Zack Brown McLaren's CEO has expressed genuine surprise at the team's rapid Resurgence to the front of the Grid in the 2024 Formula 1 season McLaren now finds themselves just 42 points behind the formidable Red Bull in the Constructor Championship Standings a position that seemed Out Of Reach not too long ago the woking based team made significant strides in 2023 positioning themselves as Red Bull's closest competitors by the end of that campaign however they have continued to build on that momentum in 2024 making an even more impressive Leap Forward this season has seen both Lando Norris and Oscar piastri secure their Maiden Grand Prix victories Norris in Miami and piastri in Hungary their consistent performance has resulted in a remarkable streak of 10 Podium finishes in the last 12 races firmly establishing McLaren as a serious Contender for the constructor's title with 10 races still remaining despite this success Brown admitted in a recent interview with BBC sport that even he did not anticipates it a rapid Ascent if I were to sit here and say I'm not surprised that would be disingenuous Brown revealed I believe we would gradually close the gap but did I think we'd be here at the summer break Just One race away from potentially taking the lead no I didn't it's a testament to the hard work of the team and the drivers but to be honest I thought we might reach this point in 2025 not 2024 but I'm not complaining this season offers McLaren a golden opportunity to CL their first constructor's championship since 1998 when they triumphed with drivers David kard and MAA Hainan the team's consistency has been a key factor with at least one McLaren driver standing on the podium at every race since Norris's breakthrough win in Miami meanwhile Red Bull has faced challenges in retaining their dominance partly due to Sergio Perez's struggles the Mexican driver currently Trails his teammate and Championship leader Max ven by 146 points a gap that has given McLaren a significant Edge in the Constructor race however despite McLaren's strong position Brown remains cautious about their chances it's going to be tough he noted I think it's going to come down to the last race there's not much between the cars it's going to hinge on how Sergio Perez performs if he can deliver it his full potential it's going to be a hard for battle if he continues to struggle we have a pretty good chance Perez has not finished on the podium since the Chinese Grand Prix in April while vapen has maintained a commanding lead in the driver's Championship holding a 78 Point advantage over Norris will also Harvest his own title Ambitions Brown acknowledged that mistakes have been made by both the team and Norris which have cost them valuable points we've all made a variety of Errors which to me are learning experiences Brown said I think because we've reached this level quicker than expected it highlights that we still have a lot to learn we probably should have finished first and second at silverston Lando is learning as he fights for a world championship and Sur as the season progresses McLaren finds itself in an unexpected yet thrilling position the team's rapid advancement has surprised even its leadership and while the constructor's championship is within reach the road ahead is fought with challenges Brown's cautious optimism reflects a realistic understanding of the competition but McLaren's recent form suggests they are more than capable of mounting a serious challenge if they can maintain their trajectory 2024 could be a historic year for the team one that reaffirms their place at the Pinnacle of Formula 1 hello McLaren faithful fans if you love this video make sure to smash that like button drop a comment below and hit subscribe so you never miss any McLaren F1 updates or our unique ASMR content your support is what keeps this incredible Community growing stronger every day let's continue the conversation and share our passion for McLaren F1 together
