it's a pretty cold Tuesday in Winnipeg but the owner and partner of an ice cream shop that's open year round says he's figured out the secret ingredient of how to keep people coming through the doors year round too hello hello oh my gosh it's so nice to see you nice to see you this is Joseph Shaban owner and partner of Shaban ice cream this is the salty caramel that we won the grand champion for amazing and there's a hint of salt but with caramel and it's I I think just to die for it turns out the secret isn't really Secret at all no matter the weather Winnipeg just seems to love ice cream people just want to get out of the house and as soon as spring hit uh we started having lineups yes if it was raining it does you can see the numbers a bit but in general it's becoming a good year winnipeggers seem to agree do you care about the weather when you get ice cream no how come I just love ice cream if it's sunny outside I'll get like U raspberry or cherry but if it's more like today I'm going to get like a coffee flavor maybe a plain vanilla love that but you're still going to get ice cream oh yeah but just in case people don't feel like a sweet treat shabon also expanded their Dairy offerings they've been making cheese for a few years which also helps with sales during the winter my background I'm a second generation cheese maker so I was like let's start making cheese and it was the best decision we made it helped us become more of a sustainable company all year long Shayan says the addition of cheese has helped him feel like he's really in his element but says he's definitely an ice cream man now too we feel proud that we are just an all natural ice cream based uh glutenfree majority of our flavors uh and just make everything from scratch thank you in Winnipeg Joan Roberts City news
