this is the first Woodward and Maine Detroit Lions show and let me throw out the parameters for people because I thought last year we last year the first time we did the show but it was kind of confusing we just kind of showed up whenever here's the deal me and the Lefty are going to be here every lian's game day at 8:00 a.m. 8 if it's on a Sunday unless they play Monday night or Thursday night then we're going to be on at 700 a.m. here on Woodward Sports yes and the YouTube channel but um that's going to be our pregame show we're going to have a show before we're yeah we're we're going to talk about the liines before everybody else yes and then we're also going to talk about the game before everybody else tomorrow morning at 7: a.m. and then the day after we're coming back let you know the great things the Lions did and the crappy things they did so that's the way we're going to be game day and the day after early in the morning before you had your breakfast let going me me and the Lefty let's go Terry I'm pumped to do the show with you I'm pumped to host the show I'm I'm excited to now I must make fun of you come on now here's the other staple of this show Matthew here is Mr optimistic he will pick the Lions to win every game this season I want to warn you about that I don't know what you're talking about Terry uh he'll say the lions are going to be on the road against Kansas City with Nate SF at quarterback and this man will get on there and say hey you know what T Oh I thought Nate Sefi looked really good in practice this week uh the lions are going to beat Kansas City did you see him hold the clipboard before they released him he an elite clipboard holder all right and we're going to have another staple on this show [ __ ] please that that the the segment's going to debut tomorrow right but I think people are going to realize today pretty soon how off the rails might get right this isn't going to be your normal lion show this isn't going to be your normal pregame Woodward Sports professional talk about we're we're going to get into some topics Terry right and here's the first one I know people don't want to hear this but but I am going to tell you there's one more hurdle one final hurdle for the Lions to clear one same old Lions wait you still think that's out there it's one hurdle and here's the deal and and the lions are going to clear that hurdle because this is a different organization but um the Lions can't go 8 and9 or s- 10 this season because that has been their history 1991 last time the Lions made the NC NFC Championship game yeah which they did last year they finished 12 and4 okay went to the NFC China uh title game got their asses handed to them by the Washington Redskins and I was at that game by the way you that game I was at the game okay I'm going to I'm going to ask you about that the year after you know there was Super Bowl talk oh the lions are good they're right there one step away what do they do the next year finish 5 and 11 all right 1993 finished 10 and six and uh so they went to the playoffs lost in the playoffs and they figur okay they're going to be pretty good the next year they had a lackluster 9 and seven but they had to Rally just to get to 9 and seven 75 they finished 10- six uh they got got blasted by Philadelphia in the uh I don't care in in the playoffs Terry this was this was 30 years ago hang on okay okay but once again you've got to understand your history true to overcome your history the next year they finished 5 and 11 so with that said the final hurdle is for the Lions to be serious about their play yeah serious about everything and to get into the playoffs again make a playoff run and possibly go to the Super Bowl that's the final hurdle see I think it's dead already Terry I think it it's it's buried it is 6 feet under already I and I I I get what you're saying they still have to prove that they can do they they can perform at an elite level be one of the top teams in the NFL for back-to-back years but we're talking about 30 40 5050 years ago and that that whole that whole mindset is gone I think it's gone from the fans I think it's gone from the teams I think once Sheila Ford Hamp took over and changed her name to Sheila Ford Hamp that was no no she changed her name to Sheila Hamp Sheil rid of the Ford that was the moment that was the moment settle down young fell no I see I'm I'm starting optimistic it's gone it's gone okay I'm actually going to agree with you that it is gone here's why there's a brad Holmes yeah Dan Campbell Sheila Hamp they have a different mindset different attitude it's a real organization yeah the lions were not a real organization from the 50s on and then um Sheila Hamp did something her dad didn't do she came in took over and didn't say you know what I'm the smartest person in the room I will hire Brad Holmes I will hire Dan C but on the lowdown I will tell them what to do at times she didn't do that no that's what her dad did she smart enough to put the smart people around her to to to make those decisions that she doesn't feel uh um how about this she's smart enough to know she's not smart enough to run a team yes and you we talk about Dan Campbell one of those hires that's Dan Campbell and had coach for him he knows where his weaknesses are or he knows where he needs to put his time and energy at the beginning of this rebuild or this restor whatever we want to call it Dan Campbell brought in or or had the had the foresight to move on from Anthony Lynn to move on from some coaches that he started with for uh Ben Johnson uh for Terrell Williams this year Dan Campbell Brad Holmes Sheila Hamp it's going the history route Terry can we say they're they're the three best at what they do for the Lions organization in Lions history the best owner the best GM and the best head coach already 3 years in yeah because even when the Lions made the playoffs under Wayne font players on the Downlow grumbled that he wasn't the right coach for this