Seattle Seahawks SURPRISING Depth Chart After 2024 NFL Draft Ft. Byron Murphy II & Christian Haynes

the updated depth chart for your Seattle Seahawks will run through all three categories offense defense and special teams talk about some of the notable competitions heading into training camp and let's take it to the Steelers and get our revenge for Super Bowl 40 we begin with the quarterback position with some notable changes for Seattle goino Smith still QB W Sam how slides into that qb2 spot but now chevan Cordo out of San Jose State the undrafted free agent rookie will step in as the qb3 we'll see how he does if he can earn a spot on the roster or not traditionally speaking the Seahawks have only carried two quarterbacks on the 53 band roster but we'll see what Mike McDonald has in mind there meanwhile the running back position is pretty fascinating Kenneth Walker is your main guy with Zack shb a as the number two back Kenny McIntosh as the number three and a couple udfas holding down uh some spots as well we'll see what they do here in mini camp in the coming days but this could see some potential change here as we've heard the Rumblings from John Schneider about potentially bringing in Rashad Penny or another Veteran running back with the possibility of competing for a role on this uh Seahawks backfield we've seen traditionally speaking the Seahawks go with about four running backs on the active roster when the roster gets narrowed down to 53 so we'll see if Rashad Penny or some else comes in and also if they do come in what would their role exactly be I don't see another running back stepping into the roster in moving up ahead of Walker or shanet on the depth chart if somebody else comes in like a Rashad Penny they're going to be competing to be the number three or four back potentially so we'll see how that all works out there at the end of the show what your grade is in our pin comment today the wide receiver position for the Seahawks DK medcafe and Tyler Lockett each on the outside while Jackson Smith and jiga hold things holds things down as the slot receiver Jake Bobo should see uh an increase in his playing time this season he'll be one to watch out for DQ Young also there dsig company as well uh fighting for uh position for playing time there in the wide receiver room the tight end room looks much different for Seattle in 2024 as Noah Fant takes on the lead tight end role not sharing that position with will dley like he was Prior uh in the last two years when we showed you in the depth charts where they said it was Noah Fant tight end one a and will dley tight end 1B that's over with Noah Fant is the guy now FAL Brown slides into the tight end two roll uh but watch out for brown who the Seahawks drafted out of Michigan to compete for some potential playing time and uh also West over the tight end that they signed from the University of Washington a lot of excitement about the potential of him earning a roster spot for the Seattle Seahawks too now I'll say this none of these other tight ends outside of Fant are great re receiving threats though I am a bit concerned about this group because my Hope was that the Seahawks would go out there whether it was in free agency or with a higher draft pick go find a very good receiving threat tied end to be that number two tight end next to Noah Fant that way you can run some 12 personnel and do that we've seen the best teams in the National Football League they all run 12 personnel and have multiple tight ends that can catch at a high level as of right now the only proen tight end that is a very good pass catcher that we know for certain is Noah Fant so that leaves a little bit of a hole if you will in that tight end room the offensive line is very fascinating for the Seattle Seahawks Charles cross and Abraham Lucas are the only returning starters on the offensive line from 2023 while lak and Tomlinson who signed over from the New York Jets he will assume the starting left guard roll Olo o Tei gets promoted to the starting center roll after the departure of Evan Brown and for now Anthony Bradford will be your starting Right Guard but Christian Haynes is right there and he will be competing for playing time he'll try to make things hell for Tomlinson and Bradford to see if he can take one of their jobs potentially and I'll say this with Haynes he's going to have to earn it right he's not going to be handed one of these starting offensive guard spots but I would expect fact that when the season rolls around as we get through training camp and the pre-season that we're going to see Christian Haynes earn one of these starting jobs specifically I think he's going to beat out Anthony Bradford and end up being your starting Right Guard he doesn't hold that spot right now he's going to have to earn it but I think when it's all said and done he's going to be the guy that gets the push gets the nod to start in the offensive line with L and tomblinson on the other side and maybe if both guys perform well there's a possibility remember Lan Tomlinson has had some injury issues and such and been inconsistent at times there's a I would say it's a slim possibility but still possibility that maybe Haynes and Bradford both end up starting and we see Tomlinson be the odd men out when it's all said and done now I want to ask you pick a starting Right Guard who would you rather roll with would you rather roll with Anthony anchor of the Interior we've heard from Mike McDonald say that he wanted to build a wall with this defense and Byron Murphy certainly going to be the building block piece but then the pieces around it is where things all of a sudden get interesting Leonard Williams I'm projecting to be on one side with draymont Jones on the other side side which means that jiren Reed is the odd man out Jonathan henkins as a rotational piece and Mike Morris is a rotational piece as well and what's Wild is that this position group if we were to go back to let's say even October for the lard Williams trade this was a very weak position group for the Seattle Seahawks and now things have changed where this is a position of strength all of a sudden here pressures on Draymond Jon Jones if for a disappointing 2023 to earn that playing time after all that money he's being paid he's got something to prove a chip on his shoulder to prove why he deserves to even be with that starting defense there and and jiren Reed we saw flashes right I like the flexibility