INSTANT REACTION: Eagles vs. Packers NFL Week 1 - Saquon Barkley Dominates In Debut + Jalen Hurts

[Music] what a win for the Philadelphia Eagles on opening night in Brazil a thriller of the game which came down to the final play and the birds escape with the 3429 victory it was a hardfought win it was a cha chaotic Victory it was certainly a game in which we were riding the Seesaw going back and forth it was ugly for a lot of moments but for Philadelphia to win this game in the fashion in which they did it's going to go a long way in setting the tone for the 2024 season you're watching Eagles Now by chat sports I'm Chase senior no matter where you are how you're tuned in I appreciate you for making our instant reaction postgame show here on the channel a part of your night because for a lot of you out there it is really late but we have an eagles Victory to talk about here Birds winning it by five and I have so many takeaways with how the Eagles were able to win the good the bad the ugly and let's just begin with what this means for this football team what a victory for the Philadelphia Eagles to be able to flush what happened last year when they started 10- one then they lost six of seven they got dump trucked and embarrassed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Wild Card round a lot of people wanted Nick serani fired and while hoe Roseman was very active in spending in free agency and doing a good D good job of identifying talent in the NFL draft there were a lot of question marks for this team how are they going to be able to rebound mentally and emotionally after what transpired last year how is this team going to look with two new coordinators and Kell Moore and Vic fangio could Nick serani win back the locker room after taking accountability but also owning up to the fact that what happened last year was not acceptable so for the Eagles to flush and overcome what happened last year and then in this game alone to overcome three turnovers and to beat one of the top teams in the NFC that's a hell of a victory in international territory in the first NFL game in Brazil ever and the first opening night game on a Friday that the National Football League has had in 50 years it is really really hard to win a game against a legit team when you lose the turnover battle and Philadelphia lost a turnover battle but think about how they started this game with the pressure on this team from what happened last year they had 12 men on the field on defense taquon Barkley slipped on the grass which was an awful surface on his first play as an eagle and on the first play from scrimmage Jaylen Herz on the third play offensively threw late and made an awful decision throwing an interception on that pass intended for Devonte Smith you had a Jaylen Carter personal foul call and then the quarterback in the center had a bad exchange which led to a turnover on the six offensive play now shout out to Vic fangio and this defense which got leaky at moments and they gave up some explosive plays but they helped set the own of this game by only giving up two field goals after those two giveaways Green Bay had an opportunity in the first few minutes of this game to go up 14 nothing and this game could have been over but Vic fangio had this defense clicking quinan Mitchell was making plays this defense bent but did not break and this team bent and did not break and that goes to show you the culture that they have we've heard all offseason all training camp all preseason about how the Vibes are great and the energy is great and that starts with Nick serani who I think doesn't get enough credit for the culture that he's been able to put in place and this team really never batted an eye they never really panicked they didn't piss down their leg they had mental fortitude and then late in the game they put their nuts on the table and how was Philadelphia able to win this game this is the biggest story of the ball game in my opinion how about the big boy drive only up by two after a terrible and horrendous Jaylen Herz interception in which he threw across his body across the field in the end zone taking three points off the board Swang momentum back to Green Bay what did the Eagles do up by two after that pick when they got the ball back Big Boy Drive put your nuts on the table type of Drive 16 plays 67 yards 725 off the clock which resulted in a jake Elliot Chip Shot to make it a five-point game to Salt the game away great execution great play calling great play designs from Kellen Moore who we saw his early imprints on this team sequan Barkley wheel route pre-nap motion after finishing 32nd in pre- snap motion last year getting creative timely calls Jaylen Hertz sticking some throws now the Eagles on that final drive did get some penties from Green Bay to give them two very critical first downs but it's no joke when you can run it right down the Packers throats execute and play bully ball which we love in Philadelphia and go 16 plays nearly 70 yards and take seven and a half minutes off the clock now before a hattick three touchdowns and the Eagles as a team 38 carries a buck 44 really took him a little while to get that run game going this is the big thing for me they overcome three turnovers to the pack ERS won to still win this game it goes to show you what they're capable of being and the potential that they have as a football team and time of possession pretty even although it skewed a little bit toward Philadelphia because of that long drive in which they matriculated down the field for Green Bay lot of Splash plays lot of explosive plays the Eagles had some holes on the defensive side but again the Eagles defense kind of won the team the game by forcing two early Packers field goals if they give up two touchdowns there which would have happened last year you already know it that game's probably cooked for the Eagles so 414 yards of total offense and Jordan love did get injured late made a couple of good plays of note Josh Jacobs ran Crazy in that second half he had less than one yard per carry prior to recess and then after the game he was really really good the one turnover a blanket ship interception of Jordan love and then the time of possession for Green Bay at 27 Barkley his debut as a Philadelphia Eagle gets going with a bang 24 carries 109 yards two touch Downs on the ground there was one in which he displayed power there was a touchdown in which he was untouched keep in mind that sequan Barkley his