Crystal Palace vs Norwich | How Seriously Should We Take The Carabao Cup | Match Preview

[Applause] what's going on people welcome to the match preview quick turnar around for Palace as we Face Norwich in the carobell cup the cup competition should we be taking it seriously we'll be going into that as well as lineup a bit of transfer talk as well as always make sure to get involved in the comment sections down below and hit the like button and subscribe if you do enjoy the content I'm joined by hambo T and Patrick here to discuss the very quick game it's a quick turnaround jents um from the West Ham game with with two defeats now in the bank not great not a great start start off with you hambo how important is this game for Palace very I mean I'm look I it's such a quick turnaround I am not over losing to West Ham and by any stretch imagination I'm angrier today than I was yesterday and know yeah um thinking about but um look really good opportunity isn't it I mean Norwich haven't started their season particularly well um one defeat two draws I think in the league um and they just lost Jonathan row um to to Marseilles on loone um so he's one of their strongest players so I think you know it's a good time to kind of to play a team like that I mean you you see them like a team like that sometimes as a bit of a banana skin if they're they're playing well but they don't they seem to be struggling for a bit of form at the start of the year so you got to think you know we want we want to overpower them we want to give some of the Fringe players a bit of a go um but we've got to get a win on the board you know momentum is so important we've started the season without it and and this is a great opportunity for us yeah Patrick you you spoke about how important the Cup competitions are I've mentioned it a few times especially under viea where even though you know you loved them to to bits but you you were still angry and disappointed with you know like the carabar cup game against Newcastle for example where we could have took it a bit seriously for you I'm looking at our League form so far don't you think it's a is a good step of course you would I know you would love a cup run but don't you think this is a good step to actually build a bit of momentum because how I'm looking at the game is you know we got Norwich if we can beat Norwich and then end the window good that momentum can carry on that morale boost can carry on to the Chelsea game I'm looking at the bigger picture because of the window closing on Friday with the norch game being on Tuesday it's important to have a good cup run but also it's you know it's also important to have the squads believe in again because right now our head seem a bit down yeah there's no doubt about that I I I think um though the results have been poor I don't think either performance was has been poor I think it's we've been unlucky and just not clinical life in front of goal having said that I'm I'm all for taking this game 100% seriously against Norwich I don't want to use The Fringe players except the subs I think we should go with the same lineup or close to the lineup that we've been using in our first two matches um a May a tweak I would obviously I'd put Comm back at the 10 and I'd put um Dori in Midfield but I don't think the Fringe players if you're talking about let's say Jeffrey schlop or even a Hamer or Ward or Klein I don't think they should play actually one other change I actually would change the goalkeeper too I would definitely put Sam Johnson in goal um again not that Henderson's had poor poor games but I just think that I want to see something different but just going back to your point yeah without a doubt I want to see a a this cup taken seriously norwi is hambo mentioned have not gone for a great start they've lost key players they've got a brand new manager young manager uh they probably won't be going all out because again their their main focus will probably be if not motion playoffs at least you know doing well in the uh in the division so no doubt about it I definitely think that um a good cup R is important and it starts against Norwich yeah t he didn't agree with what you were saying in fact he left because you hurt him so you hurt him so much um said so T wants fully rot squ I guess B no I don't know what just happen CER and it froze up um no no I I I fully believe that um the win winning builds momentum you know regardless of whether it's a win in the cup a winning the league um so it needs to be especially with the start that we've had needs to be taken um with the utmost of importance so you need to feeli an extremely strong team um we need to make sure that we we have a a really good tactical understanding um and like very much agree with Patrick we need to um however probably have some changes in that team um I I I would be fine with with uh making that move for for for kamada going to uh the 10 rather than the eight um and I'd be fine with the rotation that that goalkeeper as well but uh the bottom line has to be that we take it seriously and we we try to go out and get it done I agree I agree we do have to take it seriously um because I do want a cup run um and also when you look at the squad hambo do you think we're in a position to make that many changes anyways I mean you look at the bench against West Ham we had s slap kamada Ward holding dor ahamad I would like to see dor come into the Midfield um to build up on Fitness because I need theore ready ASAP as we saw it yesterday for me kamada um he shouldn't be playing in Midfield especially whilst