Harris-Trump Debate Reaction + September 10 Primary Results

Intro hey everybody today we're going to do a quick recap of yesterday's Harris Trump presidential debate and we're also going to take a look at the last primaries yesterday as well that was in New Hampshire Delaware and Rhode Island so we did a stream for a few hours last night thanks to the few people that did show up I mentioned a lot of my thoughts then and so I'm going to try to go a little quicker through this at the very end after the primaries if there's some time we can go through some of the notable lines so here's the CNN Headline Debate Reaction Harris bests Trump in debate but there's no guarantee it will shape election I'll scroll through here a little bit and give you a few of my quick thoughts so that does seem to be the general takeaway the poll I put up on my own stream also gave Harris the Edge by a little bit was this anything close to dramatic like the last debate with Biden and Trump no not at all I think Harris went into this with a lot more to prove Trump I thought pretty much did what he does every time he comes off is having a lot of confidence he speaks with a lot of Hyperbole and he does take the bait way more often than he should I don't think he melted down or anything but he does get defensive when I don't think he needs to he dodged some questions notably on if he would veto a National Abortion ban also on January 6th Ukraine and I don't think he had a good answer on Healthcare Harris on the other hand did come in with more energy and she put Trump on the defensive a little bit more often at the very beginning she tried to shake Trump's hand that seemed a little bit awkward to me I don't know what that was about but like every politician she also dodged some questions most notably on the economy SL inflation and her flip-flopping on some positions such as fracking so I think she delivered a decent enough performance probably a little bit better than what some people were expecting Trump was pretty much on par with what we were expecting so the Flash polls seem to indicate that Harris did a little bit better how much is that going to matter in a couple of weeks or in a month from now we don't know but given how quick the news cycle has been this political season it's hard to think it's going to have that much staying power unlike the last debate which was a complete Game Changer this was not that but this did give voters some insight into haris if they were looking to see what she's all about the last couple things I'm going to say is in this debate the best thing Trump has going for him is he's not the party in power so haris talking about moving on to the next Generation I think is a good thing however she is the party of in the White House a lot of Voters are totally dissatisfied and they want some change so she can't really turn the page too much because she's technically in office so I think that gives Trump an opening for anybody that looks like their lives are not better over the past four years and finally I'll say that Joe Biden who really did not come up that often he's still technically in office and I think the Fallout from his debate performance last time should have been brought up prior to that debate we kept hearing how sharp Biden is and it was kind of offensive to even bring it up it wasn't until after that debate that Democrats started to turn on Biden so I think that's an important topic that should have been brought up more Harris was super close to Biden so voters might want to know why she thought Biden was so sharp before that debate and what's been going on the past couple of months so those are some of my quick opening thoughts you can also mention how Trump went at it with the debate moderators a couple of times they did try to fact check him more than the other debate there were a couple of notable lines they both had Trump told Harris quiet please when he was talking but the most notable line for me was probably when Trump was talking about the Haitian migrants eating pets so I'm sure the Harris campaign is satisfied with her performance Trump is always going to say he had the best debate ever the reactions from his side are a little bit shakier hopefully there's another debate we'll see if it happens we'll come back to this and take a look at some more the New Hampshire Primary notable lines but let's cover the primary results from yesterday let's start here in New Hampshire we've got an open seat for governor and the Democrats had some competition the winner though is Joyce Craig with 48% over Cindy warmington with 42 Craig is the former mayor of Manchester and she's considered the more establishment candidate on the Republican side the winner as expected former US senator Kelly AI she defeated Chuck Morris with over 63% of the vote so it's going to be Craig and aat going at it in a couple of months I would say aat starts off with the edge but when you have these late primaries who knows what could happen in such a short amount of time in the first congressional district this is held by Democrat Chris papis he only had token opposition on the Republican side it was very competitive the winner is Russell Prescott with 26% he ran previously but lost in the primary he's got experience on the executive Council in the state senate he's going to take on papis and I would say papis has the advant AG but this is much more competitive than the second district and in that District that is actually an open seat for the Democrats they had a primary Maggie goodlander was the winner she beat Callen van ostern with about 64% this is yet another loss for van ostern he previously ran for governor and Secretary of State and also took losses on the Republican side the winner was Lily Tong Williams she won with only about 36% so she's going to face goodlander and goodlander is easily the favorite if you want to take a look at the state senate or the state house it's right here and then down at the bottom we've got the executive councel so there are some potentially important races here to determine the balance of power Delaware Primary let's move on to Delaware The Big Race here is for governor it's an open seat the winner for the Democrats is Matt Meyer with 47% he's the county executive of Newcastle and he beat lieutenant governor Bethany Hall long it's considered a bit of an upset although Hall long did have some discrepancies with campaign Finance so Meyer is going to face Republican Mike Ramone in the general election Ramone had little competition and he is considered the more moderate candidate this is a blue state so Meyer is easily going to start off