uh Woodward Sports J MO is on the big screen right now getting interviewed we're going to get into what his game was all about tonight we're going to get into what Jared goff's game was about tonight Aiden Hutchinson Matthew Stafford I mean the last time we saw the Rams in Detroit is like the same time we saw the Rams in Detroit tonight they leaving with their tail between their legs and a foot in their ass there's a lot to get into tonight and this just felt so similar run it down to the end send that boy back to Georgia with a loss baby it felt so damn good and I got to say at halftime I told so many people the way the lions were playing the way that everything was unfolding in the past I would have said this is a this is a loss but what we have now this new look Lions team yes sir nobody started this second half here at hay social nobody at fordfield none of the Lions fans Across the Nation and the world were in doubt when we started this second half the the confidence and just the undying faith in this team it's so damn real stick it it is real but I also I'm not going to let the [ __ ] ass slide either about halfway through that fourth quarter it was oh Jared gof Stafford is a much better quarterback than Jared G Can't You See oh where's all the golf lovers now oh this team going to the playoffs ha oh you know and I had I had my lost speech prepared like I was I I was already going to try to tone down the crowd I was already going to try to peel back from Lost speech I had a lost speech well I just had that sounds like some [ __ ] I do well listen all I was going to say is Kansas City Chiefs what happened to their first game last year they lost to us we're going to be okay Detroit but you know what I didn't have to calm down the kids but the idiots that were in our watch party chat doubting Jared Goff doubting the Detroit Lions you're the same ones that were doubting them last year against the Bears when they came back too and you're the same ones that I just don't have time for because you're new here you don't know like Anon when when it when the game was tight when the Lions were losing what did I turn and say to you it's a w I missed this oh yeah I miss I I live for those moments like I want it to be a close game I want there to be a mountain de climb and because what it does is it separates who's the dogs who's the Dan Campbell guys and who's the rest and we show we saw a lot of the rest in the chat earlier today I'm sure a lot of you jumped off the bandwagon for everybody who stayed you know who you are you know what's up and we appreciate you for sticking by the Lions because it's going to be a bumpy ride they're going to lose games this year Anson but not tonight no not against that [ __ ] not against Matthew Stafford you can't lose against Matthew Stafford oh his last game in forward field looked a lot like almost every damn game in forward field not being able to get it done that's right oh god it feels so good I'm so happy that Kelly Stafford changed her mind and decided to be at for field for that because when it started that second half we were up four what 14 to3 or 17 to three and it was kind of antil climatic I wanted that cardiac kids to come back that's what we dealt with all last year and the year before and I know that as lions fans it's nerve-wracking because the expectations for this team this season they're on a whole different level never had them but like you said this isn't going to be easy there's 17 games and then maybe 18 19 maybe even 20 just to get to the Super Bowl a lot of bounces got to go your way but what we saw was a out of this team was a word that we said a lot last year and it was resiliency this team does not get down even when they're down in the score their emotions their mind they don't lose it this team is just Cut From a Different Cloth than anything else what we've seen in Detroit and the great part about as tight as and nerve-wracking as this game I mean we had we had one of the fine servers here at hay social walk back past us like six times over the last two minutes of regular and over the old team she's like this is so stressful every time she walk this so stressful but you know what lions fans you guys have waited your whole lives for stressful meaningful games and stick here we are right we are right and that's why I'm going to enjoy it I'm going to enjoy every second of this game even the agonizing Parts because this is a privilege everybody this is a privilege Detroit we've waited our whole lives to do this like I said when we started the show Anon and I have been doing the postgame show on Woodward Sports uh Forever This is technically our fifth season of Lions football cuz what we start like week 11 y yeah I guess I guess so so we've been through it all together on these postgame shows Tucker at first it was about like just Keeping the Faith right okay you know like we're riding the ship the Lions will be okay like I I'm known as a lion Slappy but now it's legit it's real and what we saw tonight was just more of what we know about Dan Campbell in the culture of the brand new Lions so Falls there lets Matthew Stafford get his fourth quarter comeback so everybody can crown him and say how great he is brand new Lions shut that door and not only do they shut the door they punch you in the mouth all the way down the field in overtime just handing the ball off and you know what that is that's your o line that's the Battle of attrition that's beating your opponent for four straight quarters to the point where they're submitting to your will whenever you want to hand the ball off to Montgomery and then you see Montgomery blasting through tackles and then you