trouble keeping up with the Joneses it's the coach this is the 2019 season on EA Sports Straight Ahead Aaron Jones no picnic a week ago he's looking for another big game as it'll be the Washington taking on the Green Bay Packers with that let's get up to the Frozen of Lambo field in Green Bay on the call it's Brandon G and Charles Davis snow and Lambo coach something about that combo that just works like peanut butter and jelly and we've got half a foot of the white stuff and still coming down here in Green Bay no team means more to a city than the Packers to Green Bay and this was the scene a few moments ago as the green and gold made their way out of the historic tunnel they're ready to go as they get set to match up with the Washington Redskins along with Charles Davis I'm Brandon gard and Charles we look at this Packer team as we enter play here they've handled all comers through the first three months a perfect 12 and0 yeah they're three quarters of the way to a perfect season and now is where it really starts to get into your mind we'll see if it affects their play in any way meanwhile for the visiting Redskins it's late in the year we all know it we've seen the calendar for these guys their bodies could probably use a break but they have to push on and they're really not as as worried about that as maybe we think they know they've got the entire off season to rest all they care about is the game in front of them and finishing strong three quarters of the NFL season are complete what lurks in our final month we're underway in week 14 this is fielded at the goal line he'll bring it back to just about the 25 call it the 24 yd line Alex Smith ready to lead the Redskins here and many wondered if Smith would ever play again following that difficult to watch leg injury suffered against the Texans last season but at age 35 Smith is back and ready to give it another [Music] [Applause] go go 30 base coming wild now a first down throw it's Smith and incomplete to open things up he was trying to get it there to Vernon Davis the tight end and now it's second down and here a look at the offensive starters for the Redskins so let's all work together on this one because it's natural to just watch the football I want all of us to watch the center of this offensive line the center and the two guards they've got to be able to control the point of attack and they didn't do such a good job on that last play plenty of opportunities to redeem themselves they'll have to take advantage of that and start to make progress takes it to the 26 just a one yd gain we'll take a look at the starters here defensively for the Packers in that win last week over the Giants they were very good if I'm playing quarterback against this team after what I saw in film where they had five picks last week all I'm thinking about is taking care of the football being very careful with it and making sure I see my guys open before I throw it I might curl up in the fetal position not B I don't think he's going to do that now a shot taken on third down but it's going to wind up incomplete well that certainly looked like something that they discussed all week in practice getting ready for this one take the big shot right out of the gate at worst he'll open up the defense a little bit loosen up have back on their heels that'll be put in the books as a 53 yd Punt and it'll be Packer football here first down and 10 number 12 in green and gold coming out to lead the Packers of course that's Aaron roders last year for Rogers despite the young receiving core despite the nagging injuries despite the removal of his head coach better than 4,400 passing yards the second highest total in his 14 NFL Seasons Rogers will bring the pack up with a first and 10 at their own 23 they'll go with their leading rusher from a season too this is Aaron Jones takes this to the 27 give him four yards and now the offensive starters for the Packers right back Aaron Jones in his third year out of UT led the NFL in yards per carry in 2018 but his goal in the off season is stated through interviews wants to become a better more dependable pass catcher out of the back field had 206 receiving yards in 2018 and when Aaron Rogers is your quarterback you definitely want to up your game now a nice throw here right side he hauls it in and they get him down but not before he takes it across the 40 yd line give him 15 there the Packers have a [Applause] first anx teammate used to tell me all the time I hate experienced quarterbacks because no matter what you really can't hide what you're doing and I think that right there he knew right away where the blitz was coming from where his primary guy was going to be and he ended up going to a secondary Target for a nice game I was just going to ask you that wasn't the primary target and he's so good at that isn't he I think he knew right away that he wasn't going to get to his primary guy I think he read that as soon as he got to the line of scrimmage knew where the pressure was going to come from and said ah I know how to beat that and that's what he did another big B Gainer that time this one goes for 19 yds another fine carry from the NFL's rushing leader and quarterbacks typically dominating the MVP ballting but I think you got to give this guy serious consideration don't you I agree totally I mean he's leading the league and rushing and let's face it partner the running back Renaissance in the NFL it's real and it's really helping teams along the way he's a prime example got to give him strong consideration for MVP talk five yds on the catch there brings up second down time for a look at our starters here on defense against the pass just numbers that they haven't like number 30 in the league right now and I think you're going to see some changes in the off season whether it's through the draft free agency maybe even both they definitely need some help in the [Applause] secondary second and five after the 5yd completion on first down [Applause] go throwing now is Rogers and that's complete to Adams and he's taken down but not before reaching the 10 yd line call that a very strong gain of 24 his passing's been on point on this drive hasn't it been very accurate gotten the ball down field gain nice chunks of yardage but now in this situation the field is really condensed partner so if he's going to throw the football that would be pinpoint here as I was going to ask you about that field shrinks has to be sharper but it's it's been a good opening drive so far now they just want to see if they can cap it off with the bell ringer and put it in the end zone I know the speed is the hall Mark of today's NFL game but the key to good rushing defense is still having your linebackers set the edge they'll try again on second and goal after going backwards to the [Applause] 12 Rogers going to throw and that's going to be knocked away in The End Zone it's incomplete breaking that one up the former allpro Josh Norman defensively here you're facing a top five team in terms of Point scored in the NFL so when they're that high powered you've got to find a way to hold them under 20 cuz to me that's the magic number 20 point score gives yourself beat nowhere to escape and he goes down off the edge the sack by Matt ionius talk about how teams are so competitively match and you just want to make those plays that give you an advantage how about right here