Robert Saleh talks Jets' preparation for Titans, Allen Lazard

uh two guys would have been limited today it's Michael Carter um and DJ Reid uh DJ's just dealing with some uh knee soreness but he's they're both going to be fine for the game uh also you guys want to see Javon kinla out there he's uh he's having a baby today so uh um hope everything goes well for him what uh stands out about Tennessee when you look out uh you know there are talented group they really are obviously new staff um um a lot of guys that have produced a lot on in all three phases offense defense special teams um but um you know while respected o line coach and Bill Callahan uh um so their run schemes which we've had to deal with and and have had troubles with is uh is going to be a great challenge for us from a defensive perspective offensively um uh dealing with their scheme and the things that they do uh also presents a lot of different challenges that we haven't seen um more five down front and all that stuff but uh uh good team young team um and uh it's going to be a great challenge what do you think about will uh will uh he's a tough so I can tell you that much man he's um uh ultimate competitor uh tremendous arm Talent uh he can he can make things happen with his his legs um from my understanding he's extremely smart a good processor and uh you know so he's he's a young he's a young kid and uh but he's he's getting better with every passing day and um he's another one that's that skies the limit for him I know there only one game can you see Bill Callahan's fingerprints on their running game yeah um you know they were uh you know Cincinnati even though uh coach came from uh I know uh younger Callahan uh but the uh coach came from Cincinnati they still run some of those principles too uh over there too so it's uh you know it's a good mixture of what they got going there after just one game but um uh you know they they present a lot of challenges both in the pass game and Run game just regarding your own passing attack um on Monday night obviously the tight ends didn't get involved in the passing attack and I know you're probably going to say because we didn't have enough plays but even so I mean a guy like hin has caught a lot of passes around here and I'm just curious why that happened and how important is it to get involv flow of the game um you know every every game is going to present different opportunities for different guys there's going to be games where um you know that you're going to ask me about other positions you know it's just it is what it is and uh the flow of the game dictated and um and the results were what they were when you went back and look what fathered you most about the defense it's not that I was U uh bothered uh it's a little surprising because we you know we pride ourselves on discipline and doing our jobs and um felt like we kind of got a little out of whack in that regard um uh not going to get into specific details that uh we need to get fixed but at the same time I just know that uh we're capable of much more and that uh it wasn't a a physical thing it was more just just guys just trying to do a little bit too much you're okay um when you look back at at at the other night uh what were the things that you were most encouraged by in your offense in in in Aaron in particular you know how was that the first scoring Drive yeah the uh that the 12 Play Drive was awesome um you know even that first the first drive that uh it was a three and out but I I thought we did exact you know you want explosive runs but I thought it was good you know we got to a third and three which we struggled to get to last year if you guys remember it felt like every single Drive was uh third and 11 plus you know but uh we got to a third manageable we had a easy completion it didn't work out that way that's okay it happens um you know we fumbled on the second drive but that was going to be another positive play so you know we had a lot of positive plays uh where we were we weren't getting ourselves behind the sticks like we did a year ago um we still had three touchdown drives um you know you can say the last one was BS but their starters were still out there too you know and uh still trying to produce till you know B is still rushing the pass are trying to get sacks and uh they were still trying to produce at a high level and we were still able to move the ball so it um you know obviously the consistency of drive to drive wasn't there because we had that law and uh you know I attribute that law to um uh not getting off the field on defense and and having them lap us at the end of the first half to the start of the second half it's a big 10-point swing um uh that uh that that got the game to 23 to7 um but like I said with with regards to the offense I there was a lot of promising things a lot of positive yardage scoring drives long drives uh third down conversions where six of 10 which I thought was uh uh really good and so you know there's there's a lot of things we can build off of and there's a lot of things we can learn from too I would encourage anyone to see uh Allan have the game he did you know great training to see that translate I was I was happy I'm happy for him you know to to get that off his back and uh I mean he's he's been in the league a while he's been productive for a while and uh you know again his mindset and where he is is so much different than a year ago where last year that drop would have on the on the first down probably would have caved his whole game um but he still grinded in the Run game which you don't you don't get to see unless you're really watching that all 22 I mean he was a he was a factor in the Run game he was um you know you can put him anywhere on the football field from an alignment standpoint which just gives us great flexibility and and then for him to be able to produce in the pass game was was awesome to see those those two throws on that drive excuse me those two throws on that drive the the one down the sideline and then obviously the where he threw the defense offside how much do you think the other receivers and learn from obviously Allan Haven played with it before kind of felt like it's easier for him to make those play so how can how quickly can the other receivers kind of get up to spe on that they they can and it's been it's been a like I said this year uh different than last year uh where there's Nuance being there's so much more Nuance being learned and we're only going to get better uh guys it's been I know the first game didn't go the way we wanted but it's um it's going to get a lot better but you know uh Allen understands all the Nuance of football and and uh very smart in that regard and uh you know just aboring routes and recognizing what the play was and if you watch him he puts his hand up which is um you know letting Aaron know that he found space it's it's um he's got a good dynamic they got a good relationship but uh I think all of them are learning uh and getting better at it is there any sign of read play uh not that I'm aware of given given the way the defensive front played how much more of an urgency does it create to try to get that situation resolved um you know from from a from a pass game standpoint like I said I thought San Francisco did a really nice job uh getting rid of the ball uh we sacked them a couple times but um look we're we're always going to want our want our own in the building it is what it is but um you know whenever the deal gets done it gets done does Clemens have to do better job setting the edge in the Run game we all do uh I thought actually Clen was was really good he was one of the better ones um but uh as a collective whole dline linebackers safeties Corners we all need to do a better job what do you think Mike Williams is going to be I mean I know it's a gradual thing but like is it going to come a point I think BR said week four yeah we we wanted to get him get him more uh we were hoping to get them almost 15 unfortunately we didn't have a lot of opportunities rich but um but no he's he's fine we we'll continue to build his uh uh his rep his rep comp what about Robert yeah uh we got we've got to find ways to get him involved um you know it's uh he's another uh Young Piece that we got to continue to develop um you know it's uh well we got to get them going C what your defense obviously no bounce back um thought meetings were really good this morning walk through uh was the initial walkthrough was good we'll have another one today um but it's not the first time that that we've gotten punched in the mouth here on defense and and I feel like we've always responded so um they they'll respond Robert youve mentioned few times that per got the ball out is the count of that better coverage yeah we were um you know from a from a coverage standpoint um we all could have been a little bit better like I said it was just it wasn't our standard of ball uh from uh and I think our our our guys agree uh can agree to that I I don't think uh think we could have done a much better job coaching it um and obviously a much better job executing
