PREVIEWING New York Jets vs San Francisco 49ers Week 1 Matchup! (The Gold Rush Podcast)

[Music] all right guys what's going on welcome in  so obviously massive massive game right out   of the gate New York Jets at San Francisco 49ers  Monday Night Football like it it doesn't get any   more crazier than that in my opinion I I I feel  like whether you're a Jets fan whether you're a   49ers fan um or a fan of liter any other team in  football Lions Saints take your pick whoever like   you're going to be dialed into this game right  there's so many different storylines uh two teams   that you know have deep playoff uh aspiration deep  playoff push aspirations uh Super Bowl aspirations   um so and in this one I'm joined by my buddy  Javin from the Gold Rush podcast what's going   on bro what's going on not much not much you know  I'm just uh looking forward to this game man every   day you know my skin is crawling and I'm getting  excited I'm getting more pump for it you know I   got scheduled for work on it and I told him I  might have to call out guys I gave him a heads   up I might have to call out to tune in to this  uh more than likely I'm not gonna lie to you yeah   dude no I I totally hear you man uh I've I've been  in the same boat I bro I used I had a my first job   I would call out like every single Sunday during  football season till they like caught on but in   any case yo yeah actually before we dive into kind  of a you know the preview here what's good with   all the Raiders stuff behind you are you you a  Niner andan so I am a Niner fan you know I I grew   up um like you know I remember the the 49ers in  Raven Super Bowl that was probably like my first   biggest moment as a as a Niner fan but my dad he  is a Raider fan uh through and through you know   and so as a baby you know as a baby I have a lot  of baby pictures in Raiders gear very embarrassing   looking back on it I don't know really I don't  know how I didn't fall under the Raiders trap with   my dad with being such an influence but my mom and  her side of the family are big Niner fans and I   always I was always around them so you know I just  I just fell into line and so that's why like this   one right here it's It's A House Divided sign  and half of his Raiders half of it is ners cool   man cool um yeah dude Oakland like I remember you  know just the black hole those games over there   just such an epic kind of atmosphere you know like  the fans just flood the stadium I always remember   those games you know when the Jets would go and  play the Raiders uh you know over on the west   coast it would just be like insane uh but kind of  those uh like two I believe it was 2009 or could   have been 2010 um always a tough place to play but  dude in in any case bro main question I I wanted   to kind of get your opinion on right out of the  gate Super Bowl hangover um obviously the 49ers   they've had a ton of success in the regular season  they've also had a ton of success in the playoffs   as well but as far as just getting to the final  dance and then coming up short a couple times no   disrespect but just calling it you know like uh  do you get the vibe whether it's from you know uh   training camp reports watching all the interviews  uh reading articles and whatnot is there that post   Super Bowl loss type of like lull that we see  like a lot of teams kind of stumble stumble out   of the gate in that Following season are you kind  of picking up on that Vibe at all or no you know   no doubt this off season you know Niners we've  had a pleth of off Seasons with with quarterback   drama now we had auk drama we had Trent Williams  drama and so it does kind of feel like The Vibes   are a little bit off and frankly I wouldn't be  surprised going into this game if it starts off   kind of sloppy for the Niners side I I just saw  reports um Chris forer the Niners old line coach   he said that Trent Williams might have to rotate  out with Jaylen Moore um because of conditioning   Trent you know he sat at all offseason which is  pretty big for the Jets super hangover listen I   don't know very many talented teams that start off  a season and and and don't make it back kind of to   where you know a playoff push I feel like is the  floor for this Niners team uh you you expect to to   make the playoffs and win a game or two um so yes  I'm I'm concerned a little bit uh thinking back in   2019 uh when we lost that Super Bowl against the  Kansas City Chiefs the season after that that's   of course I believe you know that's after when we  went the 12th overall traded back up to uh pick   up Tre Lance at number three that was due to just  bad luck uh ironically facing the Jets early in   the season we lost you know Nick Bosa for the rest  of the year we lost uh we Lo we were banged up a   lot that year so I think if the cards are in our  favor this season we should be able to dominate   this Division and make it back into the playoffs  there is some concern to start off slow in my   opinion with how sluggish you know again with auk  and Trent Williams but all in all I I'm not too   concerned I'm I'm a little I'm I'm confident I I  feel like these guys are Juiced up especially the   older folks like KD I think even Debo has that  chip on his shoulder they're tired of losing in   the playoffs in the Super Bowl so I really feel  like you know this I mean the window's closing   the window's closing I could admit that but I