Florida Gators Football OFFICIAL Depth Chart Release | Biggest Surprises?

welcome back to another episode of rock boys football deal late Wednesday night Billy Napier the Florida Gator coming out with their official dep chart heading into week one against the Miami Hurricanes these are you know personally always some of my favorite episodes to do where D you know we spent all summer all the fall Camp talking about all the different position battles that we're kind of seeing unfold and this is our first opportunity to you know kind of get an understanding of how these position battles you know kind of shook during fall camp now do I expect Bly Napier in the Florida Gators to follow this dep chart to a t absolutely not that being said we do have some interesting takeaways from this dep chart want to get into I think some of the surprises which there certainly are some from this depth chart now before we get into it as always just want to say thank you to you guys and we've talked so much Florida Gator football till over the last seven days obviously with this week one matchup the amount of support y all continue to show to the f is it's it's been amazing we appreciate you guys if you all do enjoy the content consider subscribing to the channel I think much more importantly would love to hear your biggest takeaways your biggest surprises from this depth chart and deal without further Ado let's get into this one I think you got to start with montro Johnson listed as the running back one heading into this match up but when mantro Johnson got hurt to start fall Camp it wasn't panic mode but we were already kind of questioning the depth in that running back room not only from a ball carrier standpoint where I do think Montell Johnson is the best pure ball carrier in this running back room I think more importantly I you're going into a week one matchup against one of your biggest games of the season in a Rowdy environment you know pass from Catching out of the back field those were the kind of things that I thought you would miss most with Montell Johnson to get him sounding like he's gonna play in this football game is probably the biggest takeaway you have from this depth chart besides maybe a little bit of a surprise at right tackle yeah and that's certainly fair to like kind of acknowledge the fact that obviously having him there for the operation is nice but at the end of the day he's one of their best offensive weapons I think you can't again I know a lot of people like oh running backs replaceable this that you like some in college you like some of the young guys coming up through this Florida pipeline obviously very big fans of Jaden B and what he did in that spring game but at the end of the day you you really would miss Montel Johnson in this type of game because he is a playmaker he create things he adds such a he such a big part of that offense last year it's it's huge huge to have him in this game 100% I think the you look at the wide receivers I don't think there's any sort of surprise there I think the biggest surprise on the offensive side of the football is Cam weights winning the right tackle job d i we kind of penciled brenon fraw Dixon and as the starting right tackle really ever since he committed from San Diego State way back in the winter why I am excited exced about this move you make no mistake about it Cameron weights the ceiling on this kid it is extraordinarily high and so if you're telling me CAM weights has come into fall camp and beat out a right tackle and Brandon kotw Dixon who I thought would have been a solid starter for this Florida Gator program I kind of get excited to see what cam weights is going to look like because again this is a kid that coming over from Louisiana we were all really excited about he lost some really good weight D I think he came into Florida 370 pounds which was you probably just a little bit too big he's down to 343 what does Cam we look like and has he reached kind of that ceiling that we all know he has I I think that's a really big storyline here and that's gonna be an interesting one because that was like the first thing that struck out to me I was like a little bit surprised because there were some moments where it just didn't feel like he had tackle athleticism when I was watching back some of the last year's film in his sort of spot duty but yeah you kind of said it I mean guys lost a lot of weight that he that's probably where he should be at at 68 340 PBS that's a pretty I don't want to say lean guy but that's kind of where that tackle range it's going to be you won't probably want to be in that 360 380 kind of range that he may have been hovering in when he first got the Florida so again he's gonna be one I'll certainly have my eye on because he he feels like a bit of a make or break guy I think I love that Austin Barber won that left tackle job I think he might be the most talented offensive lineman on that Florida Gator team but I will have my eyes on Cameron weights and seeing what he he's got because that that now becomes a huge huge piece of this offense my biggest take away and what makes me feel pretty good about cam weights getting slotted in there as a starting right tackle is you go back 12 months ago it was hey Damen George you gotta go play right tackle because we ain't got any other right tackles you have a what I think is a solid right tackle in Brennan crenchaw Dixon so the fact that he beat brandan cruncha Dixon out for that starting spot it makes me feel better about cam weights probably playing some pretty good football for Florida deal one of the other takeaways this is a big offensive line that is what bilon AP wants you go back to the success he had running the football at Louisiana it was big nasty offensive lineman you look at this list I me CAM WS 340 Damen George 345 the only real small offensive lineman here is um Jake slaugher at the center spot outside of that it's all some really really big bodies probably the biggest takeaways maybe one more Amir Jackson coming in I believe he didn't come into the summer a lot of fall Camp Buzz around this kid it might be a contributor to Florida at that tight end position now flipping over to the defense still I think we're you're probably most excited about some of these young Edge rushers that we've talked about all offseason I think specifically you know cam James listed with the OR at the F spot because you look at Jus a spoon and Tyreek Sapp those are known commodity good football players and the fact that cam James is again getting that or designation sounding like he's going to play a lot of football for Florida over the next couple of games I think that's a really good sign too because again you know that if he's listed as an or with Justin Justice Boon and Tyreek sat probably you've seen some Player Development over the last eight months and I am now fascinated to see where they put Tyreek sap because Tyreek sap to me might have been the best defensive lineman on that team last year in terms consistency and he's a versal guy I think again he doesn't necessarily go huge on the weight scale but he's a really really physical Defender I think he can kick in at times and depending on who you're playing and what the down distan is a guy who can play on the inside play on the outside very