feel like we're we're almost all the way home and we're going to be it down on this very show because we never stop talking about FCS college football I want to actually let's let's let's uh lean in I guess uh introduce ourselves but there's definitely some some good news to to to talk about um if you're wondering who the hell you're listening to that's fair my name is Kobe swing at D to B's Dad aka pick d d That's not a pick this is a pick he was raised in the land down under where a man thinks on his feet speaks with his fists and lives by his wits when dunde happened he was a superstar I'm probably drinking too much and celebrating too much and not sleeping would have killed a normal man but now that's gone medical advice I got from that was was like being hit by lightning pretend it Waters all right if it's not a goddamn swimming pool or or the actual Ocean or Gulf of Mexico I'm not going in questionable Waters I remember I was completely hung over on some Florida Highway and my brother stopped we had like five people in a car and my my brother stopped at uh like I don't know some fast food restaurant and on the other side of the freeway or the other side of the highway was the uh was a Subway and I was like ah I think I'm going to have Subway and me and a buddy go to have Subway we got like over like there was two lanes each way right we get over the first two lanes and there's a big ass median and then I'm like I I go down to the median I see it's like somewhat swampy Waters and I go yeah okay I guess I'm having [ __ ] Popeyes or whatever the [ __ ] is I'm not hopping in that water I don't know what's in that [ __ ] water all right um I care that it if it only goes Sho deep I don't I won't walk my dog near a puddle man that's what I'm saying I don't [ __ ] around with that uh but hey Disneyland had to pay a bunch of guy you know family bunch of money if I was that judge I'd be like no no how about you do a thing called parenting all right don't let your your kid in suspicious Waters all right um but anyway I don't know I I I I I I hope that's not a problem still uh sort of the world's always kind of cooler when it's a little more dangerous um but uh anyway uh dude uh we got to talk about this I know we're this is Missouri Valley but it's like the gods have been listening to us because the national championship the FCS national football championship has been moved to Monday on ESPN oh two years in a row of competing on a day with the NFL stupid uh prior to that they were doing Saturdays compete competing with the NFL stupid and we've said for a while if you put this on a Monday and Lead this thing up well now I guess with the 12 team playoff there's no National Championship when that that Monday but still I like it having its own night I think it's fantastic news for the sport and I think the sport can only grow uh with this news your your your take on uh this news yeah man I mean we talked about it when the last game between Montana and South Dakota State happened I mean it only makes sense you can't go against the NFL the smarter Sports have learned it you know the NBA the NHL they try to shy away a little bit particularly I've always said the NHL does a fantastic job of reading the room I see we got a Canada listener in the chat you guys get it don't compete with the Americans in the NFL dud I was looking I was looking at CFL week one schedule it's like And subscribe to the CFL gambling podcast but it's like Thursday night they they only have nine teams so you can only do four games each week Thursday night Friday night Saturday night Sunday night and then guess what the CFL season goes from June until November when football season hits they move all that [ __ ] to around you know but like all the way until August it's pretty much set up like that they really get it there as far as American television you know execs they all need to be fed to the [ __ ] alligators um so uh here we are here we are and I'm excited because I I our job was to rank the uh 11 Missouri Valley schedules which one we think are the hardest which ones we think are the easiest and I was a bit surprised by this teams would end up a little easier and it's not the way that I coming into it I thought it was going to be a little easier uh and I'll get into it as we go but I was a bit surprised and I think there's a lot of opportunity I think if you're fans of anyone not named North Dakota State South Dakota State uh there is a lot of opportunity and I'll just get right into this but before I do that I how' you how you like like the exercise by the way oh I love diing into strength of schedule especially when uh I mean I'm sure you know you've been doing it for years I've been listening to you do it and you know that uh our strength of schedule is always going to be a little different than what the national media puts out you know you see every year Alabama's in the top 10 strength the schedule and you're like how the hell they play in FCS you know there's no clear conflict of interest there and we saw it with March Madness March Madness like you're like what you know they they just leave seat and Hall out SE Hall wins the NIT Sean Hall had a win against Yukon who won the National Championship but you know you can see the corruption is my point and uh with the corruption see the Big East they're not they don't have football schools I know Yukon does but Sean Hall kraton Xavier there's no power in that room so they [ __ ] over the Big East they [ __ ] over the Big East be and that's not it's not uh an accident in my opinion um but anyway uh yeah let's hop into this yeah I remember Stanford a couple years ago played 12 power fives in the FBS yeah this this year it's going to be the Gators yeah yeah the G but but the Gators are in the SEC so they'll get the the the the treatment but Stanford played 12 power fives which I've never seen ever before in my years of covering this and they weren't in the top 10 hardest schedules I was like what in the [ __ ] are they talking about here like you got throwing in Alabama with the game against mcne and a game against Western Kentucky and you're like look I understand LSU is a hard game but playing 12 power fives is much [ __ ] harder um but uh anyway let's get into it uh the first school as long as my alphabet is um correct which is never correct um let's take a look at actually I think it would be I think it would be Indiana State right um no it would be Illinois State um and uh look the Red Birds look at these you're a fan of the Red Birds there this is what I mean I think there's opportunity this year now you look at the what Brock spack has been doing there he's been at Illinois State since 2009 and he he hasn't I mean two winning seasons in a row but just six and five I was doing a deep dive on their schedule uh last season man they had some opportunities a lot of close losses like just a lot of close losses you look back a onepoint loss to North Dakota at North Dakota on on November 18th but three-point loss of Northern Iowa three-point loss to your uh Youngstown State Penguins uh one point loss to Eastern Illinois their only one game they got their ass whooped by and that was by South Dakota state understandable and that was only a 19point loss I mean I I think they're close you look at the schedule this year I had it ranked second easiest I okay the noncon is at Iowa week one at North Alabama week two home to Western Illinois and home to Eastern Illinois that's the nonon what I like about this schedule in general though is a you're getting Iowa breaking in a new offense all right look I don't you're going to lose in Iowa City most likely but at least Iowa like what South Dakota State lost like what it was like six seven to three a year couple years ago Iowa offense has been such dog [ __ ] you might actually if you block a punt or something you might actually find yourself in the game in the fourth quarter um and but I I think that's an outright loss but the other three I think are 100% winable and then you don't have South Dakota State on the schedule and to me you're best opponents North Dakota State in conference I'm talking about your best opponents in conference North Dakota State Youngtown state they're they're they're in Normal Illinois you know what I mean like yes you got to go to carbon Dale to take on the Salukis yes you got to go to Cedar Falls to take on Northern Iowa but I kind of love this schedule and I think like you want to talk about a sleeper team to make the FCS playoffs this year now obviously we got to go through the roster but I'm just saying you look at how many close losses six and five they were very close to being 10 and one and then you throw this scheduled out there now I'm not saying they're going to go 10 and one again or not again but for the first time here in a while but I just think it's a favorable schedule where did you have this one ranked and your thoughts on the red birds of Illinois state so yeah I had a Illinois state about middle of the pack actually uh number six so one of