Oscar piastri has stated that McLaren will prioritize the F1 Constructor Championship over aiding Londo Norris in his pursuit of catching Max verstappen in the driver's Championship McLaren Trails Red Bull by 40 to points in the constructor's standings but has shown strong performance over the last three months since Norris claimed his first F1 victory at the Miami Grand Prix in early May with pastry finishing second at the Belgian GP Mclaren has now secured Podium finish for the 10th consecutive of Grand Prix Norris is currently 78 points behind championship leader vers Sten with 10 races remaining resuming with the Dutch Grand PRI from August 23rd to 25th the first objective is to win the constructors for the team and I think we've got a very strong chance of doing that piastri told Sky Sports News we've been closing the Gap to Red Bull in the last six or seven races of course I'd like to finish as high as I can in the driver's standings I'm not out of the running for the championship myself but it's a big ask I want to string together good races build consistency and help the team win the constructors if it comes to a situation where I need to help Londo later in the year we will discuss it but the primary target is to win the constructors and perform well personally initially McLaren wasn't seen as a title Contender this season with Red Bull securing one twos in three of the first for races however past's victory at the Gary and Grand PRI marked his first full F1 win placing McLaren in a strong position last year we had a quick car on certain circuits but had to rely on those tracks for good results piastri explained this year we've been quick everywhere which has boosted our confidence and shows we're not just relying on high-speed Corners like before we can be confident of being one of the quickest teams at every race setting us up well for next year I feel like I'm growing in confidence getting better results and learning more in my second year I want to learn and succeed as much as possible this year while aiming for a strong Run next year Norris who finished second in Budapest after conceding the lead to piastri echoed the positive sentiment despite losing to points to verstappen at the Belgian Grand Prix we in a really good place trusting each other and working together well Norris said it's why we're performing as one of the best teams in F1 I'm proud of where we are and it's up to us to maintain this form McLaren's CEO Zack Brown emphasized the Dual importance of both championships to win the constructors we need both drivers to be as high up as possible I'd like to see both drivers in the top three we're going for both championships because all points count it's a great feeling to have 10 podiums in a row competing for both the drivers and Constructor championships is exciting as we head into the summer break there's a lot of work ahead but I'm I'm very happy with everything we've achieved at McLaren
