies year baby I'm putting $5,000 on a Phillies World Series right now as you should as you should I know we've all been tamed and we've all been skeptical on if the Phillies are actually quote back or not but it does get a sense that they are right as bad as Toronto is for you to win that game with how bad it was I mean you left a lot of Runners let's be honest okay how about we just we go right here uh most of us thought that they were going to lose that game right I mean 61 it started off great 61 and then after Taiwan Walker sure you fight back and score a couple runs but it just seemed like it's it's hard it's hard to win a game when you're starter can't even get out of the damn first inning and then Taiwan comes in after going through a couple of innings scoreless he allows a home run and you know then the wonkiness happen when you hit the ball over to the first base side and runs are being scored it's like what is going on laying down in the middle of the infield there on the infield Dart no out is actually recorded it's another hit uh for the swar anator I don't know it didn't make any sense whatsoever but whenever they do Turn the Page and become that great baseball team again there's one way to describe what they do and they find ways they win there's never a time where they're out and while we thought sure they're probably not going to do it as they kept hanging in there you went well when the team is hot they do win these games so it kept some optimism there because you understand that when they are great and when they are the right version of the team you can never count them out so the fact that they did win the game tells you that they're back because they do win those type of games when they are back does that make sense to anybody maybe the answer is no maybe that literally doesn't make sense to anyone but it made sense to me let's take one more call honor man Brothers I'll let you know real quick you've been in my thoughts love you man but to get down to business what a huge team win to come back pick your guy up after what was obviously a disaster at the start of the game and I mean Kyle uh what can you say uh how much it means for this team going forward if he's finally snapped out of it and starts producing again I mean that's that's going to be huge obviously a little bit worried about Harper but you know I think he can pull through but we'll see uh you know maybe takes a couple days off but um yeah man what a game huge dub keep going forward go Phils I'm worried about Bryce I'm worried about Bryce I am I am that's where we're going to wrap things up here but as for right now I'm worried about Bryce thank you guys all so much for hanging out with me you guys are the greatest in the world you know I love you to death and I
