Seahawks Today: Live News & Rumors + Q&A w/ Tyler Jones (August 28th)

[Music] a [Music] [Music] what up Seahawk fans welcome and to this LIVE edition of Seattle Seahawks today powered by Chad Sports Tyler shelds here with you so glad to have you with us coming up on today's show it is waiver wire day our first waiver wire of the Season we will uh catch you up to speed with some potential free agent targets for the Seattle Seahawks ahead of the season opener next week with players looking for new destinations that have been released the seks did not make any waiver claims but there's still some players out there we'll discuss those who could end up in Seattle before week one also we will look at the updated depth chart for your Seattle Sea Hooks and we'll do Q&A mailbag as well use hash SE hooks or Super Chat to get on the mailbag portion of today's show Tyler Smith Smitty here in the house with me and Smitty uh we we had a very busy day with doing the video earlier that people can go watch with a full recap an analysis of the Seahawks moves so we're going to keep things kind of moveing we're going to get to our first segment here in just a pit but knowing what we know of the roster and the practice squad and all that just over a week away what what do you think what the Seahawks have done the last few days SMY uh I I like the moves um bringing some familiar faces back to the practice squad is something you always like to see um and I think the Seahawks roster is to be improved it's it's improved upon from last season I believe in the vision the new coaching staff has they seem to be working tirelessly in practice and look they looked fine in the preseason but there's not much to take away from that I like this Seahawks roster I think they're going to surprise a lot of people this season and be a fringe playoff team there in the NFC how would you great the Seahawks 53 man roster ABCD RF weigh in and let us know it's our pul question today uh 40% of you saying a 36% saying B 20% saying C 4% saying D get in that chat right now and get your grades in I I I'm about a solid B+ I think I know that uh we see uh tat toown boy brought up the point that said can't believe we cut Jamie Sheriff had an outstanding preseason he ends up in Carolina as does John rigan uh obviously the Seahawks pulled off that trade for Michael Barrett from Carolina who's now on their practice squad there some very interesting things going on back and forth between in Seattle and Carolina here and Carolina in general has been absolutely having a fire sale of players that made their 53 man roster since they'll have to cut like what seven players that they that they had announced in their 53 man roster yesterday now they pick up like seven guys on the waiver wire and have to cut you know a bunch of guys on their roster that that sucks Carolina's in a weird spot right now but uh the Weir business going on between them and Seattle I'll say this when it comes to Jamie Sheriff uh I know that some of you are upset that he didn't make the 53 man roster as good as he looked um but I'll say this for his sake I am happier for him that he ended up on an active roster elsewhere than to be on the practice squad for the Seahawks as much as it would have been great to still have him on the practice squad and everything for his sake this is a much better opportunity for him yeah um honestly it's unfortunate because the Seahawks H are lucky now to have decent depth at linebacker in my opinion I love the free agency moves that they made they fit the the style of defense that Seattle wants to run and you're getting surprising play out of guys like Tyrese Knight who is play you know probably going to play a lot of snaps this season because we've seen injuries already from Terell Dodson and Jerome Baker but I I have high optimism for the Seahawks linebacker room but glad to see Jamie Sheriff getting some opportunity elsewhere yeah yeah get your grades in abcdf let us know because we're doing a shorter show today no Super Chat menu but that doesn't mean you can't Super Chat still support the show as Smitt we're going to do a mailbag coming up later and uh super chat questions are going to get priority those will be the first questions that we answer and then uh we'll answer the other ones using hash seaw Smitt we need PL need plenty of questions we need plenty of questions we don't have any right now so far so use hash SE Hawks if you want a chance to be on the mailbag but the only way you can be guaranteed on the mailbag today at asking a question putting it on the show is by super chatting dollar sign next to the chat box there to make a donation to the show and be heard and just because we don't have a menu per se doesn't mean we're not going to show you love on oh yeah we'll make some deals I mean listen if we get a $50 super chat but it has to have a Seahawks question in it I might just take a couple shots okay so a mystery Super Chat menu we could negotiate potentially uh here on today's show so uh like I'm seeing you guys guys have some good questions but I haven't seen anybody use the hashtag Seahawks or Super Chat # Seahawks so our system can pull it from our database here so let's go ahead and not wait any more we'll get started with our first segment we're going to talk potential free agent targets for the Seattle Seahawks I got five names to watch then we'll get to our depth chart and then that mailbag segment um let's go to Micha real quick uh Michael with this $10 Super Chat and then we'll uh we'll get started with that first segment uh and I appreciate Michael getting in on the action here today uh with this $10 Super Chat is that pulling yes it is okay Michael with a $10 Super Chat much appreciated Michael uh cheers to you well uh I'm drinking water here my apologies he says uh media Hawks got the best coaching candidate drafted the best defensive player underperformed on a nine win season filled many needs and have had a good off season also made Hawks get five wins at best it is interesting Smitty just how much this team is being you know sold short by the national mainstream media out there not a lot of Believers I I think the Seahawks I like being the underdog I I like the idea of this team I said I said this on Saturday