Penn State Game Predictions for Home Opener

and well mostly I just these Graphics are correct so I want to run these particular Graphics okay uh so uh keys to the game what do you guys what do you guys what interests you about this game other than the concl the conclusion of the game what interests you this is the better of the Mac teams that they're gonna play like Bowling Green I think is much better than Kent State and Bowling Green has a lot of things going for it uh probably more at that level than than coming in this weekend they're very experienced believe they got a win at uh Georgia Tech last year um and they they they've been like pretty good Conor basick has uh he went to Indiana he's a guy that's got experience at this at the Big 10 level so they've got pieces they don't have the you know one to 85 that's going to compete with Penn State especially up front but like they they've got some pieces there that's it's not the the worst Mac team that they're going to play in the next three weeks so I think you've got that um they gave Minnesota game last year in the bowl um good tight end good running back um but I mean it's Penn State should still win comfortably but there's you know uh coach that used to coach here always pointed out that you know these teams uh they can give you trouble because they've got some Talent they're pretty pretty good football team at that level one of the things Sean Joe pno used to say that I was gonna do my impression but I don't want to lose subscribers yeah you know okay uh so I I I wanna we talked about this yesterday players because these non-conference games you want to look good you want to improve there are certain things that you can still improve from a mental and execution perspective if you're Penn State and the starters but a lot of times this is an opportunity to see some of the young guys late in the game so that's what we did yesterday and I want to get your thoughts here what young players are you interested in watching this weekend uh on the football field maybe for the first time or to get an extended look at them if they played last week Ryan anyone that jumps to mind that you want to you want to talk about here first interesting well we talked about linebacker being you know a position that that needs depth um so certainly a guy like Anthony specka is able to get out there I'd be curious to see how he performs but I'll I'll actually go with the offensive line just because I Penn State usually they rotate their offensive line don't get me wrong but when when you go through Snap counts after every game I mean the offensive line are are always among the highest right um they're starters as it is so these are your opportunities to get a Cooper cousins 20 plus reps to even Dominic Ry by the way played 10 plus reps last week um Sean I know I know that's your boy you've been pushing him for a while um you know guys like Javin Williams uh he played 10 reps last week so there there's there are some guys here who could really use the Reps and this is your opportunity to get them obviously Kent State as well you know that'll be another chance to to get some of these younger guys you know 10 reps or so Egan Boer by the way another guy we're hearing a lot of good uh feedback from you know this would be an opportunity for him to to get some reps too so to me it's it's how those guys you know handle you know playing starters at a at a Max school can they can they handle their own do they make the little mistakes uh or are they technically and you know from A playbook perspective scheme perspective are they ready if they had to be thrown into the mix later on so to me that's where I'll be focused the most uh Fitz any any other players that you're interested in yeah definitely I know Nate wrote about this uh yesterday and there's there's a lot of guys that could make sense I think maybe we see a little bit more in in the Kent State game just based on the opponent but uh you look at the offens Lyman you mentioned Chim Ono earlier um he's he's intriguing uh Javin Williams needs more reps and I think that you know we talk about those guys that are on the two deep Javin Williams Nolan ruchie not as not as much as young guys as we probably would consider them because they've been in the forfront of our mind through camp and things like that but they need reps JB Nelson needs reps he needs to get uh where he can get you know like I think that's a that's a big thing there Dom Ry of course maybe get Cooper cousins some Center reps and see how that goes so I think the offensive line is key here uh Quinton Martin was wearing his number 25 oh sorry T Frank light bulb yeah so I just wanted to ask so we're talking a lot about with some of these guys uh third quarter fourth quarter maybe are you saying that you can see Javin Williams and Nolan ruchie playing in the first half and and kind of rotating series on the offensive line yeah I don't know that it'll be one to one but I think it's it's an opportunity for you to get them when the game is still relatively in doubt and those are important reps you know garbage time reps are fine because they're still live reps but at the same time you know if you're if you're still putting points on the board with Nick Singleton in the back in the back field as opposed to