team really yeah that they won because of their talent CU a Barry Sanders well Barry Sanders pretty good pretty good little running back yeah yeah he was all right so yeah but um you know once again uh last year before the season began I said I was arguing people I said okay the lions are a real organization they've never been a real organization they've always done done things they've always pissed off their players they always just pissed off the fan base but now I mean they're for real they're for real Dan and you know let me make a confession right here confession and a guy that we make fun of Rod Woods who is the president saw something in Dan Campbell that I would not have seen during the interview process I would not have hired Dan Campbell to be the head coach of the Lions really because he was too out there he was too crazy and I would said nah I'm giving a thumbs down on that but they saw something that I would not have seen so he's the thing that he's done is and I've always said the Lions need this they didn't need a great ex and O's guy the Lions needed a great motivator and that's what they've got they got arguably already the best in the NFL at at being a motivator a leader of men and he's put the right guys around before we get into the next topic or continue this conversation got to say hi to Pete introduce Pete in the TD Booth Pete a how you doing and B is sold dead are you with me or do you think they still have another hurdle to prove also great shirt uh well yeah got to dead I think BNL is Alive and Well I think that what Terry is delivering a veterans warning to the fan base out there to not get ah Matt I I think we should you know Terry is has been around Detroit for a while he knows he knows what's going on and he's just delivering a polite warning to the fan base that we should not get ahead of ourselves and Matt I think that the Lions have definitely crossed over but we still need to be careful of that the tractor beam that's what I was trying to think of in Star Wars that tractor beam could pull you back in that's what I'm afraid of but I don't think that they're going to do that they have the great front office they have the great head co is Al so telling you they've moved on and Terry what happened I'm just simply saying that they have this history and this the last hurdle they need to overcome and what happened on the day that uh Willam Clay Ford purchased the Lions do you remember mhm I'm just not I'm not here I I don't want to get caught up with with what the guys are buying I mean you you never know who's swimming n till the tide goes out so it's it's I'm just I'm just looking forward I'm looking forward I'm and I'm ready to go and you talked about the past franchises past general man they don't know how to keep their players happy they don't know how to take care of their own they make poor decisions some of the biggest decisions this off season and I want to ask you about the face of the franchise but Brad Holmes Dan Campbell and this Lions team decided to pay Jared G Alan Ros Brown and and Pen Su two of which were a year early than when they're du up for a contract and you know why that was significant why because we go back let's go back to the same old Lions yeah same old Lions would not have paid them same old Lions would have negotiate and say ah now you want too much money we're not going to give it to you and what happened is that would filter into the locker room players would be they would Grumble I mean if you were walking around and Jared G and pine Su and am man R st Brown a bitching about their contract guess what other players going to look at this and say man these are three of our big guys and they're not taking care of them the Lions would not achieve as much as they're going to this year right this is now those players veterans and younger players getting drafted they see what Aman rain Brown did to get paid become one of the highest paid receivers in the league like how motivating is that as a rookie as a second-year player as a free agent coming in knowing hey if I come in and I work and I do what they tell me and we're successful I'm getting that back Terry right and because of that we still going to see jar I mean uh Aman ra doing this The Jug machine 202 yep he's even got a commercial on that so he still going to do his thing panul is still going to be pissed off about losing to San Francisco and jerck gof is still going to be good enough for Detroit yeah because they had the foresight to pay them which is very very significant and they're the foundation those at least Penny and I'm ring Brown and for now Jared G is part of part of the core but the foundation is pen Su and I'm R Brown Hutchinson Al mcneel now terion Arnold we like coming in if we're going to take Dan Campbell out of the equation Terry who's your face of this franchise I want we're going to get into the Rams game but we got to paint a picture of what this organization has turned into who's the face the face of the Detroit Lions right now to me it's Aiden Hutchinson really yeah although now I'm starting to change my mind don't don't give me who you who's number two I want I want to see if it might be similar to me but it's SN we don't think aik okay yeah Fair who why Aiden Hutchinson before I give you mine well a um he's local B he played at Michigan three people like him four he's going to be very very very productive oh yeah and um and when you look they they already put a billboard up of him on downtown was that the one they covered the whale or was it on a different building he covered the whale you can't cover the whale well the whale's gone bro but they did it with no no no it was the whale then they had the little stupid little dot figures smiling like hey welcome to downtown Detroit now they have like a a QR code you can scan that like it takes you to a save the whales charity Hut is a good one and they just named him captain in year three I think he's going to have a monster