Matt Chapman Is A Tone Setter

I don't know why I said Matthew no I like that Matt it's probably Matt I should just say Matt CH we did it Matthew we beat the we no we hit 20 home runs oh yeah well that was going to happen we did it we did throw a party uh get the pleasantries out of the way cuz I got some Chatman thoughts oh okay all right all right go ahead give me the thoughts I I want to hear them now don't rush me with the pleasant all right so here here are the Chapman thoughts you got to have a veteran on this team who understands how to prepare at the big league level and somebody that has cache I'm I'm not here to say that he's some star he's not a star he's not he's a really good um everyday player that's what he is I I've read this long form article about Steven vote and the Cleveland Guardians who was in the athletic and why Steven vote has been resonating with the Cleveland Guardians and I found it very interesting this the bat on that one well that's a whole another conversation but I found it very interesting that every single person vote some of the guys on his staff um alberes who's like his assistant um their catcher Austin Hedges everyone to a man said to themselves the guy who sets the tone for everyone falling in line behind Stephen vote is Jose Ramirez and so I'm not here to say that Matt Chapman is on the same level as Jose Ramirez cuz Jose Ramirez is going to be probably a borderline if not Hall of Famer someday but when I look at how this team has been constructed over the last six seven years I think you're looking at the best everyday player maybe since Buster posy on the Giants and now that's not saying much cuz they haven't had a lot of those but to pencil him in every single day and to kind of know what you're getting from him defensively he made a a play near the near the awning the fence the whatever The netting that they call it it was just a it was a great play he has been a really really really good giant do I want to give him a seven-year deal no do I want to give him a three-year deal and have him stay yes I do and I think Matt Chapman has had a really good year this year and it's going to get lost in the sauce but I'm really enjoying Matt Chapman every single day we we'll see what happens with this contract he's 31 years old 20 home runs 62 RBI now you leave guys around him I'm not mad him we interviewed him earlyer in the season came away very impressed with what mat Chapman is what he's all about the way he goes about his business he's a Pros Pro every single day you're going to get full out effort from him I'm not mad chap you got to sign somebody you got to have somebody in this line now you need to build around them so I'm not mad at match happen by the way good morning and oh baby oh baby o baby good morning to all the graveyard shift workers all the overnight dancers everybody out there 888 957 9570 we're going to do a Vibe check with the 49ers a little bit later um by the way shout out to our friends at flowing water Plumbing drain if you're going to call it to the roast you better bring it because if you don't you will be flush brought to you by flowing water Plumbing drain and we're qualifying two more people today to have breakfast with the Roose September 6th on the Friday that's right we'll kick off the football season Friday September the 6 and we'll have breakfast right here at 857 game so listen all this week between 7:30 and 8:00 and we have 10 spots were giving away we have eight left we're going to give away two of those eight today uh between 7:30 and 8:00 and when you hear this Sounder be the 10th caller and you win a spot for breakfast with the rast breakfast will be provided by Ja restaurant so Chapman's been a nice story for the Giants Ramos has been a nice story even though the batting average has slipped to 27 9 Fitz dral is is a good story Lamont Way Jr goes two for three you beat the wide Sox the lowly wide Sox and I'm I'm sure people were saying uh oh in the fifth inning when they took a one nothing lead and I'm sure people were saying uh oh in ninth inning when Jordan Hicks was on the mound you didn't know where the ball was going he got a little ertic at times huh I don't think he knew where the ball was going thankfully Kurt cassali knew where one of those pitches were going although he threw a wild pitch the very next pitch but you're able to survive a win a game against Haw socks so now you're one game over 500 Kyle Harrison did what he had to do white he looks solid he look Sol can you get the guy some run support early in the game so that he can pitch the lead like that would be something I would love to look into like how many innings has he going out onto the mound where he's had a lead yeah not not many not many and and so you were talking about kirali I really like Kirk Cali had a big hit in this game finally broke the seal uh to drive in some runs but Bonte he can't throw out anyone I mean he needs a cut off to throw from catcher to second it's so bad it's not good it's so bad now a combination of that is the Giants struggle holding Runners on they don't throw over uh really ever and all of their guys have a high leg kick and so they're doing their their catcher no service in terms of trying to slow down a runner but that being said like Cal's arm poor guy like him a lot he's a liability defensively a win like that you're playing the white socks and that was my focus when I was watching the game cuz in my opinion I was like the Giants got to win this game now you're five back in the Lost call up to the atlanda Braves they just lost ausar riy for quite some time that could do them in he's he's a starred third baseman All Star uh yeah it's not good for the Braves they've just been littered with injuries to Big Boys alz Ronald aun Jr Austin Riley and uh Spencer Strider just brutal brutal for the atena Braves yet they're still hovering eight games above 500 still trying to get into the playoffs now you're three back of the bets they come back and they beat the Orioles yesterday with a walk-off so look I'm not going to sit here ber everybody with playoff talk playoff talk when it comes to the San Francisco Giants but my focus yesterday was just how on the white socks and how bad