the things I definitely looked at and it's something you taught me uh the backtack road spot so Illinois state does have two now normally I would kind of look at the Iowa and North Alabama one and I wouldn't even really count the Iowa one because I'm gonna say hey there starters they're going to be out at halftime but we all know how Iowa plays that's probably going to be a one- score game and they're going to be fighting there might get their heartbroken North Alabama deerman he's bringing that team up a little bit so that could that is a tricky game that is a tricky game that is I I almost think North Alabama or North Alabama's live in that I think they play week zero too so that'd be week three yeah then Western Illinois you know that's an easy one but Eastern Illinois showed some fight last year so um I do like that you don't have South Dakota State on this schedule I do love that I do like the buy before YSU and getting them at home um but you know I think there's some tough spots with the two back-to-backs and I think it's uh it's going to come down to a lot of how they start the season in that non-conference because they could go three and one or they could go go two and two so it's kind of tight there I will say this though at least you're getting the second end of the back-to-backs I understand your point back Tob backs is they mean something but at least it's at North Alabama who won like what three four games last year and then at Indiana State who won one the second end of them aren't as treacherous and to me your Road schedule specifically in conference okay Carbondale is hard to win but at Murray I like at Cedar FS I think could be winnable and then uh at the uni Dome and then at Indiana State I mean I I think if you're an Illinois State fan you're saying this has got to be the year we don't get South Dakota State North Dakota State's breaking in a brand new coach and you're getting them your first [ __ ] conference game what better time to be getting North Dakota State that's another thing is you know I understand that's still week five but it's the earliest you can play them within conference and I think that breaks nice for you it breaks a little nice for you um it's going to be fascinating to see how the Red Birds do there um let's jump over and talk about this schedule I had as the easiest I'm curious where you got this one the Indiana State sycamores we need to talk about I mean look I love the FCS so much Curt mallerie what I understand his dad as a coaching Legend all right I like if you're an Indiana State figure see what they just did in basketball they went to the NIT Championship should have been in the NCA tournament Kurt mallerie played you know back in the day at Michigan was Shen Beckler um I know he was Phil steel coach of the year in 2019 but damn it he's he's three and 19 in his past two seasons three and 19 and it ain't going to get much easier than this right here all right it ain't going to get much easier than this schedule in my opinion so there's no South Dakota State there's no North Dakota State I think this schedule's incredible considering that I also think you know Perdue they're going to lose that game it's a rivalry game they always lose to Purdue but I feel like Purdue is not great so I mean like if they do get up now they were so bad last year I can't say that optimistically hey if they do get up and beat Purdue they're going to lose to Purdue I actually think they're probably goingon to lose the next game at Eastern Illinois but then they're home to Dayton then they get a byee and then they're home to an awful Houston Christian team that's breaking in a brand new head coach I mean actually they're getting and Dayton's breaking in a brand so they're getting I think dude let them just beat Eastern Illinois let them pull that upset and Charleston and three and one out the gate and then you go into this this conference schedule now the only thing is I'd prefer the byee not be week four it'd be better if it was like week seven or eight but the conference schedule is manageable well like I said you don't get the two juggernauts North Dakota State and South Dakota state so your road trips are at Youngstown and none of them are back toback at Missouri State at South Dakota at Northern Iowa sign me up for that every year in the valley the home games are like I almost think I get it they're one and 10 last year but like they should be able to beat these teams North Dakota St North Dakota I'm sorry not North Dakota State North Dakota the fighting Hawks they lost Tommy Schuster to Michigan State they get them at home they get Murray State at home they're breaking in a brand new head coach uh they get Southern Illinois at home I know Southern Illinois is ahead of them as a program and they get Illinois State at home but like this schedule if it ain't I'm not even saying you got to like win the but damn it I seven and five eight and four is [ __ ] there for you if you just I mean I almost think they should have hired a new coach this schedule's brilliant where'd you have this ranked yeah so uh I had it actually 10 right there right where you had it as well I mean you got to look at it you have to love not playing north of South Dakota State I mean that's that's right off the bat you got to be jumping out of your shoes for that the nonon like you were saying super manageable Eastern Illinois you know looking better last year but still not quite there as a program as far as you know being a Powerhouse here plus they play close games Dayton terrible season last year Houston Christian both of those teams uh new coaches struggled last year so uh yeah I think this is a very navigatable schedule you steal a couple of those games at home uh and you might be talking now here's something too that I like to look for is last year I know I did and I think you did too kind of had this team as a potential like sleeper in this conference I ain't [ __ ] on Indi last year by the way shout out to uh Kevin from FCS Nation radio folks if you haven't checked out FCS Nation radio Uh Kevin and and stone do such a great job and big fans of them over the years um Andy's hyping up north Alabama he's a deerman guy so oh yeah I like I like that Alabama was so good D2 I want them to be nasty but let's talk about Indiana State here man like this guy you want to talk about a Long Leash okay 2017 0 and 11 2018 7-4 2019 5-7 then they they don't play the co Year all right at all even the spring they don't play 21 5- six 22 2- n 23 1 and 10 this guy's got one winning season he's got photographs of somebody what the [ __ ] going on well he got that National Championship in 2020 they claimed it they had to right come on got that Yukon Old Dominion love I mean if it ain't this year all right I'm just going to go ahead and say whoever their athletic director is give give me a phone call 1800 pck d d all right because he's 20 and 47 as a head coach this is the year man you don't have to win the valley I'm just saying this is the year the schedule breaks nice for you all right the schedule breaks nice for you give me seven wins give me something to be optimistic about there and ter ho uh I mean I know we're gonna we're going to do our previews in July when we go through every team but you get gifted this type of schedule you gotta win some games man all right like what what considering you have that many losses what would be like what gets them fired you go six you go you go six and five you gotta be fired right I think so with this schedule be fire right I love the FCS though because you know it's like when I was growing up with the FB yes the coaches could stay around a little longer I appreciate the Long Leash but damn this one's a long one um yeah I had this says the easiest in the valley I really think it's the easiest schedule in the valley but uh anyway I know you had it at 10th let's continue on this journey let's talk about the Missouri State Bears you might remember uh a few years ago uh they had Road Rash face uh AKA uh Bobby patrino as as football coach head football coach and I believe he had his son as the office coordinator um but uh he moved on and oh actually he moved on like five times in 12 months he was he was at UNLV for two weeks uh might might have caught an STD then he jumped out to uh College Station God knows what happened in College Station will never find out because shit's a cult and it's all deep you never know unless you're wearing overalls you know you're not going to know and now he's in arkans he's back to the scene of the crime but uh Ryan beard is is the head coach he was with Bobby patrino I think he was the DC and safeties coach if memory serves be correct tough first season there in Springfield uh just four and seven and really I mean I guess they kind of got their ass whooped in some I I guess they could have had a decent season like Illinois state lose by one I think the UT Martin game was close too but the other ones they really got their ass whooped uh in a in a good amount of games here now granted