Day 8 - July '24 (Sumo Quick Strike! - The Dohyo: E153)

coming to you from the work desk it's day eight and it's time for a quick [Music] strike hello and welcome to the doo here on Mr jwags Channel things are actually a little busy for me this morning so I don't have time to set up the shot in the corner with the radiator but we are here at the work desk ready for a quick strike here on day eight of course quick strike is a quick to aized Amo B of an episode that we release mid boso to keep us hungrier for more Sumo but of course spoilers abound if you have not watched through day eight of the July 2024 tournament stop watch through day eight and return to us so after day eight it looks like we have both the most expected result and the least expected result Yokozuna terano Fuji is 8 and0 oh all right now I did not expect this I expected Teran Fuji to go Cujo in the first week and he has looked good he has not looked as dominant as I have seen him look in the past obviously he's still dealing with a lot of injuries to the back and knees and while he is still undefeated a couple of these matches have been very close including the one against Ur yesterday so I would not be surprised if someone puts dirt on him in the second week he's only faced one member of the sanyaku so far and it was Hiro Umi and Hiro Umi is actually doing pretty well but I I would consider Hiro do Umi a top level opponent for Teran Fuji and at this point the question isn't like can one person put dirt on Teran Fuji it's like can multiple people put dirt on Teran Fuji in the second week and I think they can but the reason why we need multiple people is that the second place Ricochet are already at six and two so we have two losses to make up one of the reasons I waited till today to do is because yesterday we had like just an insane just clump of people at 5 and two and I just wanted to see if that was going to resolve itself up and it did thank goodness so now we only have three people tied for second place at six and two ozeki kotak M gashira 10 Shai and mosir 12 churan no Umi now obviously Koto Zak was my yo pick so I'm not I'm not surprised he's up here I I expect him to keep doing well he's had a couple weird little losses but I think he's still doing fine and looked very good in the ring Shai a surprisingly looking spry he's one six in a row a couple with his his patented cartoon Sumo uh I I don't expect him to do that well if he gets aggressively promoted but that would be a fast fasinating story wouldn't it now chano Umi he's 31 it's his fifth makuchi tournament he's never really done that well I think his best tournament makuchi is nine wins way down here in mishira uh I think he's having a great first week but if he gets promoted aggressively all down the stretch I think we're going to see some holes in the game of churan noomi I don't see this as like a a churan noomi Rance and then one step below that we have a whole bunch of people down at at 5 and three like at least 12 wrestlers including some of our favorites like onos you and and my June us show pick wakataka KAG now five and three uh you could still see someone in the Y show race from the from the five and three group but they would have to pretty much win out at this point the qjo picture has expanded a bit since day one uh I know I predicted that t ruuji was going to get a Kachi Koshi he ended up starting he started the tournament Cujo but has come back and won his first matchback which tells me uh he's got a bit of fighting shape in him I don't think he's going to get a Kachi Koshi that would require him winning his next seven in a row but if he's back and winning a couple matches that means he's not going to drop all the way down to makush and and making a comeback from judio is so much easier than making it from makush so good luck Tak ruuji heal up and get enough wins to have a good judio rank next tournament mishira 15 chioa also started Cujo has come back and won a couple matches good for him glad to see he's healthy however M gashira takayasu onosho and asanoyama have all on Cujo and oo ay looked real bad looks like he has torn his ACL he is going to be out for at least 6 months it looks like and that just looks real bad for us in oyama he was already coming back from the covid suspension and wasn't doing as well as we had hoped getting a lot of Cujo this is not going to help his overall health or confidence uh and I I would not be surprised if this is the last we see from Austin oyama question is is does he want to come back and just like maybe hang out the paid ranks for a bit I just I think any chance of upper sanyaku is gone now he's just twoo and now just now he's got a real bad knee sorry asanoyama it was a good run now we have two ozeki who are trying to fight their way back to the rank uh we have like double kadan oaki wake kishima and he started off with a three and0 record great and then he ended up losing like four of his next five which is not good so he's at four and four right now which is uh I think he's still on track to make the prediction was I think he's going to get Kachi Koshi but I do not think he's going to hold the ozeki rank I that's just a it's a too far at this point even though he has already faced six of the eight sanyaku I just I I just don't see him having the strength to pull this one off he only has one more loss and a whole week to go now takao who is only kaban which means he only need eight wins to comeb back he's a three and five which is a slightly better position than kishima but he has only faced three of eight sanyaku members so he of course is going to have a much tougher second week and again I am not optimistic about taka Show's chances at this point slightly happier new judio 10 shishi is having a great tournament and stands alone a top of the judio bonsuk right now with a seven and one record I would love to see that Ukrainian win his first Jud youu show go on shishi with to bad s all right this has been a really interesting BOS show so far let's see if anyone can put dirt on terano Fuji in the second week thank you for coming and I will see you again on our next quick strike for
