AND JUST AS JEFFERSON PARISH PRESIDENT CYNTHIA LEE SHENG JUST SAID SHE WAS TALKING ABOUT ROAD CLOSURES. WELL, BOY, DO WE GOT A ROAD CLOSURE HERE ALL BECAUSE OF THIS GIANT OAK TREE THAT FELL ON SOUTH CLAIBORNE AVENUE IN BETWEEN AUDUBON AND VERSAILLES. IT'S RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET FROM YOURMAN STADIUM. AND AS YOU CAN SEE, THIS GIANT OAK TREE IS BLOCKING 3 LANES OF TRAFFIC. I WANT TO SHOW YOU A LITTLE BIT MORE OF HOW THE TREE SPLIT INTO 2. SO IT WASN'T THE TRUNK OF THE TREE. YOU CAN SEE THAT IS STILL STANDING. THE ROOTS ARE STILL THERE. THIS IS JUST A GIANT BRANCH THAT CAME DOWN AND I'M TALKING ABOUT THIS TREES ABOUT 60 TO 70 FEET TALL. THIS IS A MAJOR TREE IN UPTOWN. WE HAVE LOTS OF THESE BEAUTIFUL OAK TREES. SO IT'S NO WONDER THAT ONE OF THESE FELL DURING THE STORM BECAUSE OF THE HIGH GUSTY WINDS. AND I MEAN, CHECK THIS OUT. THIS IS A PRETTY STURDY, HEAVY BRANCH. I MEAN, IT'S A HEFTY AND BECAUSE THIS GIANT TREE FELL, THERE IS THIS ROAD CLOSURE. AND I WANT TO SHOW YOU HOW THEY'RE CONTROLLING THE TRAFFIC RIGHT NOW. YOU SEE AND OPD IS RIGHT HERE IN THE MIDDLE OF SOUTH CLAIBORNE AVENUE AND VERSAILLES, MAKING SURE THAT NO CARS COME DOWN AND JUST ABOUT 30 MINUTES AGO, THERE WAS A TRUCKER. HE HAD A LIQUOR DELIVERY YET TO GET TO THE LIQUOR STORE DOWN ON BROADWAY. AND I DIDN'T REALIZE LBJ NANNY, BUT THIS IS A MAJOR TRUCK ROUTE RIGHT THERE. YOU SEE THE SIGN ON THE LIGHT THAT SAYS TRUCK ROUTE. SO AS THE SUN COMES UP, THERE'S GOING TO BE MORE TRUCKERS TRYING TO GET DOWN SOUTH CLAIBORNE SO THEY CAN MAKE THEIR FOOD THEIR LIQUOR DELIVERIES, YOU KNOW, SO THAT COULD BE A PROBLEM LATER ON. I ASKED THEN APD OFFICER IN HIS CAR WHEN THEY THINK THEY'RE GONNA BE ABLE TO GET A CREW OUT HERE TO START REMOVING THIS TREE. AND HE SAYS IT JUST KIND OF ALL DEPENDS. BUT THEY GOT THE REPORT 3 HOURS AGO, ALMOST 4 HOURS AGO NOW. SO HE'S BEEN HERE THE WHOLE TIME, JUST MAKING SURE THAT HE CAN DIVERT THE TRAFFIC. AND SO RIGHT NOW, UPTOWN, I'VE BEEN DRIVING AROUND EARLIER AND WE NOTICED THAT THE POWER IS BACK ON IN THIS AREA. BUT FURTHER DOWN THE POLI IN AND BROUGHT MORE AREA, THE POWER WAS STILL AND LOTS OF PEOPLE HEEDED THE WARNINGS ABOUT FLOODING. IT DOESN'T SEEM LIKE THERE'S FLOODING PROBLEM ANYMORE. THE WATERS RECEDED, BUT SEVERAL CARS ARE STILL ON THE NEUTRAL GROUND. YOU SEE THEM IN THE DISTANCE. SO THAT'S WHAT WE'RE DEALING RIGHT NOW. GIANT OAK TREE IN THE MIDDLE OF SOUTH CLAIBORNE NAYLOR YEOMAN STADIUM STORM DAMAGE CAN BE SEEN THROUGHOUT THE CITY OF NEW ORLEANS. YEAH. >> CAN TELL US YOU'RE OUT THERE RIGHT NOW? ID? ARE YOU SEEING MORE PEOPLE COMING OUT AS THE SUN STARTS TO RISE AND TAKING A LOOK AT THE DAMAGE THAT'S OVER THERE IN UPTOWN. >> KNOWING ME IT'S BEEN VERY QUIET. HAVEN'T REALLY SEEN ANY PEOPLE COMING OUT THERE STAYING AT HOME AS THE SUN COMES OUT. I'M SURE WE'RE GOING TO START TO SEE MORE. BUT WE HAVE SEEN MORE CARS TRYING TO COME DOWN SOUTH CLAIBORNE BECAUSE MANY PEOPLE ARE GOING TO WORK OR MANY PEOPLE HAVE STUFF TO DO TODAY. BUT AS I SAID, THEY'RE BEING DIVERTED RIGHT HERE NEAR YEOMANS, STADIUM. THEY HAVE TO GO BACK TOWARDS NAPOLEON. SO IF YOU'RE LIVE IN UPTOWN AND THIS IS THE ROAD YOU NORMALLY TAKE TO GET TO WORK A RUN YOUR ERRANDS, YOU CAN TAKE SOUTH CLAIBORNE. I MEAN, THIS IS THE ROAD I TAKE TO GET TO WGNO DAILY. SO IF I WASN'T ALREADY WORKING, I WOULD HAVE TO TAKE THIS ROAD TO GET DOWN. YOU REALLY CAN'T MISS THIS TREE. WHETHER THE POWER'S OUT OR NOT. I MEAN, WE SAW THIS TREE FROM PRETTY FAR AWAY AS WE WERE DRIVING DOWN. I MEAN, IT IT'S BIG.