adjusting to the lead because defensively I think he's not um at it right now um even though he's got massive you know attacking ability I'm not writing him off by any means um I think the Midfield has come a bit too soon for him so you know dor there's CL there there's holding so I mean I have mentioned a few play I did say can we make that many changes but I did mention a few players that could potentially come in yeah what do you think would do yeah know we look we we have to we have to look at those Fringe players and but you also have to consider you know Mark Gay um e wson and Mata that spine I've talked about for the last couple of weeks needing to play themselves back into form and missing out on preseason so we've got to be very very focused on what's best for us you do want to give opportunities to players you know I I'm frankly you know whether Jeff schlop starts or not I'm not so much bothered about but I think sa definitely I think needs needs a look in and you do want to get some minutes in the legs of you know potentially the likes of Klein I think Ward um and definitely agree with you and Chik theur and you know the Forgotten man Hamer as well he's you know we've got to do something with him otherwise what's the point you know he's he's 22 now I think he's been with us you season and a half two two seasons I think yet but he's been with us a long while and he's never done anything and we keep we keep talking about whenever we talk about who's going to play We no one ever mentions him and frankly with good reason because he hasn't really he had a long time under hodon where he didn't really have an opportunity um and I don't know if that lost momentum or he's just never really been able to get up to the PACE and strength required of the Premier League but there's a player in there somewhere you know we didn't sign him for nothing you know and and he was decent in Germany so so I think it's an opportunity to try him and and stop sticking him at right back or you know out wide stick him in the center and Midfield give him a a role either as the kind of the the eight in there if you like or try him as one of the number 10 if you really have to but just give him a role in the middle somewhere as you mentioned um you know Hamad who can get opportunities and there's a few others but for me I would like us to go as strong as possible of course there's going to be one two rotations for example S I would like s to start in this game to see what he can do I thought he was very good coming off the bench I wouldn't be against dropping Edward in this game um even though it's against Norwich because I mean he's there's too big maybe I'm focused on him too much and maybe he's becoming the scapegoat but for me he's made I don't know the the brenford game he made a massive error by being offside that is for me criminal that offside decision right and then yesterday's game I just don't think he was at it and I don't understand why we would reward him with another start even though so gets nage um so for me kamada does does come in s probably if meta wants the rest can go up front Hamed can play as as a 10 as well there's opportunities there so so yeah you go strong you you you aim to win this game but I wanted to ask you lot I know Patrick wants a good cup run but hambo um and and T how important is the cup to you apart from this game would you be happy let's say with a 12th finish in the league if it meant that we went to the finals or the caraba cup or won it which which would be massive of course but what exactly where where's your head at with with with the Cup competitions and your importance versus the league I mean I oh go that was literally saying T you go first so I I mean I want us to compete I want us to to to to really go for it I mean um yeah I mean if you get a Cup Final in 12th Place I mean I I don't mind that tradeoff because that cup final could end up meaning that we end up finding our way to Europe too you you win one match you know so um I think it's important for us man um and it's it's a way for us to uh to get some silverware that that that uh that Crystal Palace has never had before so from the state side C but yeah yeah I mean you know any data systems everybody forgets it yeah you're so young seriously so he so so young we beat Everton 4-1 you know yeah they had Robert warer on the day can you imagine it yeah pronoun it anyway Z right scored two goals I mean thas got another one it reminds me of like Microsoft 98 if feel was like yes it's that it's that vintage yeah yeah so it was good stuff um look I got to say this like with the with the League Cup it doesn't it doesn't have the same appeal for me until you start getting in like once you hit the quarterfinals then it becomes okay this is an opportunity up until that point I see the League Cup as an opportunity for Fringe players to get games and us to use it selfishly to build momentum in the squad or get minutes in legs you know there are players I'd like to see you know in the development Squad get opportunity you think about I mean last year Marsh was superb and got injured but I you know getting people like him and and maybe I'm not sure uh my brain G maybe even Jesse Derry somebody like that yeah and um and of course Franco um as well you know who's been in around the first team squad given those people maybe some actual minutes for first team football but you know I I think think right now if if you offered me the opportunity to to take the 12th Place finish and The League Cup I I'd bite your hand off because you we have the patience for that