UNC vs Minnesota Football Postgame Reaction

all I can say j [Music] and home the Carolina Tar Hills go one and o hello everyone and welcome in the postgame reaction we are the hill Brothers Nathan and Allan are here we're just got done we're streaming this live after our watch party so uh this one is it's going to be relatively quick because it is a late night it's 12:38 uh am now uh not the game's over Easter stand officially Friday it's officially Friday in Carolina Friday Frid Fray yeah Carolina gets to go home with a with a 1 and0 Victory 19-17 North Carolina gets the win over the Minnesota Golden Gophers now let's quickly um let let's talk about him you know really quick here a very unfortunate thing that we haven't saw happen at Carolina in a long time uh happen tonight uh Max Johnson uh was it was it late early third quarter um goes down with apparently currently right now it's ACL MCL area uh his knee did buckle on a sack that he was um that he was taking at the moment and uh right now it is not looking uh very good for Conor or Max Johnson looks like he is going to be done for the season I think that's the official expectation at this point in time uh now so um Conor Harold comes in in the third quarter and I thought chip Lindsay in my opinion did not trust him whatsoever but we'll get to that point in a minute but Allan quick takes on the uh game tonight uh you just second the whole Max thing hate it for the guy um I thought that first drive coming out of the second half you know he kind of CED the nerves a little bit Yeah realize that this is still just a football game that he's playing in um then that unfortunate injury happens to his knee um you know wish him a speedy recovery absolutely then uh Connor comes in and I think what you saw out of Max in the first half you saw out of Conor in the second and you saw the same thing from the play callers in the first half when Conor came in mhm um you know you're like Conor don't lose us the game or Maran you know please win us the game or you know at least just get us to the 45 so Noah Bernett can kick a 52 yard field goal um thank God for Noah Bernett four field goals on the night four for four he's the difference in the game um Maran went for over a 100 yards uh Darwin Barlo got some run um but man I and the defense looked great until the last you know you know the defense looked like a Jeff Collins defense until the last series of the game then back got tight then you know the game got tight and then you're like oh God don't lose it and then the defense I don't know if it was the players or the play calls um but it looked more like a uh you know a jean chisik type defense like yeah let's just keep him in front of us guys keep him in front of us and they D cond dun us right down the field um but man uh you're one to0 I think North Carolina has a lot of questions going into week two fortunately the schedule is a little soft in the next three weeks um there'll be a lot a lot of growth I would expect to see from Conor harrold I don't know if Conor Harold comes out of those games if if I was the coach I don't think you let Conor Harold come out of those games unless I mean you don't want to get him hurt of course but he needs as many live bullets against people trying to take his head off as possible yeah I have to I have to second that honestly dude you know this is a game that boy man the excitement's real but you know now you know it's time to look at the time to look at what this game really was you know we we didn't think uh personally I didn't think that they were going to run Amari and Hampton as much as did just because uh last year that's a lot last year you know he wasn't able to hardly get anything now you had Drake may you had obviously proven commodity at quarterback but arm Marian runs for on 30 uh 30 carries for 129 yards man that's that's a good way to start the season um but you know my my biggest takeaway out of this is offensive coordinator you know what questions that is my biggest question question is offensive coordinator because if your offensive coordinator is not trusting the guy you have behind Center because it looked like they did the same thing with Max it s like it was really reserved with him and then they kind of started to break it open a smidge yeah and then that second that first drive of the second half they they you know they kind of you know they unlocked one of the locks yeah right right right right um and then it kind of you know the ball started moving right and um and and and that's what you that's what you want you want to see that but I mean Carolina thankfully did enough to get the win unfortunately um they almost did enough to get you to lose the game but man there's so much it's so much this is a game that I mean and this this game is exactly what everybody everybody talked about V Vegas had it right two points if you took the over you're if you took the over you lost yeah um so hopefully y'all took that under yeah uh I I don't understand I mean yeah a lot of play action need needs to happen we were wondering how many play action passes they really even threw and honestly I think you can count them all in one hand tonight I I don't I didn't see many at all you know Conor got uh got to throw a couple of times um JJ and you know