Cade York wins Commanders kicking job after disappointing 2023 season

Right now, the commanders are in the middle of preparing for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Sunday afternoon and the team will practice one more time before then traveling on Saturday, John Durant is at the commanders facility and John, you know, we've heard a lot about the offense and the defense, but a lot can really ride on specialists like the kicker Washington actually just traded for one about two weeks ago. Simone didn't start this summer here, but this is Kate York's job. Washington sending a conditional seventh round pick next year to the Browns to bring York here the final week of training camp. So he kicked in the preseason finale when a perfect two for two in field goal tries and was perfect on his two extra point tries as well. Earlier in this summer didn't win the kicking job in Cleveland Dustin Hopkins got that job. It was the same story in 2023. Hopkins beating him out and York wasn't on an active roster. All of last season. He tells me it was a tough year but it gave him perspective on life, the sport and his faith says the weight on his shoulders feels much lighter than previous seasons just being able to enjoy football. Um, because it's a blessing and my real job isn't kicking a football. My real job is being a believer and discipling people. Um, and now I guess you could just enjoy football much as a hobby. Um, so it's something I still steward well and work hard at, but it takes a lot of pressure off. He's got a really strong leg. Uh, he's like, you know, bigger size for a kicker in general, but he long levers and he can really rip it. Yeah, strong leg. That's what everybody says. First thing they say about Cade York when his first NFL game back in 2022 at the Browns hit a 58 yard game winner against the Panthers. Looking to find a long term home here in Washington, Simone. Hey, we have been looking for a kicker since June and we know that the games can be won or lost in those small moments with a specialist, like a kicker, really, really matter. John.
