Minnesota Vikings predictions: Aaron Jones, Week 1 and more

Connell it is uh write that down purple daily Wednesday you will notice on the screen that Phil is absent he's got some personal business to take care of today his predictions though are in the can he predictions from everybody each week they must be quantifiable predictions we do keep track of completion percentage and touchdowns on this Edition and if you'd like to be on a episode of write that accountability session for everyone okay um we obviously had 53 man roster set so a lot of predictions flying off the board here so we will start with you here's what you have oh oh no oh no we'll start are some louisine predictions you said louisine will be traded to the Eagles or Saints also we don't have the button bar so you can just you you can hear the buzz in your head if you'd like uh you said louen will lead the Vikings in tackles on Saturday versus the Eagles that is also incorrect uh little parlay you said Andre Carter II will make the 53 but Gabriel Murphy will not that also that's pre-training Camp it was a terrible call by me no I get it I I have some too I believe terrible call yep uh Jaylen Naylor will lead the Vikings in receiving yards this preseason I believe that belonged to Tristan Jackson dang it uh another incorrect prediction you said quacy will not be the Vikings GM for the 2024 season and 124 a year ago yeah so no faith no faith in qu no I don't no quite frankly I don't but I'm glad he's still here you did say though Levi Drake Rodriguez would make the 53 man roster so a little bit of uh Salvation there to get some green that c of red Joey Gallow at bat and I didn't even get the Home Run say he didn't get the Home Run I mean Joey Gall at least hits a bomb good point yeah good point Mackey got the small print on for this one oh my God this a we'll go through some of these I'm not going to read all of these but let's see here 1 2 3 4 5 6 Seven 8 nine nine incorrect predictions couple two for 11 couple completions at the end that I'll get to um lisis will lead the Vikings in tackles or have a tfl or be evolved in a turnover that didn't happen uh another parway said the Vikings uh defense would hold the Eagles at 17 points or less that didn't happen uh Theo Jackson would force a turnover recovery fumble in a preseason game that did not happen uh the following five players will not make the 53 lisis seen which was correct Andrew Booth which was correct Nelle Harry which was correct but jiren Hall and Ryan Wright made the roster so that is incorrect uh the winner Mr manada would be Gabriel Murphy or lucky Jackson I mean if gab Murphy didn't get hurt he picked the wrong Jackson he picked the wrong Jackson a lot of Gabriel Murphy related predictions from Phil he also said Gabriel Murphy which just straight up make the 53 he did not which he sort of which he sort of did by being put on the short-term IR but in a technicality that's not the 53 yeah you're right uh the Vikings would obtain draft capital in exchange for I guess no he got waved so yeah this is technically just give give us the two Phil got right all right we about how here's a couple for Phil he said Matt carral would complete at least one pass in the final preseason game good soldier there in Matt Carell gets some QB so Mackie gets a completion and then Michael Jurgens will be on the Vikings 53 man roster at some point in 20124 so a rough week for mcak the listeners Cody said the Vikings will beat the Browns but lose to the Eagles and in both games the Vikings quarterbacks combined for at least two touchdowns the Vikings went undefeated in this year's preseason no than yeah they're three and six now because oconnell hadn't previously won he was 0 and six going into the exhibition uh schedule and then swept it so he's now three and six he's rebounding in the preseason all right Chad also said the Vikings would keep at least five udfas they only kept three on the initial 53 so that is incorrect um Austin said in week 1 of 24 the Vikings will have four new faces on the defensive line and four new faces in the secondary and louisine will be no lower than third on the Jeet dep chart seen much lower than third on the depth chart nice little note there from not on the he's not not going to work not going to not going to work here anymore all right here's old Dex tweets mixed bag lot of incorrect predictions but at least a touchdown and some salvageable ones at the end uh I said Gabe Murphy and jesuan Jones I won't read all of these Gabe Murphy and jesuan Jones will make the initial 53 that didn't happen uh said Duke Shelly the Duke would intercept a pass in a preseason game that didn't happen and he was waved how about a Robert tanion W I was really drinking this Kool-Aid uh I said he'd make the 53 and it'll be the first Viking tight end to record a touchdown in the 24 regular season do you know what all of the incorrect predictions for the most part have in common Declan they are all all of us probably prematurely making predictions that we should withhold if we're going to make them until like a week or two into Camp yeah because you get all excited like it it's July training camp is coming you're like here's what's going to happen here's what's going to happen and then you go to prac practices and guys get hurt or you see something and you're like oh that's not going to happen I I think I'm going to withhold my training camp predictions until I've actually seen a little bit of trading Camp next year I don't know you get into that May or June area I I think we'll still be uh we'll drink the Kool-Aid again I'm trying to myself I said the Vikings will execute a squib kick in the preseason I think that's illegal now so uh I don't think