see the offensive line get behind him and push him down the Y Line like we call that the Dan Campbell formula it's just so poetic like that's how you win this game and that's exactly the mentality that the Detroit Lions have to have and you know we can say what we want about the defense too 20 points isn't bad to let up to the Rams if I would have told you before the game that they the Rams wouldn't even score three touchdowns you would have taken that absolutely and and let's look at the defense today the defense made big plays when they were called upon at the end of the first half you've got a Rams team that's making a drive they're ready to put some points up at the end and no not only are we not going to just hold him to three we get a takeaway yep and so what we're seeing out of this team is making big plays in big moments this Lions team is the Absolut 180 of every other Lions team I've ever ever known this type of situation you put together a nice game on the road you put a nice game together at home either way when it comes down to it it's the other team that was running it down our throats winning in overtime and now as lions fans we are not shaking we understand that this team their Moxy their grit their composure when the ball is on the line the game is on the line the clock is ready to die hey they talked a lot about Stafford's come from behind victories but how many does he have at Ford Field in the last three years well you know got zero yeah but I'll tell you what when you look at Jared gof my biggest Jared G Jared G Jared you and I were on the same plane when it came quar we talked about this guy being an actual asset when we brought him here Elite but one of the things I really thought that I would always miss was that last minute heroics of a Matt Stafford and even though it never never turned into playoff wins that guy led a lot of last minute come from behind victories but Jared gof has not been short on cardiac cat moments like we just watched and listen I'm not going to hand the overtime to him um let's see Spenny does that work because literally all he did was what JJ McCarthy did last year to win a National Championship just hand it to Blake corm 57 times I just were watching in the first half there was a point where I I turned to Justin I was like and they're using every single piece right now they didn't use Aman ra St Brown a lot but it was Gibbs to the outside Monty up the middle little drop off to leaport deep ball to J like it's just it it's video game [ __ ] that Ben Johnson gets to do in real life and J Mo's speed it was unbelievable again like we saw it in the NFC championship game last year but him going across and just a cornerback trying to keep up with him and him just like trotting out of bounds he looked like Tyreek Hill is in my opinion obviously a much skinnier lankier runnier Tyreek Hill he looked like the best athlete on the field he looked like the best player on the field in this game 134 allpurpose yards and a touchdown the dude was Unstoppable when he touched the ball he made the Rams best cornerback in travius white which isn't saying much travius White's cook but he made him forget that he was playing for the Rams the dude thought he was in Buffalo still cuz J Mo made him look silly out there I've seen this at camp this year you hear it you hear the Rumblings but with this regime it's different when you hear it from the inside like last year who did you hear about all Camp making plays every day Brian Branch Brian branch has blown up everything in Camp he comes into his rookie a he goes crazy this year it's half to a team like that just like what they did in the NFC Championship we would have started to talk about a trend right and the haters would have been like well they can't hold on to a lead and next thing you know that little Bugaboo starts it's just an earworm and all of a sudden it's it's real right and that's probably my old Lions PS PTSD kicking in but it it's just I'm glad that didn't happen like they blew the 14-point lead but then they wred the ship and punched them Square in the mouth in overtime you love it you love it Jake Bates Jake Bates kicked the field goal to get him there perfect game for Jake Bates yeah two many weapons not enough defense and after we watched the Kansas City game everybody's talking about Xavier worthy right seeing him take an end around seeing him take same play get exactly a play that was stolen from the NFC Championship from Ben Johnson's set of offense here you see a guy that goes and and and gets lost in the secondary catches a big bomb turns that that that end around and now you talk about that with with Jameson that's what we had last year yep but the big thing and we've talked about this at nauseum at Woodward this guy isn't just a gimmick player this isn't guy just a guy that you scheme into screens and Ender rounds and we saw that today while our number one went three for 13 this guy wasn't just used in isolation place this guy was used downfield as a possession chain moving big play receiver and if this is who we really have now the guy that so many people have been crying about and pining over the draft Capital that was spent on him we can't move up this far in the first round to get a guy that doesn't contribute as a number one wide receiver on Friday brillan said this guy was drafted to be a number one and what we saw at Jameson the routes he ran the game he played the effect he had on this W was the number one wide receiver because our number one wide receiver took a back seat but he won't next week yeah he didn't take a back seat though he did his job and occupied double coverage he occupied what he needed