that's a tough schedule man like the teams that beat their ass South Dakota State North Dakota State you know Youngtown okay Saluki beat him by 13 they also played at Kansas with Lance Li Poole we know what he could do so I mean that is a tough schedule from a year ago the problem is is it does not break well for you too much this year uh hello Missoula uh playing in Missoula to start the season we we mentioned uh Cliff to mcdal they got the big ma they got the we got the big Mick he's gone um that's still a loss you're not just going to go into Montana and win and then I love the week two matchup just because I feel like it it's winnable but you're going to lose to Ball State but I think it's winnable I think it's winnable week three home to Lindenwood penitentiary uh love in state back that's what college football is let's not ever forget that love a uh game against uh instate Fox and then uh week four they head back to Martin or they take on UT Martin again I know last season was a home game but I think they're probably going to be one and three in the noncon three Road games out of four in the noncon is tough um but maybe they clip Ball State I don't think they're beating Montana or Martin though you no I got them going one and three to start the season man that that's a that's a tough noncon right there uh this I don't know if you said where you had him yet this is my number one toughest schedule so okay I had him my third that bottom left that little circle I got my rankings sitting there everything got everything Graphics got directions to the [ __ ] Walmart too all right flip it over to the backside um uh in conference and that's another thing is they they get the uh so at Montana at Ball State home to Lindenwood at UT Martin and then week five conference play starts and you get a home game against Youngstown State that's that's not you'd rather get somebody else in my opinion but uh then you get a byee then you head to normal to take on Illinois State then you're home to Indiana State then you're at Northern Iowa and then Here Comes somewhat of The Gauntlet home to Southern Illinois at Murray State okay Murray's not great but on the second end of the back-to-back away you head to the Fargo D to take on North Dakota State and then you end the season with with the jack rabbits of South Dakota State I mean I out the gate I do think they're going to be dogs and what one two three four uh five six seven eight games I would say for sure they're going to be dogs in maybe even nine if you talk me into that game in Normal um tough tough times I feel like if you're a uh if you're a bear fan there maybe Ryan beard can get it going you know they they still have patrino by the way Nick patrino still offensive coordinator there um I don't know I'm not optimistic you had it number one as the toughest schedule talk to me more about why you did I did man you got two back-to-back Road spots sitting there on this schedule we talked about the SLO to open it but then like you said you got that Murray State could get a little trappy before not Dakota state but I think by that point honestly they might be so far out of it they they aren't looking ahead to North Dakota State but you can't love looking at your schedule and seeing North and South Dakota State back to back yeah in a row that's that's brutal man so you start the season off rough it's always hard to bounce back from a tough start and then you're G to get your ass kicked the last two games and and you went through the whole Gauntlet there that stretch at the end it it's brutal man one of the games they're favorite in is what like Lindenwood Indiana State Maybe yeah and M Murray right on the road hopefully you know who knows at that point yeah they're going to get [ __ ] up this year I'm sorry bear fans um I know they have aspirations to be FBS focus on the FCS first focus on the [ __ ] FCS all right uh yeah I had it as third hardest so yeah I like this so we have not seen eye to eye on any of the first three schools that we've mentioned let's jump on over and talk about the Mery State racers you know uh bod Foster is friend of the program legendary Virginia Tech defensive coordinator him and you know he was the defense coordinator for Frank Beamer and he was the highest paid coordinator for a long time at Virginia Tech he is a Murray State grad and I know talking to him we've had him on our show uh over the years a couple times but it's a great guy and uh I know though he was disappointed with what's going on there with they they got to get back to winning football games at Murray State now they did go out and hire what Jody Wright um this off season as remember they weren't in the valley they haven't been in the valley that long um but a their name the racers and that logo has been [ __ ] amazing for a long [ __ ] time all right uh youtube.com theol experience but the racers um hey I had this as a hard schedule mainly the two SEC opponents that we have scattered through here at Missouri week one we know Missouri uh Luther Burton and their nil collectives getting all this Talent they added uh Nate Noel the running back from appalachin State uh now week two they are home to Butler but hey these Butler Bulldogs are pesky Bunch watch out they Butler could get you especially after a beat down from an SEC school I guess you kind of got to like Butler on the schedule and then you got to like Mississippi Valley State who's you know Jerry Rice graduated in in 85 and I feel like they they haven't been the same since um so getting the Delta devil is my favorite name one of my favorite names out there uh in Murray Kentucky week three is beautiful I think if you're a racer fan but then you get a bu week so you're gonna be and and you still have one other noncon game that's going to be scattered later in week 12 but uh you get a week four by- we which I still would rather have like a week eight week seven week nine by- we then they head to Grand Forks North Dakota which I suspect they'll lose that game uh then they're home to the coyotes of South Dakota okay I mean possible win there then you head to Terry hot to take on Indiana State I guess you got to say possible win based on last season then they home to Illinois State and you're saying okay well I think Illinois state will beat them but I'm like you're saying Kobe I thought you said this was a hard schedule all they had was at Missouri at North Dakota they'll be in those other games well Here Comes Here Comes the Pain all right uh because home to North Dakota State followed by at South Dakota State there in Brookings at the Dyke house then uh week 11 home to Missouri State now that Missouri State game is probably winnable but after you play both the dtas your team might be a little checked out then oh you have at Kentucky taking on Mark stops' bunch in inton another sec foe week 12 followed by a week 13 at Southern Illinois to me I had this as the second hardest schedule just because I feel like uh they're they're just having two SEC schools as uh nonon and then you you are uh getting all those teams in a row like getting s Illinois on the back toback away getting North Dakota State but then South Dakota State on the second I know that's not a back toback away but I'm saying it's still you're playing the two best schools backtack weeks and those schools are like if you've watched them over the years maybe you're just getting into FCS they're gonna beat the [ __ ] out of you on the line of scrimmage so that's why I think Missouri State's going to win that game week 11 because they're gonna walk into a a line of scrimmage that Murray or that Murray has that has just been getting their ass whooped the previous two weeks so look I want the racers to be good I love their program it ain't going to be this year your thoughts your thoughts Mike yeah man this one's this one's tough for a like a pro like you said a program that's trying to build up I mean uh four Dakota schools they play all four of the Dakota schools South north and then both States that's brutal right there like you said the Dakota schools like we talked about with the team a couple ones ago I don't even remember it right now but yeah they play him back toback that's a brutal stretch two FBS teams I mean that's that's brutal of course the SEC dipping in they're uh giv Murray State here the uh SEC indoctrination kind of like New Mexico state gets they just let him join the conference and everybody plays them apparently so that's cool I mean the reason I had it at four and not a little higher is because I do think they do have uh manageable couple other games Butler is they were feisty last year but I still would give the edge to Murray State I mean you got to give the edge to Murray State but at the same time after an ass whooping to M Missouri you never know but fair point continue making your point sorry and Mississippi Valley I mean that might as well be a D2 school I mean they got beat by a D2 school last year uh fairly handily so um that's definitely that should be a win right there and I