10 and8 in 18 games in 18 days the Padres claw fight scrap up to 18 games above 500 they try once again to reach 19 games above 500 for the first time in a very long time and the updated National League playoff picture the San Diego Padres are separating themselves as we head into the month of September in their pursuit of clinching a postseason birth how's it going everybody a gritty Victory matter look what Joe Musgrove has done for the Padres since returning from the injured list almost two months Joe Musgrove is pitching like an ace the curveball had amazing snc to it the movement the depth the Sinker was working the cutter was working he was using the yaker a lot he got into some trouble in that sixth inning and Mike shil rubena and company gave him the opportunity to go finish it up and Joe mus today for the San Diego Pod Race Six shutout Innings three hits two walks eight punchies and he's lowered his season erra to to a 4.09 just for reference coming in today he had a season ra of 4.44 tomorrow for the San Diego pod race wear your crowns ladies and gentlemen because they got Michael King on the mount going tomorrow night excuse me excuse me not tomorrow night we have an off day they have U Darvish making his season daybut tomorrow for the San Diego Padre's on Wednesday play them Bells [Applause] they have ladies and gentlemen how does it feel right now this is a good team how you feeling right now guys it's a pretty damn good team you're starting to see it you're starting to see it all come together they got darish back Wednesday toddy back today Kim should be back in a week or two it's very weird having an off day but want to know why September was also so integral for the San Diego Padres was that they now have four to five off days in the month of September they just finished 18 days 18 games in 18 days what up Alex and you look at this ball Club right now I know we want to win the division and we take a look at the division standings but they've they've put themselves in a very very very good postseason position and they've put themselves in a very good postseason position you take a look at the National League West standings you never know right the the the the division is probably looking out of play right now but they still play the Dodgers for three games the Dodgers have two easy ones in against the Angels but then the Dodgers host the Guardians who are starting to heat up the Dodgers play The Red Hot Cubs they play the Braves so it it could be interesting probably not they end with the Rockies however we're worried about what we're doing and Joe Musgrove if Dylan T can be going if Michael King can get back to his ways and we get a pretty good U darish how do you feel about those four going for the San Diego Padres I think this is you know PR's best team he's built in San Diego and the reason why I think that is because he's built this roster that has been able to sustain really really impactful players getting hurt and he's been able to bridge that Gap they were able to get through um you know they were able to get through a musve injury darish not being able to play all right the Joe looks fully back 18 games in 18 days are done much needed off day tomorrow darish back Wednesday how are the Vibes right now and you look at H Kim he's filled in admirably admirably Mason McCoy for H on Kim we're going to hear from we're going to hear from shil here right now but I mean this is the Joe mus I'm talking about I mean this is the swing and Miss he's getting swinging a swinging a miss it was all working for him today it was all working for him today and Joe he threw a fast ball that was 96 MPH today so we take a look at the health from his elbow the health from his arm right now now it's looking pretty pretty good give me one word to describe how you feeling today ladies and gentlemen one word to describe how you feel the Padre's are now two up on the Diamondbacks in the win column they're second in the National League West the Dodgers just took three out of four as of right now if the season ended today The Potters would host the national league Wild Card series at Petco Park against the Arizona Dbacks I take a look at Arizona schedule though they look like they could be in trouble I think the Mets are surely going to get into the postseason I think they're playing too good pitching is too good they're going to take care of Boston they don't need JD Martinez we're going to find out from that perspective but man it's been a it's been a really really good Chase what were your takeaways from today you guys want to hear another crazy stat I think the DSG put it out Lis arise he struck out twice since the All-Star break he has struck out twice since the All-Star break he has been a lot better lately especially with this thumb situation another two for four day he drove in two of the three Padres runs today Luis arise was fantastic Fernando okay a lot of people are going to say when is he going to get going how is Fernando looking listen I know he's still he he had a he had a couple really good at bats they ended not with the best results but look he had a ground out with a 98 m per hour exit v a 92 m per hour exit vo okay so Fernando his bat speed is still there on his first game back so it's going to take a little bit of time to see how Fernando gets acclimated and how Fernando gets going I think on Wednesday it's going to be pretty interesting to find out what this Padre's lineup is going to look like with tatis junor back in the fold jerx and proar J konorth received off days today who is going to be hitting second who's going to be hitting third does that slide chonor down to the seven spot so Merill can move up and they add some more balance into that order it's going to be very interesting to find out how this Padre's order unfolds Manny Machado had that big time base hit as well on the eighth inning to give the Potter's insurance and of course the spark plug of that inning was K higashioka and let's talk about the Padres one of the most historically dominant bullpens of all time and actually they all allowed a hit Jason Adam allowed a base hit Tanner Scott allowed a double to Riley green but was able to get out of it because he has awesome stuff and Robert Suarez did allow a leadoff base hit but then induced a 543 double play to Manny Machado and ended the game with an Austin Meadows fly out I believe this Bullpen as people say ass because of Adam Scot Suarez is anything but ass and has been very very good for the San Diego Padres their pitching is what's gotten them here their offense is what needs to take them over the offense has been very very good in a lot of parts of the season but they've been struggling a little bit lately I don't want to be a burden of bad news and we're going to hear from Mike SCH very shortly in the San Diego Padres hogw watch postgame show but I do want to ask youall this how do you feel about the Padre's offense does the Padre's offense concern you at all but I'll tell you this it's pretty pretty nice to see