because as you mentioned there are some fans like you where no no no Patrick the reason why I'm asking that it's because let's say I don't know if we're struggling in the next few Premier League games and we beating Norwich do you think the fans will be like oh well you know we're in the third round of the carabar cup like do you think do you think the fans I don't think the carabar cup is is viewed that's that high no it's not what you said though you gave us an end of season scenario of 12 and League Cup Final are you who there's not a pal F on this planet wouldn't take that a chance to win a cup and be 12 because 12 is no win the relegation no no the question really it it flabbergast to me because I don't understand what you're saying how could you not take as a palace fan 12th and a League Cup Final possibly winning a cup winning that cup I don't understand the question anybody listening who said they wouldn't do that is not a palace fan they just not they can't be we're Crystal Palace of course we take that you see what short term 1971 let's let's say those strugles along the way let's say those struggles along the way then I mean then that is Crystal Palace that's Crystal Palace so that's just fine because remember that run U it was I mean the Le form was absolutely Dreadful it was absolutely Dreadful um but I guess I guess what hambo said that he wants to see French plays I with me I would I'll take it as seriously as possible I wouldn't want to see French players um really play in this game I don't think we're in a position maybe if we won one of our two games H actually let me ask you this question if you won one of our two games would you still like to see potentially Fringe I still I still think the approach I still think the approach should be the same and I think that you know the real question in terms of how strong a team do you put out is how strong a team do you think you need to beat Norwich you know you don't want to take stupid risks you don't want to put out an entire Reserve team um and you know just to give everybody minutes and all I'm not I'm definitely not advocating that and I I would 100% agree with the kind of the the qu the line of questioning because you know we are going to need a strong team to beat them and we are going to need to to get more minutes and more you know opportunity of playing together for for our you know our main players you know you talk we're talking about Kamar look we're doing that thing everybody does when you get new players in you want them to to hit the ground running and you tell yourself in the run up to it yeah he'll probably need three four weeks to settle in get used to how we play and then come the match you're like why is this guy so useless why can't like kamada why can't he do exactly what I want him to do exactly what eliso did your brain does this but the reality is I don't expect him to do anything like what he's capable of until he's had you know five maybe even 10 games at Premier League level and that's the realism but the realism doesn't come into play when you're watching a match and it definitely doesn't come into play in the match reaction shows either because you're fed up at that point if you haven't won the game so I I think your point is a good one D in the fact that we need there is a definite real consideration that has to go into how how weak or how much weaker can we make this team uh and still kind of almost guarantee be in Norwich and you can't guarantee anything we could put a full put the same team out that played against brenford or or West Ham and we could still lose that game because football can be like that meltdown I don't I literally don't even want to think about a meltdown if we lost against Norwich that's that's that's the most worrying thing about the whole situation um and that is why I can't do no penal shootouts I know look it's early in the season we're still trying to figure out one or two things but a lot of fans are frustrated andless and I mean there's only so much we can talk about the cup BR nor let's see how we do in the second round but I think it's a good you know point to touch on the transfers as well is this a chance for some of these players to prove themselves to Oliver glasner um as well as to the board like does this give us a bit more of an indication potentially if if he does rotate the rotate the side of what do we need to do in the last few days um do we do we take that that position with this Patrick or not for me not at all um it's very clear from what glasner said and what you kind of hear and read is that we we looking to add two or three players and those players will be a left back sorry a left wing back a center half obviously and possibly a number 10 preferably for me a left footy but I just a number 10 and I think we get two of those the we'll be fine I don't think GL wants to add any more than that I don't think it would it would at all um mean any one of the current Squad leaves as H mentioned before possibly aham might then leave because he might get kind of kind of squeezed out but I don't see how that would really affect him bringing in those three positions but I don't see anybody doing anything on Tuesday that would change our look at looking at transfers borrowing like I said a major injury to someone let's say like I said mat was be injured or God forbid gayi was injured I just think those three positions what we're going to be focusing on and that's what we'll try and do so I don't really see this being a chance for anybody which is why again knowing GL as I know him in that short