to do like that's that's the thing and this is where the flannel Sams of the world will look at this is a failure for Alan R st Brown and it's like no even though he didn't put up the stats you want he was a part of the game plan and and and rest in peace to flannel Sam and easy this weekend both them were punching air all weekend long finel Sam started with the Michigan game now it started with to those guys let's not get into that you crazy Spartans you guys didn't beat a damn thing so of getting a little not as much praise as he should for the Lions win is Carlton Davis Carlton Davis if he would interception at the end he would have been player of the game by far throughout the entire game he was staying attached to pukaa he was up there making tackles at the line of scrimmage the number one we've never had yeah yeah he he wasn't cam Sutton out there getting burnt relentlessly he wasn't Jeff okuda out there getting burnt and thrown around he was making plays and staying attached to receiver all four corners actually had a good game or a good moment today like a had a good moment Carlton Davis pretty good game terion Arnold for a rookie coming in not a bad game the pass interference that was called on him like they said on the it was probably not going to be called they didn't call that on me in Alabama you know like that's what they said but and one guy we haven't talked about that changed the momentum of this entire game when it looked like they were going into halftime and tying it up Kirby effing Joseph Matthew Stafford runs his mouth just like his wife and talks about Kirby Joseph is a dirty player what was dirty about that pick Maddie was it your arm angle that was so special your sidearm interception that you love to throw in crunch time like this this is the Matthew that's the Matthew Stafford I remember in the Honolulu blue when we're close he's going to mess up Matthew Stafford going to go Matt Stafford and that's what he did dropped his arm down and threw it right to Kirby Jo Kirby Joseph I mean say what a leader of this team and just a d but I want to blame Matt Stafford less and point more towards what the Lions did at the end of the first half because that was the sign of a great team when you have a owned an entire first half and you open up the door and you allow a team to come down and even just put up three points or a touchdown but no not we're not satisfied just holding them to three we're taking the rock being able to force a turnover at that moment that's the stuff we've never seen lion team do that's the stuff that we've seen break our heart and break our backs after a great Sunday where we thought we had a w and it gets taken from us they left the door open and then they shut it on them and seeing Kirby come up with that that kind of a turnover after he was called out by Matt Stafford that is the consistently you should beat these guys there because I grew up watching the Red Wings every day of my entire life when they were on so I I love this it's definitely Uncharted with the Lions but I love it I'm comfortable here because I believe in this team I believe in the people building this team the people backing this team and that's why I feel bad for teams like Carolina cuz Carolina will and the other is a white dbe with long blonde hair flying around making plays and that's what anzelone was tonight so who else stood out for you today defensively Spen I thought Levi own zarque looked really good first day as Star first game as the starter had the sack had a couple plays where he was in on Stafford again him and okay sorry this should have been the first Marcus Davenport was everywhere healthy big dude healthy I saw a stat before the game too about Davenport like he was second to Aiden Hutchinson in pressures per snaps when he was healthy so I mean those two together you saw Aiden Hutchinson was damn near unblockable tonight and he didn't get the sacks he he muff that one sack when he had few penties he had his own damn arm around yeah that that left tackle for the the Rams just could not handle the smoke from Aiden Hutchinson and they were four offensive linemen down today they lost one during the game two other were hurt coming in and and a fourth lost to suspension beforehand but the fact is is the Lions regardless of what you want to say about the Rams and who they brought in the lions were resilient let me read some of these texts real quick with like 4 minutes and 10 seconds and they couldn't complete the job you know why they couldn't run the ball they had an absolute opportunity to reverse the script exactly what happened here in Detroit at the playoffs at the end of last season they were put in a position just get first downs and put these guys out of business they couldn't do that all we had to do in the second in the overtime was win win a coin toss at that point right the fact that we've got two different running backs that can do such different things but you have a short and long passing attack that I mean one turnover today and this is against a very opportunistic defense they don't have Aaron Donald but what we were able to do in those four minutes like you said that four minute offense this team has everything that you could ask for that you need from a team to win in those last four two minutes whatever it is the end of a game overtime this Lions team is so ready they are ready to take this next step we saw it today and honestly I just don't think that anybody that's watching right now or anybody was sitting at home in the state of Michigan was really that worried in our whole lives this was the type of game that you like we're going to lose we're going to lose y we're