it's pretty pretty freaking nice to see the pitching straight outstanding starts for us um yeah hard fought ball game you know we're able to scratch r with Lis getting a big knock and Joe um Joe made a stand up through six and made big pitches in the six to get to get out of it he's been fantastic and a he's a big part of our club and um he's contributing Big Time Luis has done this multiple times now how valuable is it to have a man in your leadoff spot that's not just a table setter yeah you know we knew that when we got him that clearly was a table setter two batting titles speak for themselves but if you put put the ball in play a lot you're probably going to be prettyy good with run and scoring position too and the good news is we have a bottom of the lineup that gets on and contributes at the bottom so he was able to drive in a couple runs that that was big and you mentioned the bottom of the lineup B McCoy getting the bunt down he did it the other day as well just continues to be production from there doing the little things get the sacrifice bunts down just executing yeah executing ending was you know really a beautiful representation of how baseball supposed to be played on the offensive side it was really nice he he gets it started with the double um max moving him over but lays down a beautiful bun so we got first and third Louie again you know we're talking about him two strikes got him right where he wants them and um just takes a tough at bat boom hits the ball the other way then we get you know um toddy up there I just loved his approach you know he spoke with his words like do what the game calls for he saws sees a big hole just boom trying to play the game ends up moving him over um just a really love the intent of that moves him over than Manny same thing do what the game calls for takes what the pitcher gives him hits the ball through the through the you know four hole gives us that insurance run so um it really just good baseball in that eighth inning the whole game actually pitching was outstanding you're listening to Mike in the post through the 18 games 27 and 28 how do you take stock of how you came out of this stretch um very well it was a very very um you know we can talk about normalizing it and you can say any of the word words that are all you know somewhat can be cliche or people can perceive as cliche but you know doing it way harder than saying it and we can say and I can say well you know we're going to normalize regardless of where we're at hot we went through that stretch Road um Day game night game tough travel day um consecutive games in a row we can say what we're going to do when all that is available to us but it's really about how we go about it and yeah our our our guys you know actions speak a lot of than words and they all spoke with their actions you know they all knew what this stretch meant um we had our leadership group you know Manny was really um very positive about what that was going to look like during the stretch all the guys um were very intentional about making sure that not only they were showing up but they were showing up with the right kind of effort and the right kind of um you know mentality to go play and it couldn't have been on display more so and very impressive for the 18 games and including today I mean I looked at the staff before the game and you know we do our part the staff did a really nice job that's a quick turnaround going to a new you know into a new um series and you played on the other coast and you've got a late afternoon game um and I looked up and it was really reassuring which I wasn't surprised about but again I'm not going to take for granted that every single person staff everything was just a normal day we talk about Elite adjusters and you know show up guys were engaged into the competition and um you know it's way easier said than done but we we we we did it now we only draw from it because now that is the identity of who we are which is a very special identity impressive group sorry um Mike you talked about um Todd's at bat there in the E just what was your of him you know today in the Box in the field how he was moving what' you see I thought he's moving pretty well um it's good to see him in the Box he took that greater bat which I mentioned in move runners um I mean he's a presence he's just an absolute presence so you know we have um you know a really good group of guys that are going about the right way and lot of guys that whole group brings their presence he's in great addition clearly and we're excited to have him back now we move forward to the to the next opportunity you have anything on Wednesday starter U darish what's that going to be like you darish on Wednesday confirmed it's going to be great it's going to be fantastic ball came out really good two times he's thrown um you know clearly took care of himself during his time away um so we're really excited to see him pitch on Wednesday Perez will throw Thursday well series we just got to continue to focus on ourselves that's all I'm going to say this team feels good this team feels like a team that can compete they feel whole now with Fernando going to be back hopefully we get Kim back here pretty soon if darish can be pretty good for this team uh their rotation is going to be looking very very good I'll say that again if darish is feeling good this rotation is going to be very very very good NE I mean in this stretch run so who do you think misses the playoffs chat so let me explain to you um let me just explain to you what I think is the ideal wildcard scenario here's what I think's the situation okay let's actually go through the Wild Card CH I'm going to explain to you what I think is the sit situation here okay so right now the Padres are slated as the for seed the for seed plays the one seed if you advance that'd be the Dodgers they need okay we need the Phillies or the Brewers to be that one seed okay and it's very possible it's very possible but ideally those Phillies or those Brewers can be that one seed that's what I think's the situation Slide the Dodgers down to that two seed so then the Padre's path doesn't go through La that's the hope the Brewer continue to win baseball games you know there's a real shot that they can be that one seed I don't know but there's a shot so keep your eye out related to something like that um but listen at the end of the day the chips fall where they may and you go to battle I would rather face Arizona than Atlanta because I don't want to see Chris saor or Max freed in the playoffs especially Chris Sale I mean they're equipped they're equipped to win that so um I don't want to play Atlanta Atlanta scares me as as as shaky as Atlanta is if you have Chris Shon Max freed going in game one and game two you you could lose that series very likely okay Arizona doesn't have the pitching their offense is very good but we have the pitching to counter that they don't have the pitching or the bullpen I'd rather face Arizona um I'd rather face Arizona what about y'all