I don't yeah yeah JJ JJ was fine but um caught that one yeah he caught that one but JJ missed dropped a ball and Bryson Nesbit dropped the ball that ended up being or is a 5050 ball that he let the the corner get to um and that ended up being interception that really kind of changed the game for Minnesota in their favor in a sense but Carolina came out and did they were not explosive on offense we didn't expect this team to be extremely explosive like last year we kind of expect it to be a little bit more complimentary style but it 27 24 though yeah uh a lot of people picked high scoring I picked 2421 so I guess I wasn't too far off uh but man this is a this is a this is a team in Carolina that definitely trust their defense I believe you can say that I I I think you can honestly say Hey you know they did until the last Drive of the game yeah that was I mean that had I mean that had us on edge I mean um that defense you know we was excited about the defense in that last Drive com back and we just like we just kind of like Dearing the headlights and last Drive last Drive was they missed the field goal then it's just Pur Elation right right um those tackles it play a little bit better Javari ritzy had three sacks on the night that's good you need that was one of the guys step up right that's one of the guys you needed to step up Travis Shaw as well Big Time play right there when when when brosber went down and the ball popped out good good thinking on him to to just jump on that football because if he didn't they would have got that football right back um so that definitely helped a lot there but uh Carolina in my opinion you know is in a spot where this is I personally ranked this team the third hardest in the season right that you were gonna face all season I ranked it third out of out of the entire schedule I I ranked it at number three you got through this game you got the win now you know we was kind of talking about this in watch party now that the conversation about quarterback is over we know it's Conor now and and unless some Miracle happens with Max Johnson it's Conor now um so now that Conor is coming and he's he comes in the next week he he goes in he he comes back to Chapel Hill to qb1 yeah he gets all he gets all the Reps he gets all the Reps and now Chip Lindsay can now start to work with this offense okay what can we do to be an offense that defenses have to figure out because it felt like to me the defense for Minnesota after a certain like after Conor came in they didn't have to think it was going to Omarian Hampton right and Chip Lindsay just was hellbent on I'm gonna go to amarian Hampton now they get to take the time come back out relax a little bit and now let's let's take because you got an extended week you don't play till next Saturday today's it's Thurs Friday now you know they come back they'll come back today they'll come back sometime today yeah they'll get in early early in the morning right early today right they'll get they'll get the weekend they'll get all of next week Charlotte is a team that currently is going into their first game half of their starters are hurt and injured they won't be back for a few weeks so it's and and I ranked Charlotte as the worst team that we're g to Face Off season just because of that fact just just knowing that right um so I got a good feeling that now that this this game is over this game was ugly this is ugly game I mean this big 10 football right we played Big 10 football most if if you didn't if we weren't North Carolina fans and you were just you know just watching colge football game this would be the most boring game to you in the world and and I that's why I can't stand Big T football personally that that that just I don't I don't care for that um Minnesota's offense did look very similar and we heard this from skyou the people that report that looked very similar to last year I thought brosmer got a chance to kind of put some of his stuff on display but it looked like PJ flick also was a guy that was tring to hide him a little bit um they did go to Daniel Jackson A Lot Number Nine yeah their wide receiver there wide receiver I mean their two best pass plays were our defensive pass interferences on Marcus Allen yeah two deep shots and both of them are you know 15 yards for I a penalty right so you take this game and you say okay this was an ugly flipping game what can we take that's positive what do we what can we take that we need to work on number one let's quickly go over for me number one I think you have to work on tackling especially in your secondary your secondary's got to tackle your safties stick Lane I I I love you to death sck I absolutely love you quit with this whole let me just try and truck a dude I I get it wrap up wrap up do that Caleb cost wrap up do these things you know now this is the first time that Caleb cost this is the second start ever for Caleb cost yeah he's got some Lear so so he's got some learning to do Marcus Allen cannot be committing two pass interference calls in a game cannot commit two piis no no no no no that is 15 yards that you're that is 30 yards that he gave to them tonight right can't be turning the football over is at a premium yeah and when yards is at a premium and you know the the good news is is that you had