that's even possible to make a squib kick happen right with the new kickoff form you can it just has to land I believe in the correct Zone so you you can like Pooch it in the air and as long as it's airborne and it lands on the 20 it's got to land in that the ball has to end up in that zone or else I think it goes to the 40 yard line but anyway keep going uh I said the Thomas would make the 53 man roster that kind of wraps up some my incorrect predictions I did say though jiren Hall will throw for at least two touchdowns on Saturday that's good enough for a touchdown jiren Hall had nice little game there dingding so a touchdown for me uh I said Dwight mlof would make the 53 also correct prediction and that KOC would address Jud by name at training camp offseason practice or some sort of video audio confirmation we did have that so KOC Jud z a buddy cop coming to your theaters uh this fall in 2024 I'm crusty old cop I I I like I like making predictions about KOC and Jet it's a good good T cross fuel a cop in this scenario all right so 2024 stats we are through the draft we are through OTAs we are through pre-season look at this look at this we are knocking on the door we're what J 11 days away from the uh week one opener against the Giants yes and let me just say this I had a terrible week and you're about to read the percentages and I actually think I've gone I'm I'm like the twins I am backing into actually increasing my lead I think I had I will say even just to throw stones at myself here I think after the draft I had about a 12 I had a 10 plus percentage Point dude you had a ridiculous draft and this has now fallen to under nine to under 10 so I mean this could be collapses of all collapses if I don't have a good 2024 reg heat is on 64 Phillies that's all I got to say you're like the 64 fills with Gene Mack you're about to collapse but regardless uh old Dex tweets does lead in completion and touchdowns at 46.3 and 5 Jud at 372 and four macki with just one touchdown all the shade we hear from checkdowns and we only see next week to him one touchdown I like it listeners with three touchdowns and 25.7 alltime stats Phil does lead all time 47 touchdowns closing in at 46 is myself uh listeners with 42 touchdowns Jud with 37 touchdowns so there you go there's your write that down predictions here on purple daily let's get our guy Ron in here Ron what's going on man welcome to purple daily write that down good morning Brothers how's it going excellent excellent this they are zero and zero Ron life has never felt so good they haven't lost the game hope hope is Hope is in the air so things are good it Springs Eternal at this age amen exactly right so you you off the air to told us a little bit about your journey but give us the cliff notes of the fact that you are one of the few Vikings fans out east well it started back in 1972 um Dad brought home our first color tv and I see them I don't know whether it was highlights or a game and I just asked them I said dad who are those guys wearing white and a purple with those cool looking white horns and he said well they're the Vikings he goes they used to be good until they traded away their best player this quarterback that could run around right meaning Fran darkin to the Giants he goes but I read somewhere where I think they're going to try to get him back and I just started that day and uh sometime in 1972 Dex explain the rules we'll start with Ron and uh we'll be off and going on write that down all right Ron you were first under Center here so your first prediction will start we'll then go to Jud we'll go to Dean Macky has his predictions pre-recorded so Ron you're under Center what is your uh first prediction here sir okay write this down in the week 14 game versus the Atlanta Falcons Vikings linebacker Dallas Turner will sack Kirk Cousins at least once and either the players or the fans will chant right afterwards you like that loud enough that Kirk will hear it oh I like this prediction I'm a Kirk supporter I I I supported him coming on board sure but I didn't like the subsequent contracts when he could have did us a little bit of a favor yes what's up you know and I I point to guys like Brady who didn't take a lot of money and he's got six rings to show for it right y I believe we've had some type of combination of the Dallas Turner sack on Kirk Cousins with a you like that for multiple listeners so I I I like that other people are getting getting this one in was what I was going to say all right so that's our first one here's mine the Vikings will be in it's very football geeky the Vikings will be in 22 Personnel for their first play of the Season against the Giants that means they will have two running backs two tight ends and one receiver Addison's banged up and I'm not positive what his status is going to be but more importantly this team has made has spent training camp making it very clear that they are going to run the football and run more power and so I think what we are going to is off the Record Aaron Jones starting two tight ends and and CJ ham as well and they are going to run the football on the first play so I think the Vikings are going to try to set a tone for the season with 22 Personnel on that first play against the Giants a week from Sunday Delan I like it all right first one for me I will I'll make a prediction to about week one so right now the line of that game is 41 A2 I talked about this on feedback Friday write this down at some point that line will dip to 39 half or lower I think I think this is going to continue to go south that's going to be it's going to be a rough football game and even though as much it's it's rare NFL games have over over unders under 40 there is one right now