[Applause] what's going on people welcome to the opposition preview I'm joined by Charlie here to look ahead to the game on the weekend as we travel to Stanford bridge for our third Premier League game can we finally get a result and make sure to check out Charlie's channel the link will be in the description down below Charlie welcome back to the Channel with Chelsea is nonstop from the outside looking in there's all always always something going on whether a play is coming in whether a play is leaving I know we're pre-recording this before the conference League game so there might be a few more transfers by the time this is posted but as a Chelsea fan even going into the season I know we played two games already how has it been how are you feeling going into this game yeah mate it's been kind of mad you know obviously expected this summer to be maybe a little bit quieter than than than previous ones but yeah okay we might not have spent as much money and as biger transfer fees as in previous windows but still a lot of businesses have been done I think we've made 12 signings there's maybe room for one one more before the deadline on Friday and it could be a big one it could be an Oshman could be an Ivan Tony um you know there's exciting possibilities um yeah the Summer's been mad you know it doesn't feel like portino was replaced this Summer that feels like a lifetime ago now mesa's in uh we've had a couple we've had three games I actually don't think we've played particularly badly in any of those games uh and we got a much needed win against wolves at the weekend which we really really needed even though it was only the second game we needed to you know get the three points on the board as quickly as possible and it's a ground we hadn't won at since 2019 so it's a bit of a bogy ground for us place that we find difficult to go to so that was a big confidence boost and then yeah as you said we got the game against the second leg on Thursday night against servette we're two up so you'd imagine there'll be a few changes we should be able to rest a number of players before the game on Sunday so yeah look it's exciting times to be a fan whether for good or for bad there's always stuff going on there's always things to discuss and I I kind of feel optimistic about this season obviously there'll be perhaps a lot of bearing on these last few days on whether a big name Striker comes in or not but I think we've got the quality and the ability to finish in the top four but the big question is can we find that level of consistency across the season to do it and that's been a problem for the last couple of Seasons that we do need to address yeah when you're looking at your transfers and players coming in as you mentioned 12 so far we don't know the final number of course that could easily change as the deadline day is approaching as a Chelsea fan from that what I it would be nice to get your perspective from the outside looking in there's there's a lot of business and we're hearing talks about maybe some players are training by themselves there's a separate group away from the first team group how do you find all of that situation and is it as bad as the media put it out to be uh I I definitely don't think it's as bad as what's being made out it very much feels like it's kind of Open Season for everyone to pile pile in on Chelsea sort of an easy target and look I can understand that to to a certain extent but I think within the club within the fan base um that there's a lot sort of a lot more relaxed about about the situation look I for what it's worth I don't agree with any players being treated how some of the players have been treated you know the likes of Sterling um Trevor Chala uh the Conor Gallagher situation I don't care who you are look even if I think that you know Sterling should go chilwell should go I don't necessarily agree with with how these players have been treated you know being banished to train away from the the squad not allowed to use the first team facilities and things like that I think it's a little bit harsh um these are human beings at the end of the day and look whilst they're footballing decisions and I don't disagree or I disagree the Chala one but in terms of Sterling chill I don't disagree with it on a football level but on a human level you've got you've got to feel for these guys it's not it's not the nicest situation to find yourself in but I think we got to realize that this is not a new thing in football if someone's Surplus to requirements they're very often they don't train with the first team um that's not a new thing we've seen it at at countless clubs uh you know we even seen it at man united jayen Sancho situation where he had the big falling out last season the guy couldn't even have lunch in the buddy in in The Canteen at United and so I feel like Chelsea are an easy target this is something that's gone on for uh a long time in football and if it's probably something that maybe needs to be looked into and maybe needs to be changed what I would say of Chelsea though is I do feel like players are almost treated like kind of tra in cards rather than human beings under this ownership at this point in time there's a high volume of players coming in there's a high volume of players going out and there's very much this sort of mentality where the good ones will stay and it will work the others will just be are just bought to be flipped for a profit and I get football as a business it's a business model but at the same time I