night and I'll continue to reiterate it this team feels like the best kept secret in the NFL 100% I'm I'm all in on on Seattle this year and not not in the sense that I think they're going to win a Super Bowl or anything but in the sense that this is going to show a lot of people that Seattle is on the right trajectory to be contending in the NFC for years to come yes uh figure you got to use hashtag Seahawks hash Seahawks my friend hashtag Seahawks uh like Lyall use hash Seahawks um like uh some of the stuff that you guys got like you're making some good points but put hash Seahawks or Super Chat like Michael did we'll include that in the mailbag uh that we'll get to coming up later up next we'll talk free agent targets for the Seattle Seahawks and then uh we will get to our updated depth chart how things look for the Seahawks see figure you got to put your message in with the hashtag Seahawks in your comment then we can pull that in our system and be able to put that on screen so that's how that works so uh stay tuned for that mailbag segment coming at the end of the show need a lot of questions # Hawks or Super Chat to get on today's show and I will answer your mailbag questions coming up later uh depth chart also to follow and you know this depth chart I I'll be honest here folks I won't spoil too much when we go over it here just a bit but this looks a lot different for Seattle than I think any of us would have uh expected uh do you want to make uzama red okay sweet sweet um goo Smith checking in the chat uh good to see you Gino I've seen Gino a lot more as of late I rather be slept on than teams preparing heavily for us very well so very well so that might be the case Matrix sent it in a Super Chat as well good to see you Matrix uh Matrix writing in there we go Lyall you use hashtag Seahawks appropriately thank you for that Matrix with a $5 super chat with all these players in recent games played what's your thoughts on the Seahawks records so I'm going to do a record prediction video coming up next week on the channel but I do think that this team is in that playoff range I think it's between the I'd say the floor is eight the ceiling is 11 and you know you got one possession games overtime games you know you'll need some luck potentially to get close to that 11 margin we saw in our Madden Sims that got to 11 uh but I think it's somewhere between that range Smith what what do you think so what's kind of your your your floor and your ceiling record-wise oh record-wise uh I think the floor is unfortunately the floor is probably like 6 and 11 okay and I think the ceiling is give me 10 and seven okay yeah my ceiling's 10 and seven I think they're going to go n nine and eight um but I think I don't think this is an 11 win team just yet all right uh another Super Chat coming in real quick and then we'll get to our segments here uh Star Wars Iron Giant with a $2 Super Chat says # Seahawks how do you like Estridge last Saturday he played great but now he's a Miami Dolphin so uh appreciate that Star Wars Iron Giant will uh we'll throw that in the mailbag segment coming up later so no worries no worries um yeah I mean I I'll say this he signed with the Dolphin's practice squad I was surprised that he didn't stick around Seattle not on the 53 man roster but on the practice squad that he would be willing to pick up his bags and go elsewhere to be on somebody else's practice squad but Odell Beckham's got an injury right now maybe he sees a potential opportunity for him there in Miami to get some playing time potentially uh here sooner than later so we'll see but Star Wars Iron Giant thanks for that $2 Super Chat appreciate you guys uh send in Super Chat support the show $17 and we're not even doing a formal menu today and you guys are showing up and showing out so uh we certainly thank you for that on that front up next free agent targets and then uh we'll look at the depth chart for the Seahawks and then we'll do a Q&A mailbag to wrap up today's show keep getting those questions in hash Seahawks or Super Chat the super chat questions will get the priority on the mailbag segment that will be coming on to you uh at the end of today's show so that is what's ahead shorter show folks then we normally bring you um but don't worry we'll still have plenty of good content and we got some great content coming up throughout the next few days uh so stay tuned on the channel tomorrow Friday Saturday Sunday and then uh Monday it'll be game week and we'll do it here with you thanks for stopping by with the roster cutdowns in the rear view mirror we've also had the first waiver wire now the countdown to kickoff is on and could there be another big move coming for your Seattle Seahawks as they find themselves now with $13 million in cap space according to overthecap.com does that mean that they're looking to add another piece before the season begins I got five free agent targets to watch here on this edition of Seattle Seahawks today we'll break them down cing up in just a moment before we do folks we are getting oh so close to 55,000 subscribers on the channel I put the challenge out a few days ago that I wanted to get the 55k subs before Week 1 and we are making significant progress folks we're just over 150 away from that next Milestone we're going to be live for every single looks game this season including the opener against the Broncos we're going to continue to bring you our daily news and rumors our weekly live shows uh breaking news ql bags and more it's all right here on Seattle Seahawks today subscribe now for free never miss a moment youtube.com/ seaw TV and we'll get started with today's show let's begin with yanuk andak yanuk andak still available in NFL free agency uh at this point in gway he's been a journeyman in the National Football League playing for several teams like the Chicago Bears the Baltimore Ravens the Indianapolis Colts just to name a few and the edge rusher position for Seattle right now has some question marks right with the injury to eugin and wosu we hope but we don't know for certain that he's back sooner than later that leaves that spot up in the air and one thing I've pointed to on this program that I'll continue to reiterate when it comes to to Mike McDonald and what he's