with the major advantage but again it's an open seat and it's a late primary if something is going to develop here it's going to be later on in October other that we've got lieutenant governor and then the at llarge congressional district this is an open seat and the winner here for the Democrats is Sarah McBride with about 0% on the Republican side the winner is John whan with about 56 McBride again is going to start off with the advantage but we'll see what happens and down here all the way at the bottom if you're looking to see what outgoing Governor John Carney is up to he ran for mayor of Wilmington he had a challenge to win that nomination but he did get it with Rhode Island Primary 54% and finally in Rhode Island at the US Senate race it's going to be incumbent Sheldon White House for the Dems and Patricia Morgan for the Republicans they're going to face off in November White House should win that very comfortably and then down here the two US House races were uncontested on both sides Democrats will certainly hold the first district and are very likely to hold the second district so that concludes the 2024 primaries so some of these candidates still have to be introduced to voters we'll see what happens but October is when everything is is really going to start to take shape and that includes at the top of the ticket for president there's been so much that's happened this year it's really all going to come down to the final few weeks now let's go back to Notable Debate Moments that debate and look at some of the more notable lines pointed out here on New York Times it says here that Harris is bragging about the endorsement of Dick Cheney and Liz Cheney I get it every side is going to brag about when they get an endorsement from the other side but Dick Cheney was the ultimate villain before Trump Democrats absolutely despised this guy so to be proud of that endorsement I don't think is really going to matter much Trump could do the same thing on his side with Kennedy and Tulsi gamard those I think are better endorsements than Dick Cheney next I think this was a low point for trump it says responding to a question about what he would do about Obamacare he says I have concepts of a plan that is a wipe out of an answer because in their question they did say that he's had years to come up with a plan and they even asked him two times so I think he should add it in some sort of detail I think Harris's response on Healthcare is also unsatisfying but trumps was more unsatisfying although at the end he did say that he's going to be having something out there shortly I'm not going to go over all of these this one here says Trump alluding to Harris's past reaction to being interrupted in response to Harris interrupting him he says wait a minute I'm talking now if you don't mind please does that sound familiar I think with the microphones muted Harris was hoping that Trump would start talking and she could come in with a strong moment it didn't really happen and Trump actually used it against her is this a huge moment I don't think so but I still think it's a little amusing we've got hardest pivot Harris trying to explain her policy flip-flops began by talking about her position on fracking and quickly redirected to her middle class upbringing Trump's bankruptcies and her track record of protecting seniors from scams I don't know what else to add to that I think it was an obvious pivot and it was a total dud then we've got a fact check here from the moderators on Trump with abortion they say there is no state in this country where it is legal to kill a baby after it's born now if you're on the Harris side you're going to love how the moderators stepped in there if you're on the Trump side you're going to say they have no business stepping in so that's just going to be however you want to see it now we've got Trump here hitting Harris on her economic plan he says she doesn't have one she copied Biden's plan and it's like four sentences like Run Spot Run four sentences that are just oh we'll try to lower taxes that I actually think is a decent line that's trying to draw more attention to Harris having a lack of depth on her policy positions but also not trying to alienate anybody then we've got the line here which I probably thought was the most notable Trump says in Springfield they're eating dogs the people that came in they're eating the cats they're eating they're eating the pets of the people that live there it's a story that has made the RS recently the moderators again has stepped in against Trump there so I'll leave that up to you to decide how big of a story that actually is Trump on January 6 says I had nothing to do with that other than they asked me to make a speech Trump was weak in that response he's been asked that question many many times I'll give him credit on not really changing its tune but I think that kind of a response might not be helpful to voters that are undecided then we've got Harris hitting Trump on his rallies it says what you'll also notice is that people start leaving his rallies early out of exhaustion and boredom Trump then responded that she has to have people bust into her rallies but I think Trump took de bait there he's always going to defend stuff like that that reflects on his self-image but at the same time Trump is also known to have some pretty massive crowds so I don't know where exactly she's coming from there how about wildest sounding attack line that was basically true Trump says Harris wants to do transgender operations on illegal aliens that are in prison I think the substance here again is hitting Harris at her changing positions and when it comes down to things like this I don't think she gives the greatest response then we've got Trump talking about Biden saying he spends all his time at the beach and later saying that haris should get him out of bed I don't think Biden was really brought up all that much toward the end Harris told Trump that he's running against her or not Biden that line I thought was overly defensive given I think Biden was barely directly brought up and plus she's the VP of Biden I think it's perfectly fair to have brought up Biden at least a Close couple of times anyway there's a few more things on here everybody's going to have their favorite lines the ones they thought landed pretty good the ones that they think flopped it usually depends on how you want to look at it but this was a far different debate than the one with Biden maybe everybody had their expectations low haris seems to come out with the edge who knows if it's going to last or what's going to happen in the final few weeks but I'm
