your Auburn Tigers are 1 and0 on the 2024 campaign taking down the Alabama A&M Bulldogs by the score of 73 to3 you heard me right 73 to3 let's talk about all the stats the storylines of course our talking about what we think we saw what we kind of know we saw uh all the different things that just transpired in the first game for 2024 Auburn vers Alabama A&M 73- three my goodness folks I don't know what I was watching at times um in a good way it was wild it was quick it was vicious it was unrelenting and came oh so close to being even extra special of the thousands of different storylines with which you could go uh through differently on describing what makes this game special first one of a year the 800th win nearly eclipsing our or tying or eclipsing our um total points we've ever gotten in a game if we hadn't fumbled the ball with our backups in at the end however you'd like to categorize this it's the first win of the season and it's still special so let's talk about it we're going to go through stats we're going to go through all those things but what's on y'all's Minds this is really kind of a bouncing off of thing uh me bouncing off of you guys seeing what's on your mind don't be shy let me know what you're thinking some of you already came in pre-show and let us know a few things that you were thinking before we even uh got live here and again keep in mind that these live streams after games the home games when I'm not in the headquarters of the home studio uh they are they they're set for a certain time it really is just when I can get there tonight luckily we have it earlier than what we had it set as just because I was able to get over here and do that thing I want to thank uh John Moss for becoming a new member on YouTube that's very much appreciated helping keep the lights on here WT checked in a little bit earlier uh and he even points out that on the simulation by the way we do do a college football 25 simulation of every game that's our plan going forward so hopefully we'll have that next one ready for you Monday sometime uh for hurn versus Cal but uh the simulation was pretty much a blowout didn't do it justice to the level to blowout that this was uh tonight at least WT even started off by saying I greatly underestimated the Auburn football team and how far they have come they looked really good tonight yes it was over an a greatly overmatched team for the past we the past we seem to not find a way to dominate I I think that's yes that's a narrative out that's out there and there is some truth with that and I think what you saw tonight was Hugh free kind of wanting to put that to bed leave no doubt we tweeted that out earlier the clip from uh Remember the Titans where um coach not Herman boom but the other one says Le he goes Herman leave no doubt that is essentially what you watched tonight at least that's what I I felt like we watched tonight we looked amazing Corey says but I have to see my Tigers up against a more worthy opponent before I started P putting any stock into where this team is going to go and a couple of other people checking in saying hello on the stream uh tonight um WT also saying I am hoping that tonight was has shown that coach freze knows more than message boards and streams who needs to be Auburn starting quarterback Thorne looked really good yeah we're gonna get into some of those things tonight and I think um this is one of those times where we're very thankful that if you are complaining about something tonight in general you could complain about the the fumbles at the end of the game but it I kind of told you guys this was going to happen that the young guys are going to come in they're gonna make mistakes they're gonna you know turn the ball over things like that which is why I predicted remember my prediction was 52 to 20 because I thought we'd get way out ahead and then give up some points at the end thankfully we didn't 73 to three 70 Point Victory that's just unheard of so we'll talk about that in a little bit more so y'all keep the comments and questions coming um we'll address a few of those as we can uh I think let me start there um obviously all offseason all I had to field every single stream whether it was here Tik Tok whatever uh was about Payton Thorne is he you know the best option out there based on tonight he is and he looks really dang good he looks like a guy that looks poised he looks like a guy that looks um good on his decision-making uh he looks like a leader out there correcting the guys when some of the young wide receivers were out of place tonight I've seen that in some of the practices too so a lot to like out of pton Thorne in this and if you're someone that is just looking to nickp pick things you've really kind of shown your cards on on really what this is all about for you so this is not to say that um pton Thorne is perfect nor will he be perfect the rest of the season but you really couldn't ask for much else from him did exactly what he was supposed to do go out there dominate throw it to these amazing wide receivers out there now