Quinton Martin or Tyler holsworth or something like that there's a difference there so I think you you get those guys reps um you know I'm I looked at the weather earlier this week it seems to be getting better as the week goes on um but it's not going to be a hot humid day like West Virginia was last weekend so maybe that's a different reason to get those guys reps but reps nonetheless so you look on offense you got those guys mentioned quit Martin um T Frank I think you highlighted he was in his number 25 at practice uh so if this is how they're going to do it with four games for him four games for Corey Smith this is obviously a game that that opens that door for a lot of guys um a lot of the Freshman guys I I'm excited to see and I hope we get do get to see him I think it was Christian here says excited to see grunk potentially play I agree I want to see him be as as Ryan put it execute the Playbook correctly cuz I think he's capable of that I saw some good stuff from him in the blue white game it was like two or three throws I want more information about Ethan grm cuz there's a lot of things there that I really really really like there's some there's some Talent some natural ability that I'm excited for pen football fans to see on a larger scale and I do hope we actually get to see it not him come in the fourth quarter and hand the ball off a bunch of times but also throw some passes and have the opportunity to execute some reading of the defense they they do the go ahead what's that they they they do run the offense um fairly regularly I mean it's going to be more running obviously uh more handoffs but like if he comes in he'll throw the ball like it's not going to be a situation where he's just in there for the entire fourth quarter and doesn't doesn't drop back and throw the ball they they need to get him to see that especially that's a big reason they scrimmage in Beaver Stadium is to see those lines to see those angles it's so much different than on the practice field and if you can get those guys reps like that and it's not only important for for grunk but Anthony Ivy Tyler Johnson maybe tyer Denmark if he gets in the game like those guys can really benefit from something like that Ryan you you saying I'm just trying to pull up last year's snaps from like the Delaware game I don't I just don't remember them playing third stringers all that much I mean especially with the bow situation and you know they want to get him as many reps as they possibly can like to me I just feel like you're going to see a lot more boow per going late into that game and maybe they get grun a series or too late but I just think that's what you're going to see personally interesting yeah that's not as fun but like Jackson smull got two reps last year versus Delaware yeah that game with him a long time do you think Fitz because they are playing him more uh in in the regular part of the off part of the offense that that's still the case or do you think that uh it'll be kind of more like it was last year because I do think Andy cotal Nikki and his approach to things is probably different than what they had previously so is there is there difference there that might change that approach this year I think it depends if they hit some big plays early and extend that lead early early like you're not waiting till the you know Penn State has tended to wait till the third quarter to put up some some big numbers and if you can get that going then you get your series with b and the first team offensive line which I think is very important um you know he's worked with the first team offensive line so he gets it so maybe it's it's not as Paramount as it typically would be but you need to get him time with that group and then get those guys out of there and then cycle back through so I think that that's the important one is uh is that Series right there and then then then go from there and try and get your young guys in try and get your Walkins in reward the guys that that deserve it and you know again this is probably a better conversation for Kent State the grunk Meer thing because I think they're going to roll it up on K State and bowling Green's probably going to be a little bit stickier than uh than than the golden flashes so any other thoughts before we get into our game predictions because that's a great uh segue into that Fitz Ryan anything else before I think history like in these moments like not saying James likes to run up the score but he likes to have a good healthy looking scoreboard and I think there's been a lot of times in these kind of games where we've thought we could see backups earlier than we do a lot of times they don't they don't come in until Midway through the third quarter or later and yeah so we'll see uh I I can see like like for example Quinton Martin and those guys they make a lot more sense to get in there in the third quarter especially positions like running back um but like you know like I said Jackson SW played two snaps against Delaware didn't play at all against UMass now UMass it was a rainy kind of game it was a little different I don't want to put too much St into that they also they didn't they didn't blast through UMass the way you thought they might of where that game that game lingered much longer than you made that rough