year and I don't hate that choice but I don't know to me to me it was between two offensive players and I'm going with pen I'm going with the very first draft pick of this new regime Brad Holmes Dan Campbell Sheila Hamp who was their very first pick it was pen Su it was pen Su and he he Define he's the best player on the best unit on this team and in the NFL that offensive line which I believe is the identity of this team and he's the best of the best it is but offensive lineman are not sexy no they aren't but pen is different like pen is bringing sexy back to the big boys like he's making offensive line be put in that sexy category we're going to be start talking about defensive lineman in that same category Terry I know how much you love the big butts pan Su in that offensive line they got to stop those guys you got and you know P Su has a big butt and guess what else has a really big head huge it's like an anvil you want to see that head coming down on a pole route with jir Gibbs run or David Montgomery you see pen Su coming I'm getting out of the way if I'm a cornerback Terry another thing pan is a little bit crazy too psycho yeah what did he do uh uh a game one against the Los Angeles Rams his rookie year Aaron Donald got in his face right and he didn't back down no so I don't care if you Aaron Donald I'll beat your ass yeah he said step to this and get shanked up mhm you know now 3 years later pen tul pen tul pen pen Su he's knocking out so many teeth that he's making the Tooth Fairy go bankrupt shout out big L now I was in the locker room last year and I asked guys is a little [ __ ] question about if you let's say that professional wrestling was real who would you want your tag team partner to be oh you you ask the offensive lineman this did they all say pen most said pen okay others said Jonah Jackson we're going to talk about him right so he's going to be playing he's going to be playing center tonight mhm cuz the Ford Field is going to be really really loud which is great he's had a good you know four and a half practices at center before going up against Al mcneel in this defensive line well I think they're more worried about him forgetting to snap the ball or something stupid like that and and offsides penalties so uh that's why he's going to be playing Center he played a little bit of Center in in college at ruer before he transferred to Ohio State but Jonah Jackson that was what many thought was a lot like a a significant loss this offseason for the Lions I thought it was a good signing for the Rams he has been hurt he was he had a few years where he was hurt here in Detroit but they went and replaced him with Kevin zeitler a veteran on a one-year deal but this is a veteran they basically instead of paying him $51 million they want the cheap route but as reliable as a route is to protect Jared G the key to this all this entire lion season it's that offensive line and it's protecting Jared G right am I am I wrong and one one more example why this is no longer same old Lions the old Lions would have said okay we lost uh Jonah Jackson Jonah Jackson so we're just going to go without a guard we we'll play a fourman front promote uh a coyote AA no they no they promote like Ben Smith uh who's standing line at McDonald's that's what they would yeah go ahead play Guard we're going to save some money and boom and then Jared G will be dead in three games dead dead but no he's not because he gets to play behind the top offensive line and you know Terry Everyone likes to talk about their quarterbacks these days they got to have legs they got to have wheels you know to be elite you have to be able to not only scramble but Juke out a quarterback truck a safety and get five extra yards after the catch to be considered in the elite category which I like but you don't have to do it right but but as we've seen over and over again yeah that's a weapon that that's part of what can make a quarterback successful it also sets him up for injury Jared gof he plays every single game because he sits behind that offensive line he dips and he dunks he does it's not flashy but he makes the right call this is why Terry I don't know if you feel the same way I'm so sick of these quarterback rankings really I'm sick of Jared G being disrespected and I I get a lot of the arguments when you're ranking who's the better quarterback the criteria for what you're deciding depending on what criteria you're using it it it varies he's not flashy he doesn't have the biggest arm in the NFL he can't run but we keep putting these kids who haven't proven anything but they run a four five keep putting these kids ahead of Jared G I'm sick of it Terry here here's what I do and you know we have the kids here woodwood Sports here and they they get on my nerves it's like oh so so had oh you know what um no that's oh so so had four good games he's let's put yeah let's put him in the Hall of Fame I'm like guys four good games Jordan love had a half a good season and you going to promote him ahead of Jared G yeah who's won Playoff games who's been to a Super Bowl went to an NFC Championship game uh with two different teams mhm with two different right this is a societal thing it is T I don't know if you knew Jared gof is one of only five quarterbacks to do that go to the NFC championship game go to the conf excuse me yeah the conference Championship game with two different teams we're talking Jared G Tom Brady Payton Manning Brett Favre and Kurt Warner and I still hear the guy sucks yeah which is not true yeah um I don't care that he gets disrespect I really don't that's not my concern neither does he but what I'm tired of hearing is is oh let's uh he's not a top 10 quarterback or he's not top 15 quarterback that doesn't matter to me with this team in this system on the money all Jared G has to be is the best quarterback for the Detroit Lions which he is yeah he is this team Jared goth is the perfect quarterback for this team right they partially