I would really like to see that Indiana State game be at home for Murray State that's another kind of gut punch right there following up the South Dakota game so uh yeah this is a tough schedule man I I mean I did didn't go quite up to the top just cuz Butler and Mississippi Valley State the noncon a little soft outside of the two FBS schools which I mean you can't even really hold that against them when they lose them so uh it's interesting their their conference schedule is rough yeah yeah I I want them to be good again like I feel like I want them to be good again um but uh yeah don't I have a quote I feel like I have a quote and I know we're not Harbaugh's not walking through that door uh week five they're home to Murray State see here's the thing you get four of your first five games at home what's not to like about that then you go to North you go to Fargo North Dakota to the you know the Fargo Dome you're going to get your ass whoop by North Dakota State but at least like that's in state you know what I mean like that's not like rigorous travel then you get a bye we and then uh and then this this is you're home to Northern Iowa you're at Youngstown State and this a back toback away here after Youngstown State you get Indiana State depending on how Indiana state is this year but obviously with this news of the offensive line and obviously Tommy Schuster gone they might be in some real [ __ ] trouble because after that they are home to South Dakota State and then home to the coyotes and then they head to normal to to end off the season uh to take on them red birds uh where' you have this ranked uh yeah so I had this at number five kind of you know towards the upper half of the tougher schedules it's it's close for me uh they're they're right in the middle where I think they need to be I mean like you said Iowa State Montana they're starting out 0 and2 and then you got a chippy I the State team coming I kind of thought they could beat Idaho state but now you get you get you lose your whole line I'm like no I think Cody Hawkin get that done anyway continue on it seems like uh two teams kind of going in different directions you know as far as programs right now Idaho State I mean I like you I was very impressed with what Cody Hawkins did last year San Diego's kind of a wild card for me this year uh like traditionally a good program last year not so much no [ __ ] Pioneer League team is gonna beat a valley team right I mean that just does that shouldn't happen yeah there history there man come on but I would give them the edge I think they're going to win that one most likely um State you love getting that at home but you got your North Dakota State you got South Dakota State you got South Dakota uh It's a Grind and what I really don't like is Indiana State like you're were talking about that's one of those should be winnable games they should be favored in that game but it's the second leg of a backtack and it's sandwiched right between Youngstown State and South Dakota state so if this team is fighting in the big picture of the conference that's a tough Sandwich Spot to have to play a team like Indiana state that they should be favored against so uh I think this is a decently tough schedule for a team that's adjusting to uh a lot of new faces yeah and by the way like I know Kevin helped us out with that uh that news on the on the portal but you know we did a couple portal episodes earlier uh in the off season this is obviously going to going to change we're gonna have to do we're G have to do a lot more portal episodes uh college football in 2024 what the [ __ ] I mean um but Fargo home uh Tennessee State I know they uh lost a player uh to a car accident this week so condolences and love there uh week three though I'm fascinated by this week three matchup East Tennessee State now I don't know if you had this I where where did you have this by the way ranked as far as schedule I had this uh actually looks like we're the same I had this at number nine well this is an interesting one because you know I'm a big fan of Trey lamb coming over from Gardner web and he brought over like the whole [ __ ] team everybody yeah and I don't know that they're ready for that smoke of North Dakota state yet but damn it I really want to watch like if you were telling me my favorite noncon games against e FCS against FCS because obviously I love watching you know the chance of them beating an FBS team I think this one it's in Johnson City this one would be fascinating to me I only wish it was next year because I like how fast can lamb get this thing going it's three weeks in I don't expect him to win the game but I'm I'm fascinated by the matchup and uh and then week four home to talson out of the ca now uh talson you know I just mentioned I'm a former uh Colorado Colorado Buffalo fan well uh Pete chinnick was was a Colorado Buffalo back when I first started watching college football in the late 80s uh I think he's doing a decent job with talson I know they brought in the uh the former Western Carolina quarterback Carlos Davis that was at UMass last year it be interesting to see the Tigers but honestly they should be three- one 4-0 I mean is it that farfetched to say they beat Colorado no I'd be I'd be uh less surprised if they were four they were two or two I'll tell that's what I'm saying like I don't think it's wonder if that spread's going to be um then conference play conference player at Illinois State to open things up week five then home to North Dakota uh then you head to Carbondale which I feel like the Saluki always kind of give them a little bit more than they bargain for and I like I think if you're a Southern Illinois fan you love getting them the week before the Dakota marker game against South Dakota State obviously I love regionality uh and and that rivalry is one of my favorites um it's just great for for college football in my opinion like the fact they even like yeah it it there's the brawl of the wild there's a couple other ones I love but it's right there as far as games I Circle each and every year uh then uh they head to Murray Kentucky to take on the racers of Murray State week 10 they're home to Northern Iowa uh week 11 they get a buy and then week 12 home to Missouri State and then uh week 13 at South Dakota in Vermillion there I mean I had it ranked ninth because I kind of think other than that South Dakota State game which it's in Fargo so I all think I mean they could win that game I mean I would favor South Dakota State still because they have their number lately but isn't every game [ __ ] winnable I know Colorado you maybe say Colorado in South Dakota state but isn't every game winnable I think so and I I think one of the things you got to really key in for one you get that uh that SEC treatment they got no back-to-back Road spots so you got to love that um a lot of the games I mean North Dakota we just kind of talked about how they might not be as good but you get North Dakota at home you get South Dakota State at home you get Northern Iowa at home so you get a lot of those tougher teams in the Missouri Valley Conference you get them at home you gotta love that uh to me I look at this in the trickiest spot I see I mean South Dakota State obviously that's going to be a tough game for them I would favor South Dakota state but that's a rivalry game a tough game that's that's that's a tough spot man that's anybody's game right there so the tricky trickiest spot I see is that Salukis game right before that's a tough spot oh boy I can I could see uh my boy Stone leano it's messaging me or texting me saying what don't let the dogs get hot week seven all right uh no that's that's a fair point that's a fair point man and uh uh shout out to Kevin also who says let's meet up for the the marker game we should I mean may maybe we can make that into turn that into fruition the hardest thing is going to be with uh I have a newborn child uh but I'm picking and choosing my uh my my battles I know Kevin I know you're friends with my boy college football campus T AKA Michael Barker uh so that would be great to get everyone together um I don't know I think that that Circle that southern Illinois game man I do think that is the sneaky sneaky spot but the Bison I think are gonna have a phenomenal season yet again um I know people keep saying Patty C Patty C you played at J mu he he's always like North Dakota State should should be in the FBS they should have jumped up to the FBS already like like they did I I how do you feel about that I'm kind of on I kind of like both sides of this I kind of like them in the FCS as like [ __ ] Blue Blood you know what I mean like your Alabama you know them in South Dakota state is like you're just you know you're gonna get [ __ ] up when you play them I like them there as these pillars of success in a way you so like four or five years ago I'd have been with Patty C on that and i' have said yeah jump up to the FBS but what's going on in the FBS right now no [ __ ] that FCS is true football plus you know if