[Music] afternoon and you know at the end of the day they're coming from that match that they had in the kav championship uh W cup and it's interesting to see after what they did in that game the two only substitutions is Jones and do camper in the starting Lup Morgan and West ball they both stay on the bench um they come from that game against Santa Fe they won 2 N and at the end of the day like we mentioned before it's trying to start scoring those goals see what different Faith they can get from San Diego to make it um in a better situation coming into this next pH a week ago felt good for messiah break to score not once or twice but three times in starts up front here today that was a important game it was a friendly but still gives you a good idea of what can happen coming forward and at the end of the day these two sides they face each other in August 1st and you know when you have a team that does something that you like which is exactly what coach decided uh she's repeating that same starting lineup that she used in the League's nwsl summer cup to give an idea of what it's going to be expected that game ended up being a nil nil draw but at the end coming from the penalty kicks um Angel City end up taking that extra point Squad here at home mentioned the now inim head coach for San Diego Landon Donovan everybody knows that name it was announced a little more than a week ago and he sees his now Side San Diego wave after the longtime coaching and scouting and GM type role with San Diego loyal in USL Championship now here with the nwsl for the at least the rest of this current 2024 season yeah he was announced as an intering we'll see if he ends up staying or what but he was excited to coach this team Angel City plenty of opportunities plenty of speed there's bright looking to score right off the Jump that would have set a record she said last week for the quickest goal in club history by a few seconds if that went down scored in the first minute last week almost did it again here talk about Messiah bride is ready to do less than 30 second and she's already putting herself in that attacking third situation creating one first you know shot towards the goal um at the end it's just the early start of the match and we'll see how much she's capable of up front Alysa Thompson Messiah brigh CLA emsley always look for those and you've got plenty of options that can come on with some speed as well Off the Bench saw the starting 11 just joining us though for Angel City Curry Gordon Reed and Spencer across the backline in front of hich Spencer trying to get on this one with Hammond and dhy Howard Howard rather holding in the mid with Fuller Thompson bright and emley touch off the left wing now for yakob son has the step on Reed and that should be an early Corner yes in the second minute here Megan Reed scoring her first professional goal in that friendly against FC Warez we'll have to defend here waiting for the opening Corner second minute left footed straight ball sent in near the spot it's loose and controlled momentarily and reserved in punched out AIC with the strong touch sent right back in and we'll get Corner number two now in the third and we can start adding that uh nice performance like always by DD harage so far you know just another match for her starting it's her 14 starting lineup in this season and 45 save so far so always proving how big she can be in the goal up there in the top five of the nwsl in [Applause] saves Another Second Ball off of a corner this reverse though set down immediately both of these teams have plenty of attacking options hoping to get them involved as LST is going to win a throw I think that's the biggest problem with both teams you know they have really great players in attack but at the end the goals hasn't haven't come yet San have only scored uh 12 goals third with less goals scored in the whole season whereas Angel City have scored only 16 and they're fourth with the less goal scored so far so that has to be what makes the difference for them if they want to make it a play of goals need to start coming now the names that we already mentioned for Angel City how about some folks on the bench though like Sydney loru oh and on the other side Alex Morgan is available Off the Bench as well two of the greatest scorers in any WSL league history continuing to climb inside the top 10 the only difference is that saru has four goals scored D season whereas Alex Morgan none and you know that has been really uh a big I don't know if understatement because she started uh like always being Alex Morgan she was in the uh Gold Cup you know she ended up being called last minute she scored there and then she just hasn't been able to score part of the Olympic team that was a tough one was in the news shocked many outside the soccer World you saw the performance and how young and talented How deep the player pool is you can understand it and you know it's not about a lacking of trying or creating chances I I was seeing her in the Santa Fe game and you can see the frustration coming in her cuz she put herself in a few good positions to score a goal but at at the end she wasn't cap capable of doing so and and you can see how frustrated she is even when she was benched she wasn't happy because she knew maybe she could have find herself uh scoring a goal again interesting to see what the reaction will be again another style of leadership with Landon Donovan that player like her quite really