yeah and dayquon Hardy taking two punts back really cuts into offensive snaps yeah good point um there is the conversation about putting up numbers and the Heisman and Drew Aller and I don't know if any of that's relevant but uh we can talk about hey ask about it people have asked about it and I know Fitz has already responded to some people over at blue white Illustrated dcom about this conversation so it is something that fans are talking about if you want listen uh KJ Winston was the defensive player of the week for the Big 10 because he had 12 tackles um and you know that's people look at Stats and if you if you start out a game and yes you had an explosive passing attack but you only had 212 yards passing in the first game if you know if if that's going to be part of the conversation he's got to put up 300 yards passing four touchdowns touchdowns like there's stat padding that goes into that that is totally irrelevant to the quality of play but when we just box score Scout this game matters for that um any one time they really did that was with saquin putting one kick returns or punt returns or trying to to Really maximize those allpurpose shards but yeah anyway uh all right let's get into the game predictions Ryan uh you lead us off and then I'll follow I don't even know what my score I 48 to 10 thanks bud yeah the article is out right now you can read all from everybody but Ryan 48 to 10 what do you think Bowling Green is a better team than Ki let let's definitely start with that I just think okay they ran it up quick on forom last week but they played their starters through the majority of this game and forom still had 400 yards in that game 185 yards passing I think you see a heavy Run game you try and get KRON Allen some momentum Nick Singleton's already feeling good get Cam Wallace in there get Quinton Corey whatever it may be uh I just also think you don't you don't have much of a reason to show new Concepts give Big 10 teams a reason to scout you I think you just build off your momentum from last week keep that rolling really for these next couple weeks uh maybe when you get to Illinois UCLA you start opening things up a little bit differently but uh here we go cam Wallace says 23 career yeah yeah I I think cam Wallace will play a ton of ton of this next upcoming weekend but to me it's it's really built on the Run game uh don't show a whole lot because you you shouldn't have to uh bowling green offense certainly can do some things I don't think they're going to do a whole lot against a defense as fast and physical as Penn State's uh but their defense also gave forom plenty of room to make some plays and I think that's why this will end up being you know something that that does probably cover the spread I had 48 to10 um you know I I think once we get to the fourth quarter you you'll see quite a few backups in Fitz what do you got I had 49 to 10 so Ryan was I'm just I'm I'm price is writing Ryan here um I think that Penn State should be in control like I said it's an older Bowling Green Team so they've got some experience maybe that lengthens the game a little bit um you're not facing anything overwhelming in terms of quarterback play but this guy has been around for a long long time um so it's uh it's a situation where I think that that maybe that strings it a little bit longer than it needs to go but Penn State's defense is I think too fast for for this I think pen State's defense has the ability to take things away uh vertically horizontally Every Which Way so uh I think that that's the difference and then you get some punts maybe maybe get to work some some of that punt return maybe get to work some of the other stuff but uh yeah 49 to 10 is what I have for for Penn State I I didn't even look at the um uh I didn't really look at the spread and over over under but I saw it at one point it was like 48 was the over under and I we each have Penn State I think scoring more than that so I think that that's interesting and I don't think Bowling Green will score much I'm terrified to uh predict a shutout in any game because you look at Northwestern last year when they fumbled the opening kickoff and then all of a sudden Northwestern kicks a field goal right away uh that's that's why you stay away from that yeah 48 and a half right now by the way is the overrun go ahead I have 51 to 10 and I don't know how I arrived at that um full disclosure I haven't watched a single second of Bowling Green yet that's on my to-do list for today 5110 because Penn State and points but really what I came with away from our uh you know our anal Anis is that we're all in the exact same spot and I don't know how any of us really got there but here is a live look you love your memes you love your [Laughter] memes I mean it's better than looking at our faces for another five minutes on the show just put it up for the rest of the show then yeah put on the rest of the show no I'm kidding I'm kidding don't do that BR Brad Mohler says do you see them skip fourth down and give live field goal reps yes I mean that was you know ending with 51 points like I do think they're going to try and kick some field goals and get some work there um I don't know when in the game that happens but I do think that they want to get that done in this um this particular game