they would have even five years ago if they would have jumped up you know what's the best case scenario is they become a Boise State where nobody will schedule them that's worth anything so they get overlooked for the college football Invitational every single year so you got a good thing going in the FCS FCS is going in the right direction nowadays no chance I stay right where I'm at we got our national championship figured out it's [ __ ] fantastic we got it on a Monday night about damn time I know I know Kevin was happy about that um uh Timothy Green also saying stay where they're at see that's the the question see my only thing is this and I know I'm getting sidetracked here but I like one of my biggest problems with the FCS is how stupid they are as far as scheduling like you do want to get access to your University right you want more people I I think I've told you about this I was at a it was in Culver City California at a [ __ ] Diner and someone was talking about Boise State that completely were not football people they're that's the school with the blue Turf they pull the up like to me and and uh it was a woman telling a guy like that's score the blue Turf right and the guy's like yeah I think I think they have a blue Turf they play all these week night games I think that [ __ ] right there I I heard that I was sitting in the booth right next to them I didn't even talk to them but I just heard that and I go that's Boise being smart you know they always captured those Thursday night games I feel like and then obviously the blue Turf which I think is [ __ ] ridiculous but I I think it makes sense it you know they they have rules against this now I think the NFL even has a Boise rule written into their policy about uh having your Stadium grass a certain color but I I I can't help but think the FCS should play more weeknight games if that means you go to the USA Network or whatever I just don't I I think playing all your games at once for the most part even though historically the tradition of college football is that I think it's shortsighted I think it's shortsighted I think it needs if you want to create more value and more eyes and create your own [ __ ] as far as more success within the FCS you got to start playing some more [ __ ] be creative all right play the late night window on on ESPN I mean there's now that now that call Stanford in the ACC like I'm very curious about this West Coast window you know what I mean with all the with because they're gonna have to all these USC is gonna be playing at Minnesota playing at ruter some weeks can't can't wait to turn tune into those games well yeah I catch the sarcasm but um you know you know what the other thing about that is though is is you know obviously we're here on SGP what's what's sports like what's really driving Sports what completely drives the NFL gambling if you put these games on the midweek you get what you get with uh you know uh some of the DFS uh I don't know if I could say their name but you can right now right now we're not sponsored by one of those big corporations normally normally right after the Masters they're like oh here's no money for you guys uh but that's okay um we can say that you DraftKings like is something where where you know it helps The Fan Experience now I understand there's it's a two-way street the more people that check out your stuff the more uh you know it could get a little tricky but um you flow you know where you have a better chance of catching you know what I mean like you got a better chance to catch a police academy 12 uh on on local you know on TV than than catching a game on Flow gotten stale lately I mean other than 2019 when he won 10 games he hasn't had a 10- win season other than that since 2011 and three straight six- win seasons including a the spring season there were three and four in 2020 it is interesting I mean it's interesting to think that this guy who's been such a great coach for a long [ __ ] time played at Northern Iowa so I don't know he probably he has a Long Leash as he should he's an Alum but I had this as the hardest schedule because these road trips are ridiculous um uh where did you have this Rank by the way I just got to start off like that because this has to be at least in your top three right number two yep okay okay uh now I have a split on this because you have other schools playing non-con games against two SEC teams and then you know maybe even a Montana or something in there this one it's like Valpo week one Valpo sucks all right the they're a beacon of [ __ ] and may the the the Quakers uh figure some things out like their name uh week two they're taking on the our thies of St Thomas in St Paul but I still think they're they're way ahead of St Thomas as much as I love the tomies but the problem is this the mileage you're putting on in a minute but at week three you head to uh Lincoln Memorial Stadium there great St I've been to that Stadium great Stadium take on Matt rule Nebraska you're going to get you're probably going to get [ __ ] up there but I mean Nebraska's kind of this Enigma starting a the top recruit the nation Dylan riola um I would assume they're two in one but then you go all the way week three three straight three straight road games it's a hard to get towai it's not Paradise all it's not Paradise all the time and it's not I actually buy into I know Nick rolovich is a friend of our show he's been on the show a bunch of times but Timmy Chang I kind of been impressed with what he's been doing now you can look at his record and say oh my God he's not good no when you consider what he walked into was was like a [ __ ] Mutiny it really was like yeah the uh yeah the coach's son oh Todd Graham's son transfer out it was like his own son said I'm done with this [ __ ] um it was just a very like they were talking about potentially ending the athletic program like their football program not their athletic department but um I think Timmy Chang has done a great job considering what he's had to work with and I think they're they're gonna have their best year yet this year so I do think they're going to be two and two in the noncon but the mileage you put on I understand you come back and you got a buy week which you have to do after you play at Hawaii but then to draw South Dakota state after that not fun to me but then you do have two winnable Road games even though they're back toback away at South Dakota and at North Dakota and obviously at North Dakota got much more winnable today so maybe I would move this based on that uh then they're home to Missouri State week nine week 10 they go to the Fargo D the take North Dakota State week 11 home to Illinois State week 12 at the ice box Tak it on Youngstown State and then week 13 home to Indiana State I mean I guess today got it I don't know that I would have it the hardest in a way because the north I feared that North Dakota Game was like un like they're they're going to lose that game that's was a 50-50 game that I thought was goingon to favor North Dakota I think now I favor them so maybe maybe it's not the hardest your thoughts uh I mean you know the reason had it it two was you know like you I thought uh two of the non-con games are definitely winable I think they are Miles Ahead of St Thomas and valo those are two fairly easy wins to me the Nebraska and and the Tommy lost their star running back to Western Illinois too so uh anyway continue yeah yes yeah Western Illinois making a lot of noise this offseason I like it um and the Hawaii game just like you I I think that team's on the uptick so that's a tough spot there and then you look at they get four uh four Dakota schools South Dakota North Dakota North Dakota State South Dakota State four of five weeks in a row there I mean even with North Dakota kind of being on maybe a downslide here it's still the second leg of a back toback after what's just a brutal brutal uh stretch to start the season so uh the byee kind of ineffective I mean I know you know theoretically that's where you want it you want it uh after that long road trip and you want it right before you play a team like South Dakota State at home that sounds great but I think that game's a loss no matter what so maybe that bye could have been a little more useful in in between South Dakota and North Dakota you know so uh this is a tough schedule man and towards the end of the season then you're on the road against Youngstown State obviously another another tough game against the Penguins um you're Penguins your penguin my damn Penguins yeah I I expected a lot more of this team last year this year I'm coming in uh a little cautious I think the schedule is very tough and I think they got a lot to prove they they let me down a little bit last year I thought I thought they had something going maybe this is the Year may you know sometimes Patty C loves this thing he loves the year after the year you know what I mean like he he thinks gut check the year after the year is when you want to catch them um or or I'm sorry play them essentially