done with the edge rusher position in his two seasons with the Baltimore Ravens is maximizing older talents that aren't being paid a ton of money and kind of rejuvenating or revitalizing those guys right we saw it with the likes of Justin Houston we saw it with Kyle vanoi we saw it with javian Clowney yanak kak who he coached previously by the way feels like that type of guy coming off a down year with just four sacks he had n and a half sacks two seasons ago and he's not going to cost you a ton of money he's somebody that you're looking at potentially paying a veteran minimum a pro it deal of sorts this feels right up Mike McDonald's alley to bring in a guy like yanak gay and get him to nine plus sacks again look the Seahawks have their pass rushers that can get after the quarterback they have guys that can play coverage they have guys that can stop the run all you would need from yanuk and gway potentially is hey can you come into the rotation and be a guy that you know just gets your sacks and basically be the replacement for Daryl Taylor no offense to Gibson who the Seahawks just traded for but I would feel much better about yanuk and G's chances to have a pretty good season and to make an impact than I would with with Gibson quite frankly to me yanuk and gqu could potentially be worth taking a flyer on what do you have to lose so I like the idea what do you guys think should the seah sign yanak and gway type S for sign P for pass way in the comments section tell us what you think still available at this point is Shaq Leonard at the linebacker position I and the seags have some question marks when it comes to the linebacker spot and I feel like if you bring in Leonard that would provide some relief some breathing room if you will at this position right now cuz here's where things stand at the moment Terell dodson's going to be your Green Dot linebacker everybody's excited about him he looks like a complete player he's good at uh you know pass coverage one of the best pass coverage linebackers in football was the highest rate in the league by Pro Football Focus last year you got Jerome Baker who we feel good about but there's the injury concern is he even going to play week one Mike McDonald says so but that remains to be seen and then Tyrese Knight he's a rookie he's a fourth round rookie he looked good in the preseason but still very raw right and then at the other spot like are we so certain uh about that linebacker position about Drake Thomas like H I don't know sha Leonard could make me feel a lot better about where the Seahawks are at a veteran that's played at a high level that's you know played in Pro bowls before sure he's not the same player that he was maybe in 2020 when he had 132 sacks and seven tackles for loss and all that but I don't need him to be that guy I just need him to be a guy that could potentially come in and just settle things down to be a depth piece to give you some more comfort in where this team is at at that position that's all I need from him and I think that he's more than capable of that if he was given that opportunity to do so next let's talk about David bakari the Legendary Green Bay Packer who's had a fantastic career but he's been very banged up injury-wise and we've seen when he's been healthy he's been one of the best he's been a GameChanger and now that we know that Abraham Lucas is going on the pup list that he will not be available for the first four games you have to think in the back of your mind all right if he's not available for the first four games when is he going to be available we don't know bakori could be a game changer and you think about this group Charles cross got banged up week one last year as did Abraham Lucas George Fant uh is going to step in and be your starting right tackle for now while Abe Lucas is on that pup list and so bakari I would have on speed dial ready to go especially uh after week one if something were to happen or if you're feeling like you know what maybe I don't want Mike Geral a sixth round rookie backing up uh you know the the likes at the right tackle position uh there of George Fant maybe I'd feel a lot better with bakari and maybe bakari could compete with George Fant for that starting role it would make you feel a little easier about this now the money I don't think unlike sha Leonard that he's looking for a cheap contract that could be the thing that the Seahawks find themselves not being able to pull this off of hey Bak tiari might be saying hey I'm looking to be a starter and I want to make a decent amount of money because the last time that we saw him at full strength remember he only played one game last year 2022 I mean his grades were still really good 87 .8 uh overall pass block grade 79.8 overall grade 68.5 run block grade I like the fit but there's some things you have to work through potentially to make this happen should the seide David bakari what do you guys think type why for yes type in for no wait in the comment section and let us know one guy we're excited about this season is Byron Murphy his jerseys are on sale now chatsports.com Murphy at a nine to that one and we have the home Jersey the road jersey the throwback alternate option we also have free shipping available for you as well go see for yourself chatsports.com Murphy the link is in the comments and the description of today's video check it out today check it out check it out to get your Byron Murphy jerseys couple more names for you let's talk about the tight end position CJ uzama formerly of the New York Jets also on our list and you look at this tight end spot here's what these sews decided to do they roll with Noah Fant they roll with AJ Barner pharoh Brown and Brady Russell at the tight end spot you only have one true pass catching tight end among those four right now in Seattle and to me that that that that hurts you because you can't do a ton of 12 personnel with true receiving threats and we've already seen Fant and Brown banged up a bit and personally I feel like an offense is at its best when you have TR when you have two true receiving tight end threats in all honesty the Seahawks don't have that right now granted CJ yava hasn't played great uh as of late last year in 12 games played had eight catches for 58 yards