STAFF IN HONOR OF HIM. SHIFTING NOW TO OTHER NEWS, PARTS OF THE METRO HIT PRETTY HARD BY THUNDERSTORMS OVER THE WEEKEND. THIS IS A LOOK AT MAPLE GROVE LAST NIGHT, AND THE LIGHT SHOW THAT YOU COULD SEE UP THERE. YOU CAN SEE HOW HARD THE RAIN IS HITTING THE GROUND. JUST AN INCREDIBLE AMOUNT OF LIGHTNING TO STREAKING ACROSS THE SKY AND IN THE SOUTH METRO RAIN POURING DOWN HERE IN RICHFIELD. STRONG WIND GUSTS REPORTED THROUGHOUT THE NIGHT. TWO TREES COLLAPSING ON PARKED CARS IN SOUTH MINNEAPOLIS, SOME TREES COVERING PART OF THE ROAD, OTHERS COVERING THE ENTIRE STREET, AND THOSE STRONG STORMS HAVE ALSO LEFT MANY IN THE METRO WITHOUT POWER ON THIS VERY HOT AND HUMID DAY, OUR BAB SANTOS IS LIVE IN MINNEAPOLIS THIS AFTERNOON. SO BABS, WHAT CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT SOME OF THE DAMAGE? AND LAST I CHECKED, IT WAS LIKE 45,000 PEOPLE WITHOUT POWER. YEAH, PLENTY OF PEOPLE WITHOUT POWER. TODAY, XCEL ENERGY SAYS THE MAJORITY OF THEM ARE IN THE WEST. METRO BUT THERE ARE POWER OUTAGES SCATTERED AROUND THE TWIN CITIES AND EVEN IN WESTERN WISCONSIN. YOU WOKE US UP THE LIGHTS FLICKERED. THE WINDOWS, YOU KNOW, RATTLED. AND YOU COULD DEFINITELY FEEL THE BOOMS. IT WAS PRETTY, PRETTY LOUD. A LOT OF WIND OVERNIGHT. HEAVY RAIN, LIGHTNING AND STRONG STRAIGHT LINE WINDS LEFT A MESS. LITTLE BRANCHES AND LEAVES, LIKE EVERYWHERE FOR MINNESOTANS TO CLEAN UP ON SUNDAY, THE STORM DAMAGING POWER LINES LIKE THIS ONE IN BROOKLYN PARK. I'M IN GOLDEN VALLEY AND I LOST POWER AND FORCING MORE THAN 1000 LINE WORKERS TO BRAVE THIS WEEKEND'S HEAT AND HUMIDITY TO GET THE LIGHTS BACK ON FOR SOME 75,000 PEOPLE WITHOUT POWER AFTER THE STORM, XCEL ENERGY SAYS MOST HOMES WILL HAVE THEIR POWER RESTORED BY MONDAY NIGHT, BUT SOME COULD HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL TUESDAY. IN THE MEANTIME, PLENTY HAD SOME IMPROMPTU YARDWORK TO KEEP THEMSELVES BUSY, SO I'M GOING TO BUNDLE IT UP AND THEN THE CITY WILL HOPEFULLY TAKE IT AWAY TOMORROW. THEN THERE WAS THE PROBLEM OF MOTHER NATURE'S SUDDEN AND RANDOM ROAD CLOSURES. MANY TREES TOSSED ASIDE IN THE STORM MADE IT HARDER FOR DRIVERS TO FIND THEIR WAY AROUND TOWN. THIS ONE EFFECTIVELY SHUTTING OFF ACCESS TO THE CEDAR LAKE POINT BEACH PARKING LOT. VERY SAD. VERY SAD. IT IS A MONUMENT. AT THIS HOUR, XCEL ENERGY IS STILL REPORTING 1322 OUTAGES IMPACTING NEARLY 41,000 CUSTOMERS AND LIKELY