I could see that with uh Indiana State this year maybe you know surprising some people with that week schedule this schedule though I don't see it for Northern Iowa here yeah I think it's tough very tough there especially they're a little Dome team they got week 12 had Youngstown that's a loss that's a [ __ ] loss um but I mean I guess the other ones they South Dakota there are to to be fair they do get three other Dome away games so I mean I guess I always thought I was talking about this stat before like Syracuse is one where you look at the history of their program and I was talking about this uh on on our tce feed today if you go check it out or actually I know it's we're talking about an FBS school but Syracuse was such a historic program in college football uh pre the Dome they took away their advantage in my opinion Syracuse won more than 60% of their games for over a hundred years right and then they left for the Carrier Dome in 1980 and they've won just 51% of their game since then I think that [ __ ] really matters to me like you but in this one in this particular moment with you and I getting three away games out of four in conference as Dome stadiums I think might actually help them in this instance um being that I don't know that it really is that much of a HomeField Advantage when you normally have to to me I fear the Dome team that has to go too cold weather you know what I mean um because they're not they're not used to it but anyway uh let's move along talk about these South Dakota Coyotes you know uh I'm a big fan of the logo I I don't know if you find it I maybe it's just there's not enough Coyotes out there I always I'm kind of taken back by the mascots um I always feel like how is there so many wild cats right how is there so many tigers there's a lot of goddamn name animals out there you could be that's why the FCS has that over the FBS but surprisingly coyotes is rare I know the the recent hockey team like the past 30 years but I'm saying like South Dakota the coyotes we've been the coyotes for a little bit here um I can appreciate that and you know what else I can appreciate I can appreciate uh good old Bob neelsen because he still rocks the shirt and tie which is my favorite [ __ ] thing the NFL outlawed this because they're soulless Mike Nolan who is the Michigan Panthers head coach in the UFL subscribed to the UFL gambling podcast which I also [ __ ] host he wore a shirt and tie as the Niners head coach in the early or in the uh mid 2000s and after that the NFL implemented a rule where you cannot do that anymore I can't tell you how much that bothers me I don't like Corporate America sticking their hand in your [ __ ] face part of being a football player to me or a football coach should be you should be able to wear whatever the [ __ ] you want to wear if you're bum Phillips with a goddamn cowboy hat and a [ __ ] belt buckle that you could see from [ __ ] Mars and some cowboy boots you should have the freedom to do that as long as you're winning some [ __ ] games so when I see a throwback like Bob neelen I appreciate that [ __ ] and uh shout out to South Dakota I'll be honest I'm hoping I'm hoping they have a strong season I had it as fifth toughest and a lot of it is because well the noncon on Thursday night they catch northern state I can appreciate that game on the schedule Believe It or Not then week two at Wisconsin then at Portland State there in Hillsboro that's the one I circled it's a pivotal game Portland State hasn't been really killing it lately although the coaches buying beers for everybody so I do appreciate that uh then week four home to Drake I think this is a manageable noncon schedule like I don't think it's that farfetched I think they could go three and one in the nonon am I crazy no I actually think they should be favored in all three of those games and uh that would be why I had them I had them down at eight because you got a D2 team on there uh Northern State Portland State not really lighting the world on fire and then Drake yeah playoff team but uh we know what to kind of expect from them so uh I think they're going to get housed or I think they're gonna house Drake there I think they're three and one pretty easily in the nonon okay now though they open conference play home to Southern Illinois which is tricky I think that's a pivotal game for them that's another one that I circled then they had the Murray Kentucky to take on the racers of Murray State I think they get that one then they're home to Northern Iowa I like that that game's at home then they're at Youngstown loss at South Dakota State loss by week then home to Indiana State winnable should win that uh at North Dakota which is certainly winnable now and then home to North Dakota State I mean all in all if they go that southern Illinois game week five is huge because to me like if you get that game you're looking at a 4- one start five- one start after the Murray game which would build the momentum for them to beat Northern Iowa potentially week seven which is another 5050 one to me if anything I think I might favor Northern Iowa uh but then who cares if you lose to Young down in South Dakota State you take care of business I think you might have a shot at the FCS playoffs there now I say all of this with that's their ceiling to me um you're thoughts in General on on the entire schedule for the coyotes no agreed I mean getting out of the noncon I told you what I think about that I mean I love the fact that you get Southern Illinois Northern Iowa uh and North Dakota State all at home I I love that Indiana State off of bye that should be an easy win there uh it's that stretch right there that back toback against YSU and South Dakota state but like you said who cares if you win it you're probably not going to maybe do your best you know don't let the team you're playing with house money you're playing with house money exactly you know what I mean so if I if if I'm coach I'm telling them don't worry about the South Dakota State game do not look ahead to that obviously but it's the Youngtown one Young's the game you can win yes exactly so I like the schedule I think it's favorable yeah I mean I hope I hope that they can have a great season but I mean I don't know I also think you want to build the worst case scenario they could lose to Portland State right uh I know Tim in the chat saying Drake's going to beat them I don't know if I'm there yet if it was at Drake maybe I I I I don't know I mean Drake hasn't I know they they were all right last year but they really haven't been a force since [ __ ] Felix Wright was playing for them back in the late 80s early 90s um it it the they could lose to Southern Illinois they could lose to Northern Iowa and then all of a sudden you could really build yourself a scenario where you know [ __ ] really goes downhill but I don't know I think I'll say to me so far of the teams we we've previewed I think the teams that are very interesting to me are Illinois State Indiana State in South Dakota I'm even not even going to put Northern Iowa because Northern Iowa I think deserves to be on a higher platform than South Dakota but I'm excited to see what they can make of their season uh next up we do have the what are they won like 26 [ __ ] games in a row something they have the longest win streak in America in the FCS right now obviously it's the South Dakota State jack rabbits who a their logo is [ __ ] incredible their name is incredible and I love you know Dakota marker game we were talking about Kevin was talking about it earlier uh I'm team Jack Rabbit all day [ __ ] [ __ ] you North Dakota State all right uh team jck team Jack rag Jack Rabbit all day and uh I'm drinking over here um dude they're gonna beat Oklahoma State week one I I was just we were covering on this on the FBS pod and I was like Oklahoma State always sucks in September they lost to South Alabama by like 25 in Still Water last year they should have lost to Tulsa a few times Central Michigan got him one time with John Bon Amigo as head coach they're gonna lose that game dude they're gonna lose in South Dakota State like week one they're gonna [ __ ] them up dude uh now here's the thing is there any chance Incarnate Word with the little Zack kada because if you beat a power four team a P4 team that went to the Big 12 championship last year you know you're gonna have big dick energy you're gonna be feeling great about life could in I know if if only this was in San Antonio would I say watch out for i dub but Zack kada sounds like a great [ __ ] Italian Dish you try the you try the kada um they uh they're gonna lose in Brookings right even even if they win that huge game because I feel like it's a let down spot I mean you know coming off of what they're coming off of this streak if they beat Oklahoma State in still water which I also think is a very serious possibility that could be a losable game against incar at word so that is the one scenario where maybe but uh based off of what I saw from Incarnate Word last year I'm not