the difference between letting him score a touchdown versus holding him to a field goal that's absolutely huge for the play he just made you know he hated taken the loss there on third down so the opening drive does yield points maybe not the seven they wanted but they'll take the three accumulating first downs does not go up on the scoreboard but it does go into the DNA of a team that's trying to establish itself to start a game that has to feel pretty good for them they'll take the three yeah they had three first downs and three points and he'll bring it a few past the 20 to the 23 yd line out comes Washington's offense as they get set to take over here and the last Drive the first drive for them not very good three and out what do they go to here well you don't look down at your play sheet and say this is what the problem is let's find out who my play makers are get the ball in their hands and maybe the offens will move a little bit better sometimes it's more important to get it to the right people rather than dialing up the right number exactly or the the right play that too six yds was the pickup on the last completion so here's second and four now it's AP Adrien Peterson and Running Room scarce here he's going to be stopped in his tracks at the line of scrimmage no gain on the play that time and they'll look to convert on what'll be a third and four and it looks like we've got a dime set here defensively six DBS the game from the gun here's Smith and that's knocked away and incomplete and this passing game's whole offense really didn't show up in the loss last week and it hasn't started all that great here either yeah they can't let that incompletion become an uh oh moment like oh boy here we go again just like last week each game is its own entity treated as such nice job bringing that one back 14 on the return and the offense will take over with a new set of downs out come the Packers for their next drive as we take a look at the playoff race in the NFC coming into the weekend what we do know Charles they will be in the playoffs they currently sit at Pole Position number one but nothing set in stone right now they still have to earn that top spot and it makes me reflect back to pre-season when you and I do our tours of camps the prevailing message in each and every one of them was what win the division theion win the division you know you're in the playoffs it means something it might mean it means a home game it means a number of other things but winning the division is Paramount you're right they won't step off the gas here on second down now it's Jones and he's going to take it in touchdown Packers Aaron Jones touchdown number 15 of the year and the Packers are able to strike quickly for six and on that long run maybe the defense caught napping a little bit the concentration level may not have been there I agree with you on that one because those types of plays when they result like that they're almost like big bolts of lightning aren't they whoosh and off he goes always worry about the plant foot in the snow but no problems there and the lead grows to 10 nothing now after the touchdown here's Crosby to kick it away this is fielded at the goal line and he'll make it across the 20 as his guys will set up shot at the 23 yd line a look at Washington as they come onto the field they've had it twice they punted twice not the start they were hoping for not at all and let's face it every facility we visit everyone talks about converting on third down how big that is in this situation they've had to punt it away twice so they're furiously going over things on the sidelines what do we need to do to pick up a first down and change our momentum six yds was the pick up on the last completion so here's second and four now a throw here on second down and that's complete seven yds there and a first [Applause] down so from the 36 now first and 10 single [Music] single Smith and this one completes a read and he'll be taken down but not before he gets into enemy territory give him 16 yards there and it's a first [Applause] down a lot of tight ends just use their size and their strength try to occupy some space and kind of body people away and catch the football but not this guy he's a refined rout out runner makes me wonder if he took some dance classes in his background with his footwork and now a throw on first down there but it's incomplete Jordan Reed was the intended target and that'll bring up second down after the incomplete pass here now is second and 10 here's Peterson they get six here after the incompletion and it'll leave him with a third and four a quick burst there and he nicely bit off a pretty decent gain from the gun on third down Smith he's got Thompson here complete and he's going to have the first down yardage to the 35 it's a seven yd gain there and it's good enough to move the chains we've seen quite a bit of the short passing game here early on first quarter haven't we we have and I think it works a couple of ways for for this team because number one you throw the short game until they stop it and if they're not thr to stop you keep throwing it occasionally you'll break a tackle and turn into a bigger gain also if they start to creep up start to press your receivers now you go over the top take it deep and now you get some of those big shots down [Applause] field on first down Smith and this will be incomplete physical play on the football there and it's second down so after the incompletion second and 10 from the 22 here's Smith throwing again that's complete to his tight end sprinkle and they'll bring him down at the 13 yd [Applause] line when you execute a drag or a Crossing route really well and give him a chance to let it develop a little bit you can gain some significant yardage hitting your tight end on that [Applause] one they'll run it here's Peterson and they'll go backwards here losing yardage to the 14 that'll back him up two yds and also bring up fourth plays like we just saw there that's why they're up right now and the defense they're doing their job yeah it starts with the guys up front so when you talk with GMS are putting together a team a lot of them say we're going to build from the inside out because if you control the line of scrimmage you control the rest of the ball game and that's what we're seeing here they're actually playing in the offense's back field not necessarily just playing at the line of scrimmage this fielded a few yards into the end zone and he'll wind up about four yds shy of where he would have been if he' taken a knee as they'll start at the 21 yd line here's Aaron Jones and the offense trotting back out last week a strong showing up over a 100 also two trips to the end zone it's a kind of week that if you said listen I'll let you have this type of a game each and every week you'd sign up for it you wouldn't try and get too greedy but let's face it good Runners always want to be a little bit more greedy at try and squeeze out every last yard he's going to try and duplicate that and exceed it in this [Music] game on second down it's Jones and they'll take him down at the 31 yd line six yds the pickup and that's a first down and this should be the final play before the quarter ends [Music] now a first down carry by Jones and he'll be taken down as that will take us to the end of the first quarter of play 10 three our score after one here