all that the second thing I want to talk about let's talk about the opponent Alabama Anum thank you guys for coming to town hope you enjoyed the check don't mean that in a rude way it's just the reality of the situation it's Alabama A&M it's an FCS School uh your history with us was we score 50 points on you and dominated you every single time we dominated and put 20 plus points more on top of those totals that we in some in some instances uh the 55 to nothing and the 52 to1 I think is what it was game two so um the series and the history of this game is not um not good for Alabama A&M ban played good B ban was very entertained to watch but they were never in this game never had a shot never had a chance and you know you always hear from a few fans um from opposing teams even the smaller teams on game weeks and some of them were wanting to say they were going to get exposed us this week you did expose us you exposed Auburn you exposed how good the offense potentially could be so congratulations but anyway all that to be said having a little fun with that we appreciate you guys coming to town and having some fun with us and hope you enjoyed your time in Auburn give A&M's band their props always enjoy their show a lot of pizzazz a lot of action a lot of uh drama even in it and uh it's very entertaining uh this is one of those nights too where I think even when the game became less of a thing an ISS a question as we even got barely into the first quarter everybody was looking forward to that uh band performance because the band had a new performance tonight as well our band and I'll put both of those up I'm actually going to put Alabama A&M's at least that's my plan performance up so I know we're here to talk about football but just wanted to point that out kudos to them uh Thorne looks better because he's actually getting protection and he has someone to throw to now both of these things are true and and I always want to be fair on both sides of the equation whenever we make those statements which are very valid and very true it's also true to say that Thorne could had and should have been better at times but it's you know not as dire as some people wanted make it look by the way let me guys let let me know if the lighting's too much or anything like that I'm still trying to figure this out new setup not new it's just a new lighting setup just working with some things um yeah so we can go into all that but let's not belabor the point like some people like to dog on Payton Thorne uh you guys keep your comments and and questions coming let's look at Stats I know that's what y'all want to talk about for the most part 73 to3 tonight Auburn absolutely dominated the only three points for Alabama and him came in the third quarter they also missed two other field goals I think and um pretty much should have had a touchdown but weren't able to do that their best play of the night arguably was a fluke play where I believe the safety tipped it up and it was kind of like that very close to of a um Ricardo Lewis situation very close to the Jason Smith situation where he gets tip tipped and then the wide receiver Catch catches it and almost goes in for the touch that was very very frustrating at times thank you for the feedback on the lighting I hope hope it works out for the rest of the season if we do this at night uh Corey asks we'll get back to the stats uh when did this 10-minute rule when getting blown out come into play I have no clue I was kind of thrown off by this as well and I'll be honest with you I'm kind of glad it was I think we all were uh I think even if it wasn't a rule Alabama A&M probably and hree would have just said hey man come on hey man let's let's let's call this it's over let's get this let's run and clock this all this kind of stuff uh had no idea that teams could agree to 10 minutes I knew they could agree to to a running clock I didn't know about the 10- minute things maybe that's a a new thing for these types of situations where even a running clock is kind of a little bit uh it can carry on a little bit more than you maybe want it to although I don't know maybe 10 minutes still carried on anyway back to the stats here there uh 28 points for Auburn in the first quarter uh 24 in the second 14 in the third and seven in the fourth so it progressively went down but boy was that a lot of points the Tigers folks eclipsed the majority of people's projections in the first half alone uh 52 points 52 to three going into halftime if I'm doing my math correctly right now um incredible my prediction was 52 to 20 they met my mark for them in terms of points in the first half alone uh one of my family members i s with pointed out that they're on track for 90 plus points the way it was going at the time so that was the scoring uh here is your stats for your quarterbacks tonight you got to see three of them hoped we got we would gotten to see all four but you can understand that they wanted to play Payton as much as they could give Hank some time and then definitely give Holden some time as well since he's been