sweating that game if I'm the jack rabbits I think they're kind of still miles ahead of them I don't think you could just Patchwork a team together with transfers every year and expect to beat a team like South Dakota state so uh tricky spot if they win against Oklahoma state but I still give a big Edge to South Dakota State I think I'm with you I think I'm with you and then week three they get aastana all right I don't know most people are Googling that right [ __ ] don't they got they got it done they got it done don't worry about it it'll be a lay the 55 and a half um week four they are heading to Hammond Louisiana this game's a little interesting the days of Cole Kelly cila there were a team I think I was higher on last year than there they let me down a little bit too but that is an interesting one there in Hammond Louisiana uh against Southeast Louisiana uh but after that they get a by we and then they're at Northern Iowa I love that bye before they go to that you and I Dome [ __ ] right but then and this is the sneaky one but at least it's at home in Brookings could y it's before the Dakota marker game which is week eight when they head to Fargo could young down go into Brookings and knock them off maybe I mean it's it's a good spot to catch him I mean if if it was at the ice castle I'd feel a lot better about that but uh I mean it's a great mascot match up Jack robit versus Pete the penguin he got all that oh yeah oh yeah I tell you the FCS light years ahead of the FBS in that regard yes sir I'd love I'd love to be super optimistic and I was very optimistic about my Penguins a lot last year I can't be in the spot I think they get probably waxed well then they're home to to I'm sorry then that we have the Dakota marker game week eight in Fargo then week nine they're home to South Dakota week 10 home to Murray State week 11 I had this as a as a hard game it's not hard anymore uh at North Dakota then home to Southern Illinois week 12 that's sneaky week 13 they are at Springfield Missouri they're taking on the Bears of Missouri State if they beat Oklahoma state they're running this [ __ ] table no they they could lose at the Fargo Dome obviously let's we should probably talk about that a little bit more but I feel like they have an edge at least from coaching continuity they sh and they've had their number lately man they've just had North Dakota State's number lately especially in Fargo uh are they gonna are they gonna go undefeated again man I think they they definitely should I mean it's going to take an incredible uh level of focus you know but we've seen North Dakota state do it for years and I think South Dakota State can stay focused and and stay on the train as well this is interesting this is probably our biggest difference because this is actually this is my uh number 11 this is my easiest schedule wow yes sir I think they got the uh a little bit of the SEC treatment I mean you threw that Augustana on there out of nowhere I mean that game's gonna be wait a second wait a second here I expect so my logic was Oklahoma state is probably gonna play for the Big 12 Championship yet again in my opinion right so that's a very good feather to have you know in your cap then I think Incarnate Word and and Southeast Louisiana are are playoff teams potentially so that you th to that nodon to me is legit I know aastana is in there right but I'm saying the other three are like legit schools that could that that are they they Feld good football programs then I and I expect South Dakota state to win those games you know maybe not the Oklahoma State one but I'm saying the other ones they they should but then you have to go to Cedar Falls to Northern Iowa which I feel like is a little tricky you have to go to North Dakota state which is tricky you have to go to North Dakota which I mean they made the FCS plays a year ago I know they had some guys leave the portal so my rankings were based off that and then you got to go to Springfield Missouri and they were kind of an enigma to me but and I also thought the Youngstown game before North North Dakota state was a tiny bit tricky that was my Logic on it it is and you're not wrong but here's my thing is Incarnate Word you know they really didn't impress me all that much last year so I still got to go off of the most recent product I've seen on the football last year they weren't a showstopper CA they got us both last year man they tricked us I think we both picked them to win the conference and they were terrible they did they did but they got look I I like what they did in the portal I like what they did in the portal some I mean they're still gonna get [ __ ] up I South Dakota state but I mean I think that you should be optimistic if you're a fan uh of their chances this year I I I agree not in this spot though I do think they turn it around I think CA definitely turns it around they have a better season I just don't give him much of a puncher's chance in this game and then as far as the conference schedule I think lines up really really well for him uh that game against Northern Iowa that could be a tricky game but you got the buy right before it I love that you get Youngstown State at home you get South Dakota at home uh North Dakota we already talked about but you get Southern Illinois at home so I'd like you get those teams at home that could all be tricky games those are all there so to me the Youngstown State one is tricky being before the Dakota marker and then the Dakota marker being on the road is definitely what I would call their their toughest game other than the Oklahoma State spot which in the grand scheme of things isn't necessarily hurt their uh their playoff chances at all if we're being honest so it's not even a a very meaningful game in the big picture I like the schedule I think it lines up well for another big run another thing I'll say is Indiana State had one win last year in the valley they're not on the schedule you want them on the schedule you want them on the [ __ ] schedule if they're as bad as last year now we tend to think they're they're going to be a little bit better this year I don't know that I really I hope that I from a coaching perspective when I when I analyze it I say I don't know um anyway Jacks the Jacks go Jacks they're G to be [ __ ] loaded again we're gonna remember this is not our season preview we're GNA go through all of these conferences and teams with our season preview uh let's talk about the best logo in [ __ ] Sports maybe the [ __ ] Salukis shout out to my guy Stone labanowitz who was a co-host of uh the FCS Nation radio show with uh Kevin who was in the CH earlier shout out to them uh could this be the year I mean I feel like I've been asking myself this for a while here I I honestly thought after Stone labanowitz won that spring game at uh Weaver State in the end know the year they played in the spring uh I thought the next year he's coming back him Nick Hill is good that's the year we got to watch out for him and Nick Hill's done a good job with this program in a way I know in 22 I think they were five and six that's what he gets for not starting labanowitz all right um the other three years though they that they they've been winning they've been I mean they they really haven't had a losing season I mean if you throw at 2022 where they had so many close losses that it's been since 2018 so the program has done very good and uh the the main thing is consistency though though cuz I feel like they can get up and beat they're one of the few Valley teams that I feel like can beat anybody on any given day but they could also lose to anybody on any given day they're like the the true wild card in this conference you look at the nonon they're at BYU they're at Austin P and Clarksville Tennessee there uh you know uh gosh I'm drawing a blank on Scotty walen's gone he left for UTP so Austin P breaking in a brand new head coach uh the other two noncon games are Incarnate Word and and Simo South Southeast Missouri it's a challenging I mean they don't have that easy D D2 school but damn it I think getting Incarnate Word and Simo in Carbondale I'm gonna say they should be three in one in the noncon am I [ __ ] crazy Incarnate Word might get him right yeah I mean that's that's it's it's a tricky noncon there but I actually agree I think they should be three in one a noncon worst case scenario you're looking maybe two and two but um Incarnate Word seimo those two games scare me but I love that they're at home yeah yeah then they start conference play week five they head to Vermilion to take on South Dakota uh then they're home to Illinois State little little uh instate battle you know I Circle those I want to watch those then week seven they're home to North Dakota State and believe it or not like I said I feel like they play them well week eight uh they get a bye-week I liked where the by week's at week nine they had to Terry hot Indiana to take on Indiana State week 10 at see those two away games right there see like I don't I know it's a back toback away but