on EA [Applause] [Music] Sports six yds on that last play here's second and four [Applause] now they'll throw with Rogers and his throw is incomplete Devonte Adams the intended receiver and that'll make it third down by the way I got to apologize cuz I just realized for about the last four or five plays I'm eeking over in your territory up here in the booth my bad I'm going to get back over to my spot yeah we're not talking about our on air commentary I mean what is all this extra paper I mean this is unusual for you will you run a really tight ship what's going on here just like that incomplete pass I'm going to try to tighten things up here for this next play he's got Adams on the hook up a third down gain of 19 partner this is one of the best routes anyone can have in their offensive Playbook tough to defend because you think it's a go route and then he breaks it back on the comeback there's one other thing you need as well a well thrown ball exactly right a guy who has some Precision in throwing the football because of the timing of the route they go back to the ground with Jones and for one of the few times here today this Run's not going to go anywhere tackle made there by Mason Foster well that didn't appear to be a run blitz he just DED in once he saw the Run develop that appeared to be a case of see ball get [Music] ball off the plate fake to Jones here's Rogers he'll tussle for it and this is going to be caught and they're going to have another first down here as the tackle made at the Redskins [Applause] 26 the goal for any offense versus his own defense find the holes where guys are available and put the ball on the receiver before any Defender can step up and fill it they did it well there perfectly executed Crossing route [Applause] [Music] now a play fake Rogers he's going to go up top for the End Zone back of the end zone could he get his feet down no it's incomplete again he was looking for Devonte Adams and that'll bring up second down once again they'll come up on the 26 yd line Second and 10 Rogers now going throw again got an open man it's Valdez scandling and he'll get it down this time to the 17 that was the ninth play of the drive and they pick up nine yards with it when you're playing a quarterback with some experience and some Moxy you enter the danger zone when you decide to Blitz him because if he's able to diagnose as he did on that play he can hurt you downfield he reads defenses so well doesn't he he really does and the best part about that play for him I don't think that was his primary target I don't think so either I think he had the read figed out where the bit was coming from and went to a secondary Target for a really nice game they're able to convert on third down and that sets up a first and goal and this is an example of breaking down a defense cuz in a lot of these runs he's getting past the point of attack and guess what he's doing forcing the secondary guys to have to make a lot of tackles [Applause] now Rogers Blitz coming and down he goes the safety Blitz works perfectly that time for Landon Collins well if you're going to throw the ball on first and goal from the two the worst thing that should result is an incompletion for you offensively but Brandon this is a different type of football back in my day first and goal from the two a lot of big people with big neck rolls they were on the field trying to Ram it into the end zone for the pylon caught five yds that time on the completion and now it's third and [Applause] goal they've been denied touchdowns in the Red Zone twice already here comes third and goal they'll try and run it in with Jones and a second effort gets him in touchdown Packers Aon Jones his second TD of the game and 16th on the season and the Packers are able to stretch that lead out further and always a good first half when you can hit pay dir twice and it never hurts to have that good feeling as the game moves on just think about half timee if if that's is all he gets he'll just sit there at the half and think all right two already I can get some more I get some more he'll be encouraging his offensive line to create some space now after the touchdown here's Crosby to kick it away this is taken about seven yds deep and no run back here this will be a touch back and it comes out to the 25 yd line we remind you that coming up later tonight Sunday Night Football seems like we've seen the Seahawks quite a bit in prime time the last few weeks and we get them again tonight as they head down to LA to take on the Rams and then tomorrow night for Monday Night Football it's Giants Eagles from Chile Philadelphia Kevin King coming up the secondary to make the play one thing to keep in mind partner especially in the second half when you've got a running back of this size of these Dimensions I can just tell you attrition does set in for a defense because you're excited about hitting him in the first half maybe not so much in the second half and some of these shorter gains turn into bigger runs later everyone's got to be able to catch the football doesn't matter what position you play but if you're on offense be aware ball may come your way the red on third down they've only converted once in four tries here it's third and three now Smith and he finds the tight end Reed and boy he is very close to a first down but from where they're spotting that football he's going to be a foot or so short they stop him for only three that time and that'll bring up fourth down he wasn't the primary target but I think it was almost like a a check down situation wasn't it yeah hoping he can break some tackles a big tight end but he couldn't do it yeah get it to that big frame and hope he can scatter some bodies unable to get it done here's Aaron Jones in the offense trotting back the field position game such an overlooked fac of Charles of an NFL game but this offense they're going to be pinned back what an ideal punt an ideal Punt and it leads to that term complimentary football because them doing that puts their defense in a great spot doesn't it gives them a chance if they want to be aggressive try and maybe get a safety out of this whole thing it puts them in that position 14 yds good for a Packer first down well he's broken off some big time runs here in this first half yeah and let's just face it when you go into a game you think you've got the plays that are going to work but when you actually get out there and they're starting to happen your confidence Rises and he's running with terrific ability right now deluding the pressure right and he's going to keep it here and he's able to get this one up to his thir before he's out of bounds The Improv on the scramble there gets him six and it'll be second down okay he's not going to get the first down but this is still a nice job of buying some time and then running to get to the sideline and get out of bounds and avoid the big hit to throw again on second down Rogers he'll rifle this one deep right up and got his man complete and he's going to get this all the way down inside the 35 36 yds on the play well you don't have to be a genius to watch this game and figure out they've had plenty of success moving the football here in the first half we've seen exhibits a b c and right on Down the Line haven't we yeah we just saw exhibit Z right there so the big Play Changes the complexion of things here's first and 10 