between the Saints and Panthers rightfully so I think this one's also going to trickle down I think they're going to ride some unders with uh Daniel Jones versus Sam darnold I don't think you're going to see a lot of scoring so we this might be a little tricky because lines do shift a lot so if we see it at all I'll try to find it even for our listeners who are always great at tracking our own predictions here if anyone else sees it let me know but 39 a half at some point uh before kickoff between Vikings and Giants all right let's go to Phil via satellite for his first prediction okay Macky via satellite here pre-recorded predictions I'm sorry I can't be live on the show today with you guys making write that down predictions uh my last remaining grandparent is not doing so well and so I'm making a trip to visit my grandpa my last remaining grandparent or parent it's getting kind of lonely here in the old uh Macky family but let's make some football predictions let's brighten this thing up I've got a Vikings week one three item parlay to start us off write this down the Giants offense will score 16 points or fewer against Brian flores's defense Sam darnold will throw at least one touchdown pass and big leg bill will rker will knock home at least a 40 plus yard field goal need all three of those things to happen a week one Vikings parlay write it down he's coming out aggressive right there with three things Ron back to you prediction number two what do you got write this down in the season series versus the NFC North the Lions will sweep the Vikings the Vikings will sweep the Bears and the Vikings will SP with Green Bay like this okay so so you you think that uh that the flores's defense is going to confuse Caleb enough to probably get a couple of picks off him and potentially a pick six or you know because I do think that that to me is going to be the most interesting thing in the maturation of Caleb is because he's good and he's got a great arm but like flores's defense is going to be you know something he has not seen before he certainly didn't see it in college so I sort of like that that's correct I I think that he definitely struggles in the in the US Bank and uh at Chicago I think he's going to be confused because our defense is going to be marketly better than last year I agree with you completely there too um all right back to me Sam darnold in the opener will complete three or more passes to Aaron Jones so Jones can catch the ball I think we're going to see like I think we I think we're thinking that the way oconnell coached Kirk is going to be the way that he coaches Sam or calls plays and that to me is catastrophic like you can't do Kirk is a markedly better quarterback but you know you've now got a running back in Jones who can catch the ball we've talked about this before he can catch screen passes so three or more receptions for Aaron Jones from darnold in the September 8th opener Declan I like it yeah I I thought about making an Aaron Jones one too I'm I'm probably going to bank it for maybe next week uh before week one but I'll make a running back related prediction for the Vikings so write this down the Vikings will acquire a running back by week one who has at least five NFL touchdowns okay so right now the the running back room is Aaron Jones Ty Chandler CJ ham I think they're going to add someone and this could come off the board probably more today than I think like in the future cuz with all the roster cuts that have happened but they will acquire a running back who is currently not on their 53 who has at least five NFL touchdowns to his name between now and week one write it down all right all right Phil for his second prediction prediction number two my guy the gster Andrew van GLE will lead all Vikings defensive players in pressures PFF is the uh measurement here PFF tallies up pressures for everyone each week so he will lead all Vikings players in pressures week one against the Giants he's been lurking in the weeds he's been hanging out under the radar one of the five maybe four most important Vikings players on the roster and you're going to see why week one Andre van gingle he doubles down more than I do I swear to God van gle's good and I really like him I and all I said to Phil was I don't know that he's the fourth most important player but he's really really good like like he is going to contribute and I'm with Ron this defense to me is far more suited from a Personnel standpoint to what what Flores wants but uh that's Phil baby all right Ron you're third and final what do you got okay we're gonna continue with the running backs uh write this down in the games versus Green Bay Vikings running back Aaron Jones will rush for more than 20 yards in each game and he will be named NFC offensive player of the week in one of those two games very nice very nice I got that from Randy Moss's paybacks throughout his career yeah I don't Thanksgiving yes yeah exactly and and look I mean I do think Jones he's not a young guy but I I think he's got enough left in the tank here's my question with him can he stay healthy like that's my one question if he doesn't it's a real problem if he does he he I think he brings a running back element to this team that Kevin oconnell has not had including cook like dvin cook lost a ton of yards he gained some yards had some nice runs made some nice plays but I think if Aaron Jones maximizes himself in 2024 that that's going to give the Vikings an offensive Edge an offensive weapon that oconnell has not had so Ron O Okay shout outs who do you want to thank and you you you know started with your dad but who do you want to thank out there for supporting your Vikings fandom which sounds like it's been pretty for the