design the offense for him to feed into his strength they've drafted players that fit his strength but still has to make the throw he still has to make the reads I honestly I'm obsessed with how this offense is built I think it's going to be the number one offense in the in the NFL this year a lot of that uh rides on does jamus and Williams take that next step what do we get out of jir Gibbs you know catching the ball um Isaiah Williams but it all starts with Jared G and being able to make the right reads no when to hand up play action everything that goes into it is built perfectly for him little I'm on say brown little khif Raymond and Isaiah Williams the slot receivers that can get open within 10 15 yards that fits perfectly to what jurov strengths are all I need something from you what give me something that's going to happen this season where I'm going to say [ __ ] please come on are you serious that you really think is going to happen with the Detroit Lions wow wow I I I mean I think they're going to be the number one offense in the NFL I don't know if is that enough of a push to you no give me something that that I would go woo really oh my God that's surprising I I'll give you one right now okay and I got one right after I'm ready relax by the end of the season the number one running back will be jir Gibbs wow so in terms of like rushing yards and passing and by the end of the year Jamir Gibbs is going to be your number two receiver interesting you know we always say oh God the Lions don't have three receivers oh I'm all so worried jir Gibbs when they drafted him what did Brad Holmes say people say oh Brad how can you uh draft a running back in the first round that's stupid they don't need that and then Brad Holmes said hey chill out I'm not drafting a running back I'm drafting a weapon a weapon now we haven't seen the weapon is in the way that we seen we're going to see him this year yeah this this guy's going to be catching passes out of the back field he's going to be in the slot sometimes they're going to move him all over the field and just put a w by mhm weaponize the other team yeah so I think by the end of the year uh jir I mean David Montgomery with his little 700lb deadlift is still going to be a major part of this offense but we're going to be talking more about jir Gibbs oh than David Montgomery this is that moment this is that season where jir Gibbs takes a step in to start them like not just being one of the best running backs in the NFL but one of the best players we're going to start talking about him in in that Christian mcaffrey category I'm not saying he's Christian cfre yet but like that do it all running back you could hand him the ball off 20 times if you wanted to or you could hand him the ball off 13 times and pass him the ball six seven times a game and he still ends up with 150 total yards I love that I love that I think Jameson Williams scores this here's my prediction my bold prediction jamos scores a receiving touchdown this year a rushing touchdown this year and a special teams touchdown this year cuz I want to see Jameson Williams that kickoff return I don't know how you feel about these new kickoff rules but I want my weapon I want my number one weapon and yeah number one over jir Gibbs he's number two on this team I want my number one weapon at kick return Terry slow down I know you're excited I can't he's so fast but here's here's what I want to evaluate the kickoff rule a little bit longer to see if these kickoff return guys are getting killed if they are I'm not putting J Mo back there because he is very important to this franchise he's very important for this season because uh you need him he's not just a luxury you need him this year if your goals are to win the division if your goals are to win a Super Bowl if your goals are higher than theyve ever been under in Lions history that's fair so man the way you described it I I do get that I wanted to poke some holes in that because last year all we talked about is just trying to get the ball in his hands what' you say you want let let the kid fly right like let him fly whatever it takes it doesn't have to be a 40 yard 60 yard bomb like find a way to get the ball in his hand hands around the line of scrimmage and let him fly we saw it in the San Francisco I got something else for that let him fly so you can say bye-bye that rhymed Terry you're a Wordsmith you're a poet and you didn't this man is a legend with the pen I'm a poet and I don't know it see one of the oldest in the book Terry I dig it Jameson Williams is a guy I think you're right he is the key to this offense taking the next step I don't think there's going to be any drop off in this offense cuz they're all returning Kevin zitler You could argue It's actually an improvement in pass protection for Jared G maybe a slight decline in in in run blocking Jonah Williams say what you want he was an elite run blocker but I think the way this is set up with David Montgomery jir Gibbs sonone vaky and Craig Reynolds they got plenty of what they got plenty of things for Ben Johnson to play with then we're talking St Brown J khif Raymond and Isaiah Williams they don't need a fifth receiver for exactly you said jir Gibbs he's that number three pass catcher now may be number four but you got I'm wring Brown leapa and then J Gibbs and then khif Raymond and Isaiah Williams I'm cool with that as your as your pass catchers as your weapons I'm totally fine with that six some I don't need a big X receiver so now we've gone for oh the Lions don't have enough wide receivers who wi and they got some good depth there that's what people say they need Tim Patrick or Allan Robinson and I get it Allan Robinson is baked he's a little old he's a little old Tim Patrick has has something maybe still left in the tank but not to say it wouldn't be bad if they have them this NFL right now it's about creating mismatches it it you don't have to have a true X a true y a slot it it's how