welcome in everybody to a football Friday edition of birds 365 following a night of football Johnny Mack Eagles mooved to two and 0 baby on the preseason Johnny ma two and yeah how you doing on this Friday morning ah yeah right back at it uh uh yeah and that's all I'll say uh preseason football should be uh removed from polite Society that's that's my take for today yeah um but it is you know there were some positives as always and you know the the the the worst part and you saw we kind of saw it last time it's people jumping to conclusions without the context and that's frustrating uh certainly for the coaching staff and things like that but you know what and I say this to the Eagles this morning you know be more honest with the people you know and and and try to educate them and try to give them the context in try instead of trying to hide things so you know one of the things I'm proud about at this show I think we got the smartest group of Eagles fans I really do we do have a great group John yeah I I'm you know I but the the the overreactions to to preseason football are are crazy especially at the quarterback position and I'm sure we'll talk about that ad aian but um it went as predicted we were on the air when Nick was talking so I didn't know what he was going to say but I I had a good feel for what he was going to say and he said exactly what I thought you know basically brought up the context to pass protection early um and yeah he was asked Splat out if it's a competition and and and basically said no it's not and that's what I was trying to tell people so you can want it to be a competition but it's not now maybe they go look at the film and evaluate things and say all right Tanner did the right things and he deserves more chances I doubt it so it's possible but we'll see my my my advice to Eagles fans would be hope they both don't have to play and then you don't have to worry about it we'll get into all that and more I see everybody in the chat mad at the head coach again I don't know ask you this though because I know I know you're coming to it from you know that the Eagles are not going to move on from Kenny picket but objective analysis of the play do you understand where the fans are coming from and that Tanner looks better I said that in the in the moment I said it's going to be but right but the context is missing and and to Nick's credit he tried to add it and I and I'll pull up the exact quotes um and and it was obvious to anybody watching the game so he he he said they both you know he was ass Splat out did is Tanner out playing Kenny he said the things that kind of stalled some of the drives in the first half today was some of the pressure we got was obvious I talked about it I mean I mean anybody watched the game the Eagles and it was the backup offensive line it was Fred Johnson it was Trevor Keegan it was Brett Toth it was Daren Canard um who am I missing who who who am I missing but anyway those are the type of of of players that were out there uh oh steam before he got hurt started at Right Guard um so those are the guys and the Patriots were playing the majority of their starters in in the front and even though they traded uh maton they got they got some good front players and they were overwhelming the Eagles offensive line early so that's where he went that's where I knew he would go so some of the pressure we got and we didn't run it great in that area either for some different reasons the biggest reason being backups against starters that will obviously look at why so no again the question was is Tanner out playing Kenny I thought they both played a solid game tonight just some of the pressure that was on K Kenny happened in the first half and it settled down if you look at the fourth corner you know two things there were a lot of Max protections and they were protect that overall that that partly helped um they were protecting well and to Tanner's credit he made something of it so you got to give him credit for doing that I I said usually when you watch preseason football third string quarterbacks are just terrible and he wasn't so he he deserves a lot of credit but I'm not trying to say Kenny played well I hope people hear this I'm trying to say in the Eagles Minds there hasn't been a quarterback competition to the Point Nick said it again um and he was asked he was because they were pushing him and the last question about it was is there a competition or is picket the number two and his answer you saw where they went in today Kenny is number two and Tanner is our number three and I'm really happy they're both on our roster so you can be mad at me I don't care you're always mad at me but you know it's the head coach it's not me that's that's that's what the organization wants that's where they are and if Kenny picket was you know you could evaluate you could evaluate things better if Kenny Pickett was under siege like uh uh excuse me tanor mcke was under siege like Kenny picket he might have been better and then you can get a better feel for it um but to to assume again everything's a vacuum and everything's the same because one guy's out there on the same day as another guy in preseason football and you ignore the context of it you're not getting anywhere with that you're not getting anywhere with that making a a Sound Decision a good decision and and to all those people I I you know I do my on second thought column one things I was thinking of where's I get it it's quarterback so quarterback's higher profile where's all the trumpeting for Joe NADA as the third receiver where's all that because that guy that guy showed up and bowled out in the fourth quarter and you're you're all worried about Johnny Wilson where's the Joe n love all right I see where you're coming from with that I see where you're coming from if you're gonna be consistent and the answer is the same thing all right contextually I mean Joe hasn't been great in practice um he doesn't get a lot of Separation he had a big he had a big fourth quarter in the preseason game you know I'm not saying but if you want to be consistent you should put the same value on that unless you're going down the route of Tanner mck's elevating Joe NADA to be Jerry Rice which I guess you can do that as well Tanner mcke not to be confused with Tanner FES or Tanner Brady as some others have have called him in his pre I think most of that is hyperbole no everybody everybody's kiding around I'm just it is funny though because everybody's talking had h on it but let's move into the look even if no matter what happens with those guys when September six rolls around they're not going to be playing so let's move into guys that might be playing what else did you see last night John uh from a positive perspective I know we kind of did this last night but for the benefit of the people who did not hear our show last night uh what other positives stuck out to you from last night's I'm on the noobe train I thought noobe showed up I thought he was very active I I I don't know why Vic's taken so long to go down that route I'll be honest with that one because I don't see a lot of upside with Zack Bon but I I do think Zack Bon was was better certainly from um the Baltimore game so I fly around last night I thought he looked pretty good actually but I think niobe did too but I thought Bon did as well yeah well he was much better than he was in Baltimore um always much better but I I I just don't see the upside there um Bryce hop yeah you know Nick also gave a up I thought it was a pretty good answer on why the offensive starters didn't play and how many reps they got on on Tuesday it was in the 80s not not it was first and second Team