feel like the club aren't the best at treating players with the respect that they deserve but this is what but what what to make clear is that I think people are piling in on on Chelsea it's not a Chelsea thing it just happens to be highlighted at the this this is a football issue yeah yeah it is a football issue and there are you know rule changes that's already being implemented such as a contract length Etc because I mean I think it was last year where you know I think it Chelsea that was handing out seven years six year and then afterwards I think FIFA um try to try to stop that approach but yeah I mean it is a business nowadays as much as we love our football clubs is a business but I'm surprised from a palace fan um perspective on Chelsea because that is the approach that we kind of do of course we're not buying 12 or 13 players but buying young players trying to develop them and hopefully sell them on for higher value for a club like Chelsea you would associate them buying the readymade quality players which you already have in your squad as well but it's kind of confusing how you know both elements are happening at the same time I didn't really I haven't seen any other top clubs do that approach no no M it's not it's it's definitely a new approach um it's something very different to what we've been used to to obviously under the previous regime with Abramovic you know we were always signing kind of big name players proven players ready to go um and now there's been a huge shift we're looking I think we're looking to become more sustainable as a football club um and it's not just Chelsea that are doing this a lot of clubs now are signing younger ass signing younger players um I'm not saying there's not a market for The Proven more established player there absolutely is and you need a you need a blend of both in my opinion there's probably a reason why no one's taken the approach that Chelsea have had taken or to the extreme that Chelsea have taken it to is because perhaps it doesn't work or you've got to wait sort of two three four years to really see what kind of an impact it's had but I whilst I I I welcome sort of a slight shift in the transfer policy because I think towards the last few years of the Roman era our recruitment was poor and we made a lot of expensive mistakes um that like we've almost gone from one extreme to the other I would prefer maybe a little bit more balanc one or two experience heads sort of sprinkled in in in amongst The Talented youngsters we've got but then having said that you know people can say what they want about the recruitment policy not all these players will work out we've sign some good players you know there are some good players there I think Nicholas Jackson looks like a great buy at 30 30 odd million quid obviously Cole Palmer Malo Gusto Romeo lavier I think is going to be a brilliant a brilliant player for us so whilst there's a few that maybe don't make sense and a few that you think oh Jesus while we doing that there are there is plenty of quality there so I can't be too critical on the on the on the transfer policy because there's nothing worse than owners not showing ambition and not being prepared to put their hand in their pocket uh what you can probably say is that maybe some of it's a little bit misguided and some of it's a bit like do we really know what we're doing here but I'd much rather have that have that issue than have an issue where the ownership just aren't prepared to invest yeah yeah yeah that's the positive that's the positive out of it like they are prepared to invest they are showing that and I guess only time will tell if it work out or not because it's not like you know you're buying these players this season and then going to flip them on in the same summer it will take a few seasons to see you know how this plan is going to go ahead and whether it will work or not but you've also changed your managers not the transfers that you brought in Enzo moresa who joined from Leicester city he had a good season there um what's your early thoughts on him change of style of football I've noticed that as well which is very good to see for example at man united with ten hog it's still hard to see what they're trying to do after fre season so early dos he's he seems a bit you know not scared to talk about the players and their performances as well he's not shy away from that shying away from you know the questions asked to him but as a Chelsea fan what have you made of his star yeah do you know what I actually think given all given the circumstances surrounding everything I'm actually quite impressed with with with how he's been it's really refreshing to have a manager that just says things how they are that it's just honest doesn't give like you know guarded answers just says it how it is it it makes a massive massive difference and I think you know he's not saying anything that he probably hasn't told the players in in private and look I I'm impressed with with how he's done so far I think after three the three games that we've had I don't think many Chelsea fans can complain at where we're at I don't think anyone expected us to beat City and we've beaten serve and we've beaten wolves so I think we're roughly where we should be after three games um it's going to take time it's a completely different way of playing it's a lot more possession heavy orientated style of football and it's players are being asked to play in a way that a lot of these guys haven't played before in their career so