Christian mcaffrey how much of the game plan is going to change now the good news is Jordan May track record nobody gets more out of an undrafted running back than he does kle Shanahan about a half hour ago and he said this morning when mcaffrey was doing some for their star but he also added it was an incredibly difficult decision where we want to go you know we're not worried about the future we're worried about the present that's all we're focused on what you expecting to see from him I expect him to be his great self that he's always been you know that's AAR thank you Fred good luck tonight Jo at Buffalo well it's Moody on one side of the 50 it's the other players set up on the other side of the 50 and then back in the return area is Xavier Gibson and Isaiah Davis and that Landing Zone from the 20 to goal line you probably know the story by now if you've been watching football this weekend that's where Moody is trying to hit it or that and out to the 30 will come when we talked to K Shanahan about that specifically he said you know if the average starting field position last year was the 26 and now it's the 30 tossed a hall running left broke one tackle and turned it into a positive play as Demetrius fling and fouls couldn't bring him down and it's a gain of three here is the offense coordinated by that man Nathaniel H and as you get past these names we're not going to see a ton of Mike Williams a former charger here tonight we don't think but that's the group that's different from a year ago it sure is last year that offensive line for the New York Jets one of the worst in all of football and they made it a point this off seon to bring in some talented guys they brought in some really good veteran offensive tackles got another guy back at Right Guard and this will be improved group toss over the right side B again and Leonard Floyd and his first snaps as a 49er made that stop a gain of a couple there is Nick senson who is the fourth defensive coordinator over the last 5 years for the 49ers and that guy in the middle Fred Warner he's good as it gets the National Football League at middle linebacker yeah pretty good chess match will be going on between Rogers and Fred Warner Fred is the one who directs this defense gets them lined up and they're going to want to try to disguise some coverages and some looks as best they can because as we all know Rogers likes to do a lot of the game at the line of scrimmage third down quick throw pass it dropped by Lazar and the frustration immediately for Aaron Rogers told us Lazard looks more like the green Packer Lazard this time he dropped what would have been a first down should have been an easy first down he's uncontested coming off the ball all he's got to do is turn around and catch the football he had an outstanding training camp by all accounts he's coming off a year last year that was very frustrating and subpar a lot of it had to do with the quarterback play of course once Rogers goes down you saw the frustration there by Aaron roders not being able to advance the sticks and maintain possession Mor had a big year last year hits Beauty and and the fair catch hauled in by Jacob coow after a 55 in these conversations but because he was the last player taken in the seventh round you know he's going to have to prove himself but I believe he's done that yes he's playing in an outstanding offense with a lot of really good players but somebody has to be able to deliver the football and he's been doing that since he took over here's a first look at Jordan Mason he lowers his head and runs into J Sherwood with a gain of two first start for Jordan Mason undrafted out of Georgia Tech jet defense loved and uh I know cuz you and I Troy worked together a long time of all the head coaches and guys who put game plans together he is at the top of the list for you right now he certainly is and you start talking about play callers and who does the best job and and there's always that debate for my money it's Kyle shanan I've been impressed with him since he got here to San Francisco and he puts a lot of stress on a defense and this is defense that he's very familiar with going back with Robert solo here's K about a yard and a half short of the first Quincy Williams who was an all proo last year a guy who was released by Jacksonville and has become a great player made that stop it'll be third short well just a nice job Brock pie knows that he's not going to be able to sit back there in the pocket has to get the ball out quick it's a fourman rush that this 49ers offensive front is going to see throughout this game for the most part and that's really the key for them offensively can they protect py can they create some Lanes to be able to run the football that's a big challenge for this group they're down and two back pedaling floated for Samuel and it's out of his reach and each side will go three and out to start the day with Michael Carter who was just rewarded with a three-year big time money contract extension in coverage well they're going to move Quinn and Williams around and he's already moved into different spots here on this opening possession this time he gets out he goes over the right tackle Colton mckivitz they still get four hands on him but you can see what he's able to do I I expect him to work against the rookie who's making his first start tonight Dominic Poney who won a job in training camp a very impressive young man but you got to believe that