here even if if he ends up being the odd men out gets bumped out of the starting lineup for Byron Murphy here I still like the idea that he can play any of those three positions and be the first guy that comes in to rotate if there's an injury or if a guy needs a breather whatever it may be you can throw jiren Reed in there so not only do you have options and you have the ability to stop the run that you didn't really have before the month of October before the trade deadline last year but now you have depth as well remember Leonard Williams was the seah Hook's best defensive player for the second half of 2023 so I'm feeling really good about this group a lot better than what I was feeling just even several months ago so who gets the nod to start of the defensive line I'm leaning towards draymont Jones but Jen Reed's a good football player in his own right as well who do you guys think it will be type Jr for jiren Reed who shot Jr or type DJ for draymont Jones let me know in the comments section below let's go to the linebacker room where we have seen a complete overhaul a Extreme Makeover home Edition if you will for the inside linebacker room is uh Terrell Dodson is going to be the one that's the Green Dot we heard that from Mike McDonald himself as predicted here on Seahawks today well Jerome Baker will be next to him on the inside they replace uh the likes of Bobby Wagner and Jordan Brooks and the thing with both of them too is they are very good when it comes to coverage as coverage linebackers which was not a strength of Bobby Wagner or Jordan Brooks this past season meanwhile the outside boy MAF the Seahawks leader in sacks last season looking to have a pro bowl caliber year in year number three well uchin and wosu holding things down on the right side he'll be coming off that season ending injury from a year ago but you have some depth pieces I'm excited to see what Daryl Taylor can do uh we've seen him as a very good pass rusher does a good job of getting after the quarterback but kind of struggles with everything else uh meanwhile Derek Hall he's in year number two and uh kind of the complimentary piece to Boyer MAF they both do totally opposite things well like that thunder and lightning uh kind of ordeal I expect his playing time to increase but watch out I like this new linebacker room setup of what Mike McDonald's doing with that group The Corner Room this is where things get very interesting uh where the Seahawks have some figuring out to do if you will we know Rick Wen is going to be starting on one side uh Mike Jackson had has the upper hand to start on the other at the moment but this could all change relatively fast we've seen Trey Brown have his moments where he's played very well uh but you look at some of the other pieces I mean you you brought in pritchet in this draft uh you have some other guys like Jones that are going to be competing Ry Burns is still hanging around then the whole Devon Withers spoon equation I think that we're we're going to see Mike McDonald do with Devon Witherspoon is have him in a Kyle Hamilton type role like we saw with Hamilton and Baltimore where he played a little corner played a little nickel played a little safety kind of a RoR where he'd let him Excel to his fullest by uh putting him kind of all over the football field I would imagine that's what Mike McDonald is looking to do with Deon Witherspoon I'd be surprised if we see Deon Witherspoon move to the outside Corner Spot and kind of try to maximize his potential by putting him in that nickel SL Roma role of some sorts there Seattle has the most depth they've had in a long time when it comes to the secondary as a hole we'll get to the safety room here in just a moment but I'll say this pressures on riek Wallen to have a bounce back here had a pro bowl outstanding rookie season last year took a significant step back and really struggled tackling wise reck's got to improve he's got to get back to what we saw his rookie season because if not not if his performance slides even further than what it was a season ago then he's going to find himself being on the one on on the on the outs of getting uh bench for a guy like Trey Brown potentially so this is going to be a very competitive room Rick wen's got to figure it out he's he's got to get back on track uh otherwise that's not going to fly with Mike McDonald what's your confidence level in riek woen heading into 2024 I want to see what we saw from Tariq woen his rookie season I don't want to see this reiek woen that changed his name before last year I think we need to see toriq make his return and if he plays like he did in in 2022 again maybe should start going by Tariq again what's your confidence level in Tariq Wen or riek Wen whatever you want to call him heading into this year I think he's going to bounce back I'm going to give him about a 7.5 scale it for him in the comments section let me know what you think the safety room for the seah hws this is going to be very interesting to see what this group comes up with Julian love at the free safety spot ran Jenkins who they brought over from the Jags I thought one of the uh best signings for the seah hwks this free agency period a sneaky good signing he'll start at the strong safety position Kobe Bryant uh be fascinating to see what his role exactly is as uh the Seahawks are expected to play with three safeties at times uh in a in you know a three High safety look and we saw that last year as well the seks did that with Jamal Adams and Julian love and quandre Diggs so whatever Mike McDonald has dialed up there I think Kobe Bryant's going to see his role I don't think Kobe Bryant is going to be playing Corner anytime soon I think he's kind of locked in at that safety spot special teams no real significant changes in this group uh with Meers and Dixon of course holding things down at the kicker and punter spot uh and then the kick return game obviously uh going to be a bigger emphasis in 2024 with the new kickoff rules that'll take part uh but ESOP Winston expected to kind of man things down for the punt return coverage at least in Camp anyway we'll see where things go from there m grade right now I like this Seahawks roster a lot I think we've seen significant improvement from the team that we saw on the field in 2023 I think it's about a B+ right now is my greatest not perfect but there not just some glaring holes and and weakness of sorts there the tight end position