but you can see you go back to 2021 49 catches 493 yards 5 touchdowns and then think about this too the Seahawks are looking to know a Fant to be their Red Zone tight end threat the role that was previously held by Colby Parkinson well no off that's a new thing for him now to take on that role is he ready for that I hope so but what about another option potentially to make you feel better about that receiving room CJ uzama could potentially be that for Seattle last on our list let's talk about the safety position now jron Kur the former Dallas Cowboy still available in free agency at this point folks I'm a little surprised and I think we have to ask ourselves are we completely sold on this safety room right now entering 2024 are we so certain about this group right now I love me some Julian love I think ran Jenkins is going to have a breakout year but Kobe Bryant so far in his first two seasons in the NFL has been very up and down and he was banged up missed most of last season and then Kavon Wallace is still kind of an unknown at this point in time you look at curse I mean this is somebody that played decent last year for Dallas 72 tackles four tackles for loss four pass breakups and an interception you go back to 2021 had two interceptions 10 pass breakups 101 tackles um at the very least remember we're looking at flexibility when it comes to the safety room right Mike McDonald wants to play three safety I don't know if you can really do that right now with this group um if you add curse to that mix then maybe we're talking about potentially doing that but I don't know if you're at a comfort level where you feel okay with that jron K still out there I I would be fascinated about that possibility so there you have it that's our list we've gone through five names there's plenty more out there folks name a player you think the Seattle Seahawks should sign way in the comment section give us a name that you would like to see for continuing Seattle seah hooks coverage subscribe now to Seattle seah hooks today we will see you coming up in just over a week for our watch party against the Broncos right here on the channel subscribe now thanks for joining us all right one down uh we got two more segments to go up next we're going to talk updated depth chart for Seattle um should the SE look sign yanuk and gway S for sign P for pass Smitty rejoins me now Smitty what what what do you think about about Yanik here I I'm I am surprised he's still available I'm surprised he's still available but at the same time I'm not because how many stops this guy had over the past you know five six seasons he's been on every on every team Under the Sun so maybe there's an issue with yanuk G he hasn't been able to stick around in one location for a long you know an extended period of time at all really during his career so maybe there's something wrong with him that we don't know but as far as the physical skill set and the production that he's had I would be more than happy to sign yanak G for some Edge dep yeah maybe so and the sews are going with five Edge rushers right now I would take yanak over a couple guys that are there at the moment so uh we'll see depth chart uh coming up in a moment but we still need your questions for the mailbag use hashtag Seahawks or Super Chat to get on the mailbag portion of the show I've already seen a few questions but we need some more fale I want you to get in there James Kyle Samuel Express uh get your questions in for that mailbag segment we'll be bringing you coming up in just a bit shorter show today as uh we were very busy folks with roster cutdowns and waiver wire and all that so we're going to keep the show moving we're going to get to depth chart next then we'll get to your mailbag segment before we wrap up Kyle I know I owe you a boot from last week uh stay tuned next week I will take care of that boot but we are just show so short on time today I promise I will take care of that next week uh on that front so stay tuned we'll uh we'll pay off that boot next week I promise Kyle uh up next depth chart and then uh we'll get to mailbag to follow after that so more to come glad to have you with us here on this LIVE edition of Seattle SE hooks today SM we set all right without further Ado let's talk about the Seahawks depth chart right now here on Seahawks today you're watching Seahawks today powered by chat sports Tyler Jones here with you and is time to look at the very first depth chart for your Seattle Seahawks heading into to the 2024 regular season we will go over every single position group and give you our projection for how this roster will look when the seah hooks take the field against the Denver Broncos com up in just over a week from right now stay tuned for that before we do folks I want to set a record here on the channel so if you recall there was a video that we did back in the uh early days of the month of August where we reached 260 subscribers on one video 260 new subs and the boss just said to me Tyler you guys can do better than that can you get 300 new subscribers on the channel I would love to get 300 new Subs can you guys help us reach that goal and make it happen 300 new subs for daily seah hwks coverage live shows watch parties for every game this season breaking news q& mailbags and more subscribe now to se hwks today for free youtube.com/ sew TV let's get 300 new subs and we'll get started with today's show the quarterback room for the seah Hawks no surprise goino Smith and Sam how your two QBs Gino of course qb1 Sam how qb2 and the way that this is going to work out with this quarterback position in 2024 is that it's not any type of competition Gino's not losing his job the only way we'll see Sam how this year is if Gino struggles or if there is an injury and then Sam how if he performs at a high level maybe he doesn't give the job up but this is still Gino's team entering this year uh at the moment for now the way things stack up and I think Gino's going to have a very good year the running back room three running backs for the Seattle Seahawks Kenneth Walker the third will be your bcow with Zack sharan as your rb2 keny McIntosh is your rb3 George holani he will be on the practice squad to begin the season but we very well could see him at