just outside the 30 SC scre scre scre [Applause] delay game offense that's going to set him back five yds still first [Applause] down the delay of game backs him up five first and 15 let's go defense get out the field defense [Applause] from the gun it's Rogers he'll find Taylor that's complete they've moved the ball over 50 yds between this play and the last one never make the mistake of the slot receivers especially the little guys like we're watching here are just quicker than fast a lot of them combine quickness and speed and they catch a lot of footballs as we just saw there on second down it's Jones and down inside the 15 shy of the 10 it's a gain of 12 and the Packers have the first a lot of Praise on this drive obviously I I know you're seeing what I'm seeing those guys up front they're getting it done doesn't matter what play is called they are handling their business at the line of scrimmage and dominating right now on this [Music] drive on first first down Rogers he can't avoid the pressure Redskins get there Jonathan Bostic came in their hard on the blitz and got him down nine yds behind the line of scrimmage well maybe that can give him a little bit of a pick me up a little bit of a jolt one the few things has gone right defensively cuz other than that it's really been a first half to forget sacks a growing theme in this first half this is second and [Applause] long Rogers now to throw this is caught and he will get this into the end zone touchdown Green Bay Devonte Adams touchdown number 15 of the year and the Packers are able to stretch that lead out further great Corner route there not only able to catch it turn it up field and get into the End Zone it usually involves a little bit of an extra move doesn't it you got to get them thinking that you're moving to the middle of the field and you're breaking away to that corner boy that was well executed Crosby with the extra point and the lead now to three touchdowns at 21 so this drive spans seven plays and the result a Green Bay score now after the touchdown here's Crosby to kick it away this is taken about seven yds deep and no run back here will be a touch back and it comes out to the 25 yd line out comes Washington's offense as they get set to take over here and this not an easy situation you're down early in the elements you're on the road how do you get the mojo back but one thing is to remember that as an offensive player you have a much better idea of what you're trying to accomplish and where you're trying to go than the defender so in this case because you know it you can make your Cuts with a little more decisiveness maybe a second fake some double moves things of that nature to go ahead and try and put some pressure on the [Applause] defense so the face mask quite a blessing there as they'll start out of Harm's Way with a first and [Music] 10 now a play fake and it's Smith pass incomplete he was trying to get it to AP out of the back field that'll bring up second down they've been playing sound fundamental defense thus far and able to keep this offense from creating a major dent on the scoreboard able to force the incompletion but still waiting for that gamechanging play you feel like it's coming the first sack the first turnover and a sense old school defense right now the new school defense is what you said taking the ball away it's a loss of two now third down another example right there how this defense really is winning the entire game at the point of attack yeah right there the of SC cuz they are dominating it allows their interior guys to get up field and spill into the back field so how you going to combat that you know because they bring in your tight end keep him in your running backs they have to step forward bottom line the offensive line has to block them first to give yourself a chance and he'll go out of bounds it appears right at the 45 they stop him after a gain of only four and that brings up fourth down here's trese now he's been one of their few bright spots so far [Applause] bar and there's a work of art right there out of Bounds at the 2 yd line go second quarter action with 159 remaining and we'll remind you that coming up at halftime we'll join Jonathan Coachman in the gang in Orlando coach you'll have stats and scores from the early games going on here around the n [Applause] they'll start the drive with a carry by Jones and he will double the space they have to work with as they take it from the two to the four two yds on the pickup there it'll be second and eight the last run got a couple here's second and eight [Applause] Rogers with a give it's Aaron Jones and he's able to get this one all the way past the 30 a gain of 28 yds there and give him a first down okay every now and then my defensive bias will leak out here abysmal play for them you've got them backed up and you let him out take advantage and know who's happy the punter cuz if he was needed they gave him a lot of space to work with now yeah because he would have had a lot to think about right don't step over the back line and give him a safety now he's got room if he needed it that's caught by jono Allison the Packers going to use one of their timeouts as they'll stop it with just over 40 seconds to go in the first half they still need about the length of the football here maybe a little less as they come up on second and [Applause] inches now it's Rogers he finds Taylor complete and he's going to be out of bounds but not before he takes it inside the 40 19 yds the pickup there move the chains and a good quarterback facing Zone coverage if he has just a little bit of time to survey the scene that's what's going to happen no doubt about it there's pressure he's going to continue to pick them apart because they'll have all that time to find someone open down and that's going to be intercepted landed Collins the Pro Bowl [Applause] safety well if you go by the Numbers you'll find as the temperature goes down so does the passing efficiency and now that we're in December even the routine throws are going to be harder for the quarterbacks and this one it winds up getting picked off they'll indeed try to run it out as they start on the ground and defensively they're just looking to keep him contained as they're able to get him down the Redskins now going to use the first of their three timeouts as they'll stop the clock with 26 seconds to go until halftime ball on the 30 they'll come up with a second and five they'll keep it on the ground again here and he'll just keep two hands on the football as he'll be taken down after a short pickup now Washington going to use the second of their three timeouts as a with 22 seconds to go here in half number one these guys have punted four times already and they're staring at a fifth barring a conversion here on third down and he drops this off to Thompson complete the Redskins going to go ahead and use their final timeout as they stop it with 16 seconds to go in half number one Smith now 11 of 17 passing thus far he's got his guys a first and 10 complete Richardson has him and he is into the end zone for a Washington touchdown Paul Richardson in the final seconds of the first half and the Redskins are able to close the gap just a bit terrific touchdown I know we've got a game now yeah I think anytime you go to the second half down just one or two scores you feel not where you want to be but in a