most part lonely but acknowledge them go ahead I'd like to acknowledge the four other guys that I grew up with in a one square mile town that were uh Vikings fans yep okay and I'll acknowledge my other half she's been very supportive as far as that goes so uh it's been one Journey it's been one special and prideful Journey that I hope continues long into the future very nice last question so you you became a fan in 72 I started to follow him in 78 so you you've got at least six years on me I hate to ask this but I'm going to what do you consider your most painful Viking moment The 1975 Hail Mary passed from stall back to Pearson well that's a great and I tell you why because Drew Pearson was from Central New Jersey and I got to meet him years later yeah and I actually said to him I threw I was working in a local grocery store and I threw a yellow rag in the air and I said offensive pass interference number 88 10 yard penalty replay the down and he was laughing I said Mr Beer it's an honor to meet you but you did push Nate Wright that day amen did great stuff Ron thanks much okay thank you skull to you all right Ron take care great stuff from Ron there I didn't see that coming that's a great but that that's a great one there's a there has been a claim that that that is and I think it's right that is where the pain starts so you got the Nelson didn't catch the ball in the end zone against Washington in the NFC championship game in 87 you got obviously 98 2009 but that that divisional playoff loss decks uh there are a lot of old school Vikings fans who say in the 70s a team that went to essentially the Super Bowl four times and lost it that was their best team so yeah I didn't see that coming but it's a great choice all right before we get to my third and final prediction I want to talk about my friends at Finch this relates to the September 29th game at Lambo field I do not believe this prediction has been made Aaron Jones will score a touchdown and will do a lambo leap now he'll probably find a nice pocket of Vikings fans but he will do he'll score a touchdown could be a receiving could be a rushing but he will then do proceed to do a lambo leap to celebrate and unlike Fred Smoot back in that 200 what was that six game I don't think they'll pour beer on the poor guy's head but I don't know I don't think so I think they like him enough that they won't D him with they plus that's a waste of beer since when do Wisconsin nights waste beer oh they they'll just go buy more good point okay you know do all right last one for me after reading uh Jud zad's substack and substack dcom which by the way only free for a limited more time right before we're going to start charging yeah we're going to put we're we're going to punch that button we're going to punch that button when the season starts little pay wall coming at you uh write this down Walter Rouse or Michael Jurgens Andor because if both of them start I don't want to lose on a technicality regardless right Walter Rouse Endor Michael Jurgens will get a start on the offensive line at some point between weeks one and four oh wow oh you took the zad substack to a heart I did I did I think we're going to see either most likely is an injury cuz but then they got backups you know like quinberry is the backup a tackle and well fen's the backup at Center and guard but he's been hurt so J you're not okay I'm gonna go with Walter Rouse or Jurgens I'm gonna shoot my shot with both those guys here that's a touchdown make sure Phil knows that that's a yeah that's a big downfield pass right there it's it's most likely an injury to you know Ingram or maybe you know brandle gets hurt we always this happens every year and and mostly this does happen by the way I know you I think you have one on the board about a prominent quarterback getting hurt they all we always just assume everyone's healthy and then boom dominoes start to fall baby that's football so Walter Rouse Jurgens they will get a start on the offensive line at some point between Week 1 and four so really I mean pending something happening in practice I don't see this happening in week one but my point is something's going to happen in week one quick yeah it'll be quick I can see Jurgen so so fen's the backup at both guards I think and center but as I said he's been hurt and so I could see Jurgens and Jurgens also so the one thing that leads me to believe at Center that if Bradbury gets hurt you might be right is before feny went down yeah Jurgens was actually playing Center and feni had been kicked out to guard with out and so Jurgens took now he definitely isn't a polished product yet but he took a ton of snaps there at Center so okay but that's a that's a ballsy call I mean you read the substack and went hardcore I did X isn't always there that's good stuff that's what I do bring Bring It On All Right Phil's last prediction here on purple daily right that down okay prediction number three one of these undrafted defensive linemen so Jaylen Redmond who was undrafted 2023 I Believe by the Panthers he makes the Vikings 53 uh Levi Drake Rodriguez and Taki taiani so those three guys one of those three guys will tally a sack or a tackle for loss before the Vikings bye so the spirit of this prediction is I think it was a really smart move keeping these young hungry uh High motor defensive players instead of maybe one of the veterans and at least one of them if not multiple will make an impact early in the season so jayen Redmond Levi Drake Rodriguez Taki taiani one or more of them will tally a sack or a tfl before the purple daily write that down a little bit of semi breaking news coming through from our friend at Tom pisero four time Pro Bowl running back Dalvin cook is signing