I'm like should I be intimidated by that nope yeah then they're home to Youngstown now this is tricky to me to get Youngstown and South Dakota State back to back it's it's especially like they're home to Youngtown then they're at Brooking South Dakota they could lose both those that Youngtown game is so [ __ ] huge my opinion because let's say they lose to North Dakota State let's say they lose to South Dakota state that is the pivotal game to me uh then the end the season in carbon Dale against the racers I think Saluki are gonna be an FCS playoff team this year you dude this is my sleeper in the conference I'm already calling it on the six I'll make I'll make two predictions on April 16th this is a FCS playoff team I think they're sleeper in the conference I love the schedule you at it six I got it at number seven I think it's very manageable and I do think they're going to win that North Dakota State game man I think they're going to catch uh North Dakota state in the perfect spot not only is it before the Dakota marker game for the Bison this is homecoming for the Salukis I think this is a big spot I think they take them down man oh boy I like this I like this angle here and you better believe what have you covered with the odds because I'm I'm C I'm curious what a what a moneyline play would be um I mean we're so far away from it but get ready to look load up get ready to load up okay next up we're going to talk about your boys you're graduate from the great University of Youngstown State the Penguins here um is this I'll say this from a non-con perspective at Nova's tricky I think Youngstown can beat Nova I think like but Nova's a respectable program back to the days of [ __ ] Howie Long they've been respectable me little little playoff re match yeah yeah exactly I like that element too and then uh home to Valpo Crusaders and then home to duaine who made they they the FCS playoff team what last was that last year was last year yeah they play they played Youngstown State they got that's I thought that's what I thought I wasn't sure if that was two years ago um and then at pit Pit's best defensive lineman just hit the portal pit they lost to Young down in the past 10 12 years do you remember that game M oh I yeah that's what I'm saying uh what do you make of the nonon It's Tricky man I mean valo and Duane I think should both be wins I mean Youngstown State Wu we handled Duane last year in the playoffs so I like that I don't think it's a a game you could just easily look past but I think they got that one I am worried about at pit I think you know most likely obviously probably a loss um and at Nova I mean they they handed us an L in the playoffs last year so got to worry about those two spots I think it's it's uh you're probably looking at two and two if I had to put my money but but look uh what's Doug Phillips has been building for this man like former Luke fickle guy uh at Cincinnati and he was at Ohio State I think with Trestle in the mid 2000s there uh they were what he he took over they were horrible in the spring season I forget they were like winless or maybe they won one game then week or week two then year two they struggled I think they only won like three games and then you saw them turn that corner seven wins I think in 2022 and then eight last year and obviously that the the playoffs didn't go as as they thought it could go but they've been getting better each and every [ __ ] year that Phillips has been there that makes me like believe that they could take down Nova week one and that they could be you were talking about the Salukis I think maybe the wild card is your Penguins man um I like the road schedule look to me we're not sleepers man we expect greatness in Northeast Ohio so you know I can't call well to me there is I like I want to know how you feel well let me uh I'd rather play South Dakota State and Brookings because you're going to lose you might as well lose on the road right agreed agreed so the the other away games are at Missouri state which is after pit which makes a tiny bit tricky but um I think that's a win I think the other ones at Illinois State and at Southern Illinois the Southern Illinois game I just touched on I think it's a pivotal game in the whole season they don't play North Dakota state which is huge the home games in conference home to Indiana State home to South Dakota home to North Dakota home to Northern Iowa they should be favored in all those that's what makes that Saluki game so huge and I'm curious what you take so I think with this schedule they're an FCS playoff team which makes me like that by we a lot more than I traditionally would because I first look at that week 13 bye and I go what the [ __ ] is this that's like that's a horrible spot for a bye what's your what's your thoughts on the bye-week being week 13 uh I had this schedule a little tougher than you I mean I had this at number three actually and that's one of the main reasons I I hate not getting that bye I mean I'd much rather see that bye anywhere in the month of like October basically you know go past that South Dakota State game like you said I I'm not sweating that game going to lose it fine but I'd like to see it come before South Dakota before Illinois state right in between that second back-to-back road trip that they have against Illinois State and Southern Illinois I would love to see that bye there so uh I I really hate missing out on that byee man I'd like to see it sandwich up in there where're somewhere could help but but and I guess there's that whole thing with the NFL playoffs or even like March Madness where the bye actually hurts you yeah and that's another factor that that could that could be a situation too me ideally if I was in charge if I was an athletic director I would always aim for week seven week eight even week nine by week I I like but I see this schedule as a team like I see them as an FCS playoff team so maybe the bye can help you I don't [ __ ] know you never know injuries at your point in week 12 let's say you got a quarterback or a key player dinged up maybe that bye could save your life you know what I mean but um I don't know uh that was the hard part for me but I still think I prefer it week seven week eight week nine something like that uh I had it seventh yeah so uh now some of these numbers like I said I did this yesterday obviously with the news with North Dakota probably these numbers would be a little bit changed but uh either way I I think the most interesting teams to me obviously you know North Dakota State and South Dakota state are gonna be fine I think if you're you're looking for the most interesting like players that could actually win the conference which it seems like is almost impossible for other teams too Youngstown would be one Southern Illinois would be two Northern Iowa would be three right you Circle those three the two schools that I think could come up in Surprise maybe maybe you add a third one in there I don't know but I think it was Indiana State and Illinois State that's why I I really want to watch this season and obviously I want to see who wins the Dakota marker matchup but I don't know did is there anything you want to add do you agree with what I just said I agree with most of what you just said uh I uh I definitely the Salukis they're they're my surprise pick like I said Youngstown State I I think we're going to be in the mix I think you're going to see us come FCS playoff time but I I think the slis have a shot with that schedule to make some real noise um I I forgot to throw this tidb tidbit out there but I wrote it down uh with Western Illinois out Southern Illinois also plays the four bottom teams from the conference the next four uh after Western Illinois who was obviously terrible last year but that's that's also very favorable the other thing I would like to ask is where do you have I didn't hear South Dakota do you think it's a regression year for South Dakota after no I mean that's one where I'm very intrigued I I'm hoping that they have a great year but like they are uh it's weird with Indiana State's schedule and with Illinois State schedule I think the schedule gives them a best chance to surprise but South Dakota is kind of that team that's that's unknown to me uh they could surprise they also could disappoint you know I mean I guess that's that's any team but um I I do think maybe we throw them into the surprise teams you know it wasn't that long ago that they were playing much better ball I know last season was a little tough for them but the year a couple years ago they were playing pretty solid ball maybe they could sneak into the FCS playoffs things go their way so either way uh it's going to be fun to watch the valley is the [ __ ] best so love the valley next up we're gonna try next week we're gonna aim to get the Big Sky done you know I love the Big Sky Conference as well and then the CA and and and and socon I love the [ __ ] socon don't get me started I could have another whiskey I'll talk about the socon for four hours
