ACL last October so he goes from injured to potentially helping an injury riddled secondary that the Giants are dealing with right now and he talks about the Giants needed to add safety depth Jason pinck danne Belton Tyler nuban and Alex Johnson the udfa out of UCLA who was a corner switch to safety are the only healthy safeties right now on the roster javarus Owen he's dealing with the knee Elijah Riley a concussion and Jaylen Mills a calf injury are sidelined with injuries so the Giants a little bit depleted in the safety room with a game coming up in a couple of days against the Houston Texans they go out they sign Lane and add someone to the safety depth chart we're going to give you an in-depth scouting report on Lane and his chances to crack that 53 man roster but first seasons in the NFL with the Los Angeles Chargers just hasn't had really much of an opportunity due to that injury last year and really much playing time in his NFL career he has just seven tackles in 11 career NFL games here's some more stuff on him in 2017 from 2022 he was a part of that Indiana hooers football team where he played in 50 career games in five years he's was a udfa in 2022 who ended up signing with the Los Angeles Chargers and he spent the last two years there but then was placed on injured reserve last October after tearing his ACL a game I like to play When the Giants sign these back end of the roster guys is this have you ever heard of Raheem Lane don't lie I'm gonna be honest I really hadn't heard much about him so as soon as the giant signed him I started to do a deep dive to try to get you guys every bit of information I could so you could learn about him be honest though who are the real NFL junkies out there let me know your thoughts why for yes and for no all right let's we know he's a safety let's work backwards and let's see where he lines up on the football field in two years 11 games played one start he's lined up three times on the defensive line not as a defensive line and most likely working off the edge to help and run support or get after the passer 20 snaps inside the box so you will see him sometimes if he does make this team walk down into the box and be a run support guy but he mainly operates as that free safety 63 snaps there and he also has some experience working as a slot Corner 15 snaps there here are his career Pro Football Focus grades look not a lot of really snaps out there so the stample size is very limited but let's talk about it 61.5 overall grade back in 2022 when he played in six games four La 68.1 run defense grade 80.1 tackling grade so he got the job done as a tackler there showed that he could be a guy that could walk down in the box and help you defend and stop the run and that's is going to be a main main responsibility of Shane Bowen when it comes to fixing this defense can the Giants stop the run they were not able to do that under wink marale struggling coverage both years though 62 and a half grade his rookie year 48 grade his second year and as you see on the right side of the screen his overall run defense and tackling grade all plumed in his second year in the National Football League the facts are the facts here Raheem Lane will have to fight for a roster spot he was not signed I believe with any any guaranteed money most likely he's going to be getting that veteran a minimum deal but the giant safety room even though it has some injuries to it they've got their guys already with Tyler nuben Jason pinck and danne Belton going to be the leading snap Getters for those for that position so he's going to have to fight to make this team and a way that he can do that is by continuing what he's done and wear the hat of being a special team specialist if you are on the roster bubble or you're trying to take up one of those final 12 to 15 roster spots you got to be able to play the position you play at a pretty high level but you're also going to have to be able to contribute on special teams and luckily for Lane he has done that so far 41 snaps on kick return 55 snaps on Kick coverage 43 on punt return 15 on punt coverage and a PFF grade of 68.1 his rookie year and 75.9 in his sophomore season so he has a lot of reps there and he has produced in a really good fashion just not sure if he's going to be able to crack the team because you look at this safety depth chart and like we talked about you know pinok who is one of my favorite players on the team shout out to Jay Penny one of the most underrated athletes as well in this league Dane belon I think he is someone that is going to explode this year for the New York Giants he was he's the guy that's always right spot right time always around the football and I think that is a reflection of his football IQ Elijah Riley someone the giant signed a couple of weeks ago he's going to try to fight to make this team you got Tyler nuban the rookie second round pick he looks like he's already impressing you guys know I love Jarius Owens and I am not sleeping on Alex Johnson the udfa he's made some plays early on in training camp but the way that lane can make this team is if injuries continue to stack up and as you can see Jaylen Mills is dealing with an injury of his own and he is currently on the NFI list has not practiced at all in training camp for the New York Giants we're three weeks into training camp we're coming up on the second preseason game and I'm going to go back to what Shane Bowen said about DNE belt he said it is his job to lose when it comes to that starting safety spot then a reporter asked what about Tyler nubin who at the beginning of Camp if you remember was dealing with injuries of his own he said how are you going to get better if you don't practice so I'm going to talk about jayen mser how is he going to get better learn this scheme and make the roster if he does not practice yes he's a veteran I get it but if you're not going to be
