Oh Boy - UGA Football Coach Mike Bobo HAS To Get This Done

even with Carson Beck who might be the best quarterback in college football mike Bobo knows that he needs to run the damn ball that's a phrase that Georgia fans are very familiar with and this year I think they're going to do that Mike Boba talked about that and a slew of other topics with reporters last week but he said this specifically that jumped out to me what this program is built on is toughness and physicality on offense you want to be Innovative and play the game in space and try to be explosive you've got to be explosive on offense nowadays at the same time you don't want to lose your physicality as an offensive unit that's something we pride ourselves on it's a staple of what coach smart has done here since he's been here at the University of Georgia that's what Mike Bobo had to say we're going to talk about that and a lot more because this is a big year for Mike Bobo uh Georgia has gotten over the hump right beaten Alabama National Championship next year boom Another national title and while Mike bubo was on that staff as an assistant right he was an analyst assistant tight ends coach he wasn't the play caller right so Georgia has gotten over the hump I'm not sure Mike Bobo has right and there's a lot of people who are still very iffy on Mike Bobo got friends neighbors a lot of people a lot of you watching this are still either up in the air on Mike Bobo or just don't think he can get it done right just flat out cannot do it and there are others who firmly believe that he can he is a good officers coordinator I'm going to break down some numbers in a minute but one of the questions that he was asked about uh was as I try to find my notes you can read all this on dog post by the way uh is about adapting right and you have to adapt to the players you have but still be um you know strong to your roots and your identity and what you do and how you think as an offensive mind and as a play caller what's going to work what's not going to work but also using the best weapons and tools that you have but he said I tell the players all the time you've never arrived you're always learning that goes for us coaches too we're always trying to find new ways to do things not necessarily new but ways to do things better where we can be efficient on offense um and he is talking about the fact that listen Mike Bobo is a he's a quarterback's coach he develops quarterbacks he wants to throw the ball but he wants to run the ball as well and he showed that um during his earlier kind of 10 yards offens a coordinator under Mike uh excuse me under Mark Rick um he likes to run the the ball and use those backs and while developing and improving the quarterback play um and he said you know I ask other coaches the coaches that I know best guys that I played for I asked for their advice um he said I rely on coaches that have coached me as far as to you know again adapting learning trying to figure out what's working now not what's working in 2014 14 uh where Georgia stable of backs and a below average Quarterback in Hudson Mason he led them to 40 something points per game 2012 they had one of the best offenses in the country in program history they were uh Dynamic and electric and explosive in 2012 2013 senior Aaron Murray depleted offensive you know unit weapons all over the place they still averaged I think 36 uh points per game so but you have to figure out what's working now what's going to beat Alabama in s scoa what's going to um beat Texas and Austin if you have to get into a shootout what is going to work um but thankfully for Mike bubo this could be the best offense he's ever had at Georgia because or at least the most balanced right everyone knows about Carson Beck and what to expect out of him this year after a great season last year if you're familiar with our work if you're familiar with this channel you know by now the stable of running backs that they have they've got a great running back room Kirby really likes it and he mentioned that earlier uh this month but you know Mike bbo did too and of course you can read all that over on dog post the Outlets of line we've talked about it's experienced it's big it's very very good might be the best college football the tight ends we' talked about them the the weapons at wide receiver there's a lot of them M Bobo this is the Year this might be the year where he really uh needs to get it done they're losing a lot of pieces all over the offense after this year this might be his best chance but again going back to some of his quotes um you know he I rely on coaches that have coached me that's what I try to get to about a minute ago they've had a lot of experience Coach Rick coach Donan uh who I played for and then worked for and then Coach Rick who I worked for for a long long time they've got a lot of experience so you lean on those guys with experience um my own dad will be at practice today he said this last Thursday I was a coach for a long time I asked his opinion on how to do things so someone just ask you know where do you learn basically do you learn from other coaches across college football who do you go to when you need advice he basically just said the former Georgia coaches and his dad um but again going back to uh the point of this run the damn ball he's he's going to and I think he really wanted to against Alabama last year they lost the batt in the trenches and couldn't establish that running game but he didn't give up on the running game and you don't want him to they tried and it didn't work as well as it had all season long and it didn't work that day um but Carson Beck should be better I think the offensive line as unit could be better even without the starting center but here's what he had to say again about kind of adapting and not being able to rely just on a passing game or just on the Run game he said back in the day the game may have been a little bit simpler it was a little more physical but you got to adapt the game is played in space nowadays I don't want to uh did I read that quote already I think um lost in my notes lost in my notes maybe I did read that quote already um but yeah you want to be Innovative yeah yeah I did I covered all the bases got to be physical uh and it's still a line of scrimmage game and I know it's we're seeing more offenses nowadays get the ball out quicker short screens um quick passing Concepts uh stuff that b Knicks did right get the ball out quick to one guy maybe look at another guy if he's not there then you have to take off you got to run but you still want to break an opponent's will that's what Kirby Smart tells his players hey you know keep fighting keep pounding them into the ground for 60 minutes right impose your will on them make them not want to play you again right make sure they remember forever The Night They played the Titans right uh Remember the Titans if you're a young you know young kid watching this channel I I I hope you've seen that movie uh it's one of the best ever but this is a powerful physical game and I know it's important to be Innovative and crafty and have a finesse to your offense right you know you bust a a well executed screen pass you can go 50 60 yards right but you still have to be able to move the chains especially in the third and fourth quarter if you've got you know a 10-point lead and you know possessions are getting tight and everyone knows you're running the football you have to be able to so you have to mix in the Run game and how you run uh different concepts you can't just play Smashmouth Run game you still have to have a finesse type of running game and he knows all that and that's um something that I do think we're going to see more of this this uh this season but run the damn ball that's that's that's what I'm trying to get at and I think that's what Mike Bobo is going to do as well listen I forgot to plug this minutes ago uh but College bron.com that's where you over 200 lb except for Dwight Phillips I believe the incoming freshman who who is one of the fastest players on the roster right he doesn't have to be 220 they got big Hefty you know strong Bulldogs right uh getting after running the ball and uh I have high expectations for this group I've made several videos about that and uh the people that are in these close practices and these scrimmages they're like yeah they can run they're all over the place and I'm not just talking about Trevor etn it's it's Branson Robinson it's rodri Robinson a lot of guys uh were hearing good things about but you know yeah Carson Beck's going to have to make some plays some big fourth quarter throws to close out some games or and come from behind games right and the offense will in some ways run through