it's going to take time it's going to take you know matches for us to for them to adjust to the situation but there are early signs that the players are are getting used to things you can see early signs of what moresa is looking to do there's been some you know there's been some great buildup play from the back um there's been some really strong attacking performances and just like last season We are continuing to create a number of opportunities and we will score goals defensively I worry about us a little bit still from an organ organizational standpoint that there's there's issues there I think we can easily be got out from set pieces still um and you always worry a little bit about whether there's an individual mistake in in our Defenders because there is and you're almost at points kind of waiting for that to happen but as far as things go you know there's a clear style of play there's a clear identity starting to form and I think we can be excited for the season ahead of course there's a long way to go uh there'll be tougher tests than than what we've had so far but all in all I think after three games and having seen the preseason considering what he came into I actually think he's done reasonably well yeah yes yes I have to I have to admit he has he has done reasonably well and that Wolves game the second half especially you lot were all G's blazing I mean the goals that you scored mad after what he said about wolver Hampton just going there scoring a hatrick it was just yeah you couldn't make it up but um but just your thoughts on uh Palace as a Chelsea fan of course I'm not expecting you to watch Palace week and week out and know all of our business but from the outside looking in what have you made of Palace to start of this season Oliver glasner yeah mate do you know what I was really when when Glo replaced hodon last uh sort of second half of last season he had a brilliant impact I was really impressed with what he was doing he was playing some fantastic football he got obviously UL Lads into a top 10 finish which seemed an impossibility when when he took over playing some brilliant football some really exciting players I know obviously Michael Alis is gone uh which is a big blow but I think it's something that you were prepared for and obviously expected him to move on I feel at this late stage in the window I my impression looking in at Palace is this is a big missed opportunity so far to back the manager and allow him to push on and maybe make a surprise push for sort of a top eight top nine kind of finish I look at the business and there's some good business there but I feel like he could have been backed a little bit more um obviously Kamar is coming on a free I don't know an awful lot about him I know glad has obviously uh previous experience of working with him before uh and obviously managers like to work kind of tend to go with players they've worked with already um from a defensive standpoint I look at it and I think okay we're a couple days from the end of the window why is this Mar gy situation not been resolved are you really going to sell both your first choice Center back pairing with a couple days left in the window to to try and replace it uh that from a planning standpoint I don't really I don't really get uh I think there's good players at Palace I think there's a good thing there my worry from the outside looking in from my limited understanding would be that as I was saying this kind of feels like a missed opportunity it feels like Palace could have really made a bit of a statement in this transfer window and backed glasner and given him the tools to really push on and have a strong a stronger at the Premier League and you know you've had a difficult start a couple of defeats in your first two games um if I was GL I'd maybe be feeling a little bit annoyed that I've not been act a bit more in the market yeah yeah well look the funny thing is we don't know what will happen by the time this is released it might be that you know we sign two or three more players or it might even be worse we might sell gay here and not sign a replacement so it's hard to say but I agree with you it has been um frustrating I think that's the right word to use um this window however Anda seems like it's going to be um well he pretty much done deal medical sorted um as we're talking right now lra from wolburg um who actually played for GL number four he seems like he's coming in 24 years old pacy Defender um as Anderson's replacement so there's Works been done behind the scenes but of course it's it's hard to say right now whether it'll be a six out of 10 or 7 out of 10 or 5 out of 10 four out of 10 because there's still outgoings expected with potentially Sam Johnson going we'll see who his replacement is so yeah it is also busy in pales side of things but as I've said a lot could change a lot could change for the worst for the better only time will tell but in terms of some of the players that you mentioned already and you brought you brought in a few players as well in this window who is the one player that you have to say that Palace have to stop is it Palmer is it mad after his performance against um Wolves yeah bro like Palmer's the obvious one like I know everyone kind of is a bit more aware of him now but he's still able to do like special things on the football pitch I mean obviously a goal and three assists on the weekend against wolves um hopefully can continue to push on he's the obvious one to look out for as you say meow you know