going to lose the last two years coming into this year seeing what we did to these guys last time I'd never lost faith and that's the type of mentality you're going to have to have this year I mean and there's going to be games they're going to lose I'm just glad it wasn't week one and the sky is falling and the Chicken Little you know the brand new money Lions fans that I was calling them last year that like didn't understand that you have to go through the growing pains in order to get to where you want to be and tonight was just tonight was just a bump in the road like it's a big deal today but in 3 weeks it won't matter they took care of business at home they did their job and they're moving on to the next game and that's what these guys are going to do all season long but the buildup the hype the pressure for this game I don't see another game on their schedule that has the Pomp and Circumstance that opening night Sunday night football against Matthew Stafford the emotional implications of this game no one wants to see Matt Stafford ever win another game at Ford Field hello and to be able to start off a season with a loss to that guy at home after we handled business in the playoffs last year no Lions fan wanted to start the season off with that kind of an emotional downturn instead we get the win over this guy we don't have to hear about what Kelly Stafford has to stay we don't have to hear anything about his retribution game we controlled the narrative today yeah and and it's going to be that nationally too that's the other thing that's great about this we get to turn on the TV tomorrow and not hear about Matthew Stafford and his [ __ ] sidearm I even turn my TV on like the fact that like the ghost of Matthew Stafford has not only been taken out to the woods but they have chopped up the body burnt it dogs have pissed on it and we've buried it like that the old Matthew Stafford is better than golf narrative should be put to bed because the last two times they played head-to-head one in the playoffs and one at the first game of the season guess who won guess who was the winning quarterback and I don't care about Matthew and all his great talent the dude can't get it done when he needs to especially when there's any Honolulu blue involved at all that's right I saw it for 12 [ __ ] years I've seen it the past 2 years this is what I want out of my football team to take these challenges and to just continue to curb stomp people along the way and God I overtime and we didn't have to ask him to win the game for us but we certainly needed him to get to overtime and that was something that we have lacked the last two years and it's something that I know you guys at home have worried about so I'm curious stick did Jake Bates win your confidence today he won my confidence in preseason oh he did when he knocked down two 50 yard field goals and one of them was outdoors in weather didn't bother you when he missed the extra point no I mean that's going to happen every now and then it didn't bother it didn't bother Dan because he came to him twice today but listen did it bother me enough to like pick Badgley like no come on this this this wasn't like oh do I get Justin Tucker or Bates it was Badgley or Bates the guy that's been knocking through training regiment yeah pays off late in games early in the season and what the Rams did apparently did not because they were battling all game until it got you know and that's what they say there's shape and then there's football sh there you go who was gas in that overtime exactly their defense the Rams defense was backpedaling it it was almost as if all right you know what David Montgomery go get a little bit of a rest when that overtime hit and he stepped out there on the field from the very first play you knew the Rams are not going to be able to contain him at all and in the offensive line I mean just the way they were reestablishing that line of scrimmage like when they were going for a first down I think it was like third and one before he even handed the ball off you knew he was going to get a yard cuz the [ __ ] line of scrimmage was five yards down the field but but honestly this was a rough game for that offensive line up until in my opinion that off that that overtime I thought the first quarter David Montgomery and that offensive line they work as the Lions kind of went away from that and they found some success in some other places like J Mo absolutely had a big game Sam leap Porter was a Target that jarro go was able to find a couple times but when they kind of got stagnant it was because David Montgomery was nowhere to be found but ultimately with this team to know that you have a bread and butter to know that you have something that you can rely on and that can work like this team was down they had to make a drive to tie things up and then then they had to make a drive to go and win the game and make sure Matthew Stafford does not get another opportunity yeah and honestly I the coin flip was everything and who won the coin flip did you see how epic it was oh yeah can we talk about that like you know the fact that that the script writers in the NFL just keep knocking it out the park they know what they're doing they know what they're doing Jared Mayfield's fine but that's the problem with Matthew Stafford he he was never the guy in press conferences here either he never said what I wanted to hear out of a leader ever once and that was always one of my biggest [ __ ] it was always the same recorded response it was yeah you know we we didn't play well we got to address that in practice every week just put it on record never this is unacceptable I'm a winner this locker