two of the greatest you think about in terms of American score for yeah it's they're one in one certainly hopes for a a partnership there that uh can lead them to the postseason and Beyond let's let's not forget this is a San Diego team that won the shield last year first in the regular season with 37 points Orlando actually has already surpassed that number did that last night had a fantastic year so is Kansas City it's crazy what Orlando's doing this season competition by winning the shield and then Portland is the other represent representative uh also Gotham FC but they're playing until um weak to it both have the buy with the draw with the odd number teams per group this is Madison curry with the soft touch looking for Fuller great chance for Brien the opening seconds but since then it's rather settled as the teams get back into it as been Spencer the touch there coming up on 200 career games likely not going to get there this year that's in the nwsl in the regular season at 187 only 10 regular season games left but if make a run it's 30 points um and you know that can truly make the difference and coming Landon dunan you know he's deu in the nwsl in a rivalry game it's always complicated the bragging rights are are there um this is match number 11 between these two sides each have three wins and then it's uh four draws so far in all competitions so it it's clear that this is going to be a really important point and if Landon gets a win it's going to be interesting for them or if Becky TW each side get to same you have to think for both of these teams you can get somewhere between 15 to 20 points somewhere in there yeah out of these final 10 matches you have to like your chances to be inside the top eight last year that point of demarcation now granted it's not a fair comparison because two more teams this year a couple more games this year but last year that line was in the low3s in points expect it to be mid-30s in points this year to ensure yourself playing Into The Knockout top eight teams out of 14 for the nwsl championship this year some room off the left side on the attack yakobson crosses through finds a lane it's just wide would not have counted though offside flag did come up and and this is exactly what San Diego is capable of doing without having the ball cuz they don't necessarily have it all the time figuring out how to open those pockets and with players like this you know Jacobson she's so capable of doing this coming in from that Left Flank and then just putting that ball over there strong strike from Maya Jones one goal this year 42nd overall pick in this year's draft came off the bench in that Santa Fe game on Tuesday Alex Morgan did start again it's a quick turn around Tuesday to Saturday moderate to significant travel involved and talk about um yet lag I don't want to be know I had the privilege to do that game and to be honest I was kind of crying cuz the faces of everybody you know at the end you don't you know as a teammate as a soccer player you know what it feels and everybody was compelled with her even the referees everybody it was such an emotional moment and then you can see her face of I did it I'm back and we'll see what happens you know she was smiling she was really joking with the fourth official there were some great crowd sounds where she was getting set to come in and then within the first 15 seconds when she was on the she had a great chance and she just smiled it went High Over the Bar it would have had to have been a golden strike but certainly within the realm of possibility so we may see press come back did appear in a second summer Cup game as well after that but certainly everyone will be watching and man what that could do for this Angel City team CLA emley tossing away some of the microphones now ready with the serve in what can you not say about there H Ley whenever she just sees that opening she'll just turn the Jets on and that's exactly what she does what a great ball here by the way and then she was able to win it against um who was it um Kennedy and and and then just put herself in that position of getting that good shot well done in that one by sherid Danel this allowing mle to get her seventh goal of the season six goals in terms of regular season competition seven goals in all competitions and that seven goal total equals emsley's combined first three nwsl seasons combined also all comps there what's been most impressive whenever she is in an area she puts it on frame now 14 of 16 shots have been on target so certainly do expect some chances in transitional moments likely Advantage Angel City in those given the 7-n win led by brigh who keeps it in near the flag as Alyssa Thompson nearby instead goes to the edge of the 18 where dhy Howard has pushed up towards the back post and headed out by Kristen McNab and a corner yeah they forc mcav just to be able to clear that ball away as fast as possible cuz you know when you have empy rooming around you knows what can happen that's what she does hasn't you know it's that doability of having the ball or not having it and then just not being able to move more C clearly towards the scoring a goal acceleration step from Bright got past one and go and get that ball at the end not even um number six Hannah list make it possible for her to see if she can stop her but what Alisa Thompson just did just did right now was great in getting that goal scored slightly mouch there off the right boot tosa did the rest