'The Amazing Race's' Angie and Danny reveal their crew never showed up to the Detour

[Music] Angie and Danny after last night's Amazing Race can you look at roundabouts the same way love it actually yes I don't mind roundabouts because you can just keep going until you figure out where you want to go now I'm not sure what happened to our camera crew they didn't keep going but it was great I had no problem it is funny though right after the race though like we did hit a roundabout and we were driving together and we were like ah a roundabout what a bummer but uh it definitely is funny to like look back and watch the episode and go wow our camera crew really did turn left as we're sitting in this roundabout and uh it was completely out of our control it's also so ironic because navigation was your strong suit you were basically like the only team that was good at navigating and that took you out not like indirectly I guess because it wasn't like you I was G say that that didn't take us out that theop second so it had navigation continued to be very strong for us we made it by ourselves yeah there is a little bit of irony in that to absolutely someone nicknamed me the human Garmin on a podcast and I was like this is funny I'm like this genz guy used smartphone and waves and Google Maps and to actually be one of the stronger like Navigators on the race that was pretty pretty cool to to kind of look back and be like oh dang I Maps yeah well do you think um like what happened was fair because like you know you guys you know were going you you went the direction you went in and isn't it like the crew's job to follow the team wherever they go whether it's wrong or right yeah so something to maybe name with that is the crew had a local driving them so it was an amazing race crew that was driving them and when they turned left like we immediately like kind of like pulled over to the right immediately you kind of see like us like telephoning our crew we had also been debriefed in security that moment of like hey if you feel unsafe or you get separated from your crew and know how to get to your next location just go to your next location and wait there and so when we get to our next location we're there and the crew never shows up um you see in the clip where it's like oh like our crew has arrived our crew didn't arrive they just grabbed another crew that was there because our crew was still lost uh and so we ended up sitting there for about 45 50 minutes and just watch team after team after God that's kind that's even worse you know what here's the deal as far as fair I you know we are so grateful for the whole experience things happen right life happens so I don't think it was a matter of fair or unfair it's just something else that happened on The Amazing Race and we got to kind of be the people that it happened to and and that's that's the way it was supposed to be we're grateful we were put in that race we just feel like you know just we're so H thrilled that God just blessed us with that opportunity and then we were taken out of that race when it was time for us to be done and so we're we're just super thankful for all of it and we don't blame anybody we're sad a little bit that it didn't you know we couldn't have gone further absolutely and you know would we have liked it to maybe look different sure but hey could we control it nope we couldn't so why why worry about it right just have fun with it and so awesome that we got to be there at the time and have that experience together and and if we couldn't win might as well go out and like an iconic way that has never happened you know you guys make a really strong case for like unfinished business so ah true true Mom Mom's ready to go back you know you were taking out by circumstances outside of your control uhhuh so so it sounds like they just kind of felt bad after 45 minutes and like you guys can go to The Detour yeah one and they I heard on the production phone being like hey Juan and Shane are rolling up and I think they just didn't know what they didn't know what to do and maybe they did maybe they did and like that was the way that they presented it as because we don't get as a cast you don't see everything behind the scenes and they are a well-oiled machine like they are a really incredible production like would I love to work on Amazing Race Productions someday absolutely that would be incredible like you can you can make new rules for this situation true well here's you know it's it's just human it's just human air I mean I don't even know error it's just they all learned when we pulled up they were meetings going on everywhere we knew they didn't know what to do either so and even when we got to the match they were still having meetings and Phil talked to us for quite a while like okay are they going to change something here is there I think just nobody knew what to do and so will they learn from us absolutely and will it go forward and be better sure but you know it was a unprecedented event so exactly so and to be able to have gotten a race to so many countries and to do like our boat broke down like we were in a vehicle we were in like uh we just got every element of an amazing race that I could have ever dreamed of and I got to do it with one of my best friends like I got to watch my mom like grow and be challenged and then ultimately