room is full of winners we got to be more accountable there was never any of and maybe it happened behind closed doors and I'm not privy to that but it it didn't happen in my eyes did you know what I've been hearing from Matthew Stafford all summer complaining complaining about the guy who picked him off tonight y That's all I heard hey even so no no check so much about curbs that he picked you off again Y and that's that's the problem and for everybody that was in the chat earlier saying AG was washed sorry I don't know you you let up 20 points to the Rams you're not washed that's a hell of a defensive battle how many interceptions were dropped oh my God that's what I'm saying they could have ended this game they could have put themselves in some positions earlier in this game that's what's so exciting about this young defense is they just held the Rams to 20 points in a game it was their first time ever playing as a complete unit and it's only going to get better from here they're only going to get more gangster from here for real it's it's only they're only going to hit harder more gangster dog hold on David Montgomery right there was locker room I like what they're doing I like what Dan Campbell is preaching I like the types of players that they identify to come here and you know what people thought that David Montgomery was done and now last year he proved it he still got it in this year he's starting off with a bang and when you got a back like jir Gibbs that he can split the the back field with you know what would it be nice to see him go out there and get a 130 rushing yards and and and jir Gibbs go out there and get like 100 All Purpose yeah but if I know that you know what I can keep this guy fresh as long as I we saw these people these Detroit fans and the entire NFL focus in on Ford Field in the playoffs for not one but two games last year now we fell just a little bit short obviously out in San Francisco but what we saw today now Sam you were downtown early you were setting up over there at second best bar then you were up here but when I came downtown what I saw wasn't just something that everybody waited for okay are we a playoff team we are all let's go we'll go have a good time this is week one right and we've been talking at Woodward Sports for the last couple months about this being the most anticipated season in Detroit sports history but we watched it manifest today my friend yeah uh but I do want to follow that up with this is week one well sure there's a long long but the thing is is everyone's bought in I I understand but remember but no no yeah I understand but remember last year week one Lions rolled into Kansas City ruined the Super Bowl ring parade and what happened week two Anon Seattle rolled in the for field behind the stage I'm not talking about results I'm talking about entire city that isn't just hoping I get it there's confidence now here's what I'm trying to tell you there's confidence and there's overconfidence and you you got to learn from the lessons that you went through last year winning game one is very nice but it doesn't mean [ __ ] if you lay a goose egg in game two so this is now nice you have 24 hours to celebrate this that's what this postgame show is all about celebrating this but what I do not want to happen is a week from now we're discussing well the lions are one in one they got a little too full of themselves like they did with Seattle last year Well you that [ __ ] can't happen this year thing that I was most worried about though won't this was a game that wouldn't just make us 0 and one if we lost it but this was a game that emotionally detroiters couldn't handle no one wanted to watch Stafford leave here with the w nobody wanted to see us backtrack and lose to a team that we were able to Edge in the playoffs God and so now not only did everyone come in because honestly never in my lifetime have I felt true Confidence from my fellow Detroit Lions fans like I felt all summer like I felt all week and like I watch manifest downtown with every Detroit fan that I pass so my thing is this needs to continue even when we have some losses because we're not going 17 and0 I'd love to see it but we're not going 17 and0 if this team continues to or this city continues to support the team the way that we have I think that it's it's two sides of the same sharp ass sword when we are pushing behind them they're going to play better when they play like this we are all in and what I've seen out of Detroit fans the Lions fan base over this last four five six months in anticipation of today and then the manifestation of the win that we had today I am so excited not just for this season but for the future of the Detroit Lions franchise and all of you loyal fans at home that have been following for the last three years been last for the last 13 years for the last 30 plus years you guys deserve this I know I do I know you do I know you and I love every minute of it this guy sweats blue Kool-Aid man oh God these games are so stressful it's amazing like he did say that to me man I miss this I do I do I live for this and you know like even when they sucked I'd sit there like hoping okay they're only down 14 there's four minutes left to go if they get a stop here now it's like oh my God like no they're going to get a stop here oh if you give the Lions the ball back with two minutes left you're not going to stop us we're at least going to tie the game b b boom here we are every fan base should have fans as loyal as you bro yeah well uh it's a it's a it's an Unholy existence but we're finally here and uh thank God the lions are paying off and thank you fans for being a part of this I