I  want to see them come out guns firing yeah dude   I hear you I I think well I'll say this man even  though you might be a little concerned about Trent   Williams and Brandon auk at least dude at least  they're there at least the the hold outs ended   Hassan reic is still as as far as like you know  the actual uh recording of the show uh which is   Friday night here it's uh he's he's still still  not there right still has not reported you know   it's it's tough man because he he was one of  the big Acquisitions that the Jets made this   off season uh as you know and you know we let  Bryce Huff walk and we let jfm or we sorry we   traded jfm to the Denver Broncos for Min a minimal  return a 2026 sixth round pick which you know it's   tough because jfm and Bryce Hoff were even though  jfm spent time with the LA Rams uh actually could   have been St Louis Rams but in any case it kind of  felt like both of those guys were homegrown they   made a name for them uh for themselves with the  Jets and to see both of those guys walk out the   door and to replace them with reic and then for  him to potentially start skipping regular season   games it's it's a tough pill to swallow but I know  it kind of seemed from afar you know correct me   if I'm wrong it kind of feels like you have Trent  Williams on the left side but there's a couple of   holes oh yeah on the offensive line it's not like  a fully stacked unit like Detroit or something   like that what's kind of your take on the facing  the Jets without Hassan reck assuming he doesn't   play um you know do you feel like you guys are  gonna you know be able to protect pery and be   able to you know create holes for maccaffrey and  whatnot or are you thinking uh I don't know about   this o line yeah so this is this is one of the  things that I said that I'm really looking forward   to watch how this old line saacks up against  a really really good pass rush I mean PFF has   the Jets dline ranked at number one even without  Hassan reik um you've got some young guys on the   edges there Germaine Johnson and Will McDonald I  think that whoever lines up on Colton mckivitz on   that right side which I think the Jets should put  Germaine Johnson out there they're gonna have a   big game this could be a Germaine Johnson Breakout  game I mean and of course when you're talk about   the Jesse I got talk about big quiny Williams  in that middle there I would like to see it's   gonna be a big test for Dominic puny who I believe  was our third or fourth round rookie he's looked   really dominant in the preseason um and so that's  going to be a big test for puny going up against   a really good defensive tackle um I think that  the pressure up the middle is going to be really   big for the Jets and it's it was always kind of  a concern for pie being a smaller quarterback   pressure up the middle is not what you want for  your small guy and that's kind of what we saw that   that was tough last season especially the Niners  uh o line was ranked for PFF you know number 24   it's bad it's bad I'm very I'm very concerned um  and yeah and ironically I was thinking um Hassan   reick you know he was the guy that pretty much  ended the Niner season just two years ago broke   PR's elbow um and now Leonard Floyd you know he  kind of ended the Jets season yeah unfortunately   so I thought that that was pretty ironic there  looking at that yeah dude that that's actually   pretty insane if you think about it um I dude  I I feel like Hargrave is in for a big season   with you guys like a bounceback year because he  I mean you guys paid him a ton um you know if my   memory series correctly and to be honest with you  like you're looking just across that you across   the landscape of that ners defense it's it's it's  insane man Ward I know Lenor has had a fantastic   training camp l yeah looking forward to Lenor and  gett Wilson battling unless if they choose to have   Ward follow Wilson but I I really want to see  Lenor out there so do you know if uh under Nick   senson you know your guys's new DC does he let  Ward follow the one or is it just strictly left   and right Corners so it it depends a lot um I know  when we played Seattle uh charvarius Ward would   follow DK meta specifically but I believe Ward  said that that was Shanahan's call so I think that   Shanahan has a play in kind of what goes on um  and I said I want to see uh Lenor and Wilson but   I think Lenor is gonna be more of a slot guy for  us this year um so I think if if Wilson is lining   out out wide then I I would like to see Ward  follow him especially because the next starting   corner back is gonna be reonardo green probably a  rookie and I think that Wilson is just gonna Feast   on him I'm a big fan I think reonardo green has  some potential in him but his first game going up   against a talented guy like Garrett Wilson with  Aaron Rogers throwing him the ball it's it might   get ugly yeah dude no doubt so uh I I guess we  kind of shift over to the offense I think this is   kind of the biggest see I'm like as a fan I'm more  of a defensive guy so I'm looking forward to like   our jet like the Jets defense going up against  you guys or sorry your offense perie and whatnot   yeah being able to really just set the edge attack  the edge make sure mcaffrey and these guys don't   bend that corner and then it's just you know North  and South style of football I just you know it uh   to be honest