can your offensive coordinator create the biggest mismatches and they they can do that almost better with Isaiah Williams and St and and yeah brown but khif Raymond Gibbs J they like to run two tight end sets with Brock Wright and with leapa like there are versatile offensive players all over the place toys for Ben Johnson and jarro go to play with now Matthew Stafford on the other end he has some toys too like they're playing a good the lions are playing a good team they're a little banged up right now but there was a storyline last year you know Matthew Stafford's first ever his first game back in fordfield it was a playoff game does he get a tribute video last year what's the crowd going to act like now we've gotten that all the way Terry but he's back again week one on a scale of 1 to 10 Mr Foster how loud should Matthew Stafford get booed tonight well I'm going to say an eight or a nine you need to give it to him um bu is asked uh for the standpoint of how many Super Bowls did he win Detroit zero oh okay I got how many playoff games you went in Detroit zero Okay so so um I don't think Matthew Stafford and yes he did stuff for the community and he's got his little house he's got a little crazy wife and everything and that's all cute and everything but he's the enemy now the Enemy Number One Matthew Stafford said oh this franchise is crappy I can't win with these clowns get me the hell out of here so you're saying he asked to leave he didn't retire because a it's football and it's rough and he's looking out for his family he says I can't win here please trade me I want out I want to go to La he said this is a bad franchise this is bad organization I want no parts of this so um and I don't blame him for saying that at the time because we didn't know what Brad Holmes and Dan Campell were going to be but um you know him him departing is has been a a big catalyst with the lions taking off huge huge and I know some people like to give him credit for that like we don't need to boo Matthew Stafford because without him that trade would have never happened and we wouldn't have got you know Jared Goff jir Gibbs Sam leapor Jameson Williams iy mfano Josh Pascal and broadrick Martin all from that trade no Matthew Stafford asked out Jared gof took this team took the bull by the horns and ran with it oh there we go Pete put this up from the 33rd team they put this trade Revisited and they put at the bottom you see the little footnotes of you what really led to the Jameson Williams draft pick it didn't come directly from that trade they used that pick with the uh the Vikings trade to trade jov for you know Lewis seen Ed Ingram a bunch of players you aren't even with you bro brohammer this is the Lions Hershel Walker deal yeah that's a great call you know this is Bam look at look at all this man this is I would do this every day of the week and twice on Sunday twice on Sundays do you think the Rams would too the Rams got a super bowl out of this yeah that's the goal they're cool yeah they might be screwed in the future but you know you got that ring you got the trophy everything else cares guys why why why would you cheer a guy who smells of BNL I mean didn't we just didn't we just that's what I'm saying so I don't think that you can Che cheer out a scale one to 10 Mr Pete oh you got a 10 this is a 10 this is coming back though she changed her plans she's going to be in the building is she she is okay all right she was she was in Detroit for something and she was going to go back she's going to be there she announced she wasn't going to deal with that you know her it was a lot to handle a lot on her her emotional Insight I don't want to take a shot at mental she used the mental health word I believe when describing I don't know about that but it's got to be a 10 out of 10 Terry it has to be a 10 out of 10 first off he's an enemy quarterback so it has to start at eight just right off the bat you Boo the enemy quarterback eight and plus the other thing didn't Kelly Stafford throw Bagels at somebody during the game um was it a was it a bagel she threw something I think it was a bagel was it a bagel I think it was a bagel see I need to gather my Jewish Community together and boo Kelly Stafford for for wasting a good bagel inme don't waste Bagels was there was no Shamir on it there was it was just a bagel get cuz she's a basic act [ __ ] [ __ ] please [ __ ] please hey enemy quarterback never won anything with the Lions he dissed us remember when he dissed the city in his postgame press conference last year because that wife of his told him hey man like we were walking pregame all the fans they were booing me and booing our kids so he go so Cory Woods the great Cory Woods asked him hey what's it like being back here are you excited yeah I'm excited for my old teammates for the organization right or happi for his teammates uh so nine called out Kirby Joseph for being dirty said clean play you're a dirty player and the Rams decided to use that on their miked up series put it all out on social media trying to create this narrative that Kirby Joseph is a dirty player which he's not that was a legal hit on Tyler Higg Matthew Stafford make a better pass bro he's throwing his receivers into trouble Kelly Stafford booing the kids that's up to 10 Ram last thing actually two more things Terry you remember the ram schedule when they revealed it everyone does these fancy schedule reveals and in their video they decided decided to show Ford Field with a staff in front of it so it's Stafford field you know a couple months after Stafford came back and lost in fordfield like we're used to we're used to him losing in fordfield we saw it for plenty of years and the last thing his fake ass teeth that 10 out of 10's what's wrong with his teeth bro they're they're brutal they're brutal that was bro come on now you know you can criticize the man for throwing third quarter interceptions when he was with the Lions not winning here what's wrong