from Petco park in downtown San Diego inter league baseball on MLB The Show it's the Chicago White Socks and the San Diego Padres joined by my partner Chris Singleton I'm John sh and Chris we've got an opportunity to watch one of the true superstars of the sport Manny Machado leads the team an Ops so he's the guy that looks to Slug and basically make things happen for them offensively just a machine in terms of production at the plate he'll take his walks he'll Barrel up the baseball he ball the gaps he hit the ball over the fence so talk about a guy going good that's him right now and he's a bat that you want to stay away from if you're the pitcher he's racked up over 2,000 strikeouts in his career he's such a competitor out in the mound so fun to watch him work I'm excited for this one swing and a line drive curling foul down the right side the W to kick the pitch and a swinging a Miss there don't expect too many more highs it's a good Sinker ball pitcher and sometimes they can make mistakes trying to pitch Up In the Zone look for him to stay down around the knees to be effective digging in Coulson Montgomery swings and misses that's strike one Montgomery batting second in today's lineup a former first round pick in 2021 one out base is empty just misses with that [Music] one struck him out he says I don't care about draft rounds take a seat well anytime you can punch out the top two guys in the lineup to start an inning be feeling pretty good out there on the mound because when you think of just having a distraction table Setters on the base paths and all of a sudden you're dealing with a number three hitter any distraction cause you to serve up a cookie and instead of it being a solo shot it's a two or three run Homer and another [Applause] ball got him strikes out the side to begin the game what a start back here with my pal singy and out the hill in this one Mike Soka yeah he's definitely had a struggle so far this year as evidenced by that inflated whip but he's going to have to find a way to limit the base runners put his team in a position to win a ball game so we know he's prepared we know this guy's a competitor and we'll watch how he works in this one a one-1 Bart swings through that one he has a tendency to chase out of the zone and that slider that's down that's one of his money pitches to get that swing and Miss stays alive the one two two this guy's a fun guy to watch taking it B he just battles up there he doesn't take a pitch off at all makes it on the pitch out there you can tell they get frustrated with how long it takes to put him away just so sound in his mechanics hits against a firm front side and the hands just continue to carry through the middle of the field now here is H Kim swing and a miss as he chases that one darting out of the Zone ball one nobody out runner at first Soka throw over Bogarts gets back easily and he deals Fly ball to right Fletcher settles under it and he makes the catch and there's one away here's Manny Machado on the ground two ball Gonzalez beats to Second out there out of B two back here in San Diego here's aloy Jimenez pitches in there that's strike one darish multi-time Allstar he features a sinker a slurve a slider oh and a great stop throw to first and they get the out great catlike reflexes right there lays out knocks the ball down and then fires with that rocket arm all the way across the diamond man put this guy in the mou Andrew Vaughn now in there for a strike at the bottom of the zone no score here in the second and a big swing and a miss no ball two stri worm burner into the outfield for a knock so they get a man aboard with a one out single so now the DH spot Gavin sheets that's in for a strike there's the swing in a that was the pitch to hit forcing fast instead of that Sinker ball that makes you hit it on the ground he missed a good one and a swing and a miss and to now here is M right through there for a strike that misses and it's a ball on a strike the runner at first with two gone and another ball swing in a Miss as he was out front that time swing and a highfly ball out there towards left field coming on proar he's there he's got it we head to the bottom of the second now it's Fernando tatis Jr Soka back to work hit in the air center field Robert makes the grab one pitch and one out yeah I'm looking at his body language and he just doesn't seem like things are in sync and the ball's just not coming off his back the way it did earlier in the season on the ground throws the first in time off to a great start he's really cruising out there on the M he's got a chance to get through these first two innings with under 20 pitches That Could set him up to go deep into this game Dr ball right side in time to ball that takes care and we're back on to the third inning and now the veteran catcher Max stassy Off the Mark there one and0 swing and a miss strike one one ball one strike hard hit left side Kim with the throw to first and one away in the top of the third and now the rookie second baseman