pretty good spot and I think for most teams when they go into the half in this situation it's not a lot of adjusting going on it's much more all right guys let's just play a little bit better than we did in the first half and not a bad return here he gets it out to the 25 yd line about set to get this drive started the Green Bay offense at the line time for a final kneel down or a safe run and then they can head to the locker room with a lead yeah or they can even run a screen you know something they feel somewhat safe that might actually pop and turn into a big play that's what you usually run in this situation we go four vertical because why not because you're feeling it right you're just feeling it all right Brandon we'll get back to you and Charles in a bit but first let's get to some of these scores around the NFL here in a b and now due to apparent time constraints we fast forward to the beginning of the second half not much has changed since we left you at halftime the snow still continuing to fall as we are back underway this will be taken in at the one and he'll get across the 20 before he's brought down at about the 23 yd line and Green Bay getting ready to go as they take the field they built a good first half lead now they have a chance to add on to it and what I'm thinking is that the offensive staff spent the entire half time just working with them on here's what we think they're going to do to attack Us in the second half nice first half that we've had guys but be prepared for some change UPS we're going to see them when we kick it off in the second half see how they handle any adjustments that might be made defensively two yds on the carry there it'll be second down they tried to Quick hit her inside but that one was swallowed up because what they're hoping this big defensive linemen will take the bait and move laterally and open up a crease that they can run through didn't happen on that play on second down now it's Jones and not much to speak of call it a one yd gain up to the 26 now third down is looming a up up of two on first down and just one yard there typically we think it's the strong safeties that are better tacklers especially closer to the line of scrimmage amidst traffic but in this case how about the free safety coming up and making the big time play throwing is Rogers on third down out of the back field this is Aaron Jones and he's going to be brought down short of the first at about the 30 one yd line whether you're playing West Coast offense or not one of the maxims of the West Coast offense is you're either throwing a touchdown or a check down in other words look for the big shot but be smart I think they did exactly that on that play they didn't get the first down but they're taking care of the ball well yeah being rightly cautious with that lead here in the second half a good return there 17 yds and it'll be Redskins football now with a first and 10 so now we look at the redins offense getting ready for their first possession of the second half they're down in this game a chance for the offense though to put something on the board get some momentum here in half two try and get things kicked for them and you know at the half they discussed how they were going to get that done this is where scripting comes into play a lot the time how many plays do you script coming out of the most most of the time in the first half you're scripting 12 to 16 I think in the second half you're really scripting more like 8 to 10 kind of a starter or an opener whatever they whatever terminology they use just something to get you off to a quick start here's a throw right side taken in by his tight end 60 catches for him now on the Year this last one a first down in this weather any big play in the passing game that's that's just a bonus right it certainly is but often times offenses think in Clement weather plays to their advantage because you know where you're going on offense Defenders have to react and they often slip looking for more there on first down but this throw down field incomplete so line of scrimmage still the 39 on second and [Applause] 10 Smith now to throw again that'll be caught right side by Reed and they'll be inside the 35 now at the 34 yd line that catch good for five it's third down this offense in desperate need of a conversion as they come up on third down Smith throwing again Jordan Reed has it and he's able to pick up the first down here before he goes down at the 26 Smith finding his big tight end Reed for a Redskins first that was a route run not just with dexterity but with intelligence found the hole in the zone made sure the quarterback saw him he was able to make the short catch and put the down marker back to run and they've got it in the red zone now down at about the 19 a solid run on first down gain of seven leaves him with a second and three not too many offenses want to turn down long drives but when you're down what they are they've got to pay it off with some points they go with Thompson again and he'll take it down here just shy of the 15 at the 16 yd line they'll get three as the drive continues it's a first [Applause] down first down here's r with Peterson and they get to him quickly here as he stopped right around the 13 Mike Daniels makes the tackle they still have time to get them established but in my estimation they've got to pick up the urgency here they've got to get quickly in and out of the Huddle and run off a bunch more plays and this one complet a re and he'll be brought down this time at the 5 yd line he's up to 88 yds receiving in the ball game now and he's got a first down many different ways to create space but on that play he did it with that big wide body of his didn't get a whole lot of yardage on the play but it did what it was supposed to pick up a first down and he will push his way forward down to about the three yd line well they're hoping that the second half is better for him than the first half they've got to find a way to get him going he's a big part of their offense this is Smith and this won't be enough to pick up the first gain of two third and one so a decent deficit at this stage in the second half four down territory no doubt about it there's not a chance that he hasn't looked ahead and said okay if we gain yardage on this play this is what we'll do going forward if we lose yardage this is the play call that I'll have ready and maybe they were coming with a blitz that time and it caused a jump I think if we saw it you know that they saw it might have been a little discussion down there bad guys coming pick them up pick them up and someone jumped a bad time for a full start penalty as they're backed up now for third and goal and he takes it in touchdown Washington Terrence Williams with touchdown number seven on the year as his guys are back within a single score that's a score you felt they had to have here in the third quarter to get back in this game and you know that there's an emphasis on their side hey we know this we know where we are but sometimes that binds you you up so much that you try too hard you don't get the score a perfect combination of urgency yet relaxed enough to get it done this game back with it a touchdown now as the kick offs away this is taken at the three and he'll take this up past the 20 and down at the 22 yd line here's Aaron Jones and the offense trotting back out and we have