Lions home opener, body found in alley and more on the HD show

working for you Fox 2 News at 6 starts now hello and welcome in to the HD show I am Dave Spencer it is certainly a big day in the D as the roar gets officially restored later this evening we're talking of course about our Detroit Lions things are certainly humming buzzing doing whatever you want them to do in downtown Detroit the Lions will be taking on Matthew Stafford and the LA Rams the game is still a few hours from kickoff but there are tons of people Gathering downtown for this big game box 2's Camille and Mary live downtown Camille uh I have to imagine they were showing up uh pretty early for this one there a lot of lead up coming into this game tell us about the excitement leading up to kickoff well I can tell you that it is absolutely electric down here we've been down here since like 3:30 4:00 and let me tell you I can't remember the last time I saw that many people downtown Detroit much Le in all their Lion's gear take a look at some video we've got all the people tailgating playing the drinking games doing all the fun stuff leading into of course the game which kickoff isn't until 8:20 tonight but you know you got to come down here early and even if you don't have tickets you got to come down here and experience this because of course after last season everyone is on the Lion's bandwagon and let me tell you the hype is real the excitement is real and they are literally counting down until this game we got a little pork alast St we got chicken we got chorizo just keeping the party going you know it's good stuff this is without question the greatest hype ever been in an NFL game of all time this is the biggest game this is it I mean this is Detroit best Detroit at its best we are so excited and I think it'll be a lion win for sure this look at this this is gorgeous you can't get this anywhere else no sports team we're the best sports team in the nation right now Detroit This Is Us oh my gosh it's so exciting we've been a season ticket holder for 4 years now and this is the most hype we've had like going into the new season I cannot wait for the game tonight so excited so excited those are the two key words that everybody is feeling of course we do have some La fans here they've always tried to get in there like go Rams but we're saying no go home go Lions uh this is going to be a very big night for sure and like I said so many people down here even without tickets just getting see see I told you they're getting it in there they're trying to get that in there but we know that the lions are the best and that they are going to win tonight reporting live in downtown Detroit Camille and Mary Fox two news oh Camille there's one in every crowd is it there so I noticed in the video you were showing us Tippy cup could you for the viewers at home explain the rules of Tippy cup so they could play play along if they're watching I'm having a lot of problems hearing you by my photographer my photographer has the earphones on so of course he can hear you really good and he's laughing whatever you said I'm going to agree with because I'm sure it was something amazing but let me tell you this is the place to be tonight I I hear the drums going on there's a lot happening behind you you're blending in with your Lion's gear I appreciate that uh enjoy the festivities and then I know we got some news to cover so we'll let you get back to check in with meteorologist Rich hey Rich hey there Dave yeah beautiful day it was cool this morning a lot of us uh bottomed out early this morning in the middle 40s but now we have lots of sunshine there is a very weak system here uh in Northern lower Michigan a couple of showers not far from Traver City certainly some showers way up here in Eastern Canada it's a long way from us we stay dry in fact the next seven eight nine days we have very few chances for any rain at all could be one or two sprinkles up around Sagen right now but for us mostly sunny skies down here I'm going to show you some live pictures here in Southfield 72 just some fair weather cumulus clouds boy looks nice out there it feels like football now we are watching trouble uh Brewing down here in the tropics this is the southern Gulf of Mexico tropical uh depression is trying to develop and this may become a tropical storm later tonight we'll be watching as the threat increases up along the Michigan the Texas Louisiana border make that up along the Gulf Coast later this week now yesterday was on the chili side right now temperatures are a good 8 n 10 degrees warmer for a lot of us so that sunshine in September when it's out you can really feel it today's high 72 there's your averages 77 and 58 so still a good 8 n degrees below where we should be look at the records 98 and 39 we were not close to that record this morning right now a lot of us are near 70 degrees 70 in mon Rowe 68 now 68 up to our North in Port here on there is a breeze out there and it'll stick around for tonight and for tomorrow nothing very strong but you feel it when you're outside look at the warmer numbers off to our West 73 in Cedar Rapids 78 in Minneapolis 72 in Marquette we're at 69 that's at Metro Airport 68 degrees there in Pittsburgh if you need a cool spot look at Montreal right now they're at 55 degrees for us high pressure is riging in from the south so we're going to stay dry and Mild the next couple days but as high pressure builds in we're going to get even warmer by midweek you'll see it all in the 7-day forecast for the rest of tonight we'll call