BELIEVED TO HAVE BEEN STARTED A COUPLE OF DAYS AGO BY LIGHTNING OF THE CITY OF AURORA. INTRODUCING THE PERSON WHO COULD BECOME THE FIRST PERMANENT POLICE CHIEF IN YEARS. THE PAST 3 CHIEFS WERE INTERIM CHIEF SAID TODAY THE CITY MANAGER AND THE MAYOR SAID IT WAS TIME TO NAME A PERMANENT CHIEF THERE TO GET THE JOB DONE. FOX THIRTY-ONE'S. THEY SENT A RED US ON THIS STORY FOR US TODAY FROM THE AURORA POLICE DEPARTMENT. THE SELECTION OF A PERMANENT CHIEF HERE IN THE CITY OF AURORA CAME AS QUITE A SURPRISE TO A LOT OF PEOPLE. CITY LEADERS TODAY SAYING THAT A PERMANENT POLICE CHIEF WILL HELP THE POLICE DEPARTMENT ATTAIN A LOT OF ITS GOALS. THESE ISSUES THAT YOU ARE EXPERIENCING HERE IN AURORA, TODD CHAMBERLAIN IS A FIRST PERMANENT CHIEF SELECTED IN AURORA IN MORE THAN 2 YEARS. THE FORMER LAPD COMMANDER LATE OUT HIS VISION. WHAT I ALWAYS WILL FOCUS ON IS GOING 3 THINGS. CRIME. >> THE COMMUNITY AND RISK RISK MITIGATION, AURORA CITY MANAGER HIRED CHAMBERLAIN WITHOUT ASKING FOR THE COMMUNITY'S INPUT THIS DEPARTMENT AND THIS CITY. >> HAVE WITH AN INTERIM POLICE CHIEF FOR OVER 28 MONTHS. THAT UNCERTAINTY OVER A PERMANENT POLICE CHIEF IS DAMAGING TO THE DEPARTMENT. >> AND THE COMMUNITY, THE MAYOR SAID CHAMBERLAIN WOULD HELP MAKE APD STRONGER AND THE CITY SAFER. ONLY A PERMANENT POLICE CHIEF. CAN BRING ABOUT THE LASTING CHANGES. >> NECESSARY TO MAKE THE AURORA POLICE DEPARTMENT. AND ORGANIZATION THAT BEST SERVES THE NEEDS. >> OF OUR COMMUNITY AURORA'S POLICE UNION TODAY SAID CHAMBERLAIN STYLE OF LEADERSHIP IS WHAT OFFICERS HERE NEED. NOW YOU HAVE TO GET DIRECTION FROM YOU. CHIEF, YOU HAVE TO HAVE A PATH AND A VISION AND A GOAL. AND WE HAVEN'T HAD THAT CONSISTENTLY OVER THE PAST 5 YEARS IN THE PAST, APD HAS HAD ISSUES WITH USE OF FORCE INVESTIGATIONS. CHAMBERLAIN SAID HIS VIEW ON THESE TYPES OF INVESTIGATIONS WAS ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT QUESTIONS OF THE DAY. THOSE INCIDENTS RELATED TO USE OF FORCE ARE REALLY THE ONES THAT CHANGE THE DYNAMICS OF HOW LAW ENFORCEMENT LOOKED CHAMBERLAIN SAID. >> HE'S CONDUCTED EXTENSIVE INVESTIGATIONS IN CASES WHERE OFFICERS WERE ACCUSED OF USING EXCESSIVE FORCE.
