the cfl's leading rusher has the first touchdown of this great cup with the start of CFL free agency less than a week away the Winnipeg Blue Bombers locked up their star running back Brady Olivera to a new two-year deal on Tuesday with the reigning most outstanding Canadian saying at the end of the day there's no place like home uh when it came down to you know looking at my options for this upcoming season you know my heart is just tied to Winn AIG coming off a season in which the Winnipeg native led the entire CFL in rushing yards touchdowns and yards from scrimmage there was certainly no shortage of suitors for the 26-year-old but after coming up short in consecutive great Cup finals Oliva says he has unfinished business with the blue and gold that's that's all I really I think about that a lot you know and and when I'm this off season when I'm training it's it's it's always in my head all the time it's I want to be a massive part of why this team wins championships not just one Championship championships I want to be a massive part in that following the conclusion of last season olera said he wanted to pursue NFL opportunities and although he didn't receive any contract offers he did confirm he received interest from both the Detroit Lions and the Buffalo Bills at the end of the day I think it it's all about you know right timing and and and and roster spots at the end of the day um but I mean it is what it is I I am extremely happy where I am right now you know getting this deal done with Winnipeg the NFL is in the rearview mirror now so I think there was the the drive of playing here to home but the bombers also stepped up and gave him a very fair deal and while still very early in his career if oliv is successful in helping guide the bombers back to the promised land Andrew Patterson of Winnipeg Sports Talk believes it may just be time to start adding his name to the list of the greatest to ever Dawn the blue and gold um he's got the stats he's got the awards many people thought he probably should have been the most outstanding player last year as well the one thing that he doesn't have is a starter is a great Cup ring and if the Winnipeg Blue Bombers can get back to the big one and a win a ring um we'll be talking about Brady Oliva amongst bomber greats in Winnipeg Kurt black City news