they are they're historically bad folks 30 and 96 on the season again they've won 30 games and we're Midway through August there's 35 games left for the Giants they've got to get to 43 I I don't I don't know if they're going to get there I don't know if they'll get there now they may sneak one in here they beat the Yankees last week they beat the asholes in the game last week sneak one in they may sneak one you you hope they don't sneak one in at record again 30 and 96 just wild to listen to 30 and 96 it is August 20th and they have 30 wins on the season now they do have a baller at Luis Robert Jr and you think that is he is he a baller though well he's just I I mean he's lost he he can't he's got all the talent in the world he's got all the talent in the world he's he's hurt all the time he's 27 years old he's a guy I take a chance on but you look at the power last year he hit 38 home runs the year before he only played 98 games year before he only played 68 so injuries have really derailed his career but you see the talent you saw the Talent last season you saw the talent his rookie season he's got speed he's got 18 soling bases this year he has power I mean you got nobody batting around you you're betat 216 I don't know I don't know but I look at him saying I'm looking at him and I'm saying I would take a chance on a guy like yeah I don't know I'm very iffy on him I was looking at another player the Santa Rosa kid Andrew vaugh and I was just looking at some of his Advanced numbers and he got off to a really slow start was red hot in in June cooled off big time in July and then his red hot again in August and I'm saying to myself like he could not play on a worse team well he's a first baseman who's got some okay Power he's in 2023 he hit a career-high 21 home runs um not bad not bad at all on 152 games I like Andrew vau he's not bad I mean he's a number three overall pick it's pretty incredible it is incredible but has he lived up to that no no but I would also say that you know the just the situation and the organization they might be as bad as we rip the A's the white socks might be worse at developing and sustaining you can make that same argument for Lu Robert Jr I mean the guy did hit 38 Jacks last year it's true I mean 38 Jacks is nothing to scoff at I mean the last time we had somebody hit over 28o run uh hit 28 I believe I think Bel hit 29 2 29 that's right he got 29 he got stuck he would have been the 30 the guy who had 30 home runs for the first time since bar bonds 27 in his final year and then I believe arbe and huff hit 26 in 2010 yeah 26 25 something like that Huff had a really good year in 2 they had a great year um so you look I was just looking at how does an organization become that bad like to me that's the story how bad the white that's a proud now they've had some up and downs over the course of my lifetime of course but that's a proud Organization for the most part their gear always sells a lot of people wear white socks hats uh they got some really cool colors when they went to that color way the black and white with the pin stripes it's like wow the rebranding was really good for the white socks now I I told L Lan's been to this yard you forget they're in Chicago cuz you go to rickley field and it's sold out and it's a lot of fun and rickley field and everything and you go to the south side of Chicago guarantee right field the atmosphere of Shas you want to talk about just there's M Elite San Jose Giants may have a better atmosphere than the White Soxs and where they play so did you see the movie uh the saint of Second Chances is a documentary I believe it's on Netflix I I I could be wrong but it's about um ve the owner of the white socks during the 70s no no I've never seen it so your point about like proud franchise it really wasn't I thought it was more cuz it's an older franchise obviously and when he took over um Mike ve this is um he was the guy who came up with the Disco demolition he was a legitimate chicagoan and this is the the era of owners where they didn't have a lot of money like he took out all of his money to buy the team and and and they didn't have anything and so they treated that team in the 70s like they were a minor league team so there were different draws on what would try to get crowds going there and whatnot and so to your point of like I think in Our Minds The White sock brand because of I think Hip-hop and culture like the white sock logo kind of means something ites but like within baseball they've always been a laughing stock outside of a couple of pockets of winning yeah they've been up and down right I mean they had Jack mow Frank Thomas and they made the playoffs in the early 90s and then they fell off the cliff and then of course they went a World Series in in the mid 2000s with a G now toy Russa helped turn that program around in the 80s before taking the A's job but really they've been this team that you think that boy they've got a lot of talent they spend money on some big time free agents and they always underachieve now they've underachieved to astronomical levels this season and you could blame Tony larusa for the downfall of this team where they did have things rolling Jose a br you that ELO Jimenez you know L who's who's Yan Mona's always hurt I mean they just I just couldn't believe I'm watching that game Thinking Matt is staying up watching this team you're a wh fan and staying up are you staying up late on the Midwest to watch that baseball team it's interesting you say that cuz the the boss lived in Chicago for a long time he's a big Cubs fan oh thank you he's a big Cubs fan and uh I asked him like like are the white socks like the A's in terms of coverage and and you know where where they stand in Mark he's like no they're actually worse yeah and I'm like really he's like yeah cuz at least the A's have like players that Everyone likes the white socks were horrible horrible I know they wanted an ' 05 uh with PA your eBay who we referenced earlier but outside of that I mean they've had zero sustainability um over the years and then obviously you know moving out of kamsky and and and they're they've been trying to get out of there for what 25 years well they built that yard to new