>>> WE ARE MOVING ON THE MAP TO CALIFORNIA WHERE WILDFIRES HAVE CRUISE AND NEIGHBORS ON THE RUN. MORE THAN A DOZEN WILDFIRES FUELED BY A DANGEROUS HEATWAVE AND PUSHED BY PRETTY HIGH WIND. THIS IS A VIDEO OUT OF SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY OUTSIDE OF LOS ANGELES. THIS CAL FIRE MAP REALLY SHOWS YOU A BETTER IDEA OF THE SIZE OF THE AREA WE ARE TALKING ABOUT. THIS IS THE LINE FIRE AND IT EXPLODED TO MORE THAN 20,000 ACRES. CREWS TELL US THAT THE FIGHT IS FIERCE. ONLY 3% CONTAINMENT AT THIS HOUR. RICK MONTANEZ JOINS US LIVE FROM SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY. >> Reporter: FIREFIGHTERS ARE DEALING WITH DAY FIVE OF THIS FIRE. EVERY SINGLE DAY TEMPERATURES HAVE BEEN ABOVE 100 DEGREES. VERY HOT FOR THESE MOUNTAIN COMMUNITIES. YOU SEE THAT SMOKE PLUME THAT WE'VE BEEN WATCHING AS THAT FIRE HAS BEEN BURNING ALONG THE RIDGE BEFORE SUNRISE. I COVERED THIS FIRE ON FRIDAY, 12 HOURS AFTER IT STARTED I WAS ON SCENE AND IT LOOKED CALM LIKE THIS AND THEN IT ERUPTED OVER THE WEEKEND, GROWING FROM 500 ACRES ON FRIDAY AFTERNOON TO NOW MORE THAN 20,000 JUST A FEW DAYS LATER. >> WE ARE ALSO UNDERSTANDING THAT A STATE OF EMERGENCY HAS BEEN DECLARED BY THE GOVERNOR AND THAT WILL ESSENTIALLY GET MORE STATE DOLLARS AND TO HELP FUND THE FIREFIGHT, RIGHT? >> Reporter: RIGHT. WE'RE TALKING ABOUT MORE RESOURCES AS WELL THAT INCLUDES SOME C-130 AIR TANKERS THAT WILL COME IN AND DROP ABOUT 3000-4000 GALLONS OF WATER AND FIRE RETARDANT. THEY WERE ABLE TO GET ONE OF THOSE AND SOME OF THOSE BIG, GIANT AIRPLANES TO COME AS WELL AND THEY HAVE 1300 FIREFIGHTING PERSONNEL ON THE FRONT LINES BECAUSE OF THAT DECLARATION OF A STATE OF EMERGENCY. >> WE THANK YOU FOR STREAMING WITH US TODAY. FIREFIGHTERS TELLING US THAT HEAT AND STEEP TERRAIN IS MAKING IT TOUGH TO PUT OUT. >> THE TERRAIN IS ONE OF THE HARDEST PARTS WHEN IT COMES TO FIGHTING THESE FIRES IN CALIFORNIA. BACK TO THE LINE FIRE, THE ONSHORE WIND STAYING CONSISTENT OVER THE NEXT 24 HOURS. THAT BRINGS IN RELATIVE HUMIDITY TO THE SHORELINE BUT WE ARE DEALING WITH STRONG WIND AND THE FIRE CONTINUES TO GROW. IT IS NOW AT 20,000 ACRES AND CONTINUING TO GROW. AND LOOKING AT THE WEST COAST, THEY ARE NOT ONLY DEALING WITH FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS BUT RED FLAG WARNINGS ARE IN EFFECT RIGHT NOW THROUGHOUT SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA. THEY ARE ALSO BATTLING EXTREME HEAT WITH DAYTIME HIGHS SITTING IN THE TRIPLE DIGITS. LOOKING TO THE NORTH, OREGON AND IDAHO ALSO DEALING WITH MAJOR WILDFIRES AND THAT SMOKE CONTINUES TO TRACK OFF TO THE EAST. DOWN IN THE SOUTH THAT THEY ARE DEALING WITH EXTREME HEAT FROM SAN DIEGO TO LOS ANGELES. THAT WAS THE BIG WEATHER STORY THIS WEEKEND, ADD THAT TO THE FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS AND THEY ARE IS A LOT OF CONCERNS ABOUT AIR QUALITY IN THAT REGION AS WELL. THIS WILL AGAIN TO IMPROVE OVER THE COMING DAYS WITH A BIG CHANGE AT THE SHORELINE. GOING TO THE MAP, DAYTIME HIGHS WIDESPREAD THROUGHOUT THE STATE DEFINITELY FEELING SUMMERLIKE. DAYTIME HIGHS IN LOS ANGELES SITTING AT 100 DEGREES. PHOENIX THIS AFTERNOON, AS WELL AS LAS VEGAS, ALSO SITTING IN TRIPLE DIGIT WEATHER.