he's going to be seeing a lot of Quinn and Williams tonight wowski hits a gorgeous pun with Gibson backpedaling near the 26 well covered downfield and the tackle made by Renardo green good play by the and he is out to Rogers left on this play this is the fourth snap for Rogers Floyd was there and it's a little flip a catch a fumble by PA and a recovery by the 49ers war made the Stop and punched it right out of the arm of Breeze Hall yeah such a good job as Fred Warner comes over he's immediately attacking the football you see punch right there he gets it clean and is able to knock a Lo a loose an outstanding job by this 49ers defense the aggressiveness in which they play and Fred Warner his impact felt here well the fourth snap was devastating for the Jets last season Rogers leaves the field healthy but see what Warner's been able to do with the takeaways the fumble sets up the 49ers at the Jets 32 and Debo Samuel is in the back field and gets it over the right side cuts up field and a guy who's known as a wide back at times and was an all pro in 2021 doing things we hadn't seen in this league carries for three yeah and you go back to 21 when they started showcasing him because of the injuries they had the tailback position his carries have gone down since that year and you would expect that when they went out and made the trade for Christian mcaffrey but here we are in week one and you've got to believe he's going to be getting a fair amount of work tonight and who knows what this might look like as we move through the early part of this season second down and seven quick set up no throw and now Samuel what a good play play made by Quincy Williams who got his hand in there and knocked it away and that saved a big play third down yeah such a nice job by Quincy Williams as he comes across you see that he squares him up and he's right there to make a play and if he doesn't make a play there with the 49ers what theyel at is yards after the catch you see some of the patterns that they run you see right now he's telling him Deo Samuel saying get the ball out in front of me and he's right because had he have been able to get it out a little bit more boy Deo got a chance to catch and split the scene third down and seven herie he and Samuel on separate pages The Playbook and after the fumble a good job by this Jets defense in that play by Quincy Williams to force a field goal try yeah it's a big win for this Jets defense to give up the ball the way that they did on this side of the field and hold the 49ers to a three and out now a field goal attempt just a miscommunication between those two and we talked to Brock Pie about it there are some of these routes to where the receiver has some options as to what they might do but they were not on the same page on that play 46y drive by second year Pro Jake Moody and Moody drills it points off the turnover after just the second career lost fumble young career of gree Hall three points on the board for the 49ers and this drive will start again at the 30 he's as good as any left tackle in football he's still an excellent player in his 13th year but he's had a problem saying healthy Morgan Moses he's coming off PE surgery so those are the cornerstones going to protect Aon Rogers and their help will be key here is gree Hall over the left side no gain and the guy to raving about is John Simpson fourth round pick by the Raiders in 2020 was cut by the Raiders he was with Baltimore and now with the Jets and that side of the offensive line didn't get anything done no movement up front and that's going to be the test as as much as the Jets like having Rogers back and they want to be able to let him turn it loose a little bit they also understand against this fourman Rush at the 49ers they've got to be able to get Hall going and get some yards on the ground here's a toss H right side cuts up field and there Fred Warner again of just two Nick Bosa was there as well and that's about as good as a get on any defense ah he's just so fun to watch the way he recognizes things and hits the play here he is right here and you're see him read it and what he's able to do jets hurry back up to the line of third down and eight passes caught and a strong catch by Garett Wilson for a first down and 17 yds Von Rogers Well he has the underneath route to Lazar if he had wanted him for an easy completion but he likes the one-on-one match up with Garrett Wilson and Lenor and he delivers it where Wilson's able to make a play on the ball well gar Wilson you talk about the production that he's been able to have since he came into the league over the last few years and yet he's been able to do it without play quarterback you've got to believe that if Rogers stays hey he's poed for a huge Year little play action and now over the middle that one's caught by Hall but a short gain on the play of three Fred Warner made stop Aaron Rogers just Raves about Garett Wilson and he'll tell you that Garett can run a little hot at times we all but he he has everything you want in a top wide receiver and for Garrett who's been a two time yard receiver full year healthy Aaron Rogers who knows what this year could be it it'll be fun to watch and I hope for his sake I hope he gets a chance to experience that meaning I hope Rog stays healthy throughout this year because I think he's going to show some people some things that he just simply hasn't been able to delayed hand off and the play is made in the center