with the Cowboys so Zimmer getting the band back together in Dallas with Mike McCarthy so Dalvin cook back he's going to Dallas uh so another former Viking joining up with Zim and the Cowboys down uh down in Texas okay do you find this interesting that Mike is the DC there and yet like there's moves like like this is an offensive side move right like all the defensive guys I'm I'm like well that's his side of the ball I mean he's you know essentially the head coach of that side of the ball this is interesting like I'm sure Mike vouched for Dalvin sure but you know the Dallas thing it's weird we always expect the Cowboys coaches to be fired and and in Mike McCarthy's defense regular season record-wise they've been fantastic play they've been an utter disappointment but this to me is interesting that it feels like it feels like Mike is having a little bit more sway than ordinary for a coordinator perhaps especially when you're talking about the side of the ball he doesn't coach so I saw a clip I don't know if you saw this on Twitter a couple days ago of Dalvin working out and I forget who tweeted it but the PO their point was a year ago he he was hurt and so he joined the Jets but he hadn't he couldn't he couldn't work out I think it was the shoulder problem and so he showed up I don't know if he was out of shape but he was out of football shape and it was a disastrous year and they showed him now and he's in fantastic shape the problem is the age and the wear and tear though like can being I mean I guarantee you right now Adrien Peterson's in fantastic shape oh yeah yeah yeah I'm sure he's a specimen it doesn't matter so like that's the thing that you can't get fooled into well this guy's in great shape so he's not if you're a running back it's tread on the tire yeah um but that's interesting so well good for cook I saw some folks when when we talked about or uh tweeted about the running back room for the Vikings being down to essentially two guys yesterday saying bring back dvin cook I'm like I'm good on Dalvin cook yeah I'm good on that I'm good on Dalvin cook I don't need him to come back but uh I'm glad he got a job and it's going to be it's going to be very interesting because the Cowboys to me CD lamb ju just signed yep and here's what I don't get about that explain this to me Dex so that took all training camp like it took all Camp he essentially signed the deal that we all thought he would get which is you're not Justin Jefferson but you're really really good so we'll give you just a smidge less right explain to me why that took what's the haggling there like if he had exceeded Jefferson I'd be like okay I totally get why this took so long but can you explain to me why that took so long to land at a place that we all basically thought that's where they're going to land I don't know I I you know all these receivers keep setting the market and he wants to be paid like JJ and it's clear that CD lamb is a very quality nice receiver but he's not Justin Jefferson correct um so they're just waiting for it's it's all negotiation tactics I think is all it just comes down to it's just a bunch of agent and player hoopla do you think a year from now and and it sounds like so he conducted a Holden with the Bengals he is now relented Jamar Chase do you think that a year from now he gets a contract that exceeds the Jefferson one because that's the next one to me yes I I do um and if burrow is indeed healthy and the Bengals are who they are I mean the Bangals should be one of the two to three best teams the AFC true I would assume that he's a huge part of their offensive success so yeah I would I would assume he resets the market again so what's weird is you know the Bal are paying the problem is they're paying burrow bur and by the way they're notoriously cheap too yes they um but they're so like the the question then is if you pay if if you're maxing out on burrow and Chase and I know that the cap is huge and goes up but at some point in time you're going to have to go cheap at different positions too like you're GNA like the thing that the Vikings have right now Dex the quarterback room cost you nothing yep big one I mean darnold 10 mil for a year jiren Hall you know $5 as much as the McCarthy injury hurts he's on a fiveyear team controlled contract so that's the thing is like the Vikings could afford to comfortably do the Jefferson contract because they don't have a quarterback sucking a ton of the cab space the Bengals don't have have that but I do think that that where uh if Chase stays with the Bengals or has to be traded whatever I think that he is the first guy to exceed the Jefferson contract so absolutely right down predictions man they're in the books again good stuff here on purple daily right that down Ron was great Ron really good stuff 1972 beats meh said you used to get your clippings from not Vikings Vikings update Viking update I used to do the uh for uh for Bob lur as Viking update I used to do the player profiles and I'm going to tell you right now player profiles and it they they couldn't be the same guys right so I did draft picks a ton and any any schlep that came along like if you spent a day in the Vikings Locker Room Circa 1995 I was going to find you and milk and and milk some type of feature which was long so like I had to get these guys to sit down it was not uh there were some guys that probably weren't too thrilled I had the uh privilege and honor of sitting next to uh John holler Vikings update for three years at US Bank I also worked with and that's and that's when like a guy like Ron who who was uh Vikings fan on the East Coast you couldn't go online because there was no online so you like literally would get Viking update and that
