SO IN THE WAKE OF YESTERDAY'S SUPREME COURT RULING ON PRESIDENTIAL IMMUNITY, MANHATTAN DA ALVIN BRAGG SAYS HE IS NOT GOING TO OPPOSE DELAYING TRUMP'S SENTENCING SET FOR JULY 11TH. MORGAN MCKAY JOINS ME NOW TO BREAK DOWN THE VERY LATEST ON WHAT THIS ALL MEANS. MORGAN, THANKS FOR JOINING US. >> THANK YOU. SO WE JUST GOT A COPY OF THE LETTER FROM THE MANHATTAN DISTRICT ATTORNEY'S OFFICE TO THE JUDGE OVERSEEING FORMER PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP'S HUSH MONEY CASE. AND THEY SAY IN IT THAT THEY'RE OKAY WITH DELAYING SENTENCING FOR TWO WEEKS. THAT SENTENCING WAS SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN IN NINE DAYS. >> THAT IS SURPRISING COMING FROM ALVIN BRAGG, THOUGH, RIGHT? >> YOU KNOW, I THINK BECAUSE, WELL, LAST NIGHT, TRUMP'S LEGAL TEAM FILED A MOTION SAYING THAT THEY WANT TO TOSS A CONVICTION IN LIGHT OF THE SUPREME COURT'S PRESIDENTIAL IMMUNITY RULING. AND THEY INTRODUCED THEIR THEY SPOKE ABOUT EVIDENCE IN THE TRIAL THAT WAS INTRODUCED THAT TRUMP SOCIAL MEDIA POSTS ABOUT HIS FORMER LAWYER, MICHAEL COHEN. THEY SAY BECAUSE THAT WAS DONE WHEN HE WAS PRESIDENT, THAT SHOULD HAVE NEVER BEEN INTRODUCED. YEAH. NOW, THEY DIDN'T USE THAT IMMUNITY RULING, IN THEIR DEFENSE, THEY DIDN'T TALK ABOUT IMMUNITY, PRESIDENTIAL IMMUNITY DURING THEIR DEFENSE OF THE TRIAL AND THE MANHATTAN DISTRICT ATTORNEY'S OFFICE SAYS THAT IN THEIR FILING, THEY SAY, ALTHOUGH WE BELIEVE THE DEFENDANTS ARGUMENTS TO BE WITHOUT MERIT, WE DO NOT OPPOSE HIS REQUEST FOR LEAVE TO FILE. SO THIS SENTENCING WAS SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN ON JULY 11TH, BUT THEY'RE OKAY. THEY'RE STAYING WITH PUSHING IT BACK AT LEAST UNTIL JULY 24TH. NOW, IF YOU REMEMBER, TRUMP WAS CONVICTED OF 34 COUNTS OF FALSIFYING BUSINESS RECORDS RELATED TO HUSH MONEY PAYMENTS TO ADULT FILM STAR STORMY DANIELS IN AN EFFORT TO INFLUENCE THE 2016 ELECTION. >> BUT SOME OF THOSE CHECKS BEING THAT HE WROTE WHILE HE WAS PRESIDENT, SO POSSIBLY THAT MAY FALL UNDER THAT IMMUNITY ACT. LET'S TALK ABOUT HOW THIS HELPS PRESIDENT TRUMP ON THE SURFACE. IT HELPS HIM MOMENTOUSLY LIKE THIS IS JUST IT'S CRAZY HOW THIS HELPS HIM, BUT YOU'RE SAYING NOT SO MUCH LIKE THERE'S SOME BACK END STUFF, THAT THIS COULD ALSO HURT HIM AS WELL. >> YEAH. SO I WAS TALKING TO A PROFESSOR OF SUBURBAN STUDIES WHO IS AN EXPERT IN SWING VOTERS, SUBURBAN VOTERS WHO OFTENTIMES CAN MAKE OR BREAK AN ELECTION. AND HE SAID SOME OF THESE VOTERS MIGHT BE HESITANT NOW TO VOTE FOR TRUMP WITH THIS NEW IMMUNITY RULING. NOW PRESIDENT JOE BIDEN HAS SAID THAT HE WOULDN'T USE IT. BUT AT THE SAME TIME, OF COURSE, WE DON'T KNOW HOW THAT'S GOING TO WORK YET. BUT IN THE IMMEDIATE FUTURE, IT COULD POSSIBLY HELP BIDEN WITH HIM COMING OUT AND SAYING HOW MUCH IS AT STAKE WITH OUR DEMOCRACY. HERE'S A SOUNDBITE FROM HIM.