Jacob Gonzalez fast for a strike top of the third no score comes up empty that's strike two no ball two stri now this is in the air down the line and that drop foul the line and the pitch battling here as he fouls it away he hasn't gotten the result yet but he's got to feel pretty confident three foul balls in a row he's right on his pitcher throw over to Cronin and that quickly two away so two down now and here is Dominic Fletcher that one the other way fires over to First and the white socks go quiet as we go to the last of the third and now the DH Kyle higashioka swing and a miss and he was fooled Soka a former Allstar he features a sinker a slider a for Seer a change up and occasionally uses a cutter the injury forcing them to turn to the bench for a pinch hitter eggy Rosario this is a tough task coming in cold Off the Bench and in the middle of an at bat man you're just never anticipating that and a swing and a miss at the slider in the dur in time to get him one away in the strike out had him out in front which isn't easy to do against a hitter like this known for using the entire field just couldn't sit back long enough on that one jerks in proar the next to hit takes outside misses the zone and now two and0 he's been breaking in recent games and a big reason why getting ahead and counts he've been able to do that consistently and you see the results one down Bas is empty that one fouled off two and [Applause] two struck Him Out Swinging couldn't hit the fast ball at the knees and here's the rookie center fielder Jackson merrow and there's a foul ball two out Bas is empty hit hard base hit so the lineup flips over and now here is Xander Bogart one for one he let off the bottom of the First with a single swing and a miss as he was late that [Applause] time swings and misses and it's nothing in two well you got the hitter already chasing that nasty slider if you're on the M you just want to expand the zone right now get a swing and miss and get through this at back swung on popped up on the infield takes the grab and that's the inning back here at Petco Park and the batter will be the short stop Coulson Montgomery swinging a miss going one you know these white socks as this game goes on have to be more disciplined at the play so many of their outs have come from weak contact on pitches they're chasing outside of the strike zone you can't do much of anything with those locations that's been true again today and on two knocks that one away and we'll do it again and as a pitcher when the hitters are swinging at everything you feel no need to challenge inside the zone you just keep working the corners and expanding that Strike Zone and Beyond and they just keep eating right out of your hand and that one is lifted in the air PS it in for the out and now it's l Robert well struck right field and that one hops the wall makes the turn and heads for second and that's a double I was watching his rounds during batting practice today so impressed with his ability to let the ball travel go back up the middle in the other way sometimes when you step in the boxer in the game you get a little anxious and you get away from that but so far I've seen him stay consistent with his pregame preparation on the ground Kim throws the first take care of JZ for the out good Sinker low in the zone right there and produced exactly what he was looking for ball on the ground nice ground out pa in the box with two gone and takes a look at a called strike and a foul balls and misses it's a strike out one hit and welcome back to the ballart bottom four here's the short stop at the play Hung Kim first pitch and he just misses Kim a former Gold Glove winner 28 years old and he's been on a good run at the plate hitting over 300 in his last 10 games pulls it in on the run and there's one down Machado the batter now as he swings and misses for strike [Applause] one there's a swing and a drive and that's going to roll to the wall he'll throw in second not going to get him he's in there he was all over that one he hit that ball really well the Deep right field right there got a pitch to drive and just stay through it nicely didn't quite have the trajectory to clear the fence but you're always happy with an extra base hit run in scoring position now and a good opportunity to push across the first R of the ball game and it's second they tried to get him to chase on a slider down it away n and that's a base hit Here Comes Machado around third the throws he sa on the board first it's Z big RBI for him right there thaning one into the gap or blasting one over the wall they're on a whole lot of hits that are more satisfying than a nice Line Drive in the center field so that definitely felt good one out runner at second so digging in now for San Diego Luis cusano next offering popped in the air right field Fletcher makes the play rer tags it second the tag gets him and it's a double play to end the inning exciting play and a great throw to third for the double play but man there's just no reason