be like hey like God's got us and she never gave up and she continued going and that was like really Andrew you you were rocking it you were a warrior oh he was painting your face on the ground here's the deal they were gonna that one moment that um I remember that the um medic said to Danny mate because he's REM most I don't know that she's going to be able to continue racing and I said oh yes yes I am I will do whatever it takes unless you pull my body out of here on a stretcher he goes that could be possible I'm like no just so they as actually asked me a series of questions to make sure I was you know coherent enough and I'm like uh yeah so if I have to crawl to the mat we're doing this I'm just a little hot right now overheated right now that's that's right that's right well I I also back for for this like cuz you guys were doing so well like you you started the like in second and then the roadblock like Andrew you crushed it with the row tennis you're doing so well up until this point so what what was like was it deflating when you were just like on this high and then you were just stalled for 45 minutes sure was that oh yeah in the car like Mom was more stressed than I was mom was like we need to get out right now and I'm like and I have been the whole race of like it's okay like it's okay like hey there's nothing we can do to control it but I watch mom go from the last leg of like we can win the million dollars like we are going to win The Amazing Race and so yeah it was hard to sit there and watch it but then when I got to the engineering challenge of like building it I was like I can make up time on this like we got there what 25 I think ended up being like 25 30 minutes after rod and Leticia did and I think we ended up losing by like seven so we made up 15 like minutes in the build Challenge and I was pretty proud of that to get to do something that was my strength in building and to watch Mom absolutely kill an athletic roadblock like she got to just enjoy and have fun and ultimately despite our elimination was a really fun day in The Amazing it was it really was I mean you got it a little wet yeah you you you could look at it as like you got like a 45 minute like rest butt so you know just chilled out for a little to well we knew we knew when we saw the last team that we were in last place and and so we kind of saw the writing on the wall so then it was okay we're going to finish strong we knew we were L and we're gonna finish strong and um there was nothing we could do about it so at that moment Danny had actually never been into the Atlantic Ocean I'm like dude after building go jump in the ocean go play of course he wouldn't do it but I was like we're last go do it go it doesn't matter when we show up like we're gonna go I know right but there's always that o r she could have gotten lost right well they got their car stuck in the mud they did they did so but no it was you know it was iconic in so many ways but um just a really a really beautiful time with my son yeah I mean I I love your guys' relationship because you're always so supportive and encouraging of each other um even know when even when you were struggling with something so it it was really nice to see thank you I think that's something a little bit of like faith of like what does it look like to be an encourager what does it look like to be compassionate and like care and like show Christ love and I think Mom raised me really well to walk alongside people and see people where they're at and uh just be a constant encourager so why she may tell me to take a nap sometimes oh I'm not a perfect mom and I still keep him in line don't make alliances with the world please it was really awesome to get to do this experience with Mom and with the incredible cast yeah cast and and camera crew here's the deal Amazing Race the whole big picture what people don't see you know I know they're the it can be so easy to judge what's going on but that that whole production is amazing from from the first interview you have to to coming home they just take care of you unbelievably and are so kind and so good to us so we're so thankful uh well lastly Angie do you know who Rihanna is now and Danny can you think of reading the songs ask me who ask me who Paul Ina is or Barry Manalo or Foreigner and we've got a conversation we should go to their hometowns they their childhood homes yeah we could have used an umbrella that day I I was think I was like how are you not singing umbrella when it's raining okay so here's what's so funny as Danny did start singing some songs okay but they were all Alicia Key songs and I knew Alicia Key because I run to her I you know I trained to her and and the cameramen are bus this is before we get to her house and then we get out and they're just laughing and so they yell umbrella well we had just gone through a monsoon so I said ah we're gonna need our umbrella again and Danny goes no Mom the song Umbrella she sings Umbrella and I just like okay like sure yeah if you say so okay they should have included that in the show that would have been great well what's funny is that year because you know we filmed earlier she staying at the Super Bowl so then I educated myself and I knew who Rihanna was now I've been to her house so I know yeah that's right we're we're like this yeah uh well it was great speaking with