having not started either of the first two games by the way um is now got four goals in his last two uh he's he's a threat he's dangerous it looks like he's thriving in this moresa system and he looks like he's added some end products to his game which is which is a big big plus um other players to look out for I'd say Obviously Christopher and kunu is a quality operator perhaps he've not seen the best of him yet so far at this early point but he's a big threat the likes of Pedro Netto if he starts Felix on the bench potentially there's so much attacking talent that you know any anyone's got to be wary because if it clicks we have got the ability to score three four five goals um so I I'd say mainly the attacking players are the ones to look out for I probably go Palmer in kungu and and and Pedro Netto because I think those are probably the ones that are are most likely to start and maybe along with Mada as well so we got we got players to cause you problems but again can we be clinical in front of go will we have our shooting boots on and can we keep things tight at the other end but yeah we've got the quality to to hurt any opposition I feel yeah you got depth you got very good depth even looking at your bench on the weekend um against wolves I think the the depth is there and and I mean maybe some people are sleeping on the depth that Chelsea have at a football club you got Pedro Netto for example coming off the bench uh J Felix coming off the bench um then of course you got M starting this game you got Cole Palmer and you listed you know some of the players there maybe you might need another Striker to improve the depth up front in terms of the quality um but yeah like you got the play 100% um it's just about now closing this window hopefully in a positive outlet for you lot and then settling in the plays and just seeing what masasa is working with um at at the end of the window um going into the international break but yeah I think I think you got a lot to be optimistic about for this season um in terms of strengths and weaknesses you haven't mentioned the the defense quite a few times is there any potential areas that Palace should be targeting to potentially exploit or is it just a defense in itself why is a defense a question mark right now I just think from an organ organizational standpoint particularly the center back pairing it's a little bit hit and miss I think you can definitely take advantage of us from set pieces I don't know if Palace are particularly good at set pieces or not but I think Chelsea can be got out from set pieces we're still we still look at times quite easy easy to play through particularly in the middle of the park and if you're good on the transitions we have struggled on occasion to defend the transition as well so I'd say if you can exploit us from you know set pieces or exploit the middle of the park we have shown in in the first few games that teams can play through Us in the middle of the park quite easily on occasion so th those for me would be the main areas where I think Palace can can definitely have some success if you look to Target us on Transitions and and try and take advantage of set pieces yeah yeah I think I think um for us as well on the counter we've we've kind of struggled to the start of the Season even against Norwich I know we didn't consider goal but um it seems like you know teams that are sitting back and then trying to hit us on the counter we we benefit well they benefit from from that style of play but however I don't expect cheles to sit back I think there'll be you know spaces in behind I think we've dealt well with you know teams pressing us and trying to play around them so that in fact kind of Suits our style of play it's it's being the team such as West Ham well norish we've be them 4-0 but teams now starting to sit back more and say come at us and try to get ball off us and hit hit us on a counter Counterattack that's where we've struggled but Charlie let's get your score predictions I'm going to go for one all it's going to be very hard I'm trying to hopefully good ENT the window we got that morale Boost from the Norwich win especially with the four goals e scored Mata two goals kamada as well on the score sheet so the attacking line finally were clicking especially after the second half so I feel like we can cause a potential upset but for you at home surely you have to be back in your boys yeah I've got to be backing us look it's going to be a difficult game I don't think we can look too much into palace losing the opening two games this will be tough you've got players that can hurt us and we're going to have to be on it but I I do think we've got the quality and I think we're going to have enough about us I don't think it's going to be like a thrashing or anything like that I I think we can get it I'm going to go for a narrow 2-1 win I do think ulot will score but I think we've got the the fire power and the quality to bag a couple of goals I'll go for a 2-1 win yeah yeah as you mentioned there's there's great attackers there but look people let us know your score predictions in the comment section down below if you have enjoyed it please hit the like button and subscribe and most importantly make sure to check out Charlie's channel the link will be in the description down below uh to not miss out on future great Chelsea videos and of course he'll probably have a preview out for this game as well um so look um that's it from us thank you to Charlie thank you to all of you watching