some point he impressed in the preseason and he was very good when it came to pass protection specifically speaking I like all three of those running backs for Seattle and I think you're going to see all three of those running backs they're all three very good pass catchers Ryan grub has made it known that with this Seahawks offense they want the running backs to be able to you be able to be used actively in the screen passing game to be pass catching backs and all three of them can do that that's going to be great for this Seahawks offense of what they all bring to the table it very well might be the best running back room in the NFL to the receiver room for the Seahawks DK metf will be on the left side Tyler Lockett on the right Jackson Smith and jigo in the slot with Bobo young and and ALT as your other three receivers and a lot of seor fans relieved did not see DSD on that list when I look at the wide receiver room I gotta tell you I think Ryan Grub's going to get pretty creative here we know what DK is going to do DK is going to be a star and he's going to easily have over a thousand yards and do all that but I think even though jsn is technically listed as the slot white out right now you're going to see more of him on the outside and and him and Tyler Lockett kind of trading off roles and I think as the year goes along jsn is clearly going to establish himself as the number two receiver and that's not a knock on Tyler locket at all but jsns the future and the Seahawks are setting this thing up for jsn to be a star they want him to step into his own in all likelihood this is probably going to be Tyler Lockett last season with the seat looks they don't want to take a 30 plus million dollar cap hit next year they're going to set up everything they can for a transition process for jsn to be that guy and take that step up and I think you're going to like what you see how would you grade the seaha depth chart we'll go over the rest of it we've gone through a few position groups already what do you guys think ABCD ORF way in the comments section and let us know what you think on our pin comment today the tight end room for Seattle has a few question marks Noah Fant is back Brady Russell is also back from last year but you don't have will dis anymore you don't have kobby Parkinson anymore faval Brown comes in from New England AJ Barner comes in from the University of Michigan where he won a national championship but this tight end room I got to tell you I like Noah and I think that he finally has the breakout season that we've been hoping for I think he was held back by the previous regime uh with Shane walren and Pete Carol that did not properly use the tight end position uh within this offense and that was kind of an ongoing theme for Pete Carroll with it didn't matter who the OC was uh over the years whether uh whoever they haded the tight end spot I mean from Greg Olen to a number of guys they were just not properly used uh I think that changes here and that we see Noah Noah have a big year Noah fan really just take a Next Step he's being paid like a top 10 tight end they're going to expect that production from him the one concern for me is that you three other blocking tight ends I need to see another receiver come out of that punch and if not you might have to be doing some shopping to find another receiving tight end the offensive line for the Seahawks Abraham Lucas Begins the year on the pup list he is out at least the first four games of the year stepping in his place is George Fant making his return to Seattle more than capable as a starting right tackle I think he'll fill the role just fine until Abe comes back and hopefully Abe is back of the field sooner than later Charles cross has had a very good off seon we heard the report from the uh Monday morning quarterbacks Albert Breer uh you know several weeks ago that he thinks that Charles cross could be an all Pro Caliber left tackle this season and then L and thinon you're starting left guard Conor Williams at Center I got to tell you I love the move to bring in Conor Williams I think that could be the difference in a win or two for Seattle bringing in a top five Center one of the best interior linemen in the NFL and Anthony Bradford wins the starting Right Guard job over Christian Haynes that doesn't mean we won't see Christian Haynes though Christian Haynes had a very good camp but Anthony Bradford looked good as well he just didn't do enough to lose the job that he was the favorite to have but nonetheless this offensive line is a whole lot better than what it could have been even just a couple months ago I'm feeling a lot better about this group than I was previously what your confidence level in the seaw o line scale It For Me 1 through 10 I'm about a seven right now a few months ago I would have been about a four or five what's your confidence level that way in let us know to the defensive line we go and this group I think is the most improved position group in this Seahawks roster for 2024 jiren Reed will be your starting defensive tackle Jonathan henkins your starting nose tackle Leonard Williams your starting defensive Mike Morris Byron Murphy II and Miles Adams will back them up now so I know some of you right away are going to say why would Byron Murphy not get the start and all indications are the Seahawks like the signing of Jonathan henkins he played under ad in Dallas so he already knows what ad wants to do on the defensive line but that doesn't mean we're not going to see Byron Murphy we're still going to see plenty of Byron Murphy it is going to be quite the rotation even Draymond Jones who they mooved to Edge they're still saying that is is going to see some time at the defensive end spot so it's going to rotate all these guys are going to see significant playing time and the big difference for me that I've talked a lot about this offseason when it comes to this group is the ability to stop the run Byron Murphy's a run stopper Leonard Williams is a run stopper uh jiren Reed he's got some work to do on that front but to me that's going to be the big Improvement here the linebacker room the big Improvement there is pass coverage I love Bobby Wagner he'll always have a special place in my heart as most Seahawks fans