around here the longest 13 for 21 tonight um I I think if you look at completions and attempts it's a little bit misleading in in terms of how effective um he was tonight 322 yards four touchdowns he gets a passer rating of 29 253 uh Payton Thorne was on point tonight Hank Brown three for five for 96 yards two touchdowns and Holden is two for two tonight with 33 yards no touchdowns uh but everybody scored well in what they were given I hate that Holden had his drives messed up because of fumbles and things that were really out of his control I hate that we didn't get to see that here I sit completely having the wrong idea about how this was going to go I thought even with us trying to protect the running backs that we would still lean on that a little bit more and we did not jarquez Hunter tonight is your leading runner but only 53 yards with that amazing touchdown to kick off the game uh running out you know kind of I think he hit off the tackle or inside of the tackle and then cut up into the secondary and then he was gone and dove into the end zone uh pton Thorne gets a run tonight he ran well as well Jeremiah Cobb ran with some ferocity at times you got to see Justin Jones Shan Jackson uh deari alustin as well uh got a touchdown so tons of people got into the ACT tonight running the ball tons of people got into the act with uh passing the ball tons of people got into the ACT receiving this is what y'all wanted y'all were waiting for me to get to this um how many times folks last year two years previous have we had conversations in postgame reaction streams where we were talking about receivers numbering in like the four and the fives not that that's something to in and of itself get up in arms about but we were talking about only four and five receivers getting into the action with each of the with the most getting like 50 yards and everybody else getting like in the tens and the 20s you're really not gonna have a perfective uh passing game if you're doing that it tonight is on Simmons so here's everybody who got one Simmons Lambert Smith uh Thompson cam Coleman Caleb Burton Bryce Kane um Jack Sam Jackson Robert Lewis only with one catch uh raldo Fairweather only with one catch and Jeremiah Cobb got into the mix as well who is your leading receiver tonight it is Malcolm Simmons with three reception 91 yards one touchdown the long of 57 yards after catch 71 right behind him was Lambert Smith who just kind of put everything away very early with two touchdowns he has he probably has he does have the best night with two touchdowns just barely you know less so he is your best receiver tonight but if we're talking about yardage Simmons was the leader tonight uh Perry Thompson caught a bomb uh so that put him up there with two receptions for 82 yards cam Coleman two for 62 and a touchdown so your touchdowns tonight are Simmons Lambert Smith with two Thompson Coleman and Sam Jackson I mean folks this is I I don't know what to make of this I get it's the opponent I get it it's just do is this something we do is this is this possible like is it possible for us to be more known for passing in this game in this game this season it sure as heck looks like it it sure as heck looks like it uh um uh seen Thorn's arm and accuracy I would prefer he not run as much I hear you I do hear you as much as it hurts to for you to hear this I don't think we're going to see very much of the Smashmouth football this season I do think this is a good point Corey I will also counter with with the injury to Brian B the life altering injury to Brian B that drastically changed how they view viewed that room in terms of depth alone and safety nets for injuries and stuff like that um kind of forced our hand to have to utilize and fall back on some of these guys Perry and Coleman is going to be a deadly deadly this year the wide receiver cores is deadly there you go uh I noticed Thorne going to the same receiver until uh they scored um maybe I'm not understanding Corey what's what you're getting at there but yeah man receivers every I mean is there anybody tonight that didn't get in the action that we thought would um Caleb Burton got in there Bryce Kane uh Rob I think the most surprising thing to me is that Robert Lewis wasn't targeted as much now he had one catch and how many targets two Targets that's it um your most targets tonight are Malcolm Simmons and again we're not surprised by that by playing a lot of the guys that are further down the depth chart more as the night goes on um revaldo Fairweather should have had a better night um got past interference for a touchdown pretty much um had one that was a little underthrown for him but it was in his Brad basket and he should have caught it um I I was if there's an area of like not concern or just not 100% pleased with something I would say that I wanted to see more out of Robert Lewis I wanted to see more out of raldo in the same token this is just game one right easy to overreact to things um is it ironic that it was Sabin that advised freeze to go back to play calling as he was the