of that line Malik Collins who is traded to the 49ers from the Texans was there to plug that hole it's third down Malik Collins is right here in the middle and you to see as he's able to just get up the field with the penetration just no chance for Bree Hall I mean this has been quite a match watching both of these defensive fronts go to work here in this first quarter thir down and seven and the pass is caught by Wilson back pedaling and a laser from Rogers for 14 yds well Wilson's here in the slot you see the way that as Aaron Rogers gets the ball he's able to hold it good protection let Wilson clear and then put it on him 49ers playing coverage on that play and Wilson was able to find the hole within that zone Wilson War number five at Ohio State used to work 17 with the Jets here's Bree Hall good throw good catch good play downfield Warner with a stop but a gain of 13 and a good block by the tight end Tyler Conlin to help spring that play it sure was and I like what Nathaniel hacket the play caller here is doing he's able to get the 49ers running a little bit you know you start getting pressure inside trying to run the football you're not having much success see if you can't get him on the perimeter with a quick throw and get Conlin out there the screen and it was set up nicely in a nice game I think the jury's been out on Nathaniel Hackett and he's got something to prove here this year after having to go through four different starting quarterbacks last year on the heels of him being the head coach let go in season in his first year with the Broncos here's Hall up the middle and so you know that of all Jets fans or jets personnel Nathaniel Hackett is glad to has 40-year-old quarterback back running this thing yes he is and hey there's a little heat on everyone who's wearing some green in this ball game Robert Salah included and I think he's an outstanding head coach but you got to you got to prove it you got to go win games and I honestly believe that if they had gotten anything out of the quarterback position over the last couple of years with this defense they would be playoff teams but they haven't gotten that in they've had some of the worst quarterback play over the last three years in the history of the game so Rogers doesn't have to be Superman here's one incomplete for Lazard Aaron Rogers has not been pressured yet and he has not had go outside the pocket now faced with third down and seven yeah and I think that's where that's where we're going to see kind of where Aron Rogers is we've seen it in training camp but you know early in his career which is true for most quarterbacks you've got your legs and you're able to create some plays and move the sticks and then as you start getting older and a guy that had 4 years old you just don't move as well 10 play the drive inside the Red Zone Third Down underneath Wilson first down Jets gets pop by of Andre Campbell but not before another third and long conversion for the Jets on this third possession well I think Rogers you know he tried getting that ball in there to him quick because it's zone defense he's wanting G Wilson to sit it down right there and and not and take that hit off of him he sees that he's continuing move he's trying to put it on him and protect him here comes dandre Campbell but a nice job of knowing that he's going to take a blow making the catch and picking up first down first down and 10 just outside the 10 there he is again nice move by Wilson another one and he sits down at the three well you mentioned Conlin earlier Tyler Conlin the tight end and watch this block because he's the one who's really kind of help helping Wilson get the ball and get up the field it's a really good job that's the second time now we've seen the the quick screen game like that and and then picking up the pretty positive yards off it it's second down and two and a half the Jets could get a first down without scoring a touchdown but not much room between the Y Line and the goal line hand off to Hall touchdown jet [Applause] and this Jets team fired up to see that possession go down the field and end up in the end zone yeah boy that looked like something there that that drive by the New York Jets Jet fans are at home they had seen many of those that was everyone was executing their assignments they go right down the field against a really good defensive team put it away gree had five rushing touchdowns a year ago he got one tonight and zerine able to sneak it in to the kneel down and out to the 30 going through training camp you're having these joint practices and all that goes that was a nice hole for Jordan Mason here's Samuel put one tackle and lowers his shoulder as he takes in jet territory a gain of five you look at the bio for Jordan Mason realize that one of the calling guards for the Shanah H whether it's because of the system they want one cut guys that can deliver a blow and Mason falls into that category yes and and Mike shanan was getting that kind of production back in the years when you would draft the running back in the first round you know there was more running back in the first round you know there was more expended on these players good throw and a drop by I who had it knocked Away by s Gordon it's an incomplete pass it brings up third down and this is one auk had for a second he had it he's he's trying to make the catch with strong hands and and saw Gardner does an excellent job of getting in there and being able