'Our team group chat was blowing up': Jenner loves what new name represents for Ottawa

I'm joined with Ottawa charge Captain Brienne Jenner how good does that sound Ottawa charge we finally have a name yeah it sounds amazing it's so exciting to get our identity today I think it's so fun for our fans and I know our our team group chat was blowing up and everyone's pretty excited what was your overall opinion on it when you first heard the charge I think it took a second to sink in like it's such a momentous day um and there's so much history that we're making with these logos and I love I think you know the the word charge I love that it's the same in French and English for a bilingual city um I love what it represents with with Ottawa being you know the leader of the nation where where you know government is but also an OE to our fans like I think last year our fans showed up and and showed us how truly you know of a special place Ottawa is and how much of a hockey City they are and how much they support us and I think having a name that's a nod to them is is really special did you guys have a say at all in what the name or the logo was going to be no we were I I was as surprised as as fans today so um yeah it it was really cool like I was just looking forward to this and almost like Christmas morning um the buildup was really cool oh no I think we're all excited we were waiting the entire year to finally get it and it it like you said it feels like Christmas morning that we finally have it it's just something to be excited for after such an incredible year but just looking back to last year and talking about what the names could potentially be what did you guys talk about in the dressing room like like in your mind did you have something that you really wanted you know what it wasn't a huge topic of conversation until recently when they started dropping the hints and then there was a lot of guesses in in the team group chat um people were guessing alert I think that name was out there um the the bull Emoji threw a few people off people were thinking the bullseye or bulls so um now knowing what it is it all makes sense and I think the whole team's pretty excited and excited for the jerseys and all the the new apparel what was your first guess when you saw the hints drop on social media I was way off um I read way too much into number 17 Gabby Hugh's yeah picture so I was like deep diving on Canadian history in 1917 and uh a little bit off but it kind of makes sense when you think about it I didn't get it at first but she's charging you know yeah but that was a good one for sure also just looking back to last season what an incredible first year of the pwhl what was a highlight for you I think I mean the moment that always sticks out was our home opener um just the reception that we had and it was just a feeling of oh my gosh this is for real I it had been something that our sport had been building towards for so many years and um you know players like myself and my teammates had been working towards as well and to just step in like onto the ice in that moment and see the fans it was like wow we're here and this is just the beginning of a an amazing chapter mhm and obviously like you said seeing the fans is an incredible thing but for me being at those games not just seeing the female supporters but I would see so many guys and little boys with signs and cheering their little hearts out and I think that's what really grows the game so that was really special for me as well and just like such a beautiful moment but how do you take uh kind of a disappointing end to the season for you guys and turn it into something positive heading into this next season oh I think we're we're super motivated um you know obviously the season didn't end with the result that we wanted um but we learned a lot um and we made a lot of really good steps in in building the foundation of a franchise um you know I think we have some really good people in our dressing room on our staff um and it was really exciting to see everyone kind of just take a step back look in the mirror and see where we can get better and I think that's the attitude you want after a season like that and and we're pretty excited to to learn from that and and come back even stronger and what are some of your expectations for this season as well um I think we have to live up to the to the name I think we have to play that aggressive style that uh I think we were you know in many games known for last year um you know we have to bring that physicality and and you know you know hopefully continue to make the city of Ottawa proud and and you know get the results that that you know we're capable of yeah and going back to the name for quick second obviously you guys are going to have to have a new chant potentially with the charge what do you think it would be do you have anything booming in the mind right now I mean it's pretty easy yeah I think it'll be fun to see what the fans do with that I think there it's going to be loud in there it was already loud but I think with this name it just embodies that um probably bringing back our our o clap at the end of games um I don't know it's going to be fun I think it's it I don't if you have to reinvent the wheel with a chant though it's a pretty good one out there for us oh it's a classic everyone loves it okay and last do you have anything else uh you want to say to charge fans just counting down the days um we're working really hard in the offseason so we can hit the ground running and we're just so excited to see everyone at TD Place awesome best of luck and good luck