to try to move up to Third right there not great base running to end the inning back here in San Diego all set for the start of the inning and now it's going to be Gavin sheets off the mark there and that's ball [Applause] one and that one fouled off right Ander kick deals Swang and a high fly ball left field and there's one down that's a really nice play ranging back into the outfield for that catch we all know those could be a little tricky especially if the wind swirling around out there makata batting with one down takes the strike in there at the knees and it's 0 and two well on the M very efficient able to produce an Alon it seems like pitch and just about every back swings and misses two away gets talked about a lot but a good high fast in a two strike situation it's just become such a problem for hitters in more recent years but with all of the emphasis by pitchers on developing that spin rate having a good grip on the baseball those high fasts they kind of this one swung on and hit well way back there that'll make it out of here he'll touch them all it's [Applause] 111 they thought he could blow a high fast by him but he was ready for it look at how quickly he jumped on that pitch now a chance for Jacob Gonzalez there's a strike at the knees and it's O and one that's inside that's a really good take right there slider down and in very difficult to get on the same plane and do anything with good eye in that spot two down bases empty but one run across here in game one of this three game set two and that one ripped into right tatis snags it and that is that but we're all tied up thanks to this solo Homer all even at one a piece and we're back now here's Jake Cronin worth Soka back to work strike on the inside you know these padr definitely being aggressive at the plate but I think it's fair to wonder if they're being a little over aggressive and he can't come up with it to First and he just gets it there in time one away so here's the Padre's DH eggy Rosario got it started a little too early strike one so those first pitch numbers tell me they should try to find a way to slow this game down a bit things have been moving just too quickly for them at times no ball all tied up last half of inning number five swing in a Miss struck him out slider got him for strike three here's the switch hitting left fielder jerks in proar ball one no strikes wouldn't chase that time two downman on L and that's a base hit and now Jackson merrow one for one with a single so far pitch misses and that is ball one [Applause] right side Gonzalez the throw to first and that will end the inning top six and the batter now Dominic Fletcher ground ball left side and that's one out as they get the lead off hitter in the six and up next for Chicago Coulson Montgomery on the ground right side and a couple of quick outs he's been going after these guys consistently and as a result he's been able to keep his pitch count low throwing the very well right now stands in here tried to hold back his swing there but went around next offering is in for a strike it really looks like these hitters have been in between with their timing today locked him up and that'll do it the Inn is bottom of the six now it's the second baseman Xander Bogarts and a pitch late with the swing [Applause] there1 that's out to center field Robert moves under it pulls it down and he makes the catch and there's one down now it's the short stop Hung Kim swing and a ball lifted left field and that one ped down down by himz and there's two away now Machado up here left field way back there and then is ranging back pulls it in the warning [Applause] track top of inning number seven here's the left fielder aloy Jimenez that one finds the Zone strike one and a base hit up the middle a lead off single and the goahead run is a board everything came together for him timing on the swing was good able to shoot the ball up the middle didn't Square it up as much as he probably would have liked but that's a good approach paying off and a swing Ms another2 count right hereit just the swings throw it in that's a strike out first pitch doesn't find the Zone well it's been a very impressive outing so far his command has been a big part of it even when he misses he misses outside the strike zone which is exactly what a pitcher wants with the goad run at first here in the top half of inning number seven that one missed next offering is in for a strike and boy that was the pitch 3-1 you want to be really aggressive on the fast and it's ball down low out of the bullpen for the Padres Danel de los Santos well good luck against this guy he's been extremely tough to hit this year his numbers are excellent that misses the zone and one and one well all eyes on the dou play ball in this spot no better way to get out of this in in the air left field down the line and that'll fall for a base hit throw comes in quickly holds that goahead run in third and there're still one away Max stassy comes up to H first pitch and in for a strike swing