do uh and the thing with him and Jordan Brooks was they struggled in coverage Dodson and Baker going to be much better coverage wise Baker there's some health concerns we'll see how he Stacks up then you look at the edge rushers Draymond Jones he's got to show that he's worth the $18 million he's being paid is the highest paid player on this this defense he's got to have a lot better year than they did last year eugin wosu a little banged up right now with the injury that uh he suffered and he's not expected to be back in time for the opener you should see Boe MAF step into that role to start the season led the team in sacks last year good opportunity for Derek Hall he's had a nice preseason here this is a good unit for Seattle there in the linebacking core The Corner Room for Seattle a lot of excitement Trey Brown had a very good pre pre season beat out Mike Jackson he'll be your starting outside corner on the left side Rick woen after being banged up a bit last year struggling tackling wise had a down sophomore season he's expected a bounce back I think he can have a pro bowl campaign and then there's the star of this defense Deon Witherspoon who I think is going to be a contender to be defensive player of the year Devon Witherspoon is just going to unleash and the thing with with with DW is that it's not just what he's doing on on the football field being what Mike McDonald called the smartest player he's ever seen but also the leader with losing guys like Bobby and Jamal Adams and quandre Diggs those voices in the locker room despite it just being his second year Devon Witherspoon has been that vocal presence the SE looks have been looking for on the defensive side D Williams going to be more of a special teams guy we'll talk about him later Pritchett the rookie from Auburn uh I like as well but a very solid group at the corner position for Seattle we'll wrap up here in just a moment but I want to know who's going to be a breakout player for the seah hwks this season if you had to name one who would it be and why way in the comments section let us know the safety room for the seks Julian love he's got a new contract coming off a pro bowl campaign the best season of his career Julian love is going to be fantastic ran Jenkins you bring in from Jacksonville I think he's going to have a similar year to what Julian love did last year he's he does a very good job creating turnovers watch out for him Kobe Bryant we've seen the good we've seen the bad we've seen him struggle to stay healthy what version are we going to get that remains to be seen Mike McDonald wants to play three safeties Kobe Bryant it's up to you there's a big chance for you potentially to step into that role and then Kavon Wallace who you brought in from Tennessee we'll see what he brings to the table here but the safety room it looks good for the first couple of spots but there's question marks when it comes to that depth there the Special Teams unit Jason Myers is making kicks again he relieved himself in that final preseason game that was good to see Michael Dixon arguably the best punter in the league Christal the line uh the long stapper spot Chanel will be your main kick returner D Williams there as well D Williams also on punt return coverage and he is something else folks uh what a story for him as a udfa to earn a roster spot and should be a Difference Maker there in special teams coverage thank thanks for joining us here in this edition of Seattle Seahawks today for continuing Seahawks coverage subscribe now for free youtube.com/ Seahawks TV I'm Tyler Jones we'll see you next time here on Seahawks today all right uh mailbag segment our final segment in just a moment use hashtag Seahawks or Super Chat to get on the mailbag portion of the show grade theork dep chart A B C D or F what would your gr it weigh in right now now and let us know what you think Smitty rejoins me now Smitty we've gone through the entire depth chart what do you think the the um the only gripe I have potentially is I think Jackson Smith and jiga can be the number two receiver immediately uh that's my hot take of the Season that he is going to do you think he moves outside and lock it inside yeah I I I do and I think he's going to have a monster year Big Red Zone I think he's going to be a big time Red Zone Target for Seattle and I'm I'm calling eight eight touchdowns and a th000 plus yards okay out of out of out of Jack I love that I'm I'm all in on him this season gonna break out big time spin we need some questions don't we we do need a couple of questions use hashtag Seahawks in your in in your comment ask us a question about the state of the Seahawks this year um maybe the matchup going into week one whatever you guys want to uh know about we'll answer it here on the show we'll pull the question from the comment section on screen just use # Seahawks in your comments to ask us that question how many more questions do you think we need uh maybe like two more two more I'll put a minute on the clock one minute to get your questions in before we start this mailbag uh jefferton got one yes sir Cheon I saw that one before you're in brother and a matrix has got one all right very good one minute remaining your chance get questions and then we'll start this uh mailbag segment before we wrap up uh and then a reminder be here next week uh we are expanding here on Seahawks today we're going to two shows a week beginning next week uh Mondays and Wednesdays uh so should be a lot of fun uh here on Seahawks today so certainly excited about that and then of course we'll have our watch party for the Broncos game uh here as well uh nitsu will'll include this in the mailbag Seahawks owning the West this year uh I sure hope so eventually Smitty the the ners things got to catch up with him I don't know if it's this year but with where they're at with this whole iuk situation and Trent Williams and and all that there there's at least some trouble in Paradise if you will in San Francisco right now The Vibes are different than they've ever been heading into a season with this core for San Francisco and you know the the wheels could fall off eventually who knows if Brandon auk's going to still be a part of that roster um he didn't practice today I don't think he