yeah I think Shan that was a research that she had you know like you got to put yourself out there this allow her but she was such a clever player in going to her left side and then just being able to finish that one pretty cool when your sister Kristen press and Sydney lure all celebrate with you but but from the the bench how about that shot talk about uh pictures that can you know be important for you and that's Shar on not believing what just happened there cuz it's not easy to score against her you know she has only conceded 17 goals this season out of those 17 of course all the 17 are the same goals ConEd well now 18 um cuz she's made 60 save that's like such a big number for her you know five of them have been clean sheets that number will not grow today y as we were talking about though Angel City and they certainly have controlled the possession in this one but it takes just one bounce of the ball and that speed and that skill just been the finishing ability that's been lacking not there though and a great start to the second half of this regular season for Angel City sixth goal contribution for Thompson five assists entering today tied for fourth best in the league and did score in that 7 nothing explosion in the friendly against FC Warez little less than a week ago last [Music] Saturday four goals last year now five in the career in terms of regular season action and she's kind controverted with those five assists you know so it's clear offside here that was tight emley did not think so no that was tight but now she needs to take care of that and not start falling into offside position middle of the pack on offs this year upside six in the leag so right in the middle no in terms of being offside not three times per game yeah it's not been a huge huge problem some may say it's actually great when you're offside a bunch getting chances you want them to count if they do go down but you know the your opponent can start knowing that you're doing that and they themselves stay back so they can force you to get into an offside position and dangerous game to play especially late in the Underworld you can call it a save you know whenever you got those games that is like 10 offside position that was 10 times that you couldn't keep moving forward because you were too hesitating or like just playing at a different pace that's one of the best rules from soccer oh it's it's much needed or this would be a drastically drastically different look as everyone whatever you wanted I like that Thompson goes from four career regular season goals to six and Angel City now if you include the friendly in the last 120 have scored nine times that Dr drastically changes things here but still an hour to go Hammond clears away but that's when Sheridan's going to want back no doubt Thompson got to an area everyone knows the speed and greater own space and there it results in another goal and you know the two players that are like not good in the situation coming of the two goals and I'm guessing what they're reviewing the video of the this game next week uh both Han and long B and both uh sharidan kayen sharidan they're going to be like how did this happen you know this is going to be a video for exactly what not to do whereas a goalkeeper or just a a left back trying to go forward cuz you you can't allow your opponent to steal two balls from you and score two goals you know it's bottom line at the end you have to have short memory uh get yourself back into the game forget about that and keep moving forward but this is a a 2-n I mean it 30 not good and at home the Landon Donovan era has not started has the wave faithful or anyone surrounding San Diego would have liked it's precisely what Angel city's been looking for and if there was any I know we have a lot of time to go if there was any consternation or thinking by Becky tweet can I get Kristen press into it twice and from similar uh positioning herself both off that left side side where Thompson starts in the primary tactical alignment today for Becky Tweed from the looks of that does appear Thompson to have all of that added on again another kind of impromptu timeout for San Diego to try and regroup with the intention at the very least to get back into form and system and if that comes with Goal coming in at least she now has two goals and hopefully that can open you know the opportunity for more more in this uh 10 games well including this one it's going to be nine more games to play in the there I don't want to be there out in the stadium it must be really hot see welcoming the nwsl back post Olympics maybe a slight damper for the home crowd the two United States gold medal winners on the San Diego roster both Jaden Shaw and Naomi germa who was just fastic in Paris you know it's notable it's not that bad it's 76 I love San Diego so it's perfect it doesn't very often get above 85 if interpreting what occurred maybe missed it that's the benefit of the doubt that they missed that action that was a a wicked collision and you're always quickly you're always going to think that they're like trying to lose time or something but it it didn't seem this was the case I don't think so at all and we'll likely see this go plus seven now or more than that add that on to stoppage time at a certain point it will be the referee the only one knowing just how much time remains again coming up next week San Diego hosts Washington at 5:00 local time and next Sunday Angel City is home for