and a miss chased it out of the zone and he really sells the change up with that arm action and swing a Miss huge strike out there so up next for Chicago Jacob Gonzalez that one down the line and it goes just foul with the goahead run at third here in game one of this three game set swings and on the fast up in the zone for the set for the last half of the seventh now it's the right fielder Fernando tatis Jr that one drilled left field Jimenez going back hits the fence Jimenez hurries it back in and that holds the goahead run at second base now no waiting around right there he was ready to swing it on the first pitch pitcher on here Chris flexon aing more than one hit allowed per inning pitch this season and that's not where you want to be at all so we'll see how he does here and now the catcher comes up to H Luis cusano there you see how he's doing down the stretch with his August and September splits and it gets fired kind of rolled over on this pitch a little bit but he got enough behind through for a knock and we'll take that anytime you can get him to find a hold in the air to left Center and that one pulled down by himz runer tags it second and he makes it up to third with one away two on one out eggy Rosario the next up for the Padres a swing and a miss as he chases way out of the zone [Applause] wouldn't chase that time movement for the white socks in their Bullpen Eric fetty the right-handed Sinker baller he looks to be readying himself Tucson also getting ready and a swinging to miss in the infield at the corners don't be surprised to see them come home first and prevent that run from scoring he fouls it off will do it again I think ultimately you want to tie him up get the ball in on the plate so that he can't get the barrel to it and hit it to the Outfield swinging a miss and now two gone oh tough night at the dish punching out for the third time right there he just hasn't looked very comfortable at the plate a little unsure of his timing right now not picking up the spin and location of these pitches they'll have some adjustments to make and that's into dir [Applause] swing and a miss and that strike two one [Applause] two comes up empty as he chases that one in the dirt in time nicely done they get out of the jaam welcome back and a new arm of the M number 61 start the eight Matt wal and he's coming at you with a knuckle ball to the right side Bogart's with the throw to first and that's one away as the lead off man is out in the e montgom in the box now takes strike one bounced up the middle Barts in plenty of time to first two up two down here in the top of the eight Luis Robert now well there's a lot riding on that at bat right there nice job of the pitcher to Bear Down make the pitch get the ground ball excellent piece of work ground ball up the middle that one sizzling on its way through to the Outfield and that extends the inning multi-hit game for him now and with the lack of results he's been having lately I'm sure he's feeling some relief couldn't get any under but smoke that ball back they take the force out third out and welcome back to the ballpark ready for the bottom of the E and now the center fielder Jackson merrow that's outside and that's ball [Applause] one in there at the knees and here it comes no that's the ball and fouled [Applause] off got him looks like he's picked up right where he left off here's Xander Bogarts out towards right center field Robert moves under it he's got it out number two Hung Kim the next to hit check swing he went too far and it's a strike two down nobody on here the bottom half of the eighth inning swing and a miss and he was fooled I think he was a little excited there saw the fast but even a step ladder to get to that one it's going to have to tighten it back up that's a base hit so a two out Knock keeps the inning [Applause] alive here's Machado one for three swinging a [Applause] bouncer monata toss to First third out B set to Jeremiah on the pitch here this is his fifth appearance of the year that one finds the zone and that is strike one swing and a miss as he was out front the high he pass him that's a strike out so the bull doing a nice job backing up the effort from their starter yeah we've seen some pretty excellent pitching out of this so far I mean they've come in ready to do their job and get outs they've been pretty tough to get to in this one hit the air right field tatis drivs towards it brings it in and there're two outs here is Yan monata maybe caught that one off the end just a little bit couldn't quite Barrel it up enough to really drive [Applause] it that misses and the count is one and one all tied up here at the top of the night swings through that one out in front that time right-handed reliever foul ball still a one and two count the pitch swings through that one it's a strike out offense back here at Petco Park bottom nine stepping in for San Diego Fernando tatis junor first offering misses badley for ball one activity in the pen for the white sock Steven Wilson the