Giants offensive lines the last two years bottom three in run block win rate the Eagles the last two years top three in run block win rate he has never played behind an offensive line like this he has never played with complimentary weapons like this he has never played with a quarterback like this saquin Barkley has plenty of gas left in the tank saquan Barkley can still play he has juice and all offseason I had said I think that sequin can have a Christian mcaffrey impact on this Eagles team 1,500 to 2,000 allpurpose yards he can impact the game as a runner as a pass catcher he's also a very good pass protector and we saw the entire skill set on display for saquan Barkley he ran with power he ran with finesse he ran with explosion he ran with quickness he had getaway speed he bul those Defenders he had great vision he had great decisiveness he had great patience this is a very special player and a very special running back it's unfortunate that now at 27 years old he's finally on a team this good because he's been so highly productive with New York but he played on awful teams but to see him shine in this manner after all of the that he got from Giants fans from leaving that dog organization to come to this one and for him to pop off for a hat trick tonight eat the crow Giants fans can be sour but he is ours now and for the White Hall Lehigh Valley native to return to Philadelphia and to have a debut like this what a performance and how about the wheel route that he caught the touchdown pass on first of all great play designed from Kell Moore and Jaylen Herz dropped that ball in the bucket it could not have been a more perfect throw saquan Barkley has an opportunity to an NFL offensive player of the year this because I had some names listed here that I want to get to Jaylen Herz the good the bad the dimes and the picks 20 of 34 278 yards two touchdowns and two picks it was so funny to see the jayen Herz detractors come out on social media and in the comment section here on YouTube when he threw that pick intended for Devonte Smith terrible throw awful read it is never great when you were late to make the read and throw it to the middle area of the field terrible decision awful throw his second pick maybe even worse when you consider the situation and him being a coach's son you know his pops is like Jaylen you just can't do that have an opportunity to get a field goal to make it a five-point game he rolls to his right throws all the way across his body and across the field picked off in the end zone by Jer Alexander those interceptions cannot happen and this came after Jaylen Herz in training camp didn't throw a pick for more than 300 passing attempts now I think that Herz can flush those but it is a little bit concerning because he threw 15 picks last year but the throw to Sequon Barkley just gorgeous throw dropped it right in the bucket the 67 yard touchd pass to AJ Brown great throw as AJ Brown cooked Jer Alexander there were a couple of stick throws that he made which are really good throws linking up with Devonte Smith tight window throws Jaylen Herz is a really good quarterback in this league don't try to tell me otherwise because the highs are really high he's had some lows but he's had many more highs than lows as for his receivers AJ Brown the Smith we saw tonight why the Eagles prioritized paying both players we saw tonight why they're maybe the best wide receiver duo in the National Football they're so well-rounded they complement each other really well with how different they are but they're both just great players AJ Brown five catches a buck 19 the long of 67 those five catches coming on 10 targets that's an average of 23.8 the 67 seven yard touchdown that he had not only did he beat Jer Alexander with the dirty route the pull away speed that he had on that play was wow like good and then Devonte Smith seven catches for 84 yards it felt as though all of those catches came in critical spots whether it be the time in the game the down and the distance or the impact and the importance of the play on some of these money Downs or when the Eagles had a got to have it type of play Devonte Smith came through do want to talk about this defense Zack Bon and ncoe Dean noobe Dean was everywhere noobe Dean was making plays left and right noobe Dean looked like the best linebacker in college football from when he was at Georgia reading plays diagnosing plays anticipating plays blowing plays up against the run against the pass his best game is a pro and I know the sample size is small but we can see why ncoe Dean and Zack Bon beat out Devin white they both were tremendous in this game all things considered and this is something great for noobi Dean to build off of and I've always said this about him his lack of size is a thing but he can make up for it with the smart football instincts his feel and just his ability to kind of foresee things before they happen dude was an engineering major at Georgia and you see those smarts on display but for how an experienced he is as a player in this league because he simply hasn't played a lot to look the way that he did tonight I was so impressed and then Zack Bon Zack Bon while with the New Orleans Saints was a failed third round pick as an edge rusher Vic Fango turns him into an off ball linebacker and him and niobe Dean are going sideline to sideline making plays up and down the field Zack Bon was really good Vic fangio used him as a Blitzer from time to time Zack Bon had two sacks and we've made the Vic fangio Andrew van GLE type of comparison here on this show because fangio brought the best out of Van Kinkle and he was one of the highest graded pass rushers in the game how about the way that he Incorporated and utilized Zack Bond into Kobe Dean Zack Bon 15 tackles 11 solo two sacks one tfl two quarterback hits his second sack ended the game and the Eagles got him for nothing they paid him nothing so I love the early returns and the early signs of that as for some of the bad some of the concerns Eagles pass rush just not great they only had the two sacks um they're both belonging to Bon I didn't think they did a great job of generating a consistent pass rush five quarterback kits in this game and then CJ Gardner Johnson missed tackle after tackle the big one obviously leading to the Jaden Reed 70 yard touchdown he has to be better I think he will be better because I've seen there's a better football player in there so that is the instant reaction postgame