this teeth are cool he's not been Franklin man they're like glued on they're not cool they they're they're I never even paid defense their secondary was awful their defensive line actually played pretty well their secondary was a I want to ask you about Aaron Glenn who seemed to be a polarizing coach here a coordinator coach he was polarizing last year I don't know if people are given him enough credit some people support him but does he start this season on the hot seat like is is his job already on the line no his job is not on the line but I think amongst fans he's on the hot seat with fans um they have to believe you know have to see in is believing um he didn't have a second secondary last year and he had one Rush In And that was Aiden Hinson who needed help uh from the other side so now this year it's a it's more complete defense they've upgraded the defensive line they've upgraded the secondary and those are the two things that we were worried about linebacker could be a little strong linebackers could be a little stronger but that defense should be top 10 and if it's not then something is wrong with Aaron Glenn that's kind of where I was I was headed because he now finally has dudes like he has a a deep a roster he's got dudes and depth on defense which is something he hasn't had like you said we're talking we're talking cam Sutton as your number one quarterback last year and kindall vildor as your number two oh my God like think about that you you are giving me the heie jeebies yeah right do do you know what this is the our little trust Circle that's Cam Sutton he you know whenever the rece he was like spinning around like a top he didn't know where anybody was it's like not only couldn't he cover receivers he couldn't find them because he was spinning around like a top yeah I've never seen that before what the hell is that it was some of the worst coverage I can remember in my lifetime but also Terry it was planned like they knew what they were doing putting him out on an island he wasn't going to stick with any of those number ones it's a to me that's almost a strategic decision that I give Aaron Glenn credit for like Aaron Glenn isn't perfect and I made the argument last year he might be a better head coach than a defensive coordinator just because he's such a strong leader of men and we saw all the other players in the NFL they voted him the number one defensive coordinator in the leag M the defense wasn't number one it wasn't number F wasn't top 10 they had a top five Rush defense but that's with no secondary that's with a very young linebacker crew now he has guys I don't think he's on the hot seat Terry but I think now he now he has no excuses now is the time where it does need to jump into the top 10 this defense because they have depth veterans youth they have everything you could want everywhere a few question marks like who's going to be that number one Rush Edge rusher opposite Hutch is Davenport going to stay healthy is James Houston going to stay healthy but level by level this defense is completely transformed there are no excuses well this this is another sign of how the defense has improved two years ago you know who we were talking about who Rodrigo as the started you're right started rrio now we don't even hear his name I didn't I don't even know if he's on the team anymore it's because they've got other people who are better than him is by the way is rrio still around he is he is I just want to make sure he's a name that gets brought up in the cut conversations not because the team doesn't love like Dan Campbell BR they love him in Allen Park so they're not going to cut him even if he doesn't play linebacker anymore they'll find a way to put him at fullback special teams but you hit it on the nail he was our best defender as a rookie as a middle linebacker as a sixth round pick now he's getting better too he's your fifth or sixth linebacker right and and and the other thing is they they want to cut the whole linebacking crew for Rodrigo because he was doing things the right way everybody else was crap now Rodrigo is like he just barely is is not on the practice squad right that shows that the Personnel is better Aaron Glenn will be better without a doubt and we got to give Rodrigo some credit one of the bigger plays in the NFC championship game was the interception he had of course that game didn't turn out very well for these Lions the second half choke they got to figure out what to do on third down this year um but Rodrigo had a huge play he's he's just a dude that they trust the defense has to get better that offense do you have any concerns or or what do you think's the cealing of this offense Ben Johnson how how scared should opposing defensive coordinators be about Ben Johnson and his ability to sculpt a position offense well I guess they shouldn't be concerned at all since jarro go sucks as a quarterback Ian he can't run though dude he throws dck right uh I would be very concerned if I was going up against the Lions offense I mean they're legit I mean here's here's the thing usually when you talk about an offense oh there's great passing team or it's a great running team these guys could switch okay they could overpower you they can go up top because now we got uh J Mo and Sam Le Porter yes is a son of a [ __ ] at tight end and then you got Aman R st Brown here's what I like about St Brown talk to me it's third and seven the Lions know they're going to go to St Brown the fans know they're going to go to St Brown and the opposing team knows they're going to go to state Brown jarro go gets in the shotgun causes those signals passes to St Brown complete eight yards first down keep going everybody in the entire Stadium knows who it's going to right and that man's still more open than a jar peanut butter still open it's like Dam where's the where's the defense I'll just catch it that's what makes him so special now how how open can he get we call him the yak King cuz I think