how's it going everyone the Green Bay Packers are signing a new free agent and that is kicker Greg Joseph and they are bringing in some competition for Anders Carlson especially since he struggled his rookie year so this comes from his agent Brett Tesla on Twitter saying the Green Bay Packers are signing my client Greg Joseph who kicked for the Minnesota Vikings the past three years holds the NFL record for gamewinners in a season at five Vikings record for longest field goal at 61 yards and led NFL in touch back percentage in 2021 he had other interests but liked this opportunity and on that tweet it sounds like a great thing like this is some true competition but when we kind of start looking at the stats between Anders Carlson and Greg Joseph it paints a more similar picture honestly so first off a tweet from Andy Herman he stated that Greg Joseph is three for seven and for his entire career kicking at Lambo field including two of his last six hopefully that improves so he has not had success at Green Bay for his entire career so that part doesn't really bode well now going into the stats comparison last year between the two kickers so for Anders Carlson last year he made 27 out of 33 attempted field goals which was good for an 81.8 field goal percentage and was 4 for8 from 40 to 49 and three for five out of 50 plus he had a Touchback percentage of 4 43% but according to the coaches that is actually what they instructed him to do so we'll kind of take that one with a grain of salt and he made 34 out of 39 extra point attempts now in comparison for last year with Greg Joseph he went 24 field goals made out of 30 attempts which was good for only 80% which is a lower percentage than Andre Carlson and from the 40 to 49 distance he made three out of six field goal attempts and four out of seven from 50 plus so not much of a difference there yes his uh Touchback percentage was at a 77.2% so a very good Touchback percentage compared to Anders Carlson but once again the coaches allegedly they said that they told Anders Carlson really not to do that for whatever reason or whatever decision they've had so that might not entirely be on honr Carlson if he's just doing what the coaches instructed him to do and also Greg Joseph was 36 for 38 on extra point attempts so a better percentage there so there is some slight competition there but this isn't a huge competition Greg Joseph hasn't really done very well himself uh he has a lower field goal percentage made than Andre Carlson and also when coming up to the splits you got to wonder since he played in Minnesota is he just better in a dome and looking at the splits win on the outdoors he is 0 for two last year from 40 to 40 49 but two for three from 50 plus and then indoors he was a lot better 40 to 49 yards he was 3 for four and then 50 plus he was two for four um he had a better field goal percentage indoors than outdoors and with the extra points it was pretty much the same indoors and Outdoors it did not make a difference it seemed like for him so that is a question for Greg Joseph can he actually do well in Green Bay if he were to somehow win this job against Andre Carlson or is this just someone who kind of looks good on paper but statistically if you're just looking at he's probably not better than Andre Carlson this is to light of fire under Carlson and try to get him better and hopefully have a significantly better year than he did in his rookie year now it is also unclear at this current time if the Packers are going to keep three kickers going into training camp cuz as of right now they obviously have Anders Carlson new kicker Greg Joseph and also Jack pesne that they signed in the offseason earlier this year so it's unsure if we're going to keep pesne or not but as of right now he's still on the roster Greg Joseph's contract is only for a year so it's not a long-term thing and I feel like he's still just there to get Andre Carlon to be better than he was last year he had a tough rookie season but it was just his rookie season so hopefully he's learning the Coach Rick Rich Bacha can correct whatever was wrong and get him better and this is really just lighting a fire under him but let me know what you think down in the comments if you like the video hit the like button subscribe to the channel and as always go back go