did not he was in the building but he did not practice yeah so the things could be heading in the wrong direction for San Francisco and not to say that Seattle's on their level this year uh in my opinion but they are trending in the right direction to head to that level while you know San Francisco turns the wrong way yeah yeah certainly um give me one second here okay uh actually one more second okay all right without further Ado our final segment mailbag time and then we'll wrap up we'll call today here on Seahawks today continue to get your questions in hash Seahawks or Super Chat and we'll get started here on today's show all right here we go you got questions I got answers it is mailbag time here on seaw today it is our second to last mailbag before the regular season gets here we're going to talk everything from trade rumors to season predictions whatever you guys got for me we'll answer it all here in just a matter of moments on Seahawks today this comes from the live show we do on Wednesday afternoons where you guys use the hashtag Seahawks in Super Chat to get your questions in and you may be saying to yourself how can I be a part of the next mailbag show well if if you subscribe to Seahawks today and join the noty gang those are the real ones that are subscribed to the channel then you'll be the first one to know when we have new content when we go live when we have breaking news all of that right here on Seahawks today subscribe now turn on notifications so you never miss a moment if you're part of that not gang spam not gang in the comment section here on today's show all right let's uh let's start with a super chat Star Wars Iron Giant writes in # Seahawks how do you like Estridge last Saturday so uh it's too fold here with d estrid right he went out with a bang in his final game with the Seattle Seahawks had that butt return touchdown had a couple nice plays receiving wise but was a little too little too late for DSD as ywe did not make the 53 man roster and went off to Miami to join their practice squad and I'll say this the seaworks made the right decision you can't just let one game the best game he's had in a what three foure stretch all of a sudden change your mind about drid and say you know what yeah we should keep him around I'm glad that they didn't take the bait per se from that one game that he had they like D Williams a little bit better when it comes to special teams coverage chenel uh you know some of these other guys at the wide receiver position they made the right call saying bye to dsgd wish him nothing but the best but I'm not going to miss him I can tell you that Matrix with a $5 Super Chat writes in with all these players in recent games played what's your thoughts on the Seahawks records all right so we're going to do an updated record prediction video uh in the coming days so I don't want to give my record prediction just yet but I'll lay it out this way folks I think the floor is eight wins I think the ceiling is 11 wins the 11 win mark is literally everything going right for this team and you know getting some help along the way they do face a decent number of rookie quarterbacks this year so that bodess well for them uh but that's what I'm looking at this team if all goes according to plan should be a playoff team this year and if Mike McDonald gets into the playoffs in his first year in Seattle that's a successful season and you got to feel optimistic about the future remember what I've been saying it's a 2-year plan year one the goal is to get in the postseason year two next year is when you should be an NFC Contender Big Bob right in could you see the Seahawks trading for Evan Neil So I was talking to our Buddy Marshall Green of giants now and if you recall Evan Neil and Charles cross both came out the same season uh the same draft and Evan Neil was picked slightly ahead of Charles cross and Evan Neil has been awful to say the least in his time in the NFL the Giants were hoping that they found their starting left tackle for the next 10 plus years and that's been far from the case he was moved to the right tackle spot and couldn't keep the starting job there he's not expected to start for that team they're shopping him around I'm not giving up on Evan Neil um I think that you could trade him for a day three pick maybe a fifth or sixth round selection and you think about the uncertainty with the right tackle spot for Seattle with Abe Lucas on the pup list with uh you know what we see George Fant as old as he is we'll see how much he can put together here you could potentially take a flyer on Evan Neil and what's it going to hurt it's not like you're the Giants here and used to First on him um obviously there's some Talent there and the Giants have not been a well-run organization they haven't done a good job of developing Talent so it might not be all Evan Neil's fault I'm open to that possibility I'd be surprised if they did it but I I wouldn't be opposed should the Seahawks trade for ranil type t for trade P for pass can the Seahawks fix him what do you think weigh in let us know jefferon writes in what is the role of Seattle's new DC since Mike will be calling plays on defense so ad comes in and uh with Mike calling the defense ad is kind of the eyes and ears right Mike he is you know he always gets compared to Shawn mcy they call him the Shawn McVey of Defense right and McVey calls the offense for the Rams and he lets his defensive coordinator handled the defensive side and they split things up that way but Shawn McVey has still had some very successful assistant coaches I mean you think about Zack Robinson who's now the OC of the Atlanta Falcons uh Shane Waldren came up through that system there's been a number of guys that were his OC's there previously and with ad even though he's not calling the defense doesn't mean he's not heavily involved and his background is with the defensive line that's going to be a big point of emphasis especially when it comes to stopping the Run developing Byron Murphy getting the most out of jiren Reed uh and Leonard Williams and those guys that's going to be the big area that ad is going to be looked at the Kingdom right in man what a place that was could the seah hwks trade for Tyreek Wilson of the Raiders I've