time that I've kind of seen him in you're going to he's going to take this cup very seriously there's no reason not to you're right about the Meltdown you're right about building momentum as T mentioned so there's no reason why I can't see him going 100% with the best team he can put out there and do the best he can and they're moving on after that towards Chelsea yeah I I I don't think that the squad is far off reaching his potential I was looking at the bench yesterday well today just to digest like who we've got there what do we need to do and the conclusion that I came to is well when France is um is fit then he takes in Jeffrey schlop spot there Hughes takes um takes aam spot um well it's ideally dor would eventually you know start so lman H will be on the bench once bring in a center back riia should replace Joe Ward which add strength to that bench add another 10 and that's pretty much it and I'll be honest once once we reach that full Squad I would be so curious to see what happens with Edward so C because there's only nine players that could be on on the bench and I trying to work out myself and unless he drops maybe a Defender such as like kle and he goes with Riad and holding or Klein and and Riad what you know just two Defenders rather than three someone's going to miss out on attack if we get another number 10 I'm I'm just curious um T what you made of you know just in general just the bench even even from yesterday and also going into um this game because I don't think we're far up or we do need to trenen yeah I mean the the bench was definitely pretty weak um in our last match um though I think the subs could have done been done a little bit differently but I do agree with you that um we're not far off I don't think we're far off at all um and I think that's why there's uh just that that that uh unrelenting hope and optimism that you can that we can get uh those those couple few moves uh done in the window to to add to what we have um because we stand to have uh a pretty pretty solid bench if if we do things the right way um so I I mean I would I would hope that uh that that does happen and then you you you do brag a good question of who then is uh the the people or the person that we don't see uh end up on that bench because of a numbers game because you know you didn't see Joe Ward on the Ben against Springford you know what I mean um you also didn't see uh Hamed I believe it was you know comparatively to uh this last match where H did make the bench so um and I think that's more of a sign of um the quality in the squad more than anything else because what we're talking about right now um is is more of a rarity for our team but for a lot of other teams it's it's always a topic of discussion just because you have more than you know a certain amount of guys that are good enough to to make the bench so choices have to be made so yeah yeah in terms of in terms of this game uh Patrick would he want to have any youth players potentially as an option um or would you just keep everyone as it is so let's say you know if I'll be shocked by let's say if e ain't starting he should be on a bench or Mata ain't starting he should be on the bench or would you like to see him mix of experience SL youth plays no for this game I said we have to win this game I'm not trying to be on the bench you still would you still on the bench you just went through you just went through the fact that guys like Ward and ham have made the bench in the first couple of games I haven't why would you want to change it no I think the bench would the bench should be basically if Hugh is not sick um you put him back for example as a left wing back option he he's been mentioned we did not include him on the bench ahead of someone like maybe kle a I guess that's possible the thing is I've been kind of watching and paying attention to the 21 game the first game was cancelled they won this game like seven to two and I think he played that left wing back the game wasn't televised so I'm not sure how much experience he's actually gained playing I think they were trying to get him out on loan and put him back as like a number 10 which is what he' been playing um most of his career so I don't know that makes that kind of makes sense but here's my thing going back to your point about the bench I think the bench worked itself out because of during the course of the Season you have injuries like yes who knew he was going to be was going to be ill that kind of worked it so far I'm not really worried about the bench having certain players not playing but your point about the youth players on the bench for this match possibly um but I I'm just I'm just thinking again in in my head we have to win this match so you taking it seriously man you like Patrick yeah the old Patrick was like yeah put kids on the bench blah blah blah but no we have to win this match if we had gotten a point out of the first few matches I'm I'm more to experimenting but I know want to take the cup seriously I just can't see if put go on the bench I won't be bothered by it don't get me wrong but as far as the starting lineup I need to see a strong line possibly have with minor tweaks in the line you know because again we don't beat Norwich on on on Tuesday gez Lise I don't know what to say I call it a day call it a day if we lose against norwi brenford and West time you know that's not put down on norwi by the way that's not put down I'm just saying for us I'm not trying to put down I don't think nor fans are listening they probably aren't but I'm not putting down nor I'm just saying we