it partly cloudy very comfortable temperatures will fall off once we get Beyond Sunset close to 8:00 now tomorrow's another great looking day Monday mostly sunny breezy and milder we're going to be up near 80 degrees tomorrow and then check out the 7-day forecast we're moving up 82 Tuesday mid 80s for Wednesday Thursday and Friday temperatures still on the mild side as far out as next weekend and notice day there is no rain in the forecast we could use some we're going to check those numbers for you tonight at 10 really could a return to summer thank you Rich all right let's talk about some other news now a disturbing discovery that was made on the west side of Detroit just this morning the body of a woman found in a back alley Detroit police are investigating it as a homicide at this time Fox 2 Zing Kelly has been working this story speaking with those who live in the area who say they are definitely concerned right now this is the neighborhood I lived in when I lived here Sharia schaer back home to visit family when she learns of a terrifying crime in her old neighborhood that's really you know disturbing it's more than surprising it's disturbing Detroit police say just before 5 Sunday morning the body of a woman was discovered near Prevost and Grand River one resident says the body was found in this alley overgrown with weeds right near a car wash with 24-hour security video how old was she do do you have any data police not releasing many details at this time only saying saying the woman died from an apparent injury to the body I pray for her and her family wow it's sad uh but it's reality police tell Fox 2 there is no suspect information at this time but the crime scene is near Detroit 300 a community group working to reduce crime in the city as this investigation continues police want anyone with information to contact them or Crim Stoppers at 1 1800 speak up we hope that uh whoever's endeavored to do that is caught and have to pay the price in Detroit ingret KY Fox 2 News let's stay in Detroit now police are investigating a fatal car crash which resulted in the car colliding with the tree and then that car catching fire this all happened around 10: this morning at the intersection of Edinburgh and 7 Mile Road on that's on the west side of the city according to police the driver the man he was the only person in the car at the time of the crash according to a witness the driver sped out of a nearby gas station and ran directly into the tree that was right in front of L Deli the crash remains under investigation at this time and a Detroit toddler is in the hospital after getting his hands on an unsecured weapon in his home police were called to the scene on St Patrick's Street Friday afternoon that's over on the city's East Side investigators say the three-year-old found the gun in his mother's dresser then accidentally shot himself it was just a gry's wound thankfully that the child is expected to survive police say there was a storage lock box in the home and we're told now that the mother is expected to face charges as a result of this well it wasn't planned this way but a day after that toddler shot himself with an unsecured gun Detroit police host a free gunlock event in Rouge Park the organizers with dpd say saving just one child makes it all worthwhile Fox 2 Jessica dupnack has more got to protect babies got to protect the kids and me it feels like so often we're talking about Detroit's babies here on Fox 2 getting a hold of unsecured firearms and shooting themselves or other children I can't even explain the trauma if something happened to one of my babies I couldn't I couldn't do it we caught up with Whitney dinard at a free gun lock event in Detroit Saturday the day before this event a three-year-old finds mom's gun suffering a graze wound on the city's east side with this latest story on her mind Whitney getting outfitted with a lock because of her godchildren they always over I have to make sure they're safe right because they're tallers up to eight or n years old and it only takes a little bit of pressure to pull the trigger we have been saying for years you can get free gun locks at any of the Detroit police precincts but not everyone listens clearly one is too many so I mean you see it on the news it just it just happens it happens it happens and it happens it's enough is enough Detroit police Sergeant William Tatum in firearms training wanted to make the free gunlock event a whole thing bounce houses free haircuts and food at Rouge Park Saturday afternoon all I need is just one kid to pick up a weapon and say oh I can't do nothing with it because it's locked it's secured I did my job Jerry Washington had a gun lock but didn't know exactly how it all worked and Saturday she learned it'll be easier now now that I know what I'm supposed to do cuz I was blocking it but I was locking it wrong the main message here from the sergeant himself please lock him up make him safe and keep safe Jessica dupnack Fox 2 News and lastly tonight A man successfully Robs a Bank in West Bloomfield wearing what is can only be described as an old person mask take a look The Heist took place at Fifth Third Bank on Hagerty this was on Friday morning now the man allegedly had a gun and took it and took off with an undisclosed amount of cash the suspect had a gray hair or wig and was wearing a gray hoodie and blue latex gloves uh police are still searching for him so anyone with information they're asked to call the W Bloomfield Police well that is going to do it for the HD show tonight make