he was second in the NFL in yards after catch and that's with his number two last year it it turned into Sam leaport but is Josh Reynolds who I think's a relatively significant loss but with these other dudes stepping up the middle of that field for St brown with leaport Isaiah Williams and then J you hit it on the nail J the emergence of Gibbs in the passing game how good of a season can St Brown have like he might could he regress in his production and his stats but have a better season probably he could still improve his stats too if he's got all the space and actually gets to run after the catch his numbers won't decline I don't think so either no he's going to be breaking Lions alltime receiving records very very soon because even if you know I made fun of you guys I was listening to your little Morning Show I came in you guys were like oh who's going to get more yards J Mo or St Brown I'm like really is this a discussion it shouldn't be was I a part of that discussion you're were part of the discussion that's my bad you're trying to dismiss yourself to deal with him even if the lines are not going that way we got to deal with this guy uh he concerns us that's going to open it up for St Brown and Sam leap Porter yeah you know there's a little sneaky thing sneaky Peete yes sir this is the Sneaky Pete segment here here's the sneaky little thing about the Lions Sam Le Porter I know he's a white guy but he can go deep too he can go deep people don't believe white guys can't go deep pause yes they can they definitely can Sam leap Porter doesn't he's not just catching little eight yard button hooks he's going 20 25 30 yards up FL so now you got two guys who can stretch you that you got to worry about yeah sa Brown might go for 2,000 yards this year look at you broer 668 yards after a catch second in the League last year for Alan ra St Brown look at you dude behind CD lamb only like 12 yard shot that's wild and St Brown can take you deep too like there we might see today so the Rams their top cornerbacks missing Darius Williams they got a bunch of Youth all over their defense by the way tune in our pregame show later with Neil and sha ban they're really going to break down matchups fantasy stuff injuries the roster they're going to get deep into this game from we're keeping it more conversational but this is a game where I don't know how the Rams are going to stop this offense bro you don't you do know this is not the like 5:30 to 7:30 5:30 to 7:30 normally they're 10 to 12 before 1:00 game Prime Time special tonight yes exactly so they're going to break it down but Darius Williams their top cornerback is out their second best quarterback travius white he's missed 30 games in the last three years they lost Aaron Donald the best I think the best defensive lineman arguably ever of the last decade easily probably ever probably ever better you can put J in the slot you can put St Brown out white you you can create all these mismatches that allow J with his speed to be able to either get to the outside around St brown or have St brown run it on their number two number three number four cornerback cu no one can guard St Brown especially not a backup right I got a magic number for you what two two two in the next five years the Lions must go to two Super Bowls wow so so are you saying if they don't won't go to two this Lion's build this this I'm not going to call it a failure but it would be underwhelming okay two well I have a more important follow-up question to that and how many of those two do they win they'll win one only one out of two is good enough all right I'm just trying to be realistic I you but I'm sure broer is going to say oh no they'll go to five and they'll win all five of them since you never pick them to lose no it can't happen it can't no by game but does that number need to be higher it doesn't it doesn't like I I think the way this team is set up the way they built this roster their best players are 23 and 24 years old M I think they should they should get to the Super Bowl three times in the next five years this is the NFL things happen that that's that has the Mak of a dynasty but they have to get to two they have to get to two and they have to win one in the next 5 years the chiefs of done it so can the Lions duplicate the Chiefs and I have another big question for you and for you too Sneaky Pete yes sir all right um what's more likely to happen this season the Kansas City Chiefs become the first team to three peat as Super Bowl champions or the Lions go to their first Super Bowl ah what's more like if if I said only one of these things can happen what would it be and both never happened before in the NFL his forever it's it's the Chiefs it's the Chiefs sorry sorry one Pride it's the Chiefs cuz they have Patrick Mahomes true it's and the other thing with the Lions weird things happen to this team you know referees might make blow a call or um yeah Jared G is on the rare times he's running is running in for a game-winning touchdown and pulls his hamstring and has to pull up just way up or a lineman gets hit by a truck in his front yard some you know just weird things happen with the Lions they might be slightly haunted I think it's the Lions I I I'll I'll take the other side I really do think it's the Lions because I I I think that the Lions Youth and like you were talking about broer their youth they're 23 24 years old that core is good I think that I I think it'd be the Lions to get to three Super Bowls let alone win three would take an awful lot of an I think it's the Lions get into the Super Bowl first yeah don't get me wrong like I fully expect the Lions to be in the Super Bowl this year I think they're going to be in it again at least two or three times in the next 5 years but we're talking about who will end his career as the greatest quarterback ever You could argue it already I I'm with Tom Brady still but you can't deny that M there's magic with Mahomes and a threee has never