Postgame Presser: Baylor Loses to Iowa State in Big 12 Tournament

Scott Drew okay we've got um Baylor head coach Scott drew here along with jayen Bridges and Caleb loner coach can you get us started with some general comments about the game yeah I think uh uh again uh thank Kansas City Big 12 tournament they put on a uh a great tournament which allows us an opportunity to get ready for the NCA tournament um obviously one win this tournament but hats off to Iowa State they uh uh really played well um really shot it well um some of that's on our defense some of that's uh uh credit deserved for them I mean uh uh 92% free throw line 50 from three 45 from the field only six turnovers so really efficient there I was pleased with uh how we rebounded um the basketball but uh uh other than that we didn't play our best game and uh um hope hope y we can uh uh make sure we do that for the tournament okay remember to identify yourself along with your affiliation let's go right here Bryce Cherry wo trib Scott uh obviously you guys have been a great offensive team all season with the way the last two games have gone do you have any concerns going into the NCAA tournament well first uh um Cincinnati's defense was third best I think in the conference and Iowa State second in the nation so um uh they're going to they're going to make everybody look bad def uh offensively and uh when you don't make shots I mean we're five for 24 some of those are uh um tough shots that we took that uh uh I didn't put our guys in good enough positions to get better looks and that's on me um and then we had some open ones but uh that's where 140 Second Chance points is normally uh good but not good enough when you're when you're shooting 20% and I mean weren't guarding us on the free throw line and 64% that that that sends you home Randy Peterson de Mo register um Scott if Iowa State plays like they played tonight the rest of the way how far can can TJ's team go oh but there's this year's more wide open than any year I mean they they they easily could win a National Championship so um but you can probably say it for about 30 teams so uh the one thing they're going to do is offensively it's going to give them a chance each and every night and then uh when they operate like they did offensively they're really hard to beat let's go at our fourth row Justin Williams from the athletic coach you guys a 13 turnovers that's actually not bad against Iowa State the way they've played this year what else did they do to to slow you down offensively tonight well I mean 13's better than 20 we had the first time but the first time we made a lot more shots so uh um the big thing is our turnovers you they need to be dead ball and not live ball and we had way too many live ball turnovers that put them in transition let's go here on second row Jaylen Brown Jaylen uh do your eyes kind of light up when you play Iowa state in the Big 12 tournament CU you did get off to a pretty good start shooting the ball um I wouldn't say like anybody in particular like I get more excited for it but I just feel like every opportunity that we have especially coming towards the end um it's just a to be out there with my teammates and these coaches so I don't care who it is I'm going to give it my all regardless of Iowa State um whoever it don't Caleb Martin matter Caleb you had a a big uh tournament I mean both nights I mean uh what was just kind of your mindset coming in and and just how fun was that to to contribute like you did yeah it was fun um just want to give credit to my teammates and coach is you know I wouldn't be able to play the way I played unless I was put in positions to be successful and uh one of my roles is to come in bring energy and help the team win at the end of the day I think that's all the players goals is we want to win every single game we can and so I think coming in and um establishing myself a little bit and helping us you know get going is uh helped us a little bit but I'm excited to get things moving on and see where we're going on next Thursday or Friday any other questions uh let's go back here to the fourth row coach do you expect Langston to be good to go by tournament time next week uh that's that's the plan um uh really feel for him he's had a tough go at it and uh um he's a great young man and works really hard um this last time uh uh uh he was just getting back to where he was uh feeling really good so uh the good news is he's in good spirits and uh um we'll see how he does in practice come this Final Thoughts week Jaylen as you guys kind of uh go look at the film kind of go back to the drawing board get ready for next week I mean do you still like this team's chances to to make a good run in March I mean absolutely we we talk about it um amongst ourselves all the time no matter what our conference record says we feel like we're the best team in this conference um so I'm just super excited whoever we end up against just to like I said before go at it with these players my teammates these coaches cuz it's winner go home time and I'm I don't want to go home yet I want to keep playing with these guys anything else for the Baylor team okay Coach thank you guys thank you