versatile I'm really interested to see what he does because at the end of the day if Cameron James is ready a rock and roll he's probably a better pure Edge rusher than what Tyreek Sapp is I mean if he assuming keeps the athleticism he had last year and it felt like he was probably playing Far lighter than that 267 they got him list that but of G if he he keeps that same burst explosiveness he played with last year I mean I he was a guy we were really excited about we were talking oh like that's that's kind of what you want your rushers to look like how you want them to move how you want them to attack he had some of those traits kind of deep too like you start looking at the two deep and say all right Joey slackman is going to be rotating with Caleb Banks those are two really good football players and again we've talked about that dud this Florida Gator defensive line for the last two years this is probably the deepest his even with the injury to Lions now one of my conversations that I'm kind of interested is what does the rotation look like for some of those interior guys where you look at the no tackle position and say Dez Watson cam Jackson and then mikai Boro as a true freshman now this kid has decides to play as a true freshman he's 350 pounds he's massive I think lost a little weight from when he committed to Florida I wonder if you let cayb Banks and Joey slackman on some of those third and long situations some of those rush the passer situations maybe kick in because how many reps are you going to get out of Desmond Watson and cam Jackson Desmond Watson sitting at 450 pounds I thought they were trying to get some weight off him I Desmond Watson's gonna be a force on the inside primarily on those run Downs then you get Cam Jackson probably on those pass R Johns who like cam Jackson could get after the passer last year so I'm feeling pretty good about the depth on the inside of the defensive line and D I think one guy that we are both fascinated by his George gums looks certainly looks the part you just said that before we went live but we weren't really sure where he was gonna kind of stack in to this Florida Gator defense where he's coming from the ma was a former wide receiver just a one of those uh players in the transfer portal where I think Billy Napier just bet on him say hey you're not a finished product yet but you have some really Elite traits we're gonna go bet on you and to see him listed as potentially getting in that rotation at that Jack linebacker spot even starting at the Sam I'm kind of excited to see what George GS can bring to this Florida Gator defense I mean the big thing is me beating him beating out purn indicates that he has something it's not just pure athletic potential in that like kind of guy it's again you kind of knew he had that so that was never going to be the question but to beat out Jack purn Jack purn probably isn't have the highest ceiling in the world as an addresser but he's a really really good physical college defensive end if George gums can beat him out that makes me think like Billy Napier is going to trust him to to handle his business down to down but also George gums does give you that exciting potential to really be disruptive and get after it pop Howard winning the linebacker spot with the or with Derek Wingo but I I think we all kind of knew that the best version of this Florida Gator defense is obviously with Shamar James starting a linebacker and then Paul power figuring it out and starting that linebacker that is what you get we talked about this all offseason Ben Roberts combined with two freaky athletic linebackers you fir me up for that they looking at the back end I think my biggest takeaway here is he got Bryce Thorton all the way down to 3D at the safety position I think that tells you more about ASA Turner and DJ Douglas than it does about Bryce dordan because look we knew Bryce dordan played some really solid football as a true freshman ASA Turner and DJ Douglas come in you know exactly what Florida was trying to do there we want to add veteran talent but it sounds like that veteran Talent sounds like they're going to play a lot for this Florida Gator defense that Austin Turn has played a lot DJ Douglas I think is this versatile chess piece that I think you could even see him playing that star position at times kind of excited to see how Florida rotates and uses these players in the back end of the defense and atin Turner feels like another one of those like hinge guys because I go back probably the 2021 or 2022 season AA Turner was playing really good I was like looking at him like you kind of think about that lineage of secondary guys coming out of Washington for that handful of years it felt like he kind of felt like the next guy in line he was making a lot of plays he was physical he was tackling and then the last couple years you saw some moments where it looked a little bit slow at times looked like he wasn't exactly flying around the same way and obviously had been dealing with injuries that like for a pretty long time but if he's back ready to rock and roll and he can give them what he was giving them early in his career at Washington when again that name popped up you're like holy who's this Austin Turner guy he's going to be a really really interesting draft prospect at some point in the future if he comes back and plays healthy and and gives them that sort of energetic fly around the field safety making plays that'll be a really really interesting thing thing to kind of watch for Florida yeah AA Turner 2022 he was a ball player and I think he played in the national championship against Michigan with two broken hands like he was playing with two clubs this this guy's toughest name man AA Turner I'm excited about him not only for the football player but just injecting a you know retric senior that's played a ton of football on the back end to a secondary that last year was at times painfully young uh last takeaway is probably kman mlan not making the three three deep at the quarterback spot and you got a true freshman Teddy Foster who is probably not gonna play for Florida listed ahead of him I wouldn't be surprised if that's a message to kman mlan like hey you got your keep here I I wouldn't be surprised if you see kman mlan pop up in the dep chart maybe week three week four assuming that he kind of puts it together off the field because we know this kid is more talented than Teddy Foster probably better football player than Teddy Foster but I think Billy nap are sending that message that hey you got to earn that starting position the rumors swirling around about Corman mlan I can't remember when they popped up but obviously we all know they there probably was something probably some smoke and that sort of to it then it probably is like okay well that that can't be how you conduct yourself and he also came in late you know he came in late in the process so you're kind of making him ear a spot which I think makes total sense I think that's the way to handle that kman mlan situation D I think those are all the takeaways that we have not not like a ton of surprises I think there's a lot of positive surprises right cam weights potentially a very solid right tackle for Florida obviously Montell Johnson ready to go sounds like some of the young Edge