best play caller Au had told him um at the golf game you know um again this this notion about the whole Hughes calling the plays things I think that's still being misunderstood Derek Nicks is unless I I have yet to see it confirmed anywhere that Derrick Nicks is the play caller he was still but being heavily involved in that process as the head coach and the offensive minded head coach um he went to a a receiver for a chunk then went back to the same receiver with the next play for the touchdown gotcha I think I'm following you now what you were saying there anyway so there's your stats a couple other we'll move over to let's do defensive stats we'll come back to team stuff here uh we wonder always who's your leading tackler no shock here jayen McLoud is your leading tackler with five Robert would you now remember folks this is why you should watch the preview shows because we were pretty much on this as a collective I'm Not tooting my own horn here we talked a lot about Robert Woodyard probably getting a good bit of notice in this game meaning playtime but also results he is your SEC well he's tied for second so Robert Woodyard Sylvester Smith JC Hart who's been talked about a lot in Fall Camp gets up there um I'm still learning how to pronounce his name [ __ ] gout Malik blocked into Philip bleedy the transfer also with three tackles and then a bunch of other people got in there let's see sack tonight for Jaylen McLoud for blockton K keldrick Faulk there you go a lot of people wanting to see him step up this year even further so there that's great to see there um amaris Williams with a quarterback Curry just kind of scrolling through some of the defensive stats overall uh yeah Jaylen McLoud had a great night he's your probably your best player tonight one sack two tackles for loss five solo tackles and he leaves the way tonight so a great great night for Jaylen McLoud so I think it's as simple as this in a night where maybe we thought our players of the game were going to come from more from um the backups and stuff like that which they almost did in some areas like a Robert Woodyard or a Malcolm Simmons uh you're talking about the guys that are going to probably be the Stars this year Robert um Kell C fault Kendrick Lambert Keandre Lambert I combined them all Keandre Lambert Smith and then also um Jaylen McLoud thank you and of course Thorne as well Durk and had them boys on point tonight yeah he did he was lot of lot of Ray reviews from players having him as their coach they really really like him you can kind of see why passing game and the running game looked really good tonight I have to give a credit to the o line for that yes it was a lesser team in the past we did not see this against such teams I I think it's a good point WT I do um I I do want to really emphasize that we really shouldn't take much away from the dominance displayed tonight not not out of like criticizing effort or anything like that for the offensive line or the defensive line but it's they just they can't they're not s CC caliber they're not FBS caliber and that's not a shot at them it's just the reality of the situation we're going to know much better next week against Cal a power five opponent what we more so look like uh Simmons playing where's Waldo on the Block punt gave me a laugh tonight that was funny a lot of players just having fun tonight it was a good wh R all the way around uh and kind of what we were wor it take hold it with caution enjoy it enjoy it for what it is tonight but also really think about what is or isn't to play here all right some final stats here 628 yards for Auburn tonight wow wow 451 passing yards 177 rushing yards um five penalties tonight what what else of note um three total sacks gez I mean just great great stats all the way around wasn't it nice folks wasn't it nice to have a game where Auburn is supposed to win and immediately immediately take control put your foot down on the pedal and don't stop accelerate accelerate accelerate accelerate do not let up leave no doubt that is the theme tonight for me that's the phrase tonight for me leave no doubt uh Thorne will have over 2K in passing yards this year here this may be a little bit of hyperbole I don't know maybe but um we I was talking about this tonight with the people I was sitting with um he it felt like this was a makeup for all of last year tonight and maybe in some ways they kind of view it as as that but let's look you know Thorn tonight thr us for 322 yards let's assume that he can probably get close to the 300 mark every single um game if we're gonna have this Dynamic of a passing attack again first game against this type of opponent but if you can 10 games in you're if I'm doing my math correctly and I believe that I am you're at 3,000 yards he will have 2K John you're right is there anything more you can ask for I mean really there's not much there's not much all right so we've gone through the stats we talked about some of the big storylines please please please if there's something here for those of you watching live that we have