to rip it out he's another guy that we talked about Garrett Wilson this is a guy a two-time All Pro first two seasons and already widely recognized the best corner in all football pater tan pretty good one in Denver just got rewarded with a foure 96 million extension yes sir all through respected Patrick tan here's a the catch and a first down at the 35 14 y from Brock P you got Brandon IU coming off the ball he's got an outside leverage Corner a little bit of a hand there to the face mask but he's with speed he's able to beat him to the outside the safety Adams in coverage and Brock P lays it out there and they're able to pick that one up so there were three third and long conversions for the Jets on their touchdown drive and that was third and long and a good throw from pie to offense an eligible receiver was covered on the line of scrimmage that penalties clined second down so because of the play the penalty lined by Jets so it's second down and 10 11 somewhere in there as we're under minute to go here in the first quarter we seing a little bit of the rough that we've seen it throughout the weekend coming into week one there's always a a bit of an unknown and and teams kind of get settled settled in early 49ers freeing out on their first two possessions got a little something going on this drive TOS to Mason nice run down inside the thir that was the 21st illegal formation called during week one so far this season there were Clemens is injured 11 a year ago and Clemens comes out with that right arm hanging a bit over to the sideline Michael is going to counted on to have a big year after losing Bryce huff and Quinton Jefferson and they traded John Franklin Meers up front and they can't work out a deal with h reic yet that's the end of one good first quarter here in Santa Clara first points Champions who lost in overtime in Super Bowl 58 to Kansas [Music] City here is a TOS to Debo going backward long way to go breaking tackles but he lost yards and S Garder is in on the Stop and a little slow to get up at the end of that play it turns into a loss of three and it brings up fourth down well that was just kind of hold your breath Quinn and William he gets all the way up the field he's the one who disrupts it hoping that he's going to crash down the line of scrimmage and not be a factor in the play and you what looked like they were going to lose significant yardage they're able to at least keep themselves in position here to attempt this field goal of 51 yard yards Jake Moody as a rookie made two field goals in the Super Bowl both over 50 conditions ideal good snap good hold and good kick for the third round pick from Michigan who is two for two on the night and it's a 76 game L than a minute into and a return by Gibson Xavier Gibson and a punt return for a touchdown and overtime to win week one over Buffalo a year ago Jets had that impressive Drive last time they had it let's see who design Danel hack did as far as getting the ball out of rogers's hands quickly running the ball mixing it up some of the screen game as well this one aired out and Wilson had a progress stopped by Lenor and frustration by Aaron Rogers as Wilson stopped his route Rogers under pressure by Jordan Elli and just Lenor gets in there and and slows him down Jordan Elliott he gets he gets a hit at at the very end of that play on on Aaron roders he's you know people at home may not understand but when you've been out of the game as long as you as long as Rogers has you want to take a hit just to kind of get back into the ball game and the field of it tough run by Bree Hall up the middle and charvarius Ward is in to make the stop a game six it's it's pretty clear though you mentioned it earlier Joe that in visi with Aaron Rogers he said hey there's two guys that we're going to feed ball to and that's Bree Hall and Garrett Wilson and that certainly has been the case we saw the drop early by alen Lazard since then it's pretty much all Wilson in the air and Bree Hall he's really come along he's always caught the ball well he had a lot of catches last year but he's even more of a threat this year it's third down and four Rogers in trouble drag down and so is Rogers at the 30 Bo was the first guy there in Leonard Floyd cleaned up number 77 offense penalty to time the that was against Tyron Smith it's declined it's a sack this great match up here with Nick Bosa going against 77 Tyron Smith you see the get off that Bosa has he's just able to get past him and Morgan Moses on the other side he had some problems as well so you know Bosa and visiting with him how much better he feels coming into this year after having had a full training camp last year he was a hold out and he said it was noticeable how he felt early in the year cowing the rookie is out across the 30 8yd return as Chaz made the tackle for the Jets Leonard Floyd Runner undrafted low round draft picks TR Davis was a six pick went to the Hall of Fame after making the team as a special teamer here's P takes off and goes head first for 10 and a first down for San Francisco that's a really nice job by Brock birie once he gets out of the pocket and he really excelled last year throwing the ball outside the pocket but he's got all that open field nobody really expects to run all that much they're getting underneath the receivers but go back to what you said Joe with Bobby Turner and what he's been able to do I just think that you know they know the type of back they don't