Who will be our next Yokozuna? (Mid '24 Sumo Rankings: The Dohyo: E151)

hello we're back and we're wondering who will be our next Yokozuna SRO H the Sal get in the ring welcome to the hello and welcome back to the doo here on Mr jwags Channel we are back we are doing our mid 2024 Sumo rankings we've already updated the charts of our tiers we have just shot our who will be our next ozeki episode which should have been out before this one and now we are updating our who will be our next Yokozuna rankings and as before I am ranking the next nine boso or 18 months of sumo who is most likely to make Yokozuna over the next year and a half or by the end of 2025 now the Yokozuna rankings tend to be a bit shorter than the oi rankings just because there are just fewer plausible wrestlers who are could possibly win two boso in a row or the equivalent but of course we know that's not a hard and fast rule check this one out we've already talked about [Applause] it number four on the list oi takao now I love takao I love the battle hamster so much but if we look at his past year and a half you cannot say that this is a young healthy Ricochet who's doing his best work right now since January 2023 when takao won his third Y show we have had eight bosos since then and of those eight tournaments he has had one yho and five Cujo including his last three consecutive BOS show one of them was like an eight and out so he didn't go caban in the middle but he still had to leave for injury reasons in the last three tournaments now we keep forgetting takao is only 27 about to turn 28 but that is still should be right in the meat of his Peak physically but it just seems that the miles and the extra weight and this neck injury that has not seemed to go away over the past year are just keeping him down uh I would be surprised if he is still in ozeki nine BOS from now let alone a Yokozuna sorry number three on the list oi hodu and I think this is going to be a little controversial now I love hosu but I think he is currently at his ceiling I definitely think hodu is one of our three best current sumo wrestlers but I just don't see him having the consistency to get two yho a row he's topped out at 12 wins which he's done once he has exactly one Jun USA right now which tells me he's not really contending for these usho down the stretch mix that in with a smaller than average body and a habit of like 50/50 losses to like madori Fuji and Ura and that tells me he is not quite ready but he is young enough that he could have another step to his physical development his mental development and his overall Sumo I mean being the third best Suma wrestler is really really awesome I just see him behind these other two over the the next nine tournaments I still think there's more there for hodu now hodu has been doing very well holding his own up in the sanyaku especially for a younger smaller wrestler but he has lost five consecutive matches to current oaki Koto zaka so I think if he's going to keep losing random matches to midm gashira in the first week he really needs to get over this kotaka hump and he is quite a hump number two seiw onosato okay yeah uh I wasn't planning on putting Ono at on this list but then I was looking through all the wrestlers and he clearly belongs on it even though he's not even yet an ozeki I do not see a world where onosato stays healthy for the next year and is not an ozeki thus I could easily see him becoming oi and then having a real great debut and then possibly launching himself into a Yokozuna belt by the end of 2025 I see this as completely plausible he's only 24 he has an amazing Sumo body he's already shown brilliant technique that coupled with the fact he never ever had a losing record and that he has just had his best record in the top division of sumo all the way up in the sanyaku this tells me he's improving as he's going now onosato is 0 and3 versus hodu but in the last tournament he managed to beat kotak and he has gotten a Koshi against a healthy Teran ofuji I mean not healthy but an available and wrestling Teran Fuji and then if we look down through the rest of the sanyaku and like the wrestlers we often see in the joy he has a 9 and0 record record against them that includes Dao ABI wakamoto hadu takao kishima all these guys he has never lost to them uh it is a very very small sample size but you can't get better than 9 and0 so yeah if he can go 50/50 against kazaka and then manage to beat hodu once in a while I don't know who is going to regularly beat him in 2 years I feel it is more likely than not that onosato will be a Yokozuna uh that just the question is can he do it in the next nine tournaments or can he do it before our next wrestler now other than takaa we have these three wrestlers here and uh they're all really good and in fact I don't think takao is going to make Yokozuna in his career which hurts but I do think that if healthy all of these top three will eventually make Yokozuna if not in the next nine tournaments and number one and this one surprised me a little bit too but it's Koto zaka everything seems to be pointing into this being Koto Zak's moment to make a move while he is still looking for that first US show I consider that 13-2 playoff loss in January to Teran ofuji to be roughly a US show equivalent remember hodu and onosato have never gotten a 13 and two ever that combined with a great Sumo body continued health and he's starting to build up his Swagger I say the best chance for us to have a Yokozuna in the next nine boso Koto zaka please let me know what you think hit me down in the comments do you agree with this list is there anyone you think is a strong chance to make Yokozuna in the next nine boso that I did not talk about thank you so much for watching us here on the doyo please if