happened before but we've also never seen a Patrick Mahomes that's the only player and team that I would choose in this hypothetical scenario there's magic there and in Kansas City it's to pick against them to me is is it's wrong but this Lions team should be there it's not a knock on we we have to figure out two things who's who's who can beat Kansas City in the AFC playoffs B who can beat the lions in the NFC playoffs so that that factors in also and in the AFC they got some good teams like we're just waiting and I don't even know who well obviously I wouldn't want to see Patrick Mahomes in the Super Bowl but when is Lamar going to step up and beat Mahomes or Josh Allen is Justin Herbert with Harbaugh and a new Chargers team is he going to you know turn into a winning quarterback not a talented quarterback with a losing record is Trevor Lawrence who gets named consistently over Jared G as a better quarterback like AFC has got some Talent they do but once again you're cutie pie because you don't like to bring up the negative stuff uh Lamar Jackson Lamar Jackson is not a good playoff quarterback no uh Josh Allen turns the ball over too much uh Trevor Lawrence I don't know what's up with that bro I thought he was going to be way better than this and he's not and he's not so maybe you know the Chiefs have a clear path yeah and and I know we're talking Super Bowl and and NFC as a whole but what about in the NFC North in the next five years Terry who's the biggest competition to the Lions I'm going to say it's the Chicago Bears really yes Chicago Bears first of all as an organization I did not respect but they're doing things they they're accumulating draft picks um and maybe I'm buying the the whole Hard Knocks crap but um I kind of like that team now I've been watching them I said you know what I'm going to stop watching the show because I kind of like Caleb Williams now I I side note I kind of agree with you like that hard knog there's something There's Something Brewing in Chicago I don't like it as Lions fan it's entertaining they might be figuring something out I'm not taking them seriously until they truly invest in their offensive line but they got a good defense and a defensive minded head coach if Caleb Williams turns into you know 75% of what people think is ceiling might be they're going to be good for a while but to me it's the Packers it's got to be the Packers and that's even what Jordan loves injuries in the next you know he's going to miss what 3 to six weeks possibly uh with a an MCL injury but that team I hate the Packers by the way FTP [ __ ] the Packers all right but they just continue to pump out contenders and we're talking NFC North not challenging to win the NFC they got question marks in the playoffs too I don't know if Matt LEF is a playoff coach he's a great regular season coach to me it's the Packers it's not the Vikings I'm going to stretch your little brain again let's bring it Terry who's going to be the better quarterback over the next five years Jordan love Caleb Williams Jordan love Jordan love Jordan love he's had the benefit he's had the benefit of being able to sit and learn and watch Aaron Rodgers Matt laflor like he he when Jordan love has been on he looks like he could be special like he Caleb whims might too but there's something about Jordan love his savviness in the pocket his ability to scramble and make plays on the Run um there's just something about the Packers they found their quarterback if he stays healthy they found him I don't know yet about Caleb here here's the thing about Caleb Williams he has a Chicago's always going to have a good defense and that helps the quarterback and they're always going to have a good running game which helps the quarterback so and plus he's got a cool beard so I'm going to go the number four wide receiver on this team which tells you one thing what Brad Holmes a little bit crazy too Brad Holmes is a psychopath in every in the best way in the best way what do you think like to me they're perfect additions to this team because of the we already talked about you're trying to create mismatches in the NFL we don't know what we're going to get out of those there are so many things that Ben Johnson as the architect of this offense can do with those two to support the rest of the offense is there one you're more excited about like cak's versatility or Isaiah williamss just fitting Jared GF perfectly like I think these are two underrated names that we're going to hear a lot about this year as rookies I I'm more excited about vaky for this reason I don't think the Lions have figured out what they're going to do with him so they got this little toy and it's makes a little great crazy sounds and it can sing and it's cute and everything but we don't quite know how to play with it they're going to figure that out and this man's going to be dangerous he could be another W he could be another W yes oh yeah which reminds me um I want to bring this up their practice squad yeah usually when I look at the Lions practice squad they give me here here's a practice squad and I look at and I say okay this guy Burger King this guy's going to be working at Lowe's this guy McDonald's and this guy will be homeless but when I looked at the practice squad this year I'm like he going to play he going to play he's going to play this guy can help the team they got a bunch of dudes and they got like I thought I count seven or eight guys that I think are going to help this team once again that goes back to Brad Holmes it dude is dude's a dog they build their their roster with 69 players yeah there's a 53 man active roster they're planning on 69 because they're going to use the majority if not all of those 16 players like we're talking a practice squad that's probably better than the Panthers right now like there's not a full team you know but when you got Alan Robinson and Tim Patrick on your practice squad mhm like like that that's say what you want about alen