have to be high graph picks but they do have to have certain skills here's TBO right side to Midfield and it's a little bit like the offens line when we visited Kyle Shanahan about the offensive line group because people were talking about this group and saying well they really didn't do a whole lot to upgrade the offensive line and he said hey we'd rather spend our money on the guys who score touchdowns and we feel like this line is good enough just like last year for us to be a dominant offense and be a really productive offense not to say you can just put anybody out there you've got to get the right kinds of guys but Bobby Turner and Mike Shanahan and Kyle Shanahan they approach that the same way with these running backs and they've had a lot of success doing it second down and four here's Mason good strong run first [Applause] down got a good block from George KD who does it all at tight end and you talk about some of those names as you see Bobby Turner like Ruben drones and Tatum Bell and Mike Anderson and I mentioned Terrell Davis is in the Hall of Fame incredible player not B Who coming out of college but they get coached up and they're good in the system well Mike Shanahan's running game in Denver was the Envy of every offense around the NFL in the way in which they did it and Kyle's taking it and expanded it here's another good one by the undrafted Jordan Mason for a first down [Applause] well Jordan Mason coming into this season in his third year he's only been averaging a couple carries a game over the first couple of years and he knew that in order to get more playing time which you'd have to believe the coaches had talk to him because they do want to start taking a little bit of the wear and tear off of Christian mcaffrey that he had to be a little bit better in certain areas he's always been a Runner as we just saw there but he spent a lot of time working on his catching ability had a judge machine and worked extensively this off season catches this toss a flag is thrown back behind the play CJ Mosley was dragged down it looks like this could be a holding 68 offense first down it's col Mich the right tackle he got out there in a pretty good position you're going to see the short side toss and he's leading the way and at that point if he's just able to slow down not EAS a lot easier said than done but you know gets a grab right there on him and official right there bring it back and Kyle Shanahan I'm going to say something that I don't know if you're going to go with me on this but he doesn't have Christian mcaffrey tonight but Shanahan is such a thinker about how to put a game plan together about angles and about leverage and all these things there's part of him that wants to win this game prove that he can win without Christian mcaffrey and do it in a creative way to beat a really good defense well you've heard me talk about it Joe that you know I think yeah CJ Mosley walking off I think when you look at Mike Shanahan tree or K Shanahan's tree some of the best offensive Minds in the game today have worked with Kyle Shanahan and they're all good at game plan when you start losing key guys this one is broken up and good coverage by DJ Reed as he knocked it away from Debo Samuel and the guy who makes his defense run in Middle for the Jets CJ Mosley we saw him walking off the field now he's in the injury tent and he was the one who was dragged To The Ground by mckivitz crowd reacting because they show that last play with coverage by DJ Reed and the crowd thinking that Reed got to Debo early but flag it's second and [Applause] 19 birie protection wide open Jennings and a spinning catch and a first down inside the 20 [Applause] you just don't see this much a and's defense that often but there was so much room in middle of the field for Brock pie to sit back there with some time and just lay this football well you saw it from up here joean Jennings he comes into the middle of the field there's just nobody there and a great job of overcoming the penalty and picking up a first down Jennings got his contract extended he does a little bit of everything for this team Mason hello touchdown 49ers a flag was thrown right at the end of the play and this is coming back Diva Samuel came play first down this was well down field before Mason was getting into the End Zone it wipes away a 17 yd touchdown run well Dominic Poney number 77 talked about him the rookie he does an outstanding job of creating the lane there's Deo Samuel at the top here's a better look at it boy that's one of those that by the letter of the rule I mean that's holding but D didn't have to go to that extent Jordan Mason out there on the edge like that even if s Gardner is able to free up at all Mason's going to go right through him here's Deo you know he fired up as he lowers his shoulder to DJ Reed and flag is down in the secondary back at the 10 yeah when you watch that replay of the hole here's a call pass interference number 44 offen so now with these flags it's used check guilty of offensive pass interference and wipes away that play by Samuel now they're getting an assist from New York that because this was a backward pass they're picking up the flag and no offensive pass inter interference which they called on use check so they pick it up and that puts the ball back just outside the 13 well the difference in this game right now is the 49ers have not been able to capitalize when they've got down here they got the F