don't be nor on Tuesday I'm yeah I'm talking about us like from our perspective like the expectation is we have to win that game and the fact that we haven't won the first few games it adds even to that pressure but as I've said uh we spoke about the Lup we spoke a bit about transfers for me you you you might start dor if hopefully if he's fit because it was confusing him not coming off the bench s and by the way my changes I would make I'm worried that he might start cin ahead of mun hopefully he doesn't do that um but my my changes in a way still can improve the side because you know I would still start start S over Edward against Chelsea or I'll start Dore over LMA in Midfield so like I'm still going with a strong lineup like I'm not really changing much things but let's talk about score prediction now this should be interesting I'm not going to predict the 2-1 because I think that score prediction is cursed I've done that two weeks in a row and we've ended up losing both games so I'm never predicting that and someone's actually you know funny enough someone else um I'm talking to um they did you know I I speak to them about Palace Etc and they were like well you always predict a two1 that's why I knew that he was going to predict 21 and you always end up losing I was like hold up wait a minute let me change that out so I'm G to go for a three nil Palace convincing win convincing what's wrong with Patrick that I was say the same thing I swear I say was it okay I thought I thought you said I'm I'm being a bit too optimistic I think we've created chances this is a key part we have created chances in the past few games even in the first half against West Ham we created chances we just couldn't finish him in this game I'm expecting us to find our shooting boots and finally get to score goals because it's not like we haven't being in good opportunities so 3-0 Palace I think we'll create chances I think it'll be a bit too much for Norwich and we'll end the we'll end the window um strong as well and then look forward to the Chelsea game with with more optimism but for you Hamber so like like head says Nery one nil Palace but I'm gonna say this I'm gonna say this if we if we start the game on the front foot and we score early we'll do we'll do them four or five I know I'm convinced of that if we if we s if we open the we'll open the floodgates if we score early but I I honestly think you know we'll we'll see a a little bit more more of the same in terms of Domina in The Possession for for spells and just struggling to finish and but I think we'll get I think we'll get one and I think I think that's that's what it'll be it'll be a one nil one nil one nil look we'll take the win we'll take the clean sheet as well um at this point um you Patrick you was going to say preno sorry about that but that's live that's all right yeah it is um no I'm thinking back to like when um Wayne Moy came in as Derby manager we lost in the FA Cup to Derby and I want to be negative but h I have a lot was that Vieira Vie Hudson one of the one of the two I just way Roy then it was then it was Hudson then I mean it was typical it was at home it was a home game f cup like third round in he played yeah it was a game of sellers po pick up you well well while while one you one of you guys Google it while while I'm talking but um I just have a lot of faith in glas as a manager and I wanted to go three but I'm very confident that this is this is I'm not saying this why season started because I don't think we're beating Chelsea by the way spoiler alert for the Chelsea we never beat Chelsea not be that game but I think we'll beat beat comfortably beat um nor about I think I'm gonna go 4-0 my three nil that just shows how confident you are I said 3 nil you said all right I'm not going to say 3-0 I was just wondering if we're going to go more 2N or 4-0 and you're confident man you're confident about this game and and you should be you should be uh T do do Caravan matches go to penalties or do they yeah it does it does right away right away no extra time yeah time I've been very optimistic in my two my first two prediction so I'll be cautiously optimistic with this one I'll say I'll say one-1 and Palace winning penalties I don't know if my heart yeah I don't know I got another Palace penalties especially against Norwich because I know like in the back of my mind then I'm thinking if we lose his penalties Oh my days I need to turn off my phone that' be crazy um but yeah could go penalty I got it real quick it was yeah one nil Chris Martin ex Pat player scored and of course Luka got a red card so yeah you don't remember January 5th 2020 one they described Rooney as playing quarterback didn't they exactly cu the manager was Phil actually Philip Kaku was the manager for Derby on the day yeah because he left shortly afterwards I you said I thought you said Wayne Rooney as the manager I think I play managers I thought play maner player coach yeah player coach yeah it was yeah well here we are J here we are we've we've got a massive game coming up we've all predicted wins some by penalties some 4-0 3 n 1 nil just shows the state of the palace fan base right now everyone just all over the place in terms of confidence optimism but as I've said this is a massive week for us especially with the Norwich game with the transfer window but we must with all due respect we must beat Norwich after our last two games there's I mean we create chances we just have to finish them off and hopefully be a bit more solid defensively let us know your score predictions and thoughts ahead of