seen Tyreek Wilson's name come up and you look at Tyreek Wilson Edge rusher formerly out of Texas Tech uh first round pick he was a guy that the Seahawks had looked at and the Raiders going a whole new Direction with uh Antonio pierus their head coach trying to change up that defense and they're looking to potentially move some pieces around with the uncertainty at the edge rusher spot for Seattle right now with uchino Wu banged up um you know what are we going to see out of draymont Jones Boye MAF Tyreek Wilson could be a potential trade option with not giving up like a first round pick like he was selected for I think that might be a good value find and what have we talked about a lot I'll continue to re reiterate this Mike McDonald maximizes his talent at the edge rusher spots and to me that wouldn't be a bad idea uh for a second-year player to see what he could potentially do should Seattle trade for Tyreek Wilson what do you guys think why for yes in for no way in the comments section let us know if you'd be interested in that potential deal got a great deal we're offering Seahawk fans right now Byron Murphy jerseys on sale at chatsports.com Murphy at a nine to that one you got the home Jersey the road jersey the alternate throwback uniforms as well we got free shipping available go see for yourself chatsports.com / Murphy to get yours today right in time for the season still time to get yours before the season starts the link is in the comments and description of today's video chatsports.com Murphy uh townboy writes in do you think Mike McDonald could bring the best out of Kobe Bryant he was on the same team as saw us and won the Jim Thorp award I sure hope so and you know with him being on the safety spot he's had to learn the position and naturally he's a corner that's what he played at Cincinnati when he won the Jim Thorp award played alongside Solace they were a terrific one-w punch and I think for Seattle when we talk about getting the best out of Kobe if we're going to be realistic here is Kobe ever going to be a great safety in this league probably not but if he could be that number three safety similar to what Mike McDonald did with Gino Stone last year in Baltimore who had what six picks and was I think either first or second in the league of interceptions if he could be that I would be thrilled so if he could be that number three safet te and play at a high level could Mike McDonald get out that out of him I think he could and that would be huge for this team so we'll see phobia writes in uh how confident are we in the offensive line are there any potential o linemen on the market so there's a couple names out there we talked about David bakari this week on the channel he's sitting out there I feel a whole lot better about this group than I did a couple weeks ago with the additions of Conor Williams Charles cross has had a very good camp Bradford and Haynes have both looked good we'll see what Tomlinson brings to the table um but I I think that they're going to kind of roll with what they got and then re-evaluate things after week one and see if they need to make any changes from there but this offensive line you think about Olu for example Olu is now a backup but that's a guy that could play center or guard and give you that positional flexibility and that's the main thing comparing this group now compared to what you had last season you have depth and that's even with AB Lucas out on the pup list so I I'll go about a seven out of 10 I feel much better than I did but still work to be done last question El Presidente all right in what do you think about no quarterback in the practice squad this year I don't think it's a big deal um because let's let's look at it this way all right so PJ Walker would have been in all likelihood your practice squad quarterback all right and PJ looks so bad that I said this on the program a few days ago I would not have personally been comfortable with him getting elevated to the active roster if God forbid something happened to Smith or how and he had to be the backup quarterback if something happens to Smith or how go get oryan tanah Hill or or or or something like that you're much better off getting a veteran than you would have been with PJ Walker taking a spot at the practice squad and hoping to get elevated so I I I don't think it's it's that big of a deal in all honesty appreciate you join us here on seks today for continuing Comfort subscribe now turn on notifications and we'll see you next time here on Seahawks today all right so we are just about done um name a breakout player for the Seahawks this season uh Smitty who comes to mind well I gave I I I did say Jackson Smith and jigo but if we're goingon to go somebody that that's not like everybody's pick per se um man that's a good question I mean give me yeah give me give me boy MAF as like a true breakout player who's going to burst onto the scene as as one of the League's Premier pass rushers I'll give you a popular name that I I think it doesn't turn to a star by any means but makes a significant difference big jump up I think Jake Bobo does Jake Bobo would be really cool uh yeah I mean he he came up in in a in some big spots last year at a nice couple of touchdowns and just an underrated hardworking type of type of player who can create separation that you would be able to expect so I I like Jake Bobo a lot also underrated name that that comes to mind for me is Brady Russell I think he could be an an an actual Factor at the tight end position I think he's a bit underrated they they clearly like him too him starting that preseason game team offense definitely definitely he's been he's been working with the ones a decent bit this this preseason so I I got some some expectations for Brady Russell to to be involved in in the tight end room nitsu says draymont uh AK that' be nice we pay him $20 million so he better uh AKA says Kobe James says McIntosh um naagi says uh Kenneth uh and then Gateway says Derk Hall we will sign off appreciate you guys joining us I know it was a short show today but uh plenty more ahead on the channel throughout the coming days we got a big week next week so stay tuned for that for Tyler Smith I'm Tyler Jones have a great night everybody so long [Music]