I do feel like we have the speed on  defense to handle that but just again as a fan I'm   really excited to see how this defense looks but I  I think from like a national media perspective it   definitely feels like it's it's the Jets offense  going up against the Niners defense you know uh   the the whole well of course you know you got  Rogers coming back from injury but you know you   get the the Rogers 49ers rivalry because of the  draft slip and stuff uh not taking them number one   overall all all these you know small storylines  the the Garrett Wilson Ward kind of back and forth   I didn't really think it was that big of a deal  but some people really kind of blew it up uh but a   lot you know and of course you know the Jets have  Superstars offensively Tyron Smith and Breeze hall   and then the Niners like we were talking about you  know they have superstars on defense with Bosa and   Fred Warner and Ward um but uh like as as far as  like an offensive standpoint goes I really want   to run the rock um you I play to play to your  strengths if I'm the New York Jets right feed   the young running backs brillan Allen Isaiah Davis  get these guys involved of course along with Bree   hall and then hopefully in the second half when  we're having success there and you're forcing San   Francisco to come up and Tackle uh all first half  you know that's when you can really start hurting   the Niners over the top or over the middle of the  field that that's kind of off of play action of   course with Rogers that's kind of my mindset going  into the game as opposed to you know first game   back after missing an entire season let's just  drop Rogers Back 40 times a game and have Bosa   and hardgrave and all these different guys Leonard  Floyd just tee off on him so and it's not to say   that you know if Rogers drops back and throws it  a lot uh you know in the first half he's going   to just get sacked a ton but I I just like the  mindset of okay let's stick to the ground game   what's kind of your Takeaway on the Jets offense  versus the Niners defense what are you looking   forward uh forward to yeah man I mean I'm right  there with you I think I kind of want the Jets   to Pound That Rock a little bit though because I  want to see how the Niners test to that they were   a really bad run defense last year I mean the guys  were running all over us you know I remember Aaron   Jones against the Green Packers he was slicing in  tyon um so I I do want to see a talented running   back in Breece Hall uh what he can do to the sers  defense uh again you mentioned Javon Hargrave I   really want to see him be able to clog that middle  uh they traded for Malik Collins from the Houston   Texans just this year he's a big guy had a solid  preseason um so again I really just want to see   that our big boys clog up that middle no Eric  Armstead gonna be a little bit different because   he was such a big guy but I always felt like you  know he he was he did kind of get tossed around um   in in in the Run game also no Javon kinlaw he's  he's over on y side there um so yeah I I want   to see these new uh interior D linemen really pick  up the pace and I'm curious to see our linebackers   also with no Dre Greenlaw I believe yeah so he's  gonna be out um to see how they can react to the   run and stop that before it gets going see dude  even like without green law I feel like you guys   are going to be fine defensively like not not  necessarily just for like this week one game   but just like through the course of the Season  you know I think your linebacking core is good   and I think the Niners do a really good job and  we've seen this from the Jets but Saul of course   came from the ners they do a really good job  of developing linebackers yeah in my opin well   really developing a lot of different positions but  specifically like with linebackers for what San FR   wants to do yeah and that's what I was gonna  say you know we talked about the edge rushers   with Assan reic being out I'm not too concerned  uh if if I'm a if I'm if I'm the Jets I'm not   too concerned with Germaine Johnson Will McDonald  though they're young sales has such a great track   record with what he can do with defenses that I I  think you know Jermaine Johnson I was a big fan of   him coming out of the draft I think the Jets had  a great draft that year that with sauce and gett   Wilson um and so yeah that that really put me on  watch with the with the Jets I've always been kind   of uh rooting for them uh since then and then of  course the trade with Rogers which is it's gonna   be it's gonna be like it's gonna be quite a game  you know we had we had a game yesterday with the   Chiefs and Ravens this can very well overtake that  for for the game of the week I mean yeah dude 100%   100% I I think it's going to go right down the um  not to you know put you on the spot here but what   are you thinking as far as score prediction who  do you think who who do you got winning all right   yeah so you know I I I could really see it going  back and forth I'm gonna I'm I'm a Niner fan I   gotta pick the ners uh the spread is four and  a half that's very tight I got ners I'm gonna   say 31 to 24 maybe1 points 31 points I think it's  gonna be I think it's gonna be pretty I think this   pretty pretty high scored I think both offenses  are going to get going and yeah I could see it   going I want to see Brock predy you know use his  