I'M BLAYNE STU, WHERE WE ARE GOING TO START RIGHT NOW WITH AN UPDATE TO THAT HORRIBLE STORY THAT BROKE THIS MORNING OUT OF NEWPORT NEWS WHERE A 15 YEAR-OLD WAS SHOT AND KILLED IN A NEIGHBORHOOD. LET'S GET RIGHT TO NEWS. 3 REPORTER COLTER AND STAT LIVE THIS AFTERNOON ON 16TH STREET NEAR CHEST THAT AVENUE. I KNOW YOU'VE BEEN THERE FOR A FEW HOURS NOW. COLD OR WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED SO FAR? WELL, PLANE, I BLAINE, I CAN TELL YOU THE SCENE IS ESSENTIALLY CLEAR SAFER. ONE POLICE SUV HERE BESIDE ME, THE 1200 BLOCK OF 16TH STREET WHEN THE SCENE WAS ACTIVE THIS MORNING, THE POLICE ACTIVITY APPEAR TO BE PRIMARILY FOCUSED. >> ON THIS INTERSECTION HERE BEHIND ME AT 16TH STREET AND GARDEN BELIEVE WE HAVE SOME VIDEO FROM THE SCENE. >> WE CAN SHOW YOU. I'VE BEEN SPEAKING WITH SOME PEOPLE WHO LIVE AT THE APARTMENT COMPLEX HERE IN THE 1200 BLOCK OF 16TH STREET. THEY DIDN'T WANT TO GO ON CAMERA, BUT THEY TELL ME, AS YOU CAN PROBABLY IMAGINE, THIS IS SAD AND CRAZY. AS WE'VE BEEN REPORTING, POLICE SAY OFFICERS CAME TO THIS AREA JUST BEFORE 6.30, THIS MORNING AFTER GETTING AN ALERT FROM A SHOT SPOTTER, A SHOT SPOTTER IS A TOWER. POLICE SET UP. >> TO TRY TO HELP DETECT GUNSHOTS. POLICE SAY WHEN THEY GOT HERE, THEY FOUND A JUVENILE SHOT. THEY HAVE SINCE IDENTIFIED THAT JUVENILE AS A 15 YEAR-OLD. I DID SPEAK WITH ONE WOMAN ON CAMERA WHO SAYS SHE RIDES HER BIKE THROUGH THIS AREA MOST DAYS. SHE TELLS ME SHE RODE HER BIKE TO THE SCENE THIS MORNING WHEN SHE HEARD WHAT WAS GOING ON. SHE SAYS AS A MOTHER, SHE CAN IMAGINE WHAT THE MOTHER OF THE 15 YEAR-OLD SHOT AND KILLED MIGHT BE GOING THROUGH. SHE ALSO SAYS SHE BELIEVES THERE NEEDS TO BE MORE DONE TO HELP KIDS TRY TO PREVENT TRAGEDIES LIKE THIS. >> THEY BELIEVE THE OTHER THING, BUT THEN NOT BEEN FOR THE U. THEY HAVE NOWHERE TO GO. SO THEY TAKE TO THE STREETS, SOCIAL MEDIA. IT TOUCHED MY HEART BECAUSE THIS IS A YOUNG CHAP. GOING TO SCHOOL. DIDN'T MAKE IT TO SCHOOL LIFE WITH TOOK IT. THE SAINTS. >> NEWPORT NEWS PUBLIC SCHOOLS HAS RELEASED A STATEMENT SAYING A SUPPORT TEAM WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR STUDENTS AND STAFF AND THE SCHOOL DISTRICT'S THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS ARE WITH THE TEENS. FAMILY. POLICE HAVE NOT IDENTIFIED THE 15 YEAR-OLD SO FAR. NO ARRESTS HAVE BEEN MADE. NEWPORT NEWS IS POLICE. HE DID SPEAK WITH REPORTERS HERE ON SCENE THIS MORNING, THOUGH, HE SAYS INFORMATION IS COMING IN AND INVESTIGATORS WILL RELY ON TECHNOLOGY AND WITNESS STATEMENTS.