guys but how many reps they got overall on Tuesday and he said it's just not fair for him to play that much and then have to come back on such a short notice and play in a preseason game which I thought was a pretty good explanation but then what the hell is Vick doing if B bick's on his Island like he can do whatever the freak he wants because he's got guys out there um you know whether it was uh Bryce Hoff or or Zack Bon or Devin white or other guys projected to be starters Isaiah Rogers quinan Mitchell um you know those guys had to do it and they were playing the same reps now most of them are very young so it's not as in I I think again you know if you educate the fans better I think the explanations come off better if you just go up there and tell the truth when you can tell the truth in other words I don't understand NFL teams that lie when they don't even have to lie like it's just say hey you know what we got a lot of really good proven players on offense and we don't need to see much from them so we're going to play a cautious and defensively we're we're we're we're trying to figure some things out bang that's it and I think it comes across I think it helps the organization better than the constant you know CIA like like level secrecy but that's Pie in the Sky that's never going to happen but I I I don't know are are are you that are you more comfortable I I'll ask you Xander are you more comfortable because Bryce hop looked good in 10 snaps or Zack Bon looked better in his 15 snaps than he looked better in Baltimore um are you I mean you I think you are a little bit I don't think you you take it to the bank but it's better than not seeing it right I mean look we can only evaluate what we've seen so far so when Bryce Hof comes to Philly and you see nothing in practice and then you see nothing in the first preseason game I'm not saying it's an indictment on the player but it does give you a sliver of hope I mean it might not be much but that's what we have on August 16th John so yeah well I I I think it's again I think it's about education More Than Hope um I don't care if people on V to be honest it's a good team it's just a matter of how good um so my my point is what are you getting from the evaluation of of 10 snaps from Bryce Huff like Vic knows he's going against Lane Johnson he's not he's not messed up with all that you know he he understands that well that's who matters I mean look I'm not you know I like the team but I'm not in control of anything so I understand that my opinion is just that it's just an opinion well no and I'm not anybody can have an opinion I'm just saying from the coaching staff's perspective you know it's it's and and fix old school so I mean he likes guys to get a little bit of of uh a little bit of playing time before week one he said it he he said it last week he said most guys don't want to have their first rep being a real game and they want to get a feel for it that's his thought process that hasn't been the Eagles thought process as a whole so you know either get on board with the organ ganization you know the Eagles can't have this little fif him off in the corner who's doing what he wants that's not going to work out long term so you know I and I I don't think the values there look I used to debate with Jody all the time Jody's more old schooled than me and he wants guys to be uh playing in the preseason I I think it's laughable to play the Eagles stars in the in the pre-season um and they don't to their credit um and they don't have as many stars on defense so it's not that big of a deal and they did it with jayen Carter and Jordan Davis who aren't technically Stars yet we all think they can turn into that but they they've even done it so why you you know why you singling out poor Bryce up maybe it puts a on his shoulder maybe he's motivating you know there's there's options but I I don't think you learn that much by having those guys out there no I think you're right but look like I said we take what we can get at this point of the year and it's exciting to see your new $7 million Edge rusher make a couple plays versus the alternative of him not making a couple plays that's all I don't I agree you're right I mean there's context must be added and it's not the end all be all look if he sucks in on September 6th or you know and by the way I think I I I think he's going to be a good player I've said I do too but by the way that's not a guarantee I mean you know Grace Huff is a projection so we have to see you know what he's going to be and we got rid of a really productive player to to to sign him so you know all of that matters and we'll say John any other takeaways here just before we close up this first segment I'm going to post it out for everybody so any other key takeaways from the game I thought the backup D line looked pretty good mojo early in the game any yeah I'm a big Thomas Booker guy I don't think he's but uh I thought he was really good like he's another guy I mean everybody should be on the Thomas Booker train he was a monster in the fourth quarter um and I and I get it quarterback is more high-profile but but uh Booker and NADA specifically I mean that's what you're trying to do if you're a backend roster guy you're trying to take advantage of your opportunities and trying to make hoe roseman's uh decision a little bit harder and I thought um you know J's going to make the team so he's not in that predicament but uh Booker is a bubble player and he's he's one of those guys where it's going to be tough to keep him but you don't want to lose them either so it'll be interesting to see how um it shakes out over the P we're getting close I mean Saturday a week from Saturday is the final pre-season game um and then Tuesday that next Tuesday is cut down day so we're getting closer um and some guys made a a strong it's not a final statement because they're going to play a lot on on Saturday next Saturday against the the Vikings but um specifically Booker and and NADA really were right there if you want to talk about the three best players you got to talk about the quarterback back but you got to talk about him Joe nding you gota you gotta talk about Thomas Booker I thought um I thought EJ Jenkins had a good game too as well I mean we talked about him a little bit last night does he have a chance to make this team as a backup tight end behind calcatera boy I I I I mean I I think somebody's got a block at some point I know that's the problem right him and calcatera are both subpar blockers and remember if you don't have if you don't have that backup that means you know Dallas can do it but that means have to play Dallas yeah you're put in line probably more than you want um because he's he's you want to get him involved in the passing game um so I still think it's going to be CJ uzama but he hasn't done anything so the more he kind of just coast along um but again everybody's not breaking down the blocking part of it so you'd like to see him make a play here or there uh but if the Eagles are comfortable I still think it's more likely CJ is the third tight end and EJ uh is on the practice squad John two super chats hit before we get to the break let's do them quickly because we have dammo in the green room waiting to join uh be joined by Paul Dom tackle but it's a different ball game when you're on an island out there and you kind of saw Max was not comfortable out there to say the least yeah and then who's 87 at tight end that's uh CJ uzama oh yeah he's struggled bad he's been struggling bad I don't think he's gonna make this team but we'll see what ends up happening let John let's get to our first commercial break good opening breakdown