seen a decline in the numbers where does The Fault lie just him maybe the guys up front combination well as you and I both know it's almost always a collective deal but in this case I think maybe the offensive line got a little overconfident they had blocked so well in the first half picked up on what the defense was doing I think we've seen an adjustment now that they have not picked up on and now they're being a little bit overwhelmed and he'll be corraled right around the 34 it's a gain of 12 and the Packers have the first it's been a remarkable day at the office for him running the football those yards just continue to pile well past 100 and how about more than double digit carries in the second half alone that's what you want as a runner because you got to prove to your offensive line that you're going to be as tough as they are they don't rotate in and out on every play running backs often do so those who can stay out there with their offensive linemen those are the guys they really value Dominique Rogers kardi up to make the tackle well we saw him there trying to get it to the outside trying to get to the perimeter but not a whole lot of room there but there's got to be one positive to that if you keep moving laterally creases tend to develop as the game moves on and they can run it back inside later from the 36 Rogers nowhere to escape and he goes down like how they've started the third quarter here they force a punt on the first drive and after this sack it looks like he'll be forcing another one as well absolutely maybe got their second win coming out of the locker room Rogers now after the sack he'll lead the pack up on Third and long to throw it's Rogers and he's going to go down again Jonathan Allen able to record his fifth sack of the season the amount of sacks that they've absorbed in this game is absolutely extraordinary let's just face it this offensive line flat out cannot handle this pass rush it's been demonstrated time and time again the punt team on now as this one sent away take it right on the 30 we'll call that a punt of 54 yds well struck and possession will switch hands first and 10 Alex Smith and Company heading back out there now he has been consistent hasn't he he played well in the first quarter good second quarter and now continuing that here in the third and that's the word that they're always seeking from the guy taking the snaps is consistency taking care of the ball making sure it gets to the right people no errors right not turning it over and just doing all the right things that's leadership and it inspires confidence in a team been a good leadership and a good distributor and he'll be brought down at the 48 yd line nine yds the pickup there and it's a first down this has to go down as one of the simpler routes in the Playbook but oh so effective nice completion there keeps the sticks moving a 10th carry now for Peterson and they're going to get him behind be the line yet again as his nightmare afternoon continues give him a couple on the carry there second and [Applause] eight throwing on second and eight Smith and that going to be incomplete a lot of contact no call and it's third down went with a dime look on defense two extra defensive backs on the field have covered up essentially every blade of grass that allowed them to disrupt the play here's Smith Josh Dawson's got it complete and he'll get this to the 40 but that's still going to be a few yards short of the first down receivers love having the reputation of being go-to guys on third down and he was fighting like he really wanted to have that reputation didn't he I mean he came very close to making that a first down broke the one tackle but couldn't spring himself free F start offense maybe anticipating a blitz and they jumped yeah and if we saw it you know that they saw it the bad guys might have been coming on that play had to pick them up and they jumped and he deserves a bronze leg as he gets this one away and it's out of bounds now we'll see what the side judge says he says out at the 8 yd line so they'll play the field position game here as a very nice punt is going to pin him back yeah it's almost like watching a game of tennis or do you prefer pingpong you know back and forth like like that that definitely was excellent wasn't it they'll run it with Jones and he'll take this one up to about the 13 five yds is the tally on first down that brings up second and five and this will probably be the last play of the [Applause] quarter they'll go again to Jones and he'll go down and that will do it for the third quarter of action we have played three quarters we'll return with more after to this you're watching the NFL on EA Sports so Signs of Life in what's been a dormant offense in this second half here's first and 10 out of the shotgun it's Jones a good gain of nine before he's brought down at the 28 Charles you'd said the magic number was probably right around 20 for this defense as they're facing one of the top five offenses in the league in terms of Point score they've had their moments but this offense just a little too good isn't it they really are because no matter what you do to make an adjustment on defense they've had an answer for it now Rogers on the bootle and look at this they get the turnover they needed it's intercepted picked off at the 39 so my goodness I wouldn't have thought this possible not too long ago but that turnover there means we have a game again yeah it's been a completely different team here in the second half I just wonder on the other side of the field where the starters telling the backups get ready you're going to get some playing time and now guess what hope they didn't cut the tape off of their wrists and ankles they've got to go back out there and Play No Gain there on the completion second and [Music] 10 and the completed pass but for No Gain stopped right at the line so it's second and 10 now we've got whistles here before the snap was this on the Red Skins I think so the crowd's not doing that o line any favors home field advantage is really kicking in making it very typ difficult for them to hear the snap count so after the penalty heading in the wrong direction second and 15 back to throw Smith now there's that man again it's complete it's a gain of five on the play and it'll third and 10 now big play coming up here's third and 10 I would expect to see some pressure here the pressure drops off as they'll look to throw caught on the right side Reed and he's going to get this inside the 30 it's a first down for the Redskins on a pickup of 11 his position and He's listed as a tight end but he certainly doesn't run like one and that's what we're seeing more and more coming into the league those guys who can run make plays after the catch and gain that additional yardage and using that speed there to turn it into a pretty nice little game and now a throw here secured by his running back out of the back field I know most of the time when the ball's in the air you're thinking wide receiver tight end but running backs they can be a big part of any passing offense nowadays six yds was the pickup on the last completion so here's second and four throwing again is Smith his throw caught right around the six and able to get him down but he does reach the five the Washington passing game dialed in now it's a first down tell you what he's been able to put the ball