Can Tennessee Vols MAKE The College Football Playoff In 2024? | Josh Heupel, Nico Iamaleava BIG 2024

Intro Tennessee they have the 14th best odds to make the college football playoff they're at plus 195 for those of you'all that watched this show one thank you we appreciate that but for those of youall that don't like I'm very openly high on Tennessee there's a lot that I love about Tennessee Tennessee fans we've had so many of y'all subscribed to the channel over the course of the last few this Josh hyp offense is humming they have a large quantity of weapons didn't have it last year they have it this year Brew McCoy I mean you say your prayers at night you hope he stays healthy coming back from injury squirrel white Chris Brazzle is an absolute dog for them on the perimeter transferring in from to Lane we saw him in Spring practice yall going to see him this fall he's a dude Dante Thorton sounds like he's really turned in the corner Mike Matthews there's a lot to be excited about when it comes to their weapons downfield I love the progress on defense secondary still some things baking I've said it before they feel really good about their defensive line depth you got depth on the D line in the SEC like okay you got the ticket to ride that's massive I love the offensive scheme something that in in the in the history of college football we haven't seen an offense like this win a National Championship don't be surprised if Josh Hy and this squad are the team to do it I don't know if it's necessarily this year it could be but I'm just saying if the way that Josh hpel is recruiting right now at Tennessee which is a whole separate video that we've done before they they could be the team that does it because Competitive tenor they're going to run the football they're going to spread you out they're going to put your box in a bind when it comes to how many Defenders you can commit to the run and like I just said they have weapons downfield to hurt you now I haven't even talked about the quarterback yet which we will in a little bit but I love the competitive tenor of this team and what I mean by that is Josh Hy whenever you hear him in an interview or whenever you see footage of him at practice or him on the sideline like that dude doesn't Flinch now like if you were to take his pulse you're like oh my gosh is this guy this guy alive right now his his pulse is is not getting above like the average human being I think that's who he is and I think that's who this team is I think this is a team that again assuming they are taking on the Persona of their leadership which now for Josh hyp how long he's been in Knoxville that should be the case and we saw it I mean several years ago when they beat Alabama like this is not a team that I think the moment will ever be too big for you see a lot of that in nicoo alavu with how he carries himself if you don't Flinch now the moment's not too big for you it comes back to your talent comes back to your execution and I think Tennessee will have enough of that to potentially be in the college football playoff but why do we Define them as a bubble team similar to Michigan their over under win total is at 8 and a half I've said it many times 10 and two is the price of admission to be in the college football playoff conversation in the SEC you go 10 and two you're in no other questions you are in all right unless there's some unforeseen Log Jam you should feel pretty good about your chances now there's two games for Tennessee on this schedule that you Circle and you say okay from a talent perspective we might be at a deficit that's the game against Georgia it's the game against Alabama so if you are going to just do the whole win loss win loss win loss thing as we do on this platform those are the two games you say okay maybe we drop those so if you have those two losses already Nico Iamaleava on the board and again not saying you have to I'm just saying for the sake of this exercise if you're going to call the two Talent deficits losses can you avoid another stubbed toe scenario so like the game against NC State early you got to win that one at Oklahoma early got to win that one Kentucky there's a lot of opportunities to say okay if we don't bring our best to the table anything can happen that's the beauty of college football but overall now from a talent level across the board there's no game on the schedule that I see for Tennessee where it's like that one worries me outside of Georgia and Alabama so here's the big talking point and this is something we we've said a lot but what you believe about Nico malava his first year as a starting quarterback and his ceiling is the same belief that you tie to this ten football team in their ceiling like it's a quarterback Centric system yes they want to run the football but you are only going to go as far in this Josh Hy scheme as your quarterback allows you to go to be honest now I don't have a lot of questions about if ncoo yamal yava can play or if he's going to be good y' he's going to be good that's not the question that we should be asking the question we should be asking is when does he have it all work together for him when does he actually hit his stride and become the version of what he was as a recruit at the colle level I think last year him getting to red shirt was absolutely huge it's going to benefit him a lot this season and we'll see that in a big way but is he playing at the level that he expects to play at this team expects him and needs him to play at like week two against NC State or is it like November 2nd against Kentucky because if it's not till November when everything starts clicking for him Tennessee more than likely will'll have a few too many losses to be in the college football playoff if he's that guy from week two I don't see a game where they can just mark up and say okay that's a loss and again we're putting a lot into this right now before even seeing him start a full season I understand that y'all he's that good he's that good and in college football man if you have a quarterback who is that good that can be all the difference for you that that that can change the entire complexion of what you accomplish throughout the course of your season and so since we got to see him during spring football seeing the way that he operates y'all potentially most importantly the way that he moves he is a a really good athlete we saw some of that in the bowl game you're going to see that I think a lot this season too with how he adlibs and guys have more time to get open downfield kind of like we saw with hen and hooker I think Tennessee's got a very very good chance to go to the college football playoff like if you've seen my playoff predictions Tennessee by definition is on the bubble right now I think they're going to be a playoff team in large part and probably most importantly because of what I believe about Niko IM malava and the this roster so Tennessee playoff bubble team yeah for now I think they'll be a playoff team uh the hard count has