legs a little bit scramble out um I'm excited to   watch uh bran auk versus S Gardner uh is does  s fall receivers or is he gonna stay on his not   not really I mean the Jets have kind of talked or  Salah has talked about you know maybe doing it a   little bit more um but you know traditionally oh  traditionally in the system it it's just kind of   one side okay you know since you know sa as you  know uh came from Seattle then Jacksonville in   San Francisco so he's never really had I mean  even like Richard Sherman would stick on one   side of the field um you know back back in those  the lobb days but uh yeah dude s hasn't really   follow too much maybe that changes I don't think  we're probably going to see it a lot Monday night   because the 49ers can hurt you both directions  it's not or not on both directions on either side   of the offensive line and it's not like DJ Reid on  the other side is like a ailles heel where we're   like okay we got to cover him and you know make  sure he always has help or make sure he's always   on like the weak uh part of the opposing offense  um dude San Francisco like it it's it's I I feel   like defensive coordinators will drive themselves  crazy trying to think of you know how to stop this   Niners offense when it comes match it's a match  up nightmare yeah you got so many guys you take   out Debo you got auk and KD and CMC to worry about  you take out another them you got the rest I mean   I get it but I think if any team were to stop him  it's that talented Jets roster man I mean likewise   to the ners I feel like they've got guys at each  level I I I can admit that you know I have the   Jets going really far this season um yeah I mean  you got yeah we mentioned the D line linebackers   I mean CJ Mosley he's nobody to to ignore he's  still great tackler and then of course Quincy   Williams who hey we'll see him being tested with  with KD there and I feel like he has the speed   and Zone coverage enough to at least stick with KD  potentially and then of course that secondary is   maybe one of the best in the league I mean I I I  got to respect what the Jets have built out there   cool man cool and then also too for everybody  listening uh his link is going to be listed right   down below in the description box go check what's your  score prediction real quick just before we end   it off yeah dude so I'm gonna go opposite I think  it's gonna be low scoring I I think um again just   knowing how talented the Jets defense is and the  49ers defense and also to you know looking at look   looking at the 49s weaknesses on the offensive  line I think we're going to have a lot of success   there and then you know if you flip him I do think  it might take Rogers a little bit to get I don't   think we're going to see a 300 yard 400 you know  some insane statistical day from Rogers you know   if anything I think it's just going to be a lot of  ball control going up and down the field eating a   lot of clock from both sides um but ultimately  red the the I think both defensive schemes do a   good job in the Red Zone too like it it's just  hard to you know once once you have that back   that that wall behind you you know and everything  is condensed you know the Zone coverage is just   lethal from again from both sides here but yeah  I'm gonna go Jets 20 n or 17 uh but literally   coming down to like a last two minute drive or  four minute drive you know in the fourth quarter   something like that um I can see if the Niners do  go down um by I would say like 10 plus points it's   gonna be an uph battle and it frankly I I'm gonna  I might lose hope if we go down 10 points that   might be wraps because of how talented this Jets  team is and how Rogers how smart Rogers is with   the ball yeah dude I'll say this man like whoever  loses you know on week one like it it's it's not   the end of the world obviously you know whatever  it's week one but it's the AFC NFC so it's not   like you're losing a divisional game and on top  of that man like half the league is is 0 And1 you   know so it's not great way to put it yeah yeah I I  mean so it's not like you're gonna be in the whole   you know you're 0 and five and six or you know  you're in this wild card race or or any like of   course the game of course obviously it matters  so much but you know it's a lot different than   you know the the Jets and the Niners squaring  up in week 15 week 16 then it's just like holy   crap like there's so so much happening but yeah  because it's so early you know I think there might   be a little bit of rust from both sides again  you know with with Trent Williams and iuk and   stuff um and then from the jet side of it we did  have a lot of injured players it's not just Rogers   it's it's ABT coming back and Tyran Smith missed  time last season Morgan Moses missed some time   so Mike Williams obviously he's going to be on a  snap count but yeah dude we'll see but uh dude I   know I said 15 minutes and we're approaching 20  so I appreciate oh yeah for sure for sure we're   gonna see Rogers uh you know something is gonna I  think one of his streaks he six and seven versus   the ners and I believe what he's undefeated or  something like that in Monday night games I saw   some some crazy stat like that uh he does good  he does good in prime time basically so we'll   see which curse it is which curse is going to be  awesome man awesome well yeah dude thanks so much   for