in some tight spots all game long that throw no different yeah a lot of people would call a gutsy type of a throw I think he looks at it as I can do it so it's not that big of a deal to me and he's going to go down sack back 13 yd line well that was point counter point wasn't it they decided to throw for it on first and goal instead the defense counters with pressure and the defense wins getting a big [Applause] sack on second down it's Thompson and a pick up of about four down inside the 10 to the 8 yd line partner I know we're in a goal to go situation but my goodness think about running the ball here not even a thought is it defensively they're in a prime spot and I think the defensive guys are probably expressing themselves to them as well I wouldn't run it here guys you might want to try throwing it to throw a Smith and he's going to be dropped back at the 15 yd line zidus Smith in there to get him and on the season now that is n sack for him well for last week's performance which was so good he was named NFC defensive player the week he got a lot of praise and understandably so from National media looking pretty good on that play too and I love what he told us this week before the game he talked about how much time they spend working on pass rush moves every position because anyone could go after the quarterback in their defense and you can see how they've all absorbed their lessons so an interesting call there to take the three I mean I guess they're thinking that their hands were tied but you know fourth Corner that field goal might not help him that much in the end yeah eventually they're going to need the touchdown the thinking must have been they didn't feel confident about picking it up there hoping maybe on defense they can get better field position get a turnover get a better play and then they'll have a chance to attack The End Zone Jones and not much to speak of call it a one yd gain up to the 26 offensively with the lead you want to run the ball keep the clock going but you also want to still kind of be in attack mode too right so how do you do that and not come back on your heels yeah think about all the practices we've watched where they have that Tempo period to go over things just like this where they describe the scenario tell you what they're looking for and make sure that they're still attacking yet at the same time not going so fast as to leave too much time on the clock no gain on the play there so that doesn't help now they're looking up at a third and nine situation the Packers on third down they've hit it 50% three of six to this point this is third and nine throwing is Rogers and he find Jimmy grah and they get him down but not before he takes it across the 40 yd line it's a gain of 16 and a first down for the green and gold couldn't just sit on it here could they had to throw the ball third down got the big completion in the pickup fresh set of downs now they've got to feel great and defensively a back breaker on first down Jones and taking it across Midfield and inside the 45 it's a gain of 16 and a first down for the green and gold to my eyes deceive me or is he getting stronger as this game moves along burst seems just as good here in the fourth as it was way back in the first doesn't it I do believe someone put a lot of time in in the off season and continues to condition during the season in order to continue to carry the ball at this rate so signs of life and what's been a dormant offense in this second half here's first and 10 throwing now is Rogers and that going to be incomplete too tough to hold on to that one it's second down that would have been a great catch but real difficult to hold on to it because it was contested all the way would have been a great play if he'd been able to haul that one in ball on the 42 as they come up second and 10 this is Jones he's got the first down here inside the 30 and down to the 29 yd line it's a gain of 12 and the Packers have the first ah he's still rumbling isn't he still looking fresh in this one despite the heavy workload but you and I both know well conditioned and he did tell us that he thrives on being at his Peak late in ball games after the run by Jones here's first and 10 let's get off the field let's get off the field shotgun now for Rogers and this is incomplete okay I'm not quite sure how to judge that one maybe didn't have enough legs Underneath Him mechanics might have been off maybe some fatigue that one came up short yeah fourth quarter maybe you do start to watch as the arm there the leg still there this has been a tough game on the delay Jones and he's going to be stopped close to the first down marker at about the Redskins 22 I thought that was a good call passing situation on second down they hit him with a draw instead and pick up nice yardage yeah because the draw they're thinking pass when they see that initially defensively right well you know in today's NFL most of the time on second and long when it's a passing situation pass rushers are on the field and you're only thinking one thing get to the quarterback and often times you can byass him with a running play oh and they had him stopped short of the first but a penalty marker down and that looked like a clear face mask to me boy a tight game like this fourth quarter personal foul penalties a no no yeah we know the emotions are running High the tensions are the same who can control them best could ultimately win it after the penalty it's Jones this will be stopped about two yd shy of the marker y gain second and two I'm guessing you'd say this is kind of the key here grind out some yardage work on that clock see if you can continue to take it down definitely you want to bleed things out at this point right continue to possess the football gain some yardage and put the onus on the defense do they have to use timeouts what are they going to do to stop you you and he'll take this into the end zone for a Green Bay touchdown Jamal Williams his fourth touchdown on the year here and the Packers are able to stretch that lead out further and they're able to run it in it started with a battle in the trenches they won there and they got in for six points and that's going to be a tough one for the defense to deal with they've got to go to the bench now and figure out how are we going to slow down this running game because on that particular play they had no answer so that one a pretty timec consuming 10-play drive and it ends with a three yd scoring run this will be taken in at the one solid return pretty good field position they'll start at the 32 yd line a look at Washington as they come onto the field and tough to win games if you're going field goal field goal field goal here they got field goal last time now they'll be looking for a touchdown look for the big chunk now because as you noted the field goal field goal field goal the way of doing it makes it that much harder puts more pressure on possession for you now go ahead and get six and feel a lot more comfortable about the position they're in bigger chunks we'll see if they can get the score that last catch short of the marker by just a yard leaves him with a very manageable second and one now Smith and this one incomplete too much contact to hold on to that one and it's third down the beauty of being able to play his own defense when you can sit back and see the ball coming out of the