an interception ran back for 70 yards two pass interference calls you made a lot of mistakes tonight and he was able to get through a a team that I think is going to be pretty solid you know they're not they're a good defensive team they're a really good defensive team and they've got they've got they can run the football and I think give brosmer a little bit more time this is his first game in the FBS ever he's he's a he's a fifth year guy played in the FCS give him some time I think that Minnesota's offense is going to be a whole lot better in the passing game coming pretty soon but Allan I'm G let I'm gonna let you have the last word in totality what do you take out of this game um in totality uh chip Lindsay really has to sit down with Conor harrold and figure out what he's good at there was a ton of opportun ities for Conor Harold to pull the ball in the fourth quarter on the on the rpos or maybe just the option in general where he gave it where he gave it to Hampton and then rolled out when when he rolled out it looked like he had 15 yards of green grass in front of him if he had just kept the ball yeah and then the times where he pulled the ball he just ran he did what AM Maran did in his freshman year he just run right up the back of the offensive line um so I mean that's it's literally his second time play playing a power five team so I mean give the give the guy some credit you know he came out made the one nice pass to JJ for 33 that got us in Phil gold Range to take the lead um did just enough to get us down there to uh yeah take the lead and then you know you just got to learn scrap it you know watch it watch it once burn the tape get in practice get these reps and then you know move on move on to Charlotte then you know just get better day after they it's a process um this team's not going to be great overnight obviously um so it's just going to be a process and you have the teams in front of you on this schedule for the next three weeks that you can build the team yeah the teams you have on the schedule you can build and learn what you have and get your guys ready for that first away game at Duke to start the ACC season yep and and and I like everything you said but I'm gonna add to it okay and I'm G get these are my final thoughts and then we're gonna have some fun all right let's we're gonna we're gonna shell out some stickers buddy give out them stickers that's it uh I think today the biggest takeaways is that number one the team that the the coaching staff that's been telling you for six months they're going to play depth they're doing that Caleb L Val was in there there's a lot of guys rotating in and out a lot of young wide receivers was out there you like to see that and uh you you like seeing the young guys get out there and make plays especially on that defensive side Caleb La valy was out there a good bit Bo ainson was out there um Corners left right and Center was out there I mean you played a lot of guys um and and that's a good sign you want that and you need that for sure if you're actually going to be a a a better football team going throughout the uh throughout the season uh number two this team is resilient yeah this team is very resilient it is this is that was you are in a hostile rockus crowd in Minnesota it wasn't quite Virginia Tech 2021 oh he didn't hear if it was yeah well we couldn't hear maybe if we go back it maybe it was um so uh it's the team's resilient they they've got Del they got Del Ablow and Max Johnson they got a bad hand and and a lot of mistakes and they were able to fight through that come up with the win uh even though it was off a missed field goal and and you thank the guy for missing the field goal hey that's fine you got the win you did what you could to get that lead back late because you had to get the lead back late yeah you to take the lead in order for him to you know feel the pressure to win the game right so you see that and you say okay you know this team can get into the weeds and um you know this team can get in the weed weeds and and still come out Victorious it might be ugly but that's what we need that is something that we haven't saw in Carolina's uh team in a long time now uh think about the games last year that got into the weeds that that you just couldn't you know pull out Virginia Georgia Tech ring a bell anybody uh Clemson to a degree was was one of those games you got into the weeds you had to get out of so you look at that and you say Okay Carolina made a lot of mistakes tonight still got some questions to answer lot mistakes but this team is not going to be polished night one you know you you you need a game like this you need because I mean all the odds stacked against Carolina Carolina's a team trying to figure a lot of things out new DC quarterback conversations what's all that you got to figure all that stuff out and you're going into a hostile Minnesota crowd it's wet it's raining like crazy there's wind everywhere everything was working against a North Carolina team that's trying to figure themselves out and you go up there to Minnesota team that even though they they aren't throwing the football a whole bunch up there right now I believe they will later on the season but right now um I do believe that that that's a solid Big 10 team that