recovery they were unable to get the touchdown they settled for the three point they got a good drive going last time they they stalled with some penalties they've overcome some some penalties here but this is key this ball game Mason left side cuts up field first and goal KN down at the two double team on the outside they bring the tied in and Eric sber over here right here and just do an excellent job of getting that push which is all you're looking for if you're Jordan Mason and the way that he runs as physical as he is you know he's able to move some people as well he's doing a nice job during this first half running the ball Mosley a huge piece of this defense still on the bench he first and goal [Applause] Evo sweep he is in for the tou down he almost loses ball as he's crossed the goal line he's looking for trying to hang on to as best he can takes a pretty good hit there Chuck Clark that's a that's a nice drive overcoming the penalties that they had to set him back and finish it off against this good defense offensive line did a job extra point is [Applause] good boo was called Gibson and Davis wait for the kick and this one will bounce out of the back of the end zone we check in relas Alters about CJ Mosley yeah Joe he's now out of the medical tent they were working on him it all go in the center of that defense Jeff Al who was a linebacker for the 49ers for 10 years during his playing career this is the fifth Drive no first downs on three of them the touchdown Drive featured five [Music] Hall tries the left side he's brought down by Hargrave Javon Hargrave big piece of the defense last year at seven sacks 31 years old and a 9-year Pro from South Carolina state well you talked to the defensive front and the guy who's coaching him Chris cerak is an outstanding coach by all accounts and there's look at him and what he's meant to Nick Bosa and what he's meaning now to Leonard Floyd all across the board you can hardly come to San Francisco and be a defensive lineman and not improve as a player because of the impact that he has Hall to the 35 and this 49er defense flying around odm made the stop a gain of two he was in Detroit koser and Domin zooo Ziggy on 14 and a half sack season in 2015 mentioned Bosa Defensive Player of the Year cash in last year these guys love them you see Rogers are PL games right now with the safety it looked like it was going to be maybe a single high look and they went to the two deep and Rogers comes up and he checks out of the play changing it flag on play Rogers spins away and throws it in the direction of cin as he was under pressure flag T came down early Rogers thinks it's allation number 76 on the line of St that Pen's declined results of the play fourth down it's not an offside instead another legal formation call this time against John Simpson the left guard here's John Simpson I mean this obviously has been a point of emphasis here through week one Bo that was awfully close 22nd illegal formation call of week one 10 in week one last year backpedaling is a and out of bounds after getting back outside the different guy from the one I saw last year and some of the work that he had and just a a really explosive player but he has looked extremely good and that offensive line has been dominant here in this first half against this Jets defensive front CJ Mosley back in there for New York leading by six protected to for K kennel with a catch and out across the 35 there are a few people having more fun playing football in the NFL than George KD yeah not many people having much fun in life as much fun in life as George K but you you let a guy of his caliber come off the ball in zone coverage like that nobody's disrupting the rout he's in able to get into that intermediate area and Brock pie once again just lays out there for him longest play of the game for the 49er 26 yds KD here Debo and it run back and he is back to the line of scrimmage that's it Quincy Williams first guy in to make the step Chris mcaffrey the 28y old good run by Mason run to the 45 you know you bring in a back like Christian McCaffrey and he's more than just a running back and and that's why they made that trade and he's perfect in the system like this with Kyle Shanahan but tonight is about Jordan Mason and he he knows and I'm sure Kyle danan talked about talked to him before this game it's a style anyway so he fits up against this defense pretty well but told him hey you're going to have to get some tough yards it's going to be tough sledding you got to earn every bit of it and he's had some nice Lanes when they haven't been clean he has looked awfully good finishing off of these runs aaging over 6 and 12 yards a carry third down and three now is p Mason first down and a good catch with Quincy Williams right there stride for stride you know I look at this defense Joe for the Jets and saw partner he has not been on field for this possession he's not on the field now obviously that is impactful for this group but that's what I talked about a little bit earlier Jordan Mason as far as him being able to catch the football coming out of the back field doing some of the things s Gardner will get a report on him as to what might be aing him but Mason knew he had to get better as a receiver if he was going to see more playing time here in 24 and an Eckles in the game for Gardner Under Pressure Samuel makes the catch on the throw for herie and with Samuel making the grab its gain of just three and