quarterback's hands get guess what creates a lot of confusion have a muddle in the middle of the field where you go make a play on the football and now the third down throw incomplete as well and I think we'll probably see him go for it here on fourth down no reason not to down a couple of scores they have to try and make something good happen here we go on Fourth Smith and no it's incomplete the Redskins go for it but it doesn't pan out and the Packers are going to get the football back in excellent field position so now with a two-minute warning coming up fast that puts a mammoth dent in their comeback hopes I like how you phrased it it's a dent because there's still opportunity they've got to get the ball back on defense obviously twice but guess what this thing is not close to being over they need to go and play it out not over as you said two score games still 13 yds first down Packers and what do they start thinking about Bur these timeouts they've got all three still defensively to me you have to start right now here's the time and that means you've got to stop them on defense not give up the yardage use your timeouts in order to get the ball back and try and score yourself but now is the time to start using those timeouts and keep in mind it'll also stop the clock at the two-minute warning delay game offense so that'll back him up five still first down [Applause] so a little bit of a stiffer challenge now first and 15 following the delay of game from the gun it's Rogers he gets this into the hands of Taylor and inside the 20 before he's brought down now 17 yds on the play there as the Packers have the first down as [Applause] well so it's Packer football here as we welcome you back and you'd have to figure they're just looking to burn these final two minutes away and get out of here with a victory into the Red Zone it's Rogers and he rifles one incomplete didn't have a receiver open downfield as it turned out couldn't even find his Outlet man because of the coverage of way too tight unable to find anyone open so after the incompletion on first now second and 10 here's Jones and he'll go down here at the 12 yd line whistles now in a Timeout so defensively they bur it here with 151 left [Applause] [Applause] the Redskins on third down putting an extra man here in the secondary working from the gun Rogers to the end zone but knocked away and [Applause] incomplete Not only was the call spot on how about the execution of that defense right there Zone was absolutely locked up tight he was trying to force it in there on third down but if there's a time to force it he felt like he needed to make a play right yeah exactly right third down you got to try and find something there's nothing available there for him so they settle for just the three but clearly right now anything helps trying to Salt this one away in the fourth without a doubt and obviously a touchdown probably would have been the final nail to finish this thing off but he still ate up time got points so it's not mission accomplished it's Dar close and he'll take this one near the 25 call it the 26 Y [Applause] Line Smith and the Redskins now down by two touchdowns a minute 39 to go they're in danger of a third straight loss as they come up on First and [Applause] 10 Smith on first down and he finds the tight end Reed the completion good for three and it's second down and right now defensively you love that don't you I mean you'll give them that play and they'll take it every single time this is almost like nickeling and diming it down field and too much time going to run off the clock a second down pass play there but it's incomplete they head to the line facing a third and seven following the incompletion on second down from the gun here's Smith and he can't quite pick it no interception so far that probably should have been their first but at least it's fourth down I guess you're in a situation now fourth quarter where they're forced to take some chances but I don't know that that was the type of a chance you want to take and that one could very easily have been intercepted and if it does get picked off nowhere to escape and he goes down they could not contain Kenny Clark as he gets home for the sack number 12 back out there Aaron and his Packer teammates set to begin their drive and right now probably just one thing in his mind it's getting back to the hot start cuz he's really faded and ordinarily when that happens the quarterback as you know is usually the leader of the squad now there's probably a silent camaraderie that comes about him saying hey guess what we got you don't worry about it let's go big fell cuz they know more times than not he tends to pick things up and they tend to play well the last run good for two here's second and [Applause] eight again it's Jones and he is met at the line of scrimmage and he goes down right there the Redskins going to go ahead and use their final timeout as they'll talk it over here before what'll be an important third down [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] shotgun now for Rogers he finds Taylor complete and he's going to be taken down short of the first right around the 15 yd line the completion good for only six and that'll bring up fourth so much about offense is what we call Hidden yardage you know you throw the ball to someone they catch it and then they can make a big play you know they create a play run after catch they did a really nice job there of limiting that and keeping them from a first down now stopped him in his [Music] [Applause] tracks and the play clock is going to run out here they're in no hurry to get a play [Applause] off and that'll set him back five so now here comes the field goal team for the third time today this to make it a three-score game [Applause] late and the 12year veteran knocks it right through and that'll push the lead up to 17 so he remains perfect three for three in the field goal Mar and it's so important for any offense to have an ace like him up their sleeve isn't it because now you know what his range is and as soon as your offense gets there you're pretty much counting on three points going up on the board this is fielded at the goal line and not a bad return here he gets it out to the 25 yd line out there ready for this next Drive the Redskins offense they're down big here late I don't know you just one last drive here for some people like to do that I remember playing for a guy once we were down huge and someone said coach what do you want to call he just waved hand like who cares get out of here and do something some other time but some teams like to do something at the end to feel a little bit better as they continue to no chance to get away there for Smith as he goes down Charles we saw a lot of points go up in this one certainly defensively stuff that they can look at on film don't you think no doubt about it and they've got to go back and check where the errors are how they're going to fix them and continue to get better at what they do but they also need a little adjustment with their confidence to give up that many points even if you win a game that can hurt you so for Green Bay the streak lives as they move to 13 and0 now on the year and they'll get to stay home again next week meanwhile for Washington the loss is number eight for him on the year and they'll get a chance to redeem themselves at home next week e