team has won nine games consistently over the last few years outside of last year last year just with a ton a ton of injuries yeah so as much ugly there is some good there's some there's some things that you can pull out and say you know what we did do that you know offensive line played very well in my opinion they they made some nice for Maran to they did and this is the F that's a that is a solid a lot of NFL Talent on the D line over there for them yep a lot of those guys over there on the D line gonna be making a check out of Minnesota I think they're I think Minnesota's offensive line they got they got some people that's going to make some money right and Carolina was able to create some holes and create time in the pocket um and and you know Minnesota still got their looks that's fine you you a team like that they're going to eventually they're they're going to break through they're they're going to get some chances but for guys that hadn't started a game outside of one of them that being Willie lamin and they just came together six months ago Aiden bfield freshman got the start at left guard and played that he played his tail off you take that and you take it to the bank and you run with it I like it I'm happy with it it's a win one and0 that's all all that matters we are you can't win them all if you don't win the first one that's right that's right so now it goes into the next three weeks you get a lot of time to to works out some Kinks try to keep everybody healthy as much as possible and tonight this one was for you Max that's exactly this game was for Max they won this one for Max but you know what time it is what time is it it's time to give that man a helmet sticker yes sir welcome to a brand new segment we're going to be doing on the postgame show every single year now we're going to keeping up track of this how many helmet stickers that we give out we have one on offense and one on defense for the individual I have one on offense he has and one on defense he has one on offense and defense as well and we're going to keep a track on this and we're going to see who our MVPs are at the very end of the season on offense and Def based off the helmet stickers are you ready Allan your offensive helmet sticker goes to oh I'm glad you gave me first choice because this is an easy one yep Big O get that Mana sticker oh wow okay I am all right yeah all right Omarian Hampton gets Allen's first offensive sticker I like that I I know you're going that's why I'm leaving it to you wow I honestly I was I'm completely okay with you know matching with you but my helmet sticker Noah Bernett 98 and by the way my new favorite player tomag Guinness that is my new favorite player on this team that guy has done so much uh I I I absolutely love that dude he man he's really improved from last season I love him I freaking I'm getting the 96 Jersey but 98 Noah Bernett four for four a 50 Yer bro I 52 yard that extra six feet now yes sir I am gonna give that man a helmet sticker because that dude he was feeling himself and I love it defensive side of the ball I'm G take this one I'll let you have the last God Al Mighty defensive side of the ball I don't think it can go to anybody else outside of Javari ritzy Javari ritzy needs to get that man I should have took your no and you might have left me ritzy no it's all right though I'm okay with with with uh with matching with you it don't matter to me brother so who's your defensive guy are you GNA try and change up on you know what I'mma give it to somebody else who they whiffed on one tackle and that's okay I know he going to and honestly not a bad choice go ahead I'm G say Amari Campbell yes with the club starting his first game he got in the back field yes he whiffed on the one sack on third down that's all right he's only playing with one hand God Al Mighty but the other one God blessed that club he whacked that ball out of brosmer bremmer's hand you better get give that man a sticker give that man a helmet sticker boy hot dog hopefully you guys hey man are I got one more go ahead go ahead go one more are you throwing another sticker out there is that that what you saying you know who else needs a sticker who's that the only man to scor a touchdown tonight Max Johnson feel that man's helmet up he La all on the line he might have not have performed like y'all wanted him to that's right he did everything that he could for this team and he left on a cart give that man a sticker wow and then we got one guy in the chat James Walker who was at the game that is awesome dude and I am so excited that that you know Minnesota was so happy for North Carolina they even blew out fireworks for us I love it I absolutely love it bro thank you Minnesota you've been great host I I hate that we weren't able to get up there and try out that milk and all the all the cookies and everything and all that good stuff we'll have to see if we can't you know I don't I don't think they're going back I don't think they're going back they got TCU next year TCU home and home is it TCU next year or is it or is it UCF I'm pretty I'm pretty sure it's TCU I thought that was two years from now it might very well could be I have no idea but holy smokes man that is awesome that is the post game for this week we have 11 more to go man