closer of the staff is throwing swing a miss and the count one and one trying to keep good speed off the bases swing and a miss going to count one at two he's been able to go inside as well as outside effectively working both sides of the plate in this advat and another ball that one inside almost got [Applause] him in the air center field sizing this one up makes the catch and there's one gone and here's the catcher Luis cusano a swing and a miss and that's strike one no ball one [Applause] strike popped up B after it and there's two away and here's the first baseman Jake Cronin worth fought off foul [Music] uhoh that got him and the potential winning is a looks like he wanted that slider to finish on the inside of the not start on the inside and end up hitting the B looked to me like he just tried to do a little too much with that one your base runner you got stay di in here look in the try your best to get in scoring position headed towards the corner and they hold the winning run at third here as it'll take another two out hit to win this one so two down and now jerkson Prof fall and the first pitch misses for ball one he's got a base open so the pressure to come in and really attack this hit not as great as it would be if the bags are sacked in the air out towards Right Center Fletcher sizes this one up he's got it and that'll end the inning we're in extras here new pitcher on now Steven Co they know that he can get right out but he's in position to face a couple of lefties this inning and one way outg for strike two no ball two stri bit to right ta drifts towards it makes the grab one up one down such a confidence boost for a relever to come into the ball game and get the first hitter he faces just makes everything slow down a little bit and then from there can really settle [Applause] in one down base is empty swings and misses struck him out couldn't hit the fast at the knees Fletcher stands in now and watches strike one there Clips the zone o and two two down nobody on here in the top half of the 10 fights that one away and the count remains o and two on the ground to the left and foul ball two outs got him looking and he didn't like the call back here in San Diego now here is Jackson Merill the right hander back to work bouncer to Second Gonzalez throws the first in time one out the bottom of the 10 back to the top of the lineup Xander Bogarts the next up for the Padre's he late there strike one come and get me fast right there he didn't look ready for the velocity I think it'd be a mistake to throw him anything off speed right here swing in a miss and that's strike two he's been very consistent with his Comm out there on the consistently throwing at the knees pretty impressive when a guy can repeat his delivery like this and a pitch and that's outside it's two and [Applause] two and that one in the air center field he's got it and there's two away now the number two hitter Hung Kim swing and a Tapper that rolls foul two down DOL one swing at a miss and the count one and two one ball two stri the short stop takes a ball two ball two strik headed down the line giving Chase won't get to this one it drops [Applause] foul and another ball swings through that and it's a strike out and a nice inning of they turn things over to the Southall Wy Peralta and they felt it was time to bring up oh and that deflects off his glove and they get the out after the Ricochet good fade and sinking action of that change up got that hit to roll over that one to First takes it to the bag and two away to open the 11 Jimenez in the box now no balls in a strike inside corner that's a St and the count is 0 and two swing and a miss got him to go up the ladder for the K bottom of the inning and now it's Manny Machado in a spot like this are you up there thinking to yourself I'm trying to end the game absolutely it's been a long one you're hungry you're ready to go home I got to call nlds game four here in 20122 at pille Park where the Padre's knocked out their Rivals the LA Dodgers the place was just nuts the entire game terrific fan support this guy's got good power with one swing he can win it for him good eye right there man oh man I don't know how you take that pitch that's as close as it h on the ground out to short in time to B one up one down so with one down it'll bring up Fernando ta Jr into the Outfield base hit and now the winning run is on base next for the Padre's Luis cusano ta runs is low save singy he definitely showed off the wheels there yeah and it turned out to be a bang bang play stat cast gives us the data and that stolen base wasn't possible without that Sprint [Applause] speed oh hit face hit Here Comes tatis Around third throw is offline this one's over and the Padres walk it off in the 11 you know you had to feel the pressure winning run on second base found a way to make solid contact and the winning run comes across the score everyone going crazy exciting finish to this game today and your final score here today 2-1 a one-run Extra Inning win for