kamsky and it's just as bad it's nothing there usell it's guaranteed R Field gued guaranteed right field and Anna and I went out there to a Royals White Sox game on a Friday night should be guaranteed lost field it should be that's not bad uh $ five tickets they had a statue of uh Carlton Fisk they had a statue and then they had their little was he in biker uh he was not bik this was part of the bill ve he was like experimenting with things of how he get people to go and they went to the shorts I know it's crazy I know uh kind of liked it not goingon to lie it's just different I was like do they Rock shorts for real in a game that's just wild it is wild I mean it's such a bad look I mean the new kamis could be farther away from I mean it's on the south side of Chicago and it is out there we took the subway out there and you know got $5 tickets to a Royals White Sox game and it was just sterile they had their own version of like the patio of like what uh the public house looks like across the street nobody was in there it's pretty nice but nobody like why would anybody drive down they need to be closer to the city if you want to get the White Sox brand rolling and threaten the Cubs Brad you got to get closer to the skyscrapers you got to build closer to Soldier Field it is just so out there so I always wondered how Matt kosi and B fitg became white sock fans instead of Cub fans like I live with these people I love these people they're part of my family seriously the white sock is part of Fitz's family they're part of msk's family for a major Market Chicago's had a lot of losing over the last 25 years I mean I know they they got Michael Jordan and so that that kind of like Recons a lot of a lot of the misery but the Bulls have not been good no for a long time consistently and you think about Derrick Rose and the would have could have should those teams were good like the Joe Keem Noah L dang dere those team Ben Gorton was Air Force they've been bad for a long time and then the Cubs have been hit and miss I would say for for quite sometimes I know they're The Lovable losers but when we were growing up they were good in the 80s and then they had their Moment In the late 90s especially with Sammy S the early 2000s with with Dusty like they've been relevant the white sock have been irrelevant outside of the 05 season and then the Bears now they've got Caleb but I mean one Rex Gman season they've had a couple playoff moments uh Jay Cutler got to a conference yeah the double doy they've had a couple playoff moments but they they're offense offensive ineptitude lack of lack of days quarterback play so they're hoping that Caleb could bring them some promise they're hoping that the Cubs could turn things around now grigley field looks nice at least you go out there and you feel like watch a Major League Baseball the atmosphere is great it's an iconic venue the white match you know that's a good call with with Matt neagan about the A's and the White Sox being a two Team market now the White Sox are not leaving anytime soon well no no no no no no we don't think they're going to leave but they are flirting with Nashville they are flirting the the what's the guy who owns the Bulls come on rorf has been flirting with other cities him and the bears were trying to do a joint venture yes to Arlington and then that kind of broke apart the Bears would be smart to have nothing to do with the white so the White Sox would try to latch out to the and build their own comp and the Bears are like we're kind of C fans you know what I'm saying maybe that's what they're thinking if ryes dorf did move that team that would be criminal because I do think Chicago could support two teams and like the Cubs you know the south side of Chicago is like you know Blue Collar if anybody watch Shameless and you ever been out there now you got to be safe out there the Southside there's no doubt about that dangerous cities in America yeah well dangerous areas in America hundred of murders year oh trust me know I know sad every day on X there's videos that pop up on my feet and I'm just like wow it's it's not a it's not a great seed not a great seed at all so I don't know man I I I just I was watching them thinking how can a franchise stoop to that level now we got the A's in our own Market but I'm looking at the White Soxs and I'm just saying they are 30 and 96 I couldn't focus on the Giants like to me they better win that game right there's no like fist puming for beating the white socks I'm not like saying like woo we got one I'm going be real over 500 Harrison needed that bad he did he just needed that like the kid needed a Duba he needed to you know go up against the garbage team and and that well on the other side we got to talk about something with lont way Jr not being able to run like I I'm so I was triggered last night at seeing that you got triggered with this it was a microcosm of everything that drives me crazy with this with this organization there was nothing that could possibly trigger me about that game no no no no there was something that triggered me I want to talk about cuz to me it was just it's the white socks they're 30 and 96 when you close your eyes and and you say the white socks who's the player cuz I know exactly what Frank Thomas what I me Frank Thomas I completely agree the Big Hurt Frank Thomas and Jackson later on in his career Scott uh what's the name Scotty pods V Robin vur is a good one Jack McDow Jermaine Dy Jermaine D is really good that is really good Legend Harold bades Harold Baines is a b that's a really good boki border had a great had a great career with I think 300 something home runs 439 439 home run do the doers got rid of him canero was a beast Dodgers got rid of him to Adam dud Jim Toby Adam dud was there for a man go OG go Luis apparicio right oo look at that flexing your your Big Red Machine muscle as they move look at that look at that all right we're coming up SAS sasy somehow triggered no it's just it's just a microcosm of the things that frustrate me with the Giants organization as a whole yeah I mean I it